Rory was quiet when her boyfriend made the admission. She didn't know what to say that wouldn't feel cheap or corny but her hand slid across his shoulder. Or, it tried to but he was standing up and kissing her cheek and Rory still didn't say anything.
Instead she reached for his hand, lacing her fingers with his and kissing the back of his hand.
To his question, she nodded, agreeing that it was definitely time for the movie but she didn't lead him to the couch, or really move at all.
It took a minute but finally she spoke up. "You're my family Akio." She had her dad and her cats and Otto but she also had Akio. He was important to her. "Next year, we'll figure out how to get to visit your family so I can meet them."

He watched her kiss his hand and Akio's gaze softened, fingers curling around hers. They sat quietly together for a moment before she broke the silence, her words making his heart both ache and flutter.
Eyes closed and he smiled, squeezing her hand before raising it to his mouth and mimicking her kiss.
"I'd like that a lot, baby." And he was sincere about it. The most important person in the world to him meeting the family he'd missed, hundreds of miles away -- it was an idle thought he'd vocalized only a time or two, concerned that she would feel anxious with the idea, especially when it came to paying for such a trip.
But there it was - she made the suggestion herself and imagining the two worlds meeting had his smile growing wider as he stood up from his chair as his other hand moved down to collect his sweet, perfect girlfriend.
"Love you, beautiful."

Akio calling her baby never failed to set her heart aflutter. Her cheeks flushed when he kissed her hand and when he moved to collect her, Rory leaned into him.
"I love you too, handsome," she mumbled, loosening a hand so she could reach for his neck, finger tips pressing against the nape to tug him down to her level for a kiss. Afterwards, she pressed her forehead against his and just stayed there.
Everything was weirdly sombering but also relaxing when she allowed herself to just take comfort in his presence and knowing that Akio loved her.
Finally she drew away. "C'mon, it's movie time," she said in her soft sort of way.

Resting against her was peaceful, serene. It didn't matter if they sat like that for hours or mere moments, Akio could easily find himself lost in the simple touch of the young woman he'd go to the ends of the world for.
She was the one to draw away first, snapping him out of his momentary haze. Dark eyes followed as she tugged him towards the couch, the couple soon abandoning the remains of their meal as they made their way into the adjacent room, the television set dark and ready to be switched on.
"Right, movie time."
His hand squeezed hers gently as the older boy caught up to her, soon scooping up his girlfriend before settling them both down directly in the middle of his comfy couch. A quick flip of the remote and Netflix sprung to life - a kiss or two later and they were snuggled in, ready to find some sort of holiday-themed movie --- or whateverween town she'd mentioned before.
His family might have been miles and miles away but his heart was nestled securely and safely in his arms... and that was the most important thing to him.
