[Ella Barnett]

"Like, it's a shadow organization, everyone's going to be at least a little hot, so it's okay to thirst a little as long as--"

Something moved in the darkness, and Ella jumped, staring wide-eyed as a skull rolled its way across the cobblestones like some kind of goth tumbleweed. "...Hello?" She called out, receiving only an echo for a response. A moment later, she thought to try again. "...Hewwo?"

There was only silence. Tough crowd. "For a bunch of bones, I thought you'd like a dry sense of humor."

More silence, but this time Ella got the feeling she was being judged. "Yeesh, fine," she sighed, taking a left turn instead of continuing ahead.

[Ella Barnett]

Maybe the puzzle was trickier than Ella originally conceived, and she'd have to move things around. She paused at a wall of urns and sighed, not relishing the idea of having to tip over a bunch of people pots, but when it came to looting, one did what one must.

She tentatively lifted the lid on one of the urns, which displaced enough of the weight on that shelf to topple another one further down. It kicked up a pile of dust--people dust--and Ella couldn't stop wheezing, even if she covered her mouth as she reeled away.

Oh, ew. Gross. She'd just inhaled somebody's dust, and it was probably butt dust. Gross, gross, gross.

[Ella Barnett]

She had to leave the dust somehow. With little regard to a thorough search or covering the most ground, Ella stumbled her way into the first room that she could find, covering her mouth from inhaling any more ashes. Oh god, someone's grandma had probably been in that urn, and now there were contents of that urn in her mouth, which made her a secondhand cannibal. This is what it had come to in the name of survival--breathing in dead people. Ella wanted to vomit, but then she'd be vomiting ashes too, and she just wasn't prepared to think about that.

Thinking herself away from the worst of it, Ella released the grip on her face--and encountered the worst sulfuric smell she'd ever experienced in her life. Worse than burnt hair or bed sores, and it forced its way down her nose and into her lungs, polluting anything resembling good air with its putrid odor. She tried to cover her face again, but it was too late--she couldn't breathe, even away from the corpses, and any inhale she took was nothing but stagnant air and rotting flesh.

Panting, she leaned against a wall, trying desperately to get some oxygen in her system. She couldn't breathe...couldn't...

Somewhere in the catacombs, a lantern snuffed out.

[ Entering Sailor Genbu ]

The shift from that first place to here was startling, disorienting, and Genbu stumbled as she landed, pitching to the side before catching her self a shelf carved into stone walls. "Woah, that's not fun," she huffed, hoisting herself up and glancing around for Seiryuu before looking up to see what she'd caught herself on.

"Jesus ********!" That was a dead body. that was a ******** dead body! She snatched her hand back like the stone had burned her, backing up rapidly from the old corpse on the slab, only to give a startled squeal as she bumped into the opposite wall.

When she whipped around there were more shelves, more bodies. They were surrounded by them. Rows and rows of bones and dust and death disappearing into darkness on all sides. The only light from a lantern resting on the ground beside the wall. The tall girl grabbed it, turning the knob the turn the flame up a little higher. "Where the ******** are we?"

A voice echoed softly through the tunnels. "Just how curious are you? Enough to riffle through the dead? You're looking for a golden bone. Find it, and you pass this trial."

"Oh come on." That was wrong on just so many levels.

Eurydike- Entering

Shortly after, a third body joined them as Eurydike plopped rather gracelessly down into the depths of the catacombs, tumbling onto his knees with a low hiss - not that shocking considering he'd just been a mother ******** porcupine of all things. At least, yes, glory be, "Seiryuu! Genbu!" he had his cousin and he had hands and he wasn't dead. "********, thank god."

Even if they were literally surrounded by dead s**t. Which was like. Awesome. Really. "Ugh. Fuuuuuck. Why is everythin' here weird or dead?" he croaked as he pulled himself to his feet, shaking more dirt out of his hair.

Seiryuu, Senshi of the East- Entering

As soon as they were in, Seiryuu snatched her hand from Genbu, cradling it close to her chest and looking away from the woman. She had just witness her cousin being crushed to death and now they were in a bottle of trials surrounded by death.

She wanted to puke.

She didn't care anymore, if this stupid voice wanted them to rifle through bones, then she'd ******** do it. Her cousin was GONE. Did that even matter?

"Just look." She wiped away tears and hurried over to a body, when a third voice joined them, sounding a lot like her cousin. She turned, stared at the man, mouth open before blinking. "What....the ********?" Was this a trick?

