She smiled widely as he spoke. She was so glad he was happy! She'd worked hard on it, and to hear that he was pleased made her heart jump.
He brought out the samples and she moved closer to him, staring at the tiles. "well it's good that most of them are blue, since that's a compliment to orange." she started with, picking up one tile and staring at the sea shell design on the paper. "this one is nice and swirly, which juxtaposes the hard lines of gemstones. She floated closer, grabbing the fossil one." But this is cool because fossils are stones, and so is the crab... " Holding the tile and paper up to eye level, Water forgot that she was still moving, bumping into the other mer. She looked up to find herself very much in Lettuce's personal space and quickly moved, saying "Oh I'm sorry!" with a sheepish smile.

Lettuce watched her, he enjoyed moments like this when Stone was obviously in her element, talking more and calm. He hadn't notice her getting closer until she bumped against him. A blushed appearing on his face and he let out a soft chuckle. "It's fine, dudette, like no harm."
He quickly move on back to what they were talking about, still blushing. "Can we like, combine them? Like maybe we can like..." He grabbed some loose tiles, using white ones to make the spiral design of the fossil and surrounding it wit blue tiles. "Like..something like that?"

She inched back toward him, watching through her lashes to make sure she didn't nudge him again. Not that she'd mind. She turned her attention to the tiles, watching him arrange them in the spiral design. "That could work.....maybe a couple of the blue ones have the fossil design to mirror it.." She nudged a few tiles in place, liking the design more and more.
"That would really work great!" she exclaimed, looking from the tile work to the crab. She could already picture the two together, one fantastic statue.
"Would you mind asking the contractor to add a couple of two inch poles to the back of the block? " She asked, staring at the crab. "I'm thinking the weight will probably need to be supported. I've got wires holding it up now, but I don't think you'd like that at your store." she giggled.

He nodded slowly as she put together a few more tiles onto his design. "It does look great!"
Lettuce grabbed a piece of paper and began coping the design onto it, pausing to look at the wires holding up the statue. In all honesty he wouldn't mind the wires, but the crab would be sitting too far from the shack to accommodate them. "I am sure they can do it easily." He smiled, adding a note at the top of the paper to order the two inch poles to be added, and then he went back to write down the colors of the tiles they were using. "This is going to look so rad!"

She watched him sketch with a smile. His excitement was contagious, and she felt it bubble inside her, released by his use of one of her favorite words. "It's gonna be totally rad!" she said, "The best looking sign in all of Phonyland I bet!"
"So where you off to after here?" she asked, wondering if he made the trip just to come here, or if it was part of a laundry list of locations he needed to go to.

"Oh, well, I don't really have anything planned after this. I wanted to um know what you thought, but I didn't planned much after that. I guess I could go put in this order so it'll be ready when the crab is." Lettuce looked at the statue, considering how long the new additions and the costume tile work will take.

She became more reserved. "So I supposed you'll have to get going soon then?" She didn't really want him to go, but she couldn't say that to him. That would be weird! She shuffled a few gems on her workbench, trying not to look bummed.

Geode was not being a creeper but she was totally spying on her sister and the peach colored merboy. Why was Water acting like this? She never behaved this way even around people who were exuberant. It baffles the purple wonder until they started talking about later activities.
Oh.

GAWD!!!
Geode has to literally stuff her hoof in her mouth to keep from high pitch squealing. Her sister had a crush and he obviously liked her back!!! But they both seemed a bit hopeless in setting anything up. Well it was a good thing Geode was there!! She had a perfect idea.
Geode suddenly appeared next to Water, putting an arm around her sister’s shoulders. “Oh hiiiiiii Lettuce! Good ta see ya! Hey sit tight for a sec, me and Water gotta lay some deets down real quick and she’ll be right back!”
With that she navigated Water to the back room and then had the biggest grin on her face, “And WHEN were you gonna tell me you were digging on this hunkalicious hottie? Causes it’s like SO obvious?”

Water was about to respond when, like a purple shadow, Geode appeared. She about jumped out of her skin, emitting a small "eep!" and she was hastily ushered into the back room while her sister grinned like a mad woman.
"Geode what the heck are you doi-" she was cut off by her sister practically yelling. Water gasped, covering over mouth while her face turned eight shades of red. She'd noticed?! SHE'D BEEN SPYING!? Water wanted the world to swallow her upright then and there.
"whyyyy were you spying on me!?" she exclaimed, muffled by her hooves. She moved them and furiously whispered "And will you stop SHOUTING!? He'll hear you!" her cheeks burned hotly as she covered Geodes mouth this time.
She looked anywhere but at Geode. "I don't know if he even likes me! So there was no way I was gonna say anything and... And.." and get my hopes up She thought, though she said "and make an idiot of myself!"

