Character:Max Current Square: 10 to 15 (9=1 / 15=2) Response: Max looked at the trails and looked at who was going which direction he didn't know anyone here yet so he flipped a coin and chose a direction and along he went. He wasn't sure what he would find but there was a 50/50 chance he would find something great and the same chance he would get lost in the forest with part of the group never to be found again. It was hard to guess what would happen in this hunt for Dr. Horn, he laughed he didn't even know anything about Dr.Horn or the host who had asked for volunteers to find them. This was an adventure though, he adjusted his sunglasses this light was new to him and hard on his eyes.

Character:Troy Current Square: 10 to 15 Response:"A researcher? Interesting....so if anything, you have the ability to think in a similar manner to how Dr. Horn might have. That's good." His eyebrows raised at the news and he nodded thoughtfully, making a mental note. "Well, you're not entirely on your own, either. It's better if we pool our knowledge and efforts together...but I do believe you have good insight that can help us in this." Troy heard someone else call out to them and turned to look at the Baphomet that had decided to come this direction as well, offering a warm smile. "Sometimes the big things don't tell us the whole story or can overshadow the real pieces to the puzzle."
When they found the bifurcating deer trail, it made the naiad feel uneasy; it meant they would need to split up more in order to cover more ground. While he didn't like the idea, it made the most sense. "Alright. Be careful and make note of any kind of markers so you can find your way back if you have to." He was certain that he sounded like an over-worried parent but in missing persons cases it was hard not to see the possibility of the same thing happening to someone else. He made a quick sketch of the diverging paths and used his utility knife to mark a tree in the direction the Baphomet went, then the one he and the tall girl were going down. He...really should probably exchange names with her at least. He followed the tall hybrid and made additions to the sketch as they walked, keeping his eyes peeled and looking around for anything strange. "It's possible that they could have used this as a guideline for their exploration....but I'm willing to bet they deviated somewhere down the road." He mused aloud as he caught up to the tall girl. "Oh..I'm Troy, by the way. Sorry for not introducing myself earlier."
Character:Cian Current Square: 5 to 10 Response: A large clawed hand rubbed carefully at his forehead. If there was one thing that he was skilled at, it was sleeping in otherwise immensely uncomfortable places. Well. Meditating was more like it, for the majority of the ride out in the carriages. The amount of people within each had been staggering to him, and the large grimm-hybrid had especially felt the cramped impact of the close quarters. So he'd found himself a place to sit up on the roof of the carriage he was in, and just... slept, for all intents and purposes. Sure, he roused himself enough to eat and converse here and there. But the bits of information he did gain didn't elaborate on what little he knew himself of the expedition. Beyond finding a lost professor.
Golden eyes had narrowed a bit towards a few in the group, and again as they began to disperse to begin their searches, Cian found himself wondering how many more would be requiring a rescue operation.
Rolling his shoulders, various straps and metals of his armor clinking and grinding, he took a deep breath and set out towards the forest. A number of others were also heading in that direction, and he did intend to at least try to keep somewhat track of those he could. They didn't know what was out here, after all. And while he might joke to himself about adding more to the pile that needed rescuing... he didn't exactly want that to be a reality.
So he took his time as he began to make his way among the pines and oaks. Considering the environment, each tree he passed, he reached up high to slice a large claw through the bark and meat of the trunk. Each slash was ended with a small slice down, a makeshift arrow he could recognize to note to himself which direction he'd gone forward in. In the chance he got turned around, it offered an easy key for him to spot even in an emergency. Now and then he paused to survey the ground and branches for signs of passage; though he recognized the fact that, given the period of time between potential passage of the professor and their arrival, such signs likely could be weather worn or hidden beneath other animal tracks.