She came up to him, "I saw you die!" She flailed her arms around, "You were CRUSHED." She started to inspect his body and then came to stand in front of him, taking him by the shoulder and shaking him.

"What the ******** is happening?"

[ Genbu ]

Genbu frowned down at the other girl, aware now of what she'd missed when they're first arrived with panic of finding a body stealing the majority of her attention. There were tears in her eyes, her voice thick with emotion that from the taller girl's perspective did not fit the situation. And had she snatched her hand away before? How had she missed that.

"Seiry, why are you crying? What's wrong?" She hadn't seen what her teammate had seen as they'd been left that other realm behind, and in the rush of chaos she hadn't heard, either. As she passed Genbu reached out to touch her shoulder, but her hand fell short as she heard Eurydike joining them.

And then it all made a whole lot of sense. Seiryuu's behavior, those tears, all of it. Genbu looked between her and her cousin with that dawning realization naked on her face, all wide eyes and half parted lips. "You saw what?" Genbu hadn't been looking back after the ship had fallen. She'd been too focused on trying to get Seiryuu out of there and clearly she'd missed something important.

She slouched against the catacomb wall as she watched the two of them, worrying her lower lip between her teeth, and as she did so something shifted. There was the sound of rock grinding against rock, the scrap of wood from above, and as Genbu looked up she saw the long, dark side of an ancient coffin sliding off it's shelf.

Then she didn't see anything at all.

Eurydike

It was a big reaction, more than he'd honestly expected. To be fair, he didn't really know what his death (that was awkward to say) would've looked like from an outside perspective, but Harley was a pretty recent addition to his life.

Though he guessed, what would he have done if it'd been her? That's different. She's different. You're you. That didn't change the fact that he'd been enough for her to cry over, and maybe it was a little selfish or something, but... he was honestly kind of touched, and he was suddenly very, very glad he hadn't just given up and laid there in the ground. If she was like this now, how bad would it have been if he hadn't come right back?

At first, he rocked with her shaking him, more dirt falling out of places dirt had no right being, and then he put a hand over her's, trying to stop her as he moved to look her in the eyes. "You're right, you ain't crazy. This place is." He tried to think of the least upsetting way to say it, but, "I totally got crushed, an' then I woke up in the ********' ground, an' then - some other s**t, " because if he could avoid mentioning the porcupine thing he was absolutely going to, "but the point bein', magic's ********' weird as ********, an' I ain't dead or a zombie, so it's okay - I'm okay, " objectively speaking, anyway.

Then, there was a grind of rock, and Eurydike looked up just in time to see the younger senshi get slammed into the ground by a huge ******** slab of a coffin. With a heavy string of curses, he flew over to try and pry the rock up and over, but -

Seiryuu, Senshi of the East
Inventory: 1 Attack Potion - 50HP Damage
HP: 15/20
Dice: 1d8

She was feeling up her cousin, decidedly real and not some illusion through grief and sighed. What the ******** was what the ******** and she wasn't sure she liked this. Maybe she mistook that he died? Maybe the blood and cloth under the ship had been a mistake but.....even then he didn't have injuries.

"Why are you so dirty-" There was another sound, coming from where she left Genbu who she needed to immediately apologize too, since Genbu hadn't seen him die and didn't know, but now he was alive. She wiped tears away, turning to look and screamed as the coffin fell on her leader and more importantly, sort of girlfriend.

Blood spread out from the coffin that had crushed Genbu and she fell to the ground, trying to lift the thing as if it would save her leader. "Eurydike, EURYDIKE PLEASE." She couldn't, She couldn't deny that Genbu was INJURED. If not DEAD.

This wasn't she saw something, this was fact. She kept screaming at Eury but the coffin was too heavy to lift. Ash she moved along the wall, trying to find anything to lift the damn coffin, she knocked an urn off that sent dust flying all over her, coating her in....in whatever was the urn.

"Oh god oh god, what the ******** is this place?!?"

HP: 20/20

Her landing this time wasn't anymore graceful than the last, but at the very least she managed to keep herself from smacking her face on the stone shelf she caught herself on. Then jumped back and away because she really didn't want a repeat of last time. There hadn't been time for it to hurt, that she could recall, but the sight of that coffin dropping down on her was going to stick with her for a while.

