"Bless," Marnie replied, plucking the cup and taking a sip, uncaring that it might've been too hot to drink right away. It had whipped cream, which kept it from scalding her tongue after the toasting, and her lipstick left a pretty stain over the lid. "If you'd just let me do your make up sometime, dress you up, you too could be as bold as I."

Marnie considered herself a fashion icon in the making and she could help her friends get on her level, if they were willing to shell out the cash and let her dress them.

Hair was tossed over her shoulder when she turned on her heels, looking up and down at Nolan. Lips pursed and she looked at Maggie like this can't be him right? But she was quickly pulled closer and realized that the other latte was for the boy.

Ah, he was a tag-a-long. Cool, cool.

"Whoa, whoa." Marnie wasn't very quiet, or subtle when she leaned forward, squinting and scrutinizing. "I mean...C'mon Mags, he's got the height thing going on but didn't anyone tell him that wearing white after labor day was like a big fashion don't?"

"That's ok. I want to surprise my family with them." And get them all into the season and it's traditions, including but not limited to pumpkin carving. She wanted to try as many things she could for this holiday, and it's many traditions. She was figuring her and the rest of her family should look into costumes soon - really soon. If they wanted to get anything good at least, unless they pieced something together...like real clothing.

"I would bring them but I'd have to let my cousin, and his husband, know and since I want to surprise them all." Unless she brought everyone here without telling them. "Perhaps I will do both. Bring some home and bring them here - this is lasting for more than just today right?" If they enjoyed it at home than she would bring them to carve some more and perhaps pick out some things as well. It would be a lovely idea really. The more she could introduce them, and herself, to fall and what it meant.

It wasn't like she hadn't lived here a few years now, she had, but they hadn't followed the fall holidays too much. They'd tried making Thanksgiving dinner and given candies to kids at their apartment door but not too much else. This year she wanted it to all be different. There was a reason this year, at least she thought so.

"The more we can do with the fall I think the better."

Giulia

She had heard about the Harvest Festival from one of the other students in class, and it had not taken long for little Miss Giulia Montgomery to get terribly excited about everything that she heard. Apple bobbing, and pumpkin carving, and garland-making, and caramel apples and Pumpkin Spice, and- she felt like she had been waiting for this moment her whole life. She felt like... this was going to be beautiful. And she had to go.

Naturally, her first action was to get Hope on her side. The toddler didn't understand much, but she understood enthusiasm, and Giulia was a good saleswoman of enthusiasm. By the time that Jada came upon her half-sister coaching her daughter on how they were going to approach their demand request to go to the festival, it was too late for anyone to say no and still have a peaceful household. And lord knew with three people under the age of 10 that she was responsible for, Jada needed a peaceful household.

Their victory was going to taste like apple cider. Giulia was ready. She had pulled on a pair of leggings, the soft and browny kind, decorated with leaves that were all kinds of autumny golds and reds and oranges. And her shirt was a bright red and gold oversized sweater, which was a little bit hotter than she might have liked, but she would suffer in silence for now. Her brown boots were warm and slightly fuzzy, climbing up her stick-thin little legs to the knee.

She had even done something with her straw-yellow hair, braiding it back with Jada's help, and tangling multi-colored ribbon through it, and using a little tie with a leaf attached to it. Giulia had even helped pick out Hope's little outfit, and squish her tight curls into a braid. It was their first Harvest Festival, after all. Everything needed to go just right. It needed to be the perfect amount of fun.

From the looks of it, as she spun around the area, considering the hay bales, and the outside of the former church, and the fact- was that a caramel fountain???- that everything looked delicious and fantastic and aweeeesoooome??? Yeah, this was going to be the best. Event. Eveeer! She grabbed at her niece's tiny hand, and led her away from Jada, heading straight for the candy bar. All you can eat chocolates and candies? And all she had to do was buy the bag?

