“I would enjoy continuing to meet up with you,” she admitted. “Even if energy-draining is not involved. You’re a bit of an enigma to me and I feel like, even with your missing memories, there is a lot I can still learn from you if you’re willing to teach me.” One of her very few encounters with Knights nearly ended with her death, however, he was not like them and it surprised her in a rather pleasant kind of way.

“I understand how you feel though.” Meridiana leaned her head back then and looked up at the sky as if it heald answers to the questions he dare not ask. “As the senshi of the succubus how can anyone take my feelings for them as anything serious?” She wondered out loud. “There are times that even I find myself wondering where the line between my feelings and my sphere really is.”

Emotions are such complicated things.

“It doesn’t really matter though,” The lie came so easily and yet it hurt just as much as if someone else had said them. “So long as I can enjoy the company of someone such as yourself I know I’ll make it through ok.” She smiled down at him sincerely then, with her pinkies, sectioned off a part of his hair and split it into three equal parts to weave together into a braid.

Whisler nodded, his eyes still gazing up at her for a long moment before giving a soft laugh. “Well. I don’t think your sphere has anything to do with you personally…though perhaps…with the senshi I’ve met, I suppose that you…might take on some of the aspects of your sphere when you’re powered…but I don’t think…I mean.” He reached a hand up and cupped her cheek, enjoying her playing with his hair. “I think your feelings are as real as anyone’s, no matter what your sphere is. The sphere isn’t you…is what I’m trying to say. And yes, your feelings do matter. You matter, Meri.”

He wore a soft smile now. “Why wouldn’t they think your feelings are true? I mean…Meri, if it bothers you…just don’t tell them your sphere. And if you fall in love easy…I mean, it happens! When you meet people who resonate with you…it’s so hard not to fall for them. To dream of them, and to miss them when they’re away from you…”

His fingers stroked her cheek and he sighed. “It’s your heart. Not your sphere. It has to be, because I don’t have a sphere to hide behind.”

Meridiana closed her eyes and leaned into his gentle touch, pulling from it all the warmth and kindness he had to offer. Never in her wildest dreams could she have imagined that the words her heart so desperately wished to hear would come from someone of the opposite faction. While it made her happy to know that someone truly seemed to understand how she felt, it also left a bit of a raw aching inside her chest as well.

“I’ve kissed a lot of people since powering up. But only two… maybe three in all those years have I ever held any true feelings for. None know,” Blue gemstone colored eyes looked down into the field of violets and in them was a hallow sadness associated with revealing such a lonely reality. “But it’s mostly because I don’t truly understand those feelings myself. Only one had ever held me in a way that made me feel like…” She paused, eyes searching for the right words. “Like I was just an ordinary girl again.”

“Sounds silly I know.” Meridiana smiled and made a humming sound that came close to a light laugh but without any humor. “But I guess that’s because we’re both dreamers.” She transferred the three strands of the braid over to one hand then lifted her other to hold his hand in place against her face. It was warm, slightly calloused, yet despite the opposing aura radiating off him, Meri did not want him to let go quite yet.

Whisler hesitated, watching her for a long moment. He was gentle as he tugged his hand out of her grasp and got up, moving to wrap his arms around the corrupt, pulling her against his own chest and holding her securely. “You’ll never be an ordinary girl, Meri. You’re far too extraordinary.”

He placed a kiss atop her head and relaxed, holding her close, taking the time now to run his fingers though her hair. Hoping to provide as much comfort as he could, the same as she had done. “And it doesn’t sound silly. You’re a person with feelings, you want to be seen as that rather than someone who’s…obsessed with sex or whatever people are trying to say about you. It’s not true, and I can see that, everyone can see that.” He paused and sighed, tucking his chin atop her head.

“Everyone who takes thirty seconds to actually get to know you, at least. You have a big heart, and it makes it so easy for it to get bruised. And…Meri, I like how that sounds. That you and I are both dreamers. It…makes it sound like it shouldn’t be something that’s shied away from…like it’s something wonderful…and I’m…inclined to agree. Sometimes though…I just wish there was more of me to go around. I want to be there to make everyone happy.”

He pressed another kiss to the top of her head, feeling suddenly protective of this corrupt. “…I’m quite sure that includes you now, Miss Meri. I’m…honored that you felt you could be so open with me.”

The trust she had in him was probably because, despite all the things he had offered, her heart seemed to believe it would never happen. That after this evenings’ goodbyes they would part ways and she would never see him again. It was a thought that made her heartache because, in all honesty, she truly wanted to try and help him. Maybe this Ashanite could help be the bridge that allows her to see him again but what if he didn’t want to be involved?

Meridiana folded her hands into her lap and leaned her head against his shoulder. “I don’t feel worthy of your kindness, but I am grateful for it all the same.” The tender kisses he pressed against the top of her head were not of the lustful kind that expected something in return. They brought her back to a similar tender moment with a kind senshi. He had golden-yellow hair and lavender eyes similar to his which made her wonder if they were possibly brothers.