Character:Oiche Current Square: still in square 15, its an rp response
“Yeah just don’t ask me what he researches. I made the mistake of telling the people in the carriage and it didn’t go so well” Oiche sighed. She wasn’t a crackpot or out for money. She just wanted to document and regulate a science that people didn’t understand. It was here she remembered rowan, how scared he was when he was hearing things he didn’t understand. She wanted them to be able to go to a book when no one else could help and get the answers they needed. It was hard when you were a cache child or even the only medium in your family. Everyone gave you a hard time, and she wanted to help with that.
“I probably do, or at least I can give a rough estimate, I’m still in university but researching has been my whole life. Part of why I went down the trail. If they were out to find new discoveries then animal trails are a good way to go…. I would hope. I run into the problem of over analyzing, like what if I am giving them too much credit or maybe there reasoning was unscientific? Probably why you are supposed to research in pairs to be honest. Your partner can talk you out of your overthinking.” ugh why wasn’t there a ghost around to ask when she needed it. Then again she had company so it was probably a good thing until she figured out how to discreetly talk to it… or with her luck it would be the ghost of a bunny rabbit or the like.
“It’s perfectly fine, sometimes you just can’t find the right moment to introduce yourself when the conversation starts. Pleasure to meet you Troy. I’m Oiche.” She replied. Okay introductions were done, you followed that with a small smile right? Well anyways she gave a small smile.
Character:Raliegh Current Square: 4 to 3 Response: Raliegh kicked his feet into the ferns looking for anything that might be even semi-useful. Sticking his hands into his pockets he called over his shoulder. "So what brings someone... like you out here. You don't look much of an explorer, did you know the professor?" Who was he to talk really, after all, he was a tall Grimm in a three-piece suit who looked as out of place as he felt. He had read the professors works though and upon news of their disappearance, he just had to do something. Now he was out in the wilderness probably getting lost in a forest with a pretty Kumiho.
"I never did introduce myself, I am sorry for that. It wasn't very polite of me now was it?" He put a hand on his stomach and bowed formally with a bright smile on his face. "Sir Raliegh at your service Madame" He looked up and his face fell into one of confusion. She was just right there! Turning his head from right to left he lifted a brow. "Hello? Lady?" All the trees looked the same and the only sound he heard was birds chirping and the occasional cricket. Perhaps she had just moved on farther into the forest. After all, it appeared that there was nothing here for him to dwell on. He marked a line in his notebook before continuing in the same direction, he was pretty sure anyway. He checked his surroundings every once in a while, surely she couldn't have disappeared. He hadn't hallucinated her... right?

Character:Troy Current Square: Staying in 15 (rp response) Response: Hearing that made Troy frown; what could be so bad that people would react badly enough to upset her? "I'm sure it isn't that bad and an important field that isn't well understood, that being the case." He spoke gently, a light smile on his face. He may be a military man but he knew there was a lot out there that couldn't be counted out when it came to the sciences. He listened curiously as she spoke of her reasoning for choosing this trail, nodding slowly as it made solid enough sense to him. "Well, I think that you make a very valid point in your thinking. It does make sense and we definitely can't count out that something might have made them do something illogical. We shouldn't rule out any possibility without evidence to say otherwise, after all."
Seeing the small smile was a good sign to him and he smiled in return. "Oiche….that's a nice, unique name. It's a pleasure to meet you, too." Troy seemed to bow his head a little as a respectful gesture, then found another tree that seemed like a good midway point and carved another marker into the bark. He made a note of it in his notebook, as well. "For some of the nicknames given to this area, it seems oddly peaceful. Nothing out of the ordinary from any other forest, so far." More musings out loud, which was a weird habit he seemed to have. Then again, he mused to himself aloud a lot when he was out on his surfboard. It seemed to help him sort out his thoughts.
Character:Oiche Current Square: still in square 15 (rp response)
She lightly bit her lip and looked out into the sparse tree line, why was there never an interesting animal to stare at when you needed it. “Well he studies the paranormal, so extremely not understood” she finally decided to answer before turning back. “Even if it’s a field most people scoff at, we’re good scientists I would like to think and we want to lay the foundation so it can be taken more seriously.” Hopefully this wouldn’t be a repeat of the carriage ride. Not that the carriage ride was a complete disaster once she escaped to the roof for a while. Mostly she had just helped steer it to marine biology. “one of the first rules of research, everything is a guess until you have proof and even then its only known fact until something comes along to change it.
However then she got a nod and a smile when introductions came along. So…perhaps… maybe she was leveling up on this whole socialization thing? Truthfully she shouldn’t be able to count it as a win until she had more friends than just Rune, and rune was more the little sibling she had been assigned to help through academy. Huh could helios count? Yeah no that wasn’t important… forest with scary rumors were.
“Well that’s how it all starts, sunshine and bunnies and peaceful breezes and then well you lower your guard and forget to look up and the bunnies turn into monsters with sharp teeth and bam you are never seen from again. If you follow horror movie plots that is. I am sure the weird things are sure to come” she answered.

