⋆ Story/Explanation (Completely Optional): My merperson enjoys swimming close to the surface because they don't tell you THE DEPTHS OF THE OCEAN ARE COLD. WRINKLY FINGERS? WHO CARES,
I HAVE FROSTBITE. But she also like flowers and pretty things, and to get those, being a sea merperson, she has to trade with two-legs. She notices that if she offers a two-legs some grubby coins she finds from time to time, they get very excited and will give her many flowers and even some nice not-skin to wear. Not all the things she finds are grubby coins, though, and she rather does enjoy bright stones and jewellery, so she tends to wear whatever she fancies and trades what she doesn't.

⋆ Story/Explanation (Completely Optional): As established, Em enjoys shiny and pretty things and often comes across them (well, she actively looks for them. Especially near two-legs' and around sunken ships). UNFORTUNATELY today she tried on a very pretty headband- AND IMMEDIATELY HER LOVELY LONG TAIL CHANGED INTO A SEAHORSE TAIL. Nothing against seahorses, they are lovely, but seahorse tails are prehensile for grasping and cannot propel anything under the water anything further than 2.5 cm. Needless to say, Em traded that headband.

⋆ Story/Explanation (Completely Optional): Em is quite good at looking through likely spots and finding treasure, such as ships, and near touristy places where careless people tend to drop shiny things and found that, despite it doing well for her before, she could no longer actually wear all of her finds. So she adopted a big cave. It's full of crystal rather than ice (because she does NOT do well with cold). When she wants company or new flowers she will pack a bag full of whatever she feels like and take it up to the surface.

⋆ Story/Explanation (Completely Optional): "Ah... she... she fell in..."
Occasionally, Em will find magical things. One of those things was a necklace with a wish in it. She was saving it for something she really wanted, but she basically had everything she wanted. Sea friends, enough wealth to keep her in flowers, and also a stimulating career. She was searching her favourite ruins for fun and treasure when she felt some vibrations in the water. Em heard the splash rather than saw it and vacated the ruins in case yet more of them were falling into the water, as happened. When it turned out to be a two-legs, she grabbed them, carried them into a sheltered lagoon and dragged them to the rocks. They were too weak - evidently, they had not fallen into the open sea nearby, but had swum to try and find some way onto land, but all around the sea rocks were too high to crawl out of the water (which is why it was such a treasure trove- no two-legs could go in to salvage anything).
Em used her wish to have legs so she could carry the drowned two-legs to safety. She didn't really want a racing conch anyway.
