Maybe it was the sound of the security guard falling that gave them away but for the briefest of moments Theodore felt the tingling presence of order on his senses. His head snapped up and his eyes were wide, looking this way and that while trying to concentrate on maintaining energy dampening but it was too late.
Because he'd lost his concentration to beam the security guard, their auras flashed too brightly and the curious white moon disappeared, flickering out of his perception.
Mumbling a string of colorful candy curses, Theodore called to the others.
"They're gone. I-- Let's regroup and head back. We'll try again later." He fully expected one of them to come collect him and carry him back to the hotel.
Walking was for peasants and he was no peasant.