Giulia was going to eat so much she turned into a candy, and then go get some apples from the apple bar, and then roll her way through the hay bale maze, all with Hope in tow. Her plans were grand, and she only hoped that she wouldn't lose too much steam when she was lost in the maze- OH! FACE PAINTING! She paused, eyes whirling as she tried to re-orient her plans. Face painting, but apple bobbing, but FOOD, and- if she lost the face paint doing apple bobbing, and... but she wanted to eat before she did the apple bobbing, but she wanted her face painted to eat! Giulia dropped Hope's hand, pressing her own palms to her cheeks. Why did it have to be this way?

If anyone had made that particular critique to Thomas, it was very unlikely that he’d have done anything but what he currently was, aka, wearing white whenever he wanted, because it looked damn good with his hair.
Hard to clash with white to be fair, but he preferred it all the same.

Then again, anyone with that many piercings in their ears alone probably didn’t ascribe to the standard views on fashion.

He paused to take in the scents of the hand made soaps, pleased and casual, though he was eying the cider bar mostly casually. Whatever he could do for a little sinful indulgence sounded just about perfect. He set the soaps aside for now, he could come back for the soap, but the cider? Oh that sounded far too good to pass up.

He fished out his ID, just in case and kept it in hand as he approached to see what could be sampled.

Pythia

The redhead peered judgmentally around the Harvest Festival, taking in the sights from the perspective of someone who was here doing exactly what she wasn't here to do- enjoying themselves. The Harvest Festival, a professor had declared, was the perfect event to take a look at from an organizational perspective- what had they done, how did she think they had done it, what was the consumer response? Her future career was in political science- social media, public relations, marketing, her degree could take her in a wide variety of public-facing areas. So it only made sense that she would want to come and engage in a little frivolity while preparing to write a paper on the public perception of the event.

Her teacher clearly hated her, or at least wanted their students to be interested in the local hive of scum and villainy that seemed to infest the Destiny City nightlife, and Pythia was basically over them interfering in her social life for a grade. She ran her hand through her loose hair, gathering it over her fingers and huffing out a small sigh- at least, from a determined-to-be-grumpy perspective, it looked like she was going to have quite a difficult time. Her eyes lit on the candy bar, and the caramel apple bar, and the... mmmm, cider.

It wouldn't be so bad, if the decision had been hers to make, and not thrust upon her for a grade. This kind of thing was quite up her alley, in fact. She liked meeting new people, and certainly liked autumn. And a little festival never went amiss. Someone had clearly worked hard to set it up, and apparently done quite well. Everything, so far, seemed from the outside to be running smoothly. A hazard-free event. And wasn't that almost a rarity?

Her eyes flicked to the pumpkin carving station, and something settled on her lips- a hard, amused smile. She hadn't carved a pumpkin before, at almost 22. How ridiculous was that? There was a bakery stall, and a frappucreamo that... well. Could anyone go wrong with pumpkin spice, she wondered like a basic white girl. But to hell with bending over a bucket to try and get an apple in her mouth- that wasn't going to be hygenic, and unless she developed the ability to unhinge her jaw, there was no way she'd get an apple out without also taking a mouthful of someone else's backwash. Not her first choice on 'how to catch some weird disease.'

After consideration, she decided to start her little adventure with the Frappucreamo. The flesh, after all, was weak- and the stomach even weaker, when pumpkin spice was on offer. She waited almost-patiently for hers, and lifted it with a sigh, delighted. Now... the organizer of this little event was probably around here somewhere. Tugging her pen and a small notebook from her purse, Pythia began taking notes, balancing her cup haphazardly over her paper as she moved through the crowds of people. What not to mention- the fact she'd started with the creamo because of pumpkin spice- she'd make sure to point out the fact it was an event clearly requiring her to be caffeinated.

The idea of Marnie making Maggie over was intriguing, but Maggie liked to have a little more control over the final look. She didn't know if it would go well if she tried to call many shots. Marnie had vision too, after all. "Maybe," she said, thinking on it. "It could be fun for one night of Halloween. Let you pick whatever I wear, go nuts." Maggie tended to celebrate Halloween for all the weeks of October and at least the first of November too. It was a loose commitment, but one she'd follow through on if the other girl was up for it.

