Getting Permission
Luka gave a grumbling sound between his teeth as one of his older brothers ruffled his hair, teasingly telling him that he was 'acting so cutely' when it came to his desire to go hunting with him today. There was rumor that a beast from the shark family had been nicking fish and destroying nets, something that had marked it as a nuisance animal, and caused a bounty to pop up on its head. It was a job that was handed over to Luka's family, with one of his older siblings calling 'dibs' on the job. Getting the shark would be helpful on many levels after all. Not only would they be able to get rid of the hassle for the other villagers and get the bounty but the shark could also become a good amount of food for the family as well.
It was because the beast was useful in so many ways that he wanted to go along with his brother to help. It was just easier said then done since he was still on the cusp when it came to be 'in training' and 'ready to hunt' according to his parents. That was what made the shark so important! If he was able to help, really help, then they might let him tag along on more missions, even dangerous ones, instead of just letting him tag along when it came to the easier things.
Giving another hiss as his brother finally stopped with the teasing he said, "I want to hunt the shark, Koloa! I want to prove myself so that I can actually start to hunt like everyone else instead of having to stay home with the children!" As though he wasn't one himself. Those he was calling babies were those that were those that weren't even training yet. Given the fact that he was considered to be 'in training' that he didn't see himself as a child anymore.
Koloa starred at his brother through his remaining good eye, lips twisting up into a smirk, "Is that so? You're all grown up now, Luka?" He asked, wanting nothing more then to give his brother another pat on the head. He really was acting up and being rather cute, wasn't he? Claiming that he wasn't a child even though he'd yet to really kill anything on his own yet. He supposed that Luka would never get to that point without a chance though, huh?
Giving a little sigh the older, scarred up Koloa finally said, "If you can manage to get permission from our parents, both of them, before I head out in the morning then you can... tag a... long... Huh." Luka was already moving away from him once he'd laid out the stipulations, likely off to hunt down their parents and demand their permission. It was something that he'd leave to their parents to decide since they were the ones ultimately in charge of deciding who did what, including training and hunts. Not as though Koloa could haven't said yes or no for certain when it came to Luka and the shark due to that... not that he'd admit to it.
Luka didn't even bother to look back at his older brother after he'd given the ground rules for hunting the shark. All he had to do was get their parents to allow him to tag a long and he would be hunting sharks with Koloa in no time! Now it was just a matter of tracking them down, talking them into it, and then packing his things so that he could be ready to head out in the morning. He'd have a shark tooth to make into a necklace in no time! It was something that would mark him as being 'of age' and allow him to take on hunts of his own! Something that was more then a little exciting to think about. He'd show his family that he was meant to be a grand hunter, just like his parents!
It took him only a moment to find his mother, mostly due to the fact that at the moment the beautiful being that was his mother was currently guarding some eggs. It was decided by his parents that more children were in order and here they were with more future little ones. He found himself starring at the eggs, something that he knew to be so very vulnerable and delicate, and found himself ever surprised that such powerful hunters such as their family could be born from such things.
His mother was an amazing, powerful hunter, the sort that he would want his future mate to be similar to if he were to marry one day. His mother Ahohako was as 'beautiful as he was dangerous' according to his father, much akin to the blade of a spear. His mother could give life and take it, it was what made them the head of their family as even his father would bend knee to any request that his mother might have. Given that he wasn't one of the oldest though it wasn't really high on his list of things, nor was finding him a fiancee high on his parents list of things. As such he wasn't terribly worried about such things. He was more interested in training and hunting right now instead.
Swimming forward he came to tread in front of Ahohako, at a distance that wouldn't agitate the egg guarding mother, and waited to be acknowledged by his mother's eyes opening up. Giving a smile, hands clasped together against his chest, he said in a polite but earnest manner, "I want to go along with Koloa to get the shark! Please, let me go with him! I want to prove that I am ready to go hunting even if it's not on my own yet."
In an instant his mother's full attention, as well as their sharp gaze, was upon Luka. It was something that pinned him in place, making him feel as though he was being examined to the very core of his being. It was likely his mother sizing him up, deciding on whether or not he was ready and worthy to go on such a hunt. After a moment those bright blue eyes sank closed once more, and Ahohako declared, "I see no reason why you can't. You will speak with your father though, to double check with him. If he has something else in mind for you then you will do that instead." One didn't want Luka to wander off if there was work for him to do around the house.
Luka nodded rapidly, spinning around, and headed for the door, "Thank you mother! I will talk with father next!" With that he was on his way once more as quickly as his swim stroke could carry him. The moment he reached the door though he paused, whirled around, and asked, "Is there anything that you need while I am here, mother?" He asked, not wanting to leave his mother alone if they needed something of him.
Ahohako's eyes slid closed and they said, "Please send your father to me once you're done chatting with him. Other then that there is nothing more I require." Luka nodded, waved