“I want to help you Whisler,” she looked up at him. “I want to help you find your happiness,” she reached up to cup the side of his cheek as she had done earlier “If you truly want to come back to the Negaverse, I will do what I can to try and find away. I’m nowhere as strong as you are, nor do I think I will ever be. But if you’ll let me I want to try.” However, if he were to in turn, or later on down the road, tell her that he was happy, or even content, on remaining as he is now then she would not push him to re-corrupt.

Zinkenite might have answers but she would not ask him unless she was positive it was something Whisler truly wanted.

He smiled down softly at her and nodded. “Then come see me again. Let’s plan for it. We can go to my wonder and spend time together. I want to be your friend, Meri. Badly.” Quietly, Whisler rested his chin lightly on the top of her head and gave a long sigh, letting his muscles relax as he held her.

“Meet me here next week? Say around…seven? Bring something to eat, if you’d like and I’ll bring something too, and we can go up to my wonder and have a nice picnic. And maybe spend some time in the hot spring. It’s so nice to just relax in there, I hope you’ll like it.”

He was quiet for another moment. “…I would miss it. I won’t lie. I would miss the ease of going there when I pleased, and the utter beauty of it. If you have any winter clothing, bring that with you too, I have some spare jackets up there that you can use, but at least bring something to cover your legs! It’s very cold when we leave the building…but the view is utterly breathtaking, so I fully insist that we leave the building.”

Whisler gave a soft smile. “…I’m very excited to share it with you…please say that you’ll come with me?”

“Seven p.m. a week from today?” She repeated. Leaning her head against his chest Meridiana pulled from him what warmth and comfort he offered as the thought of cold weather made goosebumps run down her arms despite it being warm outside.

“To my knowledge, I don’t think there is anything going on that day.” At least nothing that couldn’t be moved. “As long as you can promise it will be just you and I, I’ll be there.” There was a nervousness in her tone that suggested something had happened in the recent past that made her wary. But at least she was willing to put herself out there and try to overcome whatever it was that had put that fear in her.

“I trust you, I do. But it’s a bit of a leap of faith, and I’m not sure I’d have the courage to meet up with you if there were other people here too.” A hot spring with a gorgeous view sounded amazing especially with the scorching weather they had been having as of late. A getaway suited for a group of people rather than two strangers learning about each other, trying to become friends.

Whisler smiled softly, nodding and running his fingers though her hair. “Good. Then we’ll make a date night of it.” He listened to her words and gave a soft laugh. “Please. Don’t be afraid. I’m honored that you trust me. Honored that you want to spend more time with me. I will never allow any harm to ever befall you while I am around, Meri. I will be your knight, and I will protect you always.”

He kissed the top of her raspberry colored hair once more. “Your faith will be rewarded, and I swear that nobody else will be around. I wouldn’t want to share you anyway.”

The knight winked and pulled away, somewhat reluctantly. “Seven o’clock! Maybe plan to stay the night, who knows. Time never seems to matter up on Whisler, I’ll tell you that much. You get lost in the moment. And I have a nice sized mattress that I brought up. We can snuggle if you want.”

“We will see what happens when the time comes.” It wasn’t a no but it wasn’t a yes either. Despite her flirty nature and the fact she was also the senshi of the succubus, Meridiana was still a virgin who had never shared a bed with another person.

Sure she had followed both men and women to their hotel rooms or apartments, on invitation after a date, but she had always drained them completely of energy before anything had ever happened. Leaving her unsuspecting dates passed out on the bed from sheer exhaustion with nothing more than sweet dreams of fantasies that never happened. However, with Whistler this would not be an option and that actually made her a bit nervous; even though she hid it well.

“One week, right here.” Meridiana gave his hand a gentle squeeze and took a step back. “I will see you then,” she smiled genuinely. “And thank you for helping me with my quota tonight, I truly appreciate your kindness. My knight in-” she glanced at his outfit since the normal saying didn’t hold true in this case “in purple and fur-trimmed armor.” Sounded as stupid saying it outloud as it did in her head but it made her laugh nonetheless.

Whisler smiled warmly and gave a bow, that was only slightly over exaggerated and with a wink, he turned and departed, his heart feeling light for the first time in a while. He had someone to come up to his wonder with him, someone who might be able to help…or perhaps someone he might be able to help.

It was so stupid, how his mind worked after he was away from the sweet burn of the chaos…how he thought of how the person would be dressed in white rather than their normal dark hues.

Well. He wouldn’t push, and if he was able to become Mariposite again, he wouldn’t be upset. It would be lovely to be sheltered in those soft arms for the foreseeable future.

And of course…there was always Ashanite. But. Those were thoughts for another time.

Thoughts for when something actually happened.
