We. Eurydike quietly savored that she said that. Like the two of them were a team or something. It didn’t fix anything, really, but... it felt better, somehow. “I... yeah.” He’d tried so hard not to think about it. But the image of her was burned into his mind, lurking his nightmares. “Human shaped, but limbs too long. They’re all covered in this... “ He didn’t have the word. “Hard stuff. Her hair’s gray, eyes... “ He hesistated. He couldn’t really describe her eyes. The words just weren’t there. “Wearin’ bits of a hospital gown, skin all ashy gray. An’ there’s smoke everywhere, just pourin’ outta her, like...”

He took a second, taking a long, deep breath to steady himself. He hadn’t done much talking about her. “She was at this med center, negaverse operation gone to s**t. Think a general killed the guy in charge, my mom’s doc. Also a general. It was messy an’ chaotic an’ ... I was kinda outta it for the whole thing, gotta be honest, “ and he tapped his temple over the missing eye with a grimace. “Somebody’s gotta know somethin’ I bet.”

All that though...

A low laugh left him, suddenly. Which probably seemed like a weird reaction to that, but - “I mean. Yeah. I guess - yeah. You’d think hearin’ that would help, “ he said, his gaze dropping. It wasn’t like she was wrong; he couldn’t be a babysitter. It probably would’ve happened whether he was there or not. But - “Is it better to be guilty, or powerless?” He asked the question. He didn’t expect an answer to it. He felt stupid for even asking it.

Caught there somewhere in the riptide between the two... he was just so ******** tired, even as he laughed again.

Once again...she couldn't even begin to fathom what Eurydike must be feeling...especially as he described the creature he saw. It sounded grotesque. That wasn't something she'd say out loud to the man, but after getting the description, she nodded. "Alright. Thank you. I'll inquire where I can to see if I can get any leads." With some of the connections she still did have, hopefully. She felt she'd need to tread a little carefully around Negaspace, especially after that altercation with Zircon, but even if she could find a little bit to help...

But, here was a feeling the man was presenting, that she could relate with. That she did feel, and understood. Shuffling both items to one arm, Still reached out with her free hand to take one of Eurydike's, and she held it as she looked at him. "It's okay to feel both of those things." She said, "But it's better to not be either of those things. I think it's better to be---hopeful." Still said. "Hopeful that you can be there when needed, that you try. Hopeful that what are you can just be enough when it matters. Hopeful that...tomorrow will be better than today." She said this from the heart. They were things she was feeling right now. Things she wanted to believe in.

"As much as there's been bad...hasn't there been good, too?" She asked. "Your husband---he didn't stay with he Negaverse. He made the change over to be at your side. You could have died at Zircon's hands but---you're alive. Yes, you're one eye short, but you still have the rest of your limbs. If Zircon gets that prosthetic knocked out, she's down, Eurydike. You're not."

She squeezed his hand briefly.

"So let me say I'm sorry, Eurydike." She told the senshi. "For what this---" Her foolishness, her corruption, her appearance "Has done to you."

His smile was sincere, if tight around the edges. It was hard to be relieved, exactly, but he was grateful nonetheless. "Thanks, Still. Really. I really appreciate that you've been... what you've been doin', 'cause you really don't have to." With Zircon and with this, now...

Eurydike had typically shied away from Still when he got emotional, but he didn't bother ducking away this time when she took his hand. He just tried to listen, tried to take in what she was saying, tried to - it was hard not to get a little choked up.

"She left me alive on purpose, " he corrected, his voice gruff with that emotion, and he kind of laughed in that humorless way as he squeezed her hand, lightly swaying it back and forth. Honestly, now that he had it, even knowing he had to, he didn't want to let it go. He didn't want her to go back there. He wanted her home, safe, happy for Christmas.

He wanted to hope. He wanted so bad to hope. He was just so... tired. Tired and tired of hoping and hoping with the bare minimum payoff. Eurydike wouldn't say that, though. So instead, he tried to smile, even if his remaining eye was bright with tears. "I want that, y'know? I do, an' I try, an' - you don't gotta apologize to me for that, dummy. Or anythin'. You got nothin' to be sorry for."

"It's the least I can do." She replied to him with a small smile. "I'm doing it because I want to."

Still shook her head a bit. "But---she could have killed you." It was just fact. If she had been able to get him into a position to take out his eye, she could have killed him many times over. "I can grasp it, Eurydike but at the end...will you ever really stop trying?" A brow quirked as she looked at him. "I think the answer is no. I don't think I'd ever stop either, even with all the heart ache." After a moment, she couldn't help but laugh.

"Who is the real dummy? You take blame that's not your's, and you won't place it where it needs to be." It was a tease, but still a genuine sentiment. "I do have to be sorry, and I am, Eurydike...I...I've hurt a lot of people by being purposefully ignorant. People who care about me and I can't even remember them."

What Still was saying, it was all right - and it was all encouraging - she was saying all these things that were striking a chord in him, that should have lifted him up and helped him begin to slough the weight off his shoulders. Yes, she was right, and he knew she was. He could have died, if not at Zircon’s hands, than after - or sitting there in the hospital - or any time that followed, or that came before, but he hadn’t. And as feeble as he felt like his efforts were, no, he hadn’t stopped yet.

He smiled, wearily, knowing that was the right response, but his eye still burned. “Fine. You win. I guess you’re right.” And he laughed, too.

It was moments like that Eurydike felt sure there was something intrinsically broken in him. Yes, she was right. Yes, he should’ve felt better. He wanted to, holding fast to those words like they could pull him above water. But the misery clung to him like a weighted ******** blanket, suffocating him still, refusing to yield, whispering more shitty things in his ear about how he didn’t even deserve her reassurance.

He was tired of it - so ******** tired.

Then, though, with the focus on Still’s blame (or lack thereof), that was something different. His smile quirked at the side, and he knew it was ******** awkward or whatever, but he didn’t really care. She could worry about juggling all the s**t; he just went ahead and tugged at her hand as he both coaxed her closer and stepped in himself, wrapping his arms around her in a big bear hug.

“Everybody hurts somebody, y’know - every day, every second - that’s just life. It’s what you do after that counts.”

Ironic as ******** coming from him, and probably corny as s**t, but whatever.

Silly man. It wasn't about winning or being right. It was about what was right in the situation.

A brow quirked as the senshi suddenly tugged on her hand and pulled her closer. The next thing she knew she was being wrapped in his arms, and she blinked in surprise. The corrupt eyed the belongings she held, making sure they weren't in danger of falling, and just kind of hung there in the shorter senshi's embrace for a moment. She couldn't put her finger on it, but it touched something deep in her. Something she couldn't fathom or begin to comprehend. That, combined with this words well...it was very touching.

After a moment she reached up with her free arm to wrap it back around him, hand splaying flat against his back.

"...It's very wise words you're speaking there." She said. "I hope you take those to heart, too, if you're telling them to me."
