Quinaro A distinct noise could be heard nearby Athena as someone apparently warped there. It was a pretty familiar noise to many of the people here--the noise of the Forest High Serenitian's teleportation. Quinaro ran a hand through his hair, sighing as he appeared there. "Stupid mud goddess..." He muttered. He glanced towards the statue of Aemon, the departed king, and... noticed the one in front of it. "Hey, Athena," he walked towards her, waving with a small smile on his features. "How's my favorite royal doing?" Quinaro was pretty close to the royal family it seemed--which made some sense. He was one of the first Forest Serenitians to become a High Serenitian in years--it was a high honor and Aemon recognized that. "You mind giving me a hug? I've had a bit of a day." He said, holding his arms out to hug her. He knew she loved hugs! "Sorry I don't come around here as often as I used to... things are getting more and more complicated with the other High Serenitians. Nothing I should be talking about, but you can keep a secret, right?" He seemed so much more calm and happy here than he did when he met with the others. Though it didn't hurt that Athena was here. Seeing her always brightened his day. She was just so adorable. How could anyone stay in a bad mood around her? "I know things have been rough... you must not have a lot of people to talk to." Almost like that thing she was just talking about. Quinaro had some decent intuition, it seemed. He glanced towards the statue, letting out a small sigh. "You sure left a lot behind, Aemon..." He muttered to himself. It seemed like s**t really hit the fan after Aemon's death. He turned towards Athena again. "Anything you want to do, Athena? I know my name doesn't start with an A like all you cool people, but I'm sure you could find worse people to hang out with. Even if I might be a bit boring." He wanted to get her mind off whatever might be bothering her. He could tell something was--and being around the statue of her father might only make things worse in the long term. She did love talking to him, even though he was gone, but still. "Though if I'm interrupting, we can hang out later." He didn't know if she'd be as thrilled since he wasn't family, but Quinaro had been pretty close to the royal family for a while. It wasn't too different. He hoped. Then again, he didn't come around as often these days, as he said... Who knew? (( OOC: ))

"This is kind of fun..I don't know why, but it is! " Kana looked out the makeshift little window of the tree house, which over looked...more forest! Surprise there. So many tree's, it was no wonder this was Athena's secret hide out. It wouldn't be very easy to find, even with the sense of presence's Serenitians had the gift of. "So it's safe to assume were safe in our secret meetings, day four and nothing. " She grinned at her. "Your elfy people aren't so keen after all, are they? " Yes, it had been four days now since she started to visit with Athena. At first it was kind of her just stumbling upon the lonely elf-princess, but they quickly seemed to hit it off in a fast friendship. They both were pretty chatty, too, so that helped. Especially for Athena, who never had anyone to really talk to. "So are you suuuure you don't want to come with me? If they're not detecting me in all this time, I don't think they will know you are gone. I can help you see the world, like my Artie did for me.." Of course, her seeing the world was a whole different level, she had to learn how to see it in a much better form, to learn to enjoy things and leave behind her urges to cause chaos. Of course, she wasn't completely free of those urges, she was here, wasn't she? It was safe to say she was ready for anything that came her way. "I don't completely get why you listen to these stupid orders, though. Your mother kicked your only siblings out, she won't let you see them, or them to come back here. Is that worth really listening to? " She still so badly wanted to put that woman in escapable chains for eternity. Unfortunate that she already knew sweet Athena here wouldn't allow any ill treatment to her evil mother!

Athena smiled, giggling softly as she peeked her head out the window. "Mmhmm! " She moved back, so she was sitting next to Kana again. "It's my favorite place! I feel so comfortable here, its strange to not feel the same comfort at home..not even in my own room! But here..I can remember my best memories with them..Even one time when we were all together playing here, our father found us! I thought we would be in trouble for being away from home but you know what? He just smiled, and handed us a bunch of treats! He said it was our secret...So, every now and then, he would come back with treats without anyone ever knowing!" Everyone as in their mother, the life of a busy king who seemed to still always make time for his family, even if it was a short time or one that might get him in trouble with his Queen! "Um, so..what about you? Do you have any precious memories with your family? " She didn't know a lot about Kana or her own family, and she found herself more curious about hers, a Reaper's past wasn't something a lot of people got to hear about, then again, no one in her kingdom would want to know. Kana looked at her, only to lift her hand in a waving motion. "Ah,haha...I don't think you want to know about mine. He's not worth talking about, have you ever heard of Fenris? That's my father. We don't get along, especially not anymore. He wanted so much for me to be like him, but thanks to Artie, my cutie stalker, I'm no longer following him! Despite what your mother believes, there are good Reapers in the world..She's just to closed-minded to believe it! " She really wanted to say other words to describe her, but, decided to be nice in the presence of her daughter. "But..I really hope she will come around to see that. Someday she will see you, and others like you aren't all bad, right? ...." She didn't sound so sure about that herself, her disappointed voice made that clear enough. "And then...! She will let Alisa and Aeon back in...back home! " Yeah, these were just dreams of hers that likely would never come true. "..Can you come with me?..I really, really would love for you to meet someone! But, in case anyone senses you, you have to promise me you will escape, teleport away and not fight. Okay?" Kana's brief pause seemed as though she were in some kind of deep thought! What was she thinking? ...Eventually, she did agree to her terms by a simple nod..and the two would start their leave of the tree house, where Athena lead Kana over to......
