There was a faint of hint of something starting to form in his palm, much to Carminite's delight. As the orb slowly formed it was getting easier and easier to keep the cat pinned down, so he paid less attention to Arthur as the crystal slowly formed.
Which was a mistake. He didn't see the glow until it was too late. There was a beam of light and the next thing he knew he was flat on his back a few feet from where he'd been standing, too dazed and in too much pain to do anything besides groan where he lay.
"Aw, c'mon..." he muttered, eyes scrunched closed as he tried to process what in the hell just happened.

He staggered. Doing a beam usually made him drained, but being drained of energy before the beam left him groggy while lamp lights shown achingly bright.
"I....I can't let you do that." he managed, moving his way into a hedge of bushes and crawling inside.
"...........please stop."

He could really only watch the cat move away to relative safety as he lay there, slowly recovering from the beam attack. He was a little too numb to move, and knowing he hard work the next day...he didn't push things. He already had a little crystal to show for his trouble so it was no real loss for him, as far as he could tell, if Arthur did get away.
"Can't let me do what? My job?" he muttered, head falling sideways to give him a good view of Arthur's retreating figure.