It was all quickly steered toward the reason for their presence here, other than the PSL and general fall merriment: one Thomas Hunt. "He's just the bold type, you know, I mean -- look at that hair. That is confidence. He bucks the norm. It's so chic. He probably goes by Tom but spells it Thom with an H and everything." Plus, he was more than five years older than her. Wiser. Mature. The kind of person Maggie obviously needed to be with because she was so mature. "I don't need another silly high school boy in the same jeans and shirt as every other high school boy." Maggie regarded Nolan. "No offense, Nole, to your high school boy brethren. You are obviously a cut above." Otherwise Maggie wouldn't hang out with him, duh.

"So, plan of attack! Hang back for a bit, looking casual and awesome, see what booth he goes to and BAM. Go there too. Proximity, you know, is the main cause of two people becoming interested in one another -- he's on the move!" Maggie, though, wasn't. She was apparently waiting for a cosign from her compatriots.

Nolan had thanked Maggie and had taken her advice and drank from the latte. It was perfect, or at least the perfect drink to start the Fall season. He had been quietly sipping it as the girls talked for a bit, taking a look around to see if there was anywhere in particular that he wanted to go to or look at. He had zoned out a bit but when he finally came back to the conversation, he realized that Maggie was looking at something, or someone...

Plan of attack? Oh no... He thought. He grimaced a bit. "Don't tell me... we're going to follow this guy?" He looked at her and at Marnie. He would have said "stalk" but he hoped that Maggie wasn't quite at that level of obsession yet. He groaned. "You know, you could always just go up and talk to him?" Though he doubted that advice would be taken. It seemed that Maggie had a plan that wasn't going to be deterred by something like logic.

Sighing he said, "Fine. But you're going to pay for another latte then." If he was going to follow someone, then he wanted compensation!

"It's going on all weekend," Rhona nodded with a wide smile. "If you want to come back tomorrow, we'd be more than happy to have you." Rhona then swept an arm out, leading thr way to the back by way of carefully laid cobblestone steps lined intermittently with hay bales, bright, fall-colored flowers, and pumpkins both carved and not.

"Marcus," Rhona called to the shaggy-haired high school boy manning the carving station, "This woman is going to be purchasing a pumpkin from us, but then taking it home. And if she comes by tomorrow, give her and her brood half priced gourds, alright?" The boy grinned and flashed a bright grin and game a pumpkin-gut covered thumbs up.

"So, do you need help picking them out? I can also get us something to help get the pumpkins to your car or whatever if you need.

Heather Beauchamp, a mousey girl of merely fourteen years of age, was the one assigned to man the face painting station. She had gotten some lessons from Rhona's (really freaking pretty and youtube famous) girlfriend, but she was still unsure. Lavender had brought by what seemed like hundrens of jars of cosmetic paints and Heather just stared at them with her mouth slightly open even now.

So far, though, it had been so good. She had painted butterfly wings on the sides of kids' faces, made others into jack-o-lanterns, and even turned a few into super heros. And then there had been Lavender's specialties that she'd taught Heather, like a batty forehead scene, a simple sugar skull, and a few decals like cute pumpkins, bats, and spiders on webs.
Her favorite design, however, was a set of halloween freckles. No had burned down her tent yet. So that was good. Right?

Heather looked up as a child, maybe as old as her own brother, caught sight of her set up and looked utterly, amazingly, spectacularly excited. Heather smiled back and waved both at her and the toddler she had in toe.

"Hey," she called warmly, "welcome to the Farmer's Daughter Harvest Festival!"

When Thomas flashed his ID, an older woman of around forty smiled and passed him a clear glass inscribed with the shop's name. Before him were decanters of all shapes with hand lettered signs describing the variations of spiking. One was cinnamon cider, flavored with fireball, and another had been mingled with Grand Marnier for a slightly citrus tinge. Others were spiked with rum punch, dark whiskey, and even caramel vodka. The possibilities, it had seemed, here endless.