..........Her father's statue, otherwise known as his grave. "I told father I would introduce him to anyone I ever thought were special, and your my special new friend! " She grabbed Kana's arm, pulling her over so that they were both now standing before the statue, Athena's face was so full of light, she was beaming! "Father! Look, I made a friend...! You would love her, too! She's proof of how good Reapers can be, just what you believed in.." She gave Kana a tiny nudge forward. "He,he...Introduce yourself!" "........." Oh, god. Why was this so very, very awkward? She wanted her to really...talk..to a statue? This girl was in some serious need of friends, more so then herself! It was actually a little sad, even to her. "..K-Kana...my name..." She blinked, why was she so embarrassed? It was just her and Athena, yet...it felt so embarrassing! ".....!....My name...is Kana...! N-nice to ..meet..you.....elf-king.." But no matter how embarrassing, she couldn't disappoint Athena, the smiling, happiest girl she had ever met. It might of helped more if she actually called him by his real name, or addressed him as king, but hey, Kana was...well, Kana! It turned out to be worth it, by the even even bigger smile that appeared on Athena's face. It was as if she had waited for this moment forever! "You know.." She turned to Athena. "Your father can hear you no matter where you are, right? ...I mean, you don't have to be here just for him to hear you when you want to reach out to him..I learned that too, about my own mother. They might not be here with us in person, but they definitely hear you when you want them too! So, uh, you shouldn't worry about where you are anymore.." That was the most sensitive talk anyone might ever hear from her. But she did mean it!

Althesa "..." Queen Althesa sat on her throne, her eyes closed, seeming in deep meditation."...Queen Althesa," The queen opened her eyes to Quinaro, who put a hand to his hip. "That Reaper is-""Here again." Althesa cut in. "Yes, I am acutely aware of what happens within my own kingdom, Quinaro.""..." The elf High Serenitian crossed his arms. "How many days does this make?""Four.""...Do you want me to... do something?""....." Althesa let out a deep breath, leaning forward and putting a hand to her head. She was so tired. Her head was throbbing.... "...No.""If the citizens discover you allowed a Reaper-""I know!" She snapped, looking up at the High Serenitian. "I've exiled her brother and sister! Am I supposed to just chase away any friend she makes too? ..." She let out another deep breath, rubbing the crease between her eyes. "I hate the Reapers. Far more than you do, I'm sure. You know I don't want any here. It is forbidden. ...But Athena..." She leaned back in her throne. "That girl is all I have...." She shook her head. "'I want her to be happy..." She closed her eyes momentarily. "...If only Aemon was still alive... If that Reaper hadn't killed him, none of this would have happened. Aemon was an idealist who saw the best in everyone, even when it wasn't there. He was a fool, but... he was my fool. I loved him. His death is what caused this family to drift apart. Aeon went looking for revenge and became infected and turned. Alisa left on some grandiose escapade to save the world and ended up Touched. Now they're gone... All I have left is Athena. I can't lose her too. I can't let her leave. I can't let anything happen to her. ...I can't.... I can't...." This was certainly a side of her no one ever saw except Quinaro, and that was because the two shared a deep mutual trust, as Quinaro did with Aemon as well while he was alive. Althesa sounded desperate, as though she didn't want to drive away the only thing she had left. "I want her to be happy. And she's happy... right now... even if it's with one of those despicable creatures... she's... happy..." She lowered her head, sighing heavily."..." Quinaro uncrossed his arms. "I understand. Athena's happiness is important. Trust me, I get it... but I know what would make her the most happy is spending time with her mother."Althesa closed her eyes again for a few moments, before looking at Quinaro. "I am not Aemon," she said. "I cannot... I don't have his charisma. I don't know how to be a loving parent. I was raised as a royal, and my parents never showed me any love or compassion. Anytime I failed, I was punished physically and mentally. Anytime I succeeded, well, that's what was expected. Why should I be praised? I was the crown princess of this kingdom. I was supposed to be perfect. Had my parents not been dead when I married Aemon, they may have disowned me just for the idea. They would have hated him. Open-minded, idealistic, charismatic... and not an ounce of nobility to be found in his veins. I was never held, never praised, never did they once say they were proud of me. For the longest time, I thought this was how parents were supposed to behave to their children. ...It was only after Alisa was born that I learned otherwise." There was almost a hint of softness in her usually cold, hard expression as she continued. "Aemon was so gentle, so caring, so very loving. I was flabbergasted, and horrified. When I confronted him, he just laughed, and said, "isn't that what a parent's supposed to be?"" The hint of a smile spread over her features. "His mother visited after Alisa was born. She showed her in gifts, love, compliments... and she always hugged Aemon, telling him how much she loved him, and how proud she was. I... I could never be that kind of mother." She shook her head, her expression returning to its grim natural state. "Aemon was a perfect father to our children. I can't be that sort of parent.""