Lettuce blinked really slowly as he was left alone at the workbench, baffled by the sudden swiping of his conversation pal. "....okay...?"
He hoped it wasn't an emergency, and while he could hear Geode's excited voice, it was muffled by the door. He picked up a few stones on the counter top, trying to guess what they were.

Geode couldn’t help but smile despite Water’s obvious embarrassment. Her sister had found love, without any help from Geode! Now she had to make sure it continued, that part took a bit more. She thought as her sister covered her mouth and spoke about not wanting to look like a fool expressing her love.

Perfect!
She took her sister’s hooves into hers, a warm loving smile on her face. “Sis I’m so happy you found someone and I want to like, totally get you two hooked. And I know the perfect way! And the perfect person to help! One sec!”
She flew over to their see through phone and began to dial a very familiar number, grinning the whole time and giving a wink to Water. Once the other phony picked up the line she immediately went into flirt mode. “Hey baby, always good to hear your voice. So I need a favor and it comes with the best reward. My sister is sprung on this stud and they both ain’t got no zing to their lines. So I was thinking a little double trouble at the Karaoke bar. You wanna be my Clyde for the night?”

She couldn't help but smile a little at her sisters excitement, a smile that gave her butterflies. It was nice wasn't it? Her joy was mixed with confusion as Geode scampered away to talk to someone. She recognized the flirtatious ring to her voice and tilted her head to one side. Who was Geode talking to? She also wondered how Lettuce was doing alone, and ventured to peek out from the back room.
"it'll be juuuust one more minute." she said sheepishly. "just some... Ordering deadlines I have to put in... Order."
Good grief.
The phone rang in his dressing room as he was on his second martini of the day. Show days always required martinis. He flipped the phone over and recognized the number. He smiled and picked up the phone.
"My Purple Canary." he said, putting down the glass in his hoof. "I was wondering when I'd get to hear that sweet voice of yours. What's up doll?" Crooner sat and listened, occasionally looking confused. Her way of speaking sometimes confused him, but he was getting better at recognizing the lingo.
"Ah so sis is sweet on a cat thats got it bad too huh?" he said, making sure he got the context right. "I'd love to do karaoke. I get to help your sister AND see my Bonnie? Can't get a better night!"
A mare with a tight bun opened the dressing room door and waved at him, tapping a clipboard. He nodded and said "Hey darlin' I'm being called out for my set, but what say we meet up tomorrow night and show them how we swing?"

Lettuce was entertaining himself by picking up gems, trying to guess what they were, and then coming up with a ridicules name for them.Like Holo pebbles for a rainbow opal shards, murder stones for a heliotrope, and the void for obsidian. Crab's species names weren't too complicated, and it showed in Lettuce's creativity.
He smiled and nodded when he saw Stone, holding onto a blue gem gingerly. "Of course, take your time! Like I said, I am not in a hurry today."

Geode grinned as Crooner agreed to her idea. She knew he would, he had too much rhythm in his soul to not what a night of singing and her company. [b[ “Sounds most excellent my Heart Flutter. See you tomorrow night!”
With that she hung up the phone and flew back over to Water. “Ok sis I got this down. Go out there and ask him to come to Karaoke Night with us tomorrow. I’ve got a hot date and I don’t want to go completely by myself. So I need you two along for the ride. You dig?”

"Later doll. " he said, hanging up and adjusting his tie and hat. Showtime! And a date tomorrow to boot!
Water closed the door just as she hung up. "And just who was that!" she said, pointing at the phone. She listened to Geodes plan, getting paler and paler. "You want me to WHAT!?" she squeaked "Oh my gawd Geode you HAVE to be kidding!"
But it was clear she was not. Water started wide eyed at her for a few seconds, and sighed shakily. She.. She could do this right?
The mer opened the door slowly, coming out from the door and making it a point to shut her sister in there. There was no way she was going this with a nosy purple pegasister staring with her evil little grin.
"Sorry that took a while, there were a... Lot of orders." she said, coming back to the workbench. Her heart was hammering in her chest and she didn't say anything for a few seconds. Finally, she took a deep breath.
"So Geode is going to karaoke with..." seriously who was that? ".. With someone I guess and she wants me to but I don't want to go alone and I was thinking that maybeyou'dwannagowithme?" the words tumbled over themselves as she rushed to get them out before her throat closed up. She shut her eyes tight, feeling her face practically burst into flames.