Lavender was late, and she knew she was late, but…hey, some things couldn’t be rushed. For once, she was getting back into makeup and had done an amazing job on her face if she said so herself, a beautiful half sugar skull mask that looked the perfect mix of elegant and creepy.

Though, perfection meant tardiness on this occasion and when she finally reached the Farmers Daughter she made her way to where the festival was going on and her eyes raked the small crowd and finally found the mass of curls that was Rhona.

Quietly she walked over, pausing for a moment to fluff Heather’s soft pink hair and then making a B-line to Rhona, wrapping her arms around the girl’s waist.

“I’m sorry I’m late, love. I got so distracted with my makeup…I wanted to show off a little for you.” She pulled away, grinning and showing off her face, hoping for a good reaction.

Her eyes raked the crowd and she nodded happily. “Pretty good turnout, Rho! You must be pleased!”

"Done and done boo-boo," Marnie replied, making a kissing motion with her lips before she was back to sipping her beverage and squinting at the boy who was Maggie's latest conquest.

"Ooooh, he's old enough to drink, scandalous." It didn't matter that sometimes Marnie drank cider in the comfort of her apartment because her mom basically gave her whatever she wanted, she wasn't old enough to drink, legally, but this boy was, which really wasn't surprising but she wanted to pretend like it was.

Nolan spoke up and Marnie gave him her full attention, latte half lifted so that she could enjoy that sweet, sweet PSL as she did so. "Look, Nolie," Marnie started, deciding that was an okay nickname because nicknames were the best, "we gotta get some recon on white-hot-hottie before Mag-a-rie over her does any sort of talking."

He was being reasonable and giving them ideas that were really, probably best, but they weren't as fun. She moved to sling an arm around his shoulder. "C'mon, it's an aaadventure."

Just as Lavender brushed up against Rhona, something shifted in the carving tent. Had Lavender knocked over a pumpkin? Had Rhona? Had someone else? At first, it was too small of a movement to be noticed, one eye and then the other blinked open and for a moment it looked as though someone had simply abandoned a pumpkin half carved. It wasn't until the mouth split open with a loud CRACK that it was evident that something was wrong. The first thing the rogue youma did was let out a howl so ear-splittingly loud, those in immediate are had to double over as though they could avoid the sound. Next it spat one large, wet, gloppy wad of guts right at Rhona Lee's head, where it hit with a sickening splat. Finally, it laughed and set bounced away, spitting pumpkin guts at anyone nearby.

Quote:
Looks like a rogue youma is crashing the party! The good news is that he's nice and weak, so there's no need to power up, not to mention there no where to do so. Just squash the little monster in any way you see fit and he's dusted! To catch him, roll a ten-sided dice. The person to roll the same number rolled here dusts the youma! This post will be up for 24 hours, and if no one has rolled the same number, then the youma will simply leave, presumably back to the negaverse. You may roll once every hour.

Maggie was staring in a way that she thought was casually cool in Thomas's direction, hoping to catch his eye, but turned her eyes puppy-dog when she faced Nolan. "It's an adveeeeeenture!" Maggie echoed, taking Nolan's other arm. "Definitely another latte. And okay, I promise I will owe you, like, four trips to whatever Renn Faire you choose as payback. Kay? Kay." She had answered her own question, but better that than have him peace out of the situation. Nolan was a new friend and she wasn't sure how entertained he would be by the idea of stalking someone, okay. And three was a much better number! That way, when Maggie and Thomas instantly fell in love and started their first date in the middle of the festival, Nolan and Marnie could still hang. No one would be alone. It was foolproof, right? Right.

"Think he'd buy me a drink?" she said, with an eyebrow waggle. Maggie was too young to drink and really wasn't too interested in it. She got high on LIFE, okay? But the idea of someone buying her a drink romantically felt so adult and grown up and awesome that the teen thirsted for it.

However, none of it was to be so. There was a hub-bub at the pumpkin carving station. Maggie turned and said, "What, did someone hurt themsel---OHGOD!" The pumpkin sprang to life in a distinctly magical way, which had the secret senshi glancing about for any place to hide. Unfortunately, everything was out in the open or seemed locked. But there were civilians here. Didn't she have a duty?