She'd popped up behind her teammate and her cousin and got witness Seiryuu desperately trying to move the coffin with Eurydike's help and a spreading pool of blood on the stone floor. It made her grimace, baby blues flicking up and away because she really didn't need to see that, and then she was hurrying forward to reassure her friend that she was alright.

"Seiry!" Tanned hands caught her by the arm and pulled her back and away from the broken earn at her feet. "It's okay, I'm okay." She let go of her arm so she could catch her cheeks. Making sure those pretty blue eyes saw her whole and unharmed. "I'm sorry. You shouldn't have had to see that, but I'm alright. I promise."

Eurydike

He was about half-convinced he'd failed spectacularly yet again and dragged his ******** cousin right down with him when, bam, there it was - her voice, and yes, there she was, fine and whole and in one piece, just like he'd been after ******** Boat Gate 2019. "Fuuuuck, " he hissed out, sagging a little and just taking a long, deep breath before straightening out, abandoning the door entirely to reach out and squeeze Seiryuu's shoulder reassuringly. (Frankly, if it'd been just the two of them, he would've hugged her, but - he kind of got the feeling he was impeding on a moment as it was.) He had the urge to do the same for Genbu too, honestly, but he didn't feel like they were really close enough yet, probably - right?

"You wind up in a hole too?" he ventured to ask, because if she did - it'd take some of the stress of if anything else... unfortunate happened, right?

Mauvian Tiberius

Swirling magic dumped the Mauvian pair in yet another strange sub-dimension, this one a sepulcher filled with aging bones and grave-dust. Tiberius gently set Obscura back onto her own four paws and gave her much damper ruff another lick to smooth the ruffled fur back into place. He'd mussed it, it was only polite to set things right after all, even if they were now in the sort of space where each rasp of his keratinized tongue through her fur echoed in a rather unsettling manner.

Again their disembodied 'friend' spoke, giving instruction. "Well, since we're here...might as well be grave robbers..." Tiberius squinted around them, spotting a lantern they could use during the trial, then looked back at Obscura. He was delighted to see that her crying jag was over, "Hey! There's some good news at least. No more magic tear gas." His tail plumed behind him in a slow wag, like a happy banner as he did a flip and produced a single semi-broken roller-skate and some duct-tape from subspace. With these items the Mauvians could simply push - or pull - the lantern along as they searched: it would be much, much easier than trying to carry it in their jaws.

"Perfect." The pair set off - Tiberius didn't have them dig through every mouldering bower, there was no need, they could just smell if there happened to be anything worth pilfering. A rusty knife. A ring of some unidentifiable metal - unidentifiable only because it was so filthy.

And then, amongst the creepy skeletons, spiders, and centipedes, Tiberius' lantern flickered. His ears swept back in displeasure as it flickered repeatedly before going out. "That's annoying." Contrary to popular belief, cats couldn't see in the dark, they only had enhanced vision in low light; without any illumination, both Mauvians were blinded as much as anyone. Something touched the guard hairs on the back of Tiberius' neck and he bit back a hiss, not wanting to scare the kitten.

When the light bloomed back into existence, he growled softly. One of those dog-rotting skeletons was definitely looking at him. "I will piss in your eye socket, bonebreath." He muttered, moving delicately between Obscura and the pile of bones. "Nothing useful here, let's move on."

[ Obscura is Entering ]

While the trip was never a very pleasant one, once they landed in the dusty hallway of tombs her eyes finally cleared up. A wave of relief washed over her as she was finally able to control her breathing again and Tiberius cleaned her up from dragging her all over the place. Even if the sound did echo ominously through the large halls. She purred softly, only to hear that sound carry off as well.

They were given instructions on how to proceed from here. That voice again. If she ever met the person behind that voice, of the things she would do to them. "Yes, thankfully. Sorry for all that. It was terribly embarrassing." She was far from being a cry baby, so it had sucked to let anyone see her like that. It was lessened by the fact it was another Mauvian and not one of the twins. Never, ever, would she tell them it had happened. She needed to be strong for them.

She spotted the lanterns as well, but had no idea how they'd go about fashionably carrying one along on their journey. Tiberius was quick to action, as usual, and Obie was thankful once again to be picking up several tricks from her colorful friend. "I feel like I should be taking notes." While they were stuck in a precarious situation, at least she was learning quite a bit from her new pal.