Character:Troy Current Square: Staying in 15 (rp response) Response:"Paranormal science? I see....well, it definitely is a misunderstood field. Still, it can't be so easily dismissed when you have things like EVP evidence and such." He was musing out loud again and realized it, actually blushing slightly for the first time. "I got into paranormal stuff when I got out of boot camp and was working towards my occupation. It helped break the monotony of my studies but I saw a lot of merit in some studies." Troy would have gladly admitted under pressure by his superiors that he found scientific truth in some of the research done in the paranormal field, even if it earned him a laugh.
Hearing Oiche outline how most horror tropes tended to work out made him chuckle...though it did settle in his mind that things like that could actually happen. It was...unnerving...and cemented his want to find Dr. Horn before anyone else disappeared. "I don't doubt that we have not even scratched the surface of what this area has to offer. We definitely should stay on our toes."

As you go deeper into the forest, the trees grow closer together and the undergrowth thicker. Some brambles from a thorny bush snag on your clothes, catching you fast. You have to spend a few minutes disentangling yourself.
Roll 1d4 to escape. On a roll of 3+ you succeed, and may move again.
You may roll 3 times to attempt to escape this square. Each attempt must be accompanied by at least 50 words of RP. If you do not escape by the end of the day, something may happen...
One Little Jay
Prompt for Square 9
You see a glimpse of white amongst the trees. At first it seems like a feather, but... After a bit of climbing, you successfully retrieve it - a page from Dr Horn's expedition journal.
"Day Fourteen. It's been four days since Nathaniel and Hilda abandoned us - yes, abandoned I say! The others won't stop pestering me, saying we must look for them. We came to the edge of a forest and I assure you, future self reading this journal, I shall not enter. Alexander is one of my best topographers and his arm is... Well, he cannot draw nor write. No, we must stay out here in the open, these simple minded fools I've hired would get lost in that maze."
You have found a Clue!
Duke of Donut
Prompt for Square 15
Your path through the forest takes you down a gradual decline. The trees begin to thin and you find yourself in a sunny clearing. As you press onward though, you step right through the ground and sink waist deep into a thick peat bog.

Prompt for Square 10
You find a worn path through the trees, dappled with sunlight. It looks to be a deer trail, with bits of brush stamped into the earth and twigs snapped off the nearby shrubbery.

Character:Oiche Current Square: still in square 15 (rp response)
“Yeah we’ve always been able to see and hear ghosts and when dad got caught off from his family’s accounts well he wanted to help those who didn’t have family to support them. Of course you mention ghost and everyone starts laughing at you so he set out to add some validation. I am just glad he never got into a situation like Dr. Horn.” Oiche commented and then had to smile. “No there is a lot of evidence but many people don’t want to believe it because it scares them and they can’t see or hear it themselves. I am glad to actually meet a person who can keep an open mind about it”. It was a first, most people she knew that believed her where mediums themselves in some way.
“I definitely plan to” Oiche agreed. “after all maybe all the dark rumors are just smoke, however what is that expression. Where there is smoke there is fire. There has to be a grain of truth in it all” the problem was, what was the grain of truth. She looked down the deer trail and wondered what it would reveal.
Character:Oiche Current Square: still in square 15 (trying to escape attempt one)
As they continued down Oiche made note in her mind that the trees started to thin again, and suddenly there was a sunny clearing. Maybe it was the horror movie they were joking they were in before but she didn’t trust it at all. However they had to get through it, and maybe there was a clue somewhere in there. Unfortunately stupid clearing was a peat bog and oiche had stepped in an unsafe area. Now she just need to get out of it.