"Creepy DC weirdness incoming!" she said. Somehow, she had the wherewithall to set her PSL down gently on the ground before unceremoniously grabbing the nearby scare crow and tugging free one of the wooden rods giving shape to his shoulders. Hay sprang out, but now she was at least armed!

Now it was good they had three. This was some Charlie's Angels magic. Giving a nod at her friends, she said, "I can stop it!" and chased after the puking thing. Unfortunately, it managed to vom out some slippery pumpkin slop, and Maggie went skidding by, pole still held aloft but ultimately futile.

Well, that could have gone better.

Giulia

The sound of a voice calling a greeting out got Giulia's full attention, and at last, the young girl knew where she would be going first. She broke into a trot, waving back to the older girl, Hope tagging along after her. "Thank you," she replied to the girl greeting her, "this is a real nice festival! It looks like everyone worked real hard. I'm Giulia, and this is Hope." she peered at the display, the examples, and asked, "Can you paint our faces?"

"Farfalla." Hope pointed at the butterfly, and burst into her pidgin of languages, and Giulia's brow furrowed, listening to the half-words and trying to piece the hasty words together. Something about wanting a butterfly, but then there was a garden? And a maze, and something pink. Not very Halloweeny. But Hope was already moving for the chair, clambering up into it and kicking out her legs, big eyes on the older girl.

"She's like a butterfly, please. I don't know what I'd like."

Or at least not at first. Then... Was that a moving pumpkin? Giulia paused, gaping for a minute at the giggling gourd, before her brain caught up to- people were being, like... vomited on, by the pumpkin. So she decided to take a moment out of her day to think about where this had gone wrong, and how she could do anything without raising suspicion.

So she aimed her small body at the pumpkin instead, hoping to catch it as it went by, and...

Critical fail. She was dripping in pumpkin vomit, and at least one person at the face painting booth was staring at her like she had grown a second head.

"I think your pumpkins are infected," Giulia said lamely, "Must have been a ghost?"

Yes, coming back tomorrow was something she would try and accomplish. Tonight though she was going to surprise her family. "I can purchase more than one? To bring home? "She asked softly, not wanting to upset the other who was being so kind to her, letting her purchase a pumpkin to bring home rather than carving it here and now. She would, of course, come back tomorrow with her family! But to let her bring one home was very kind, and the other female didn't need to do such for her.

"Oh! No, no. You don't need to discount us tomorrow! It's fine by me to pay the normal price. I wouldn't ask for a discount." She said waving her hands about before smiling. "It would be nice...the pumpkins here aren't what they have back home to eat...so I'm rather unsure." She answered honestly before looking towards Marcus, hoping for some help from him. "I can get them out to the car, it won't be too hard." It just would mean going one at a time, if she was allowed more than one pumpkin today.

What she wasn't expecting was, while looking over the pumpkins, was one to come alive not too far away. It spat guts onto the female who had helped her, who had been so kind to her, and it took off bouncing and spitting up it's insides. Just how much did it have to spit up? It seemed like a bit too much. But she didn't think too much on that, at least not for long, as she was moving to grab a spade she found laying about. Going for the pumpkin she went to try and stab at it. Only for someone else to have handled it.

Pythia

She was walking carefully, paying more mind to her paper and pen, and the notes she was taking, than to the things going on around her- until the ear-splitting howl jerked her from her note-taking stupor, and a bit of pumpkin landed right. In. Her. Drink. And. Ruined. Her. Notes. Shaking, wide-eyed, Pythia's eyes whirled, looking for the threat.

The next bit of pumpkin hit her in the face, and there was an inhuman cackle- and Pythia pushed stringy guts from her face in time to see a pumpkin bouncing on its merry way away.

Oh, hells to that. She'd lost all her notes, and this thing... This thing was going down. Angered, she stomped after the pumpkin, balling up her ruined notes and chucking it like a projectile.

For her efforts, she got slimed. Again.

And she'd been looking so cute, too.