Just like that, off they went. Most of the bones were just that, bones. However, a few things had survived in here. Some things she thought Lori or Landry might find interesting were stored for later. She was having more fun here then she had had in the first bottle though. There were things to climb and places to jump around. Though, rifling through the bones did send echos off into the distance.

When the light first flickered, she didn't think much of it. There had to be exits somewhere, right? Surely, a little draft had just passed by their way. When the light went out completely though, even Obie gave a little gasp. It was so incredibly dark down here. She could just sense that Tiberius was on edge beside her, but a moment late the light came back on and he muttered some...very clever words. She felt like she was seeing a whole new side to her companion.

"You show that pile of bones who's boss." Of course, she had no idea that something had actually touched him. She figured he was acting tough for her sake. Though, they did move on quickly afterwards.

It occurred to her as they were moving along that the golden bone they were looking for might not just be lying around on the ground. It could easily be hidden in one of the many coffins that lined the walls. Presumably the more important people had coffins right? Wouldn't it make sense that they would be hiding their golden bone? And encased in all that stone or wood, it would be harder for them to sniff out.

"We should maybe check the coffins as well?" There was a pile of bones next to one that made it easier for her to climb up. Somehow she managed to push the lid enough to open her up, only to be greeted with ash and dust in her face. She rolled down the pile of bones and coughed to get the person out of her mouth, sneezing to get it out of the nose. Oh no, did she swallow some of it? She felt like she was going to be sick at the thought. More importantly, she did actually feel pretty crappy after that. So she summoned the health potion from before and downed the whole bottle.

"Never doing that again..."

Mauvian Tiberius HP: 15/20

Obscura listened to what Tiberius had to say - and paid attention to the tricks he had to teach - so much more than any of the senshi under his care ever had. It was really nice and extremely gratifying, to be honest.

He supposed that it would have been a little easier on them both if he'd gone ahead and utilized his humanoid form for this trial, considering the amount of heavy objects that they were encountering...but the bonuses for having and using that particular form weren't quite worth it to his mind. Sure, it could be a boon..but generally? Just a pain. Except for hands.

Bless having hands.

The kitten climbed one of the coffins after making a good suggestion to search them too - Tiberius had been trying to avoid them, mostly because coffins often meant embalming, which meant less 'clean' corpses and more 'wet' rotty corpses - but he couldn't argue with Obscura's logic when it was so sound. "Good idea, kiddo. Just be careful, those things are probably full of booby tra--"

And there it was. A trap. Tiberius bounded over to the coughing kitten and chittered angrily at the offending coffin. "Good thing we have those potions." Taking a moment as Obscura recovered, the larger Mauvian groomed his small charge, clearing the dust from her dark, silky fur; when she was deemed suitable they would continue on. Three large stone tombs called to Tiberius, two of the lids were already ajar which made determining the worthlessness of their crumbling contents easy enough, but the third required some finesse - and physics - in order to pry open.

Unfortunately it dropped and pinched part of his tail in the most painful way, causing Tiberius to yowl and hiss at the heavy stoneware object for all he was worth until he managed to scrabble it off his poor, abused tail. "Ow, ow ow ow-- damn stupid stone trashcan!" He licked gingerly at his tail, puffing up and holding perfectly still at the surge of pain that told him two things: ow and also nothing was broken, thankfully. After a few minutes hunkered over with his elbows sticking up like sharp, fluffy peaks above his head and his tail wrapped around so it was tucked under his chin, the mackerel tabby Mauvian was finally ready to continue on.

"Okay. That sucked. Better luck to both of us next time."

Pendour, Page of Neptune: ENTERING
HP: 15

She was getting slightly more used to getting tossed around to different realms. It still wasn’t comfortable, exactly, but she landed in the catacombs fairly steadily and took a look around. Bones. Bones and the smell of old rot. It wasn’t quite a welcome sight, but she didn’t flinch or turn back, either.

With the goings on at her wonder, she had spent the last few months learning not to fear the dead. She was meant to find a bone. Okay. She could try that. She inhaled once and tugged her gloves tighter on her arms. She stepped forward.

She toppled. There were old slippery stairs, and she fell down and down. She reached out to catch herself. It only ended with her getting off balance more and sliding down the last few stairs on her belly like a graceless penguin before landing at the bottom in a tangle of limbs and bruises. There was another layer of dust on her dress now, on top of the plain dirt from the grave. She coughed.