...." Quinaro closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. "Your childhood must have been difficult. Having parents like that..." He opened his eyes. "Parents who expect perfection. That's just unfair.""Perhaps. But for the longest time, that's how I thought things were supposed to be. I was just supposed to be perfect. Princess Althesa couldn't be anything less. There was no such thing as "good enough." If I didn't do everything flawlessly, I would be struck several times, or they would starve me for weeks until I succeeded, or... any number of things. My mother might invade my mind and torture me with horrific visions of the kingdom in flames as a result of my imperfect leadership--the entire forest burning, the smell of blood and ash intermingling, as I watched my people die, being dismembered before my eyes... I can still remember how real it felt. I could feel the fire nearly melting my skin, I could hear the screams of the children being butchered, I..." Her eyes were wide as she recounted the story. "...When I was very young, I enjoyed speaking to the forest animals. I had a particular friend--a bunny named Rinnoh. I would always go out during my brief break and spend time with her, and other animals too. I used to love the life in the forest so very much. ...Then one day I was a few marks short of a perfect score in a magic test. It was a test about a spell designed to ensnare Reapers and drain them of their power. I preformed the spell favorably, and my instructor said only high-level Reapers could escape the spell the way that I did it." She paused. "That wasn't enough. It was not perfect. There WAS a chance they could escape, and so I had failed. At least, that's what my parents told me. My father said if I didn't waste so much of my time with the animals and actually focused on important things, maybe I wouldn't be such a failure. And so he... I'm sure you can guess." Her eyelids lowered slightly. "He killed Rinnoh. In front of my eyes. He said that it was my fault she had to die--that if I had performed perfectly, as I was expected to, she wouldn't have to die. And as a reminder, he put her head on a pike and put it in my room. Every morning I awoke to that cold, lifeless bunny's face staring at me. A constant reminder of what failure meant. He said it symbolized the lives of the people that I would one day rule. That failure meant all of them would end up just like Rinnoh. That's what the Reapers do. And so, I had to be perfect... ....I had to be perfect.....""....." Gods, that was... horrifying. "That's... awful... I can't even imagine, torture like that... from your own parents...""It may have been extreme, but it was effective." She leaned her head against her fist, closing her eyes. "I am queen now. And I understand why they felt the need to try to make me perfect. Being a ruler is not something one can take lightly.""But that's..." Quinaro shook his head. "That's absurd! How could anyone do that to their child...? I just can't imagine it.""...My parents were not evil. They had extreme methods, but they did what they did out of a genuine desire to make me improve. They never loved me. I don't think they ever even saw me as their child--they only saw me as the next queen, and they raised me to be the best ruler I could be. My feelings, what I wanted, my life... those things were ultimately trivial and unimportant. I was not just Althesa. I was Princess Althesa. I was a princess before I was a daughter or woman. They made that abundantly clear. My life only had meaning if I led my people properly, and protected them." She took a deep breath. Their methods may have been undeniably cruel, but Althesa did not think them evil for that fact. She knew they wanted her to be the best ruler she could be, though it certainly did seem that was as far as their attachment to her stretched. "And what of you, Quinaro? It occurs to me I've never come to know your origin. Were your parents more like mine, or more like Aemon's?""Well... I wouldn't know." Quinaro responded. "I never knew them. I was told they were killed in the Great War, though I heard they may have abandoned or even sold me from other sources. I honestly have no idea, and I don't guess I care that much either. My earliest memory was in the care of the man who raised me,a great hero named Sothiis.""Sothiis...?""You've heard of him?""......He was my brother." Quinaro grunted in surprise. "...Sothiis... My elder brother, one of the heroes of the Great War... even after leaving our kingdom, we continued to hear grand exploits of his adventures. I don't remember very much about him, I only recall speaking to him on a few occasions before he left.""Why did he leave?""Complications between him and our parents, or so I've heard. I was never given the complete story. I heard talk that he had became Touched, but I couldn't tell you if that were true or not. If that were true, knowing my parents, they would have executed him if he returned. It's possible he never did for that reason." It was also possible that her parents were more strict with her as a result of that. ...How ironic, considering how she was with Athena now. History certainly had a way of repeating itself, didn't it."....Small world." Quinaro said, crossing his arms, still surprised at their as-of-yet unknown connection. "To think my mentor was your brother... I never would have thought. Sothiis was the one who turned me into the man I am now. There's no way I would've become a High Serenitian without his teachings, and his guidance. I wonder if he's still alive.""...I'll likely never know." This turned into quite the long and deep conversation, didn't it? ...That seemed to happen a lot when she spoke to Quinaro. He felt like the only one in the world she could still trust, even now--aside from Athena, of course, but that was different. (( OOC: ))