Character: Amity Current Square: 9 to 8
Amity wasn't worried about going off on her own at this point -- the trail made her much more comfortable with finding her way back if she got spooked, and she felt that splitting up would definitely be of more benefit when the groups reconnected. Still, more eyes might have spotted things that Amity was missing, because she was sure she was missing something.
Or maybe not. At first, Amity really had written that white speck off as feathers, or maybe a weirdly colored leaf. But recalling what they'd said before, about a clue being anything at all, she couldn't help but go after her. Thankful for her height giving her a leg up in terms of climbing to grab the paper, she hopped back down and looked it over, frowning a little as she read.
"So the doc probably didn't come into the forest." She said with a sigh, frowning a little. "But two others did, and didn't come out..." She looked back up the path from where she'd come, considering whether she should head back to tell the group or not, and then looked further down the path in the direction she was on. "If there are others here, you gotta try." She muttered to herself, and carried on in the same direction.
Whether she found the missing members of Dr. Horn's party, more answers, or more questions, would be seen the further down this path she went. She tucked the clue inside her journal for now, and tucked the journal back in her bag for safe-keeping. She could share her clue with the others later.

Character:Max Current Square: 15 Response: Max looked at the worn path through the trees and watched the sunlight on the leaves of the oak trees he still wasn't used to this type of light but his sunglasses helped to mute the light so it wasn't so hard on his eyes that were only used to the light levels in the bellow. He was following the trail as he had been for a little bit now when he heard a twig snap somewhere nearby. He looked around trying to determine where the sound had come from so he could go and check out what was making the sound. He looked around then to see if anyone else was with him in the forest or if they had all split up at this point. He looked over and saw another hybrid there seemed to be a lot of them on this trip. Max laughed to himself wondering if hybrids were the adventurous type. He turned and looked again trying to decide what direction he would go next.

Character:Troy Current Square: 15 (escape attempt 1) Response: As he was listening and talking to Oiche, he had done exactly what he had been trying to NOT do; fail to pay attention. He didn't notice the thinning trees, which should have been clue one to say they were heading into something new, but it wasn't until the sunlight came through that he took notice....and by that point, he had already stepped into the peat bog. He tried to move but he could feel the peat suctioning his feet firmly in place. Ok....don't panic....take it slow and keep calm.
Character:Oiche Current Square: still in square 15 (trying to escape attempt two) she freed herself so moving to square 14 Rule number one was don’t panic. Worst came to worst she could just expend all her energy and teleport to a dry spot back where she knew it was safe land. However only being 1/6 geist it would expend a lot of energy so last resort. No, she needed to keep a calm head and analyze the situation. She was waist deep. She remembered the trip she went on with her father where he got stuck in quick sand. The trick was look around for something to help her. There where stones over there she could hoist herself to. So slow but purposeful steps was the next thing. Lying back to give herself more surface area she worked on slowly freeing one of her legs. Once she had that one free she would work on the other. There leg free. Now she just needed to get the other one. Deep breaths… take it slow and easy. Don’t panic, don’t flail around and don’t wriggle. Exhaustion and exposure was what killed people not being pulled under… well most of the time.
Now she just needed to get to more solid ground. So back on the uncertain ground. She would just have to crawl or snake the rest of the way through the bog to solid ground. Oiche briefly entertained the thought that if Dr. Horn was alive she may kill him. Of course it wasn’t his fault mostly that she had picked the booby trapped deer trail. Now that she had a plan it was time to see if she could help any others who had gotten stuck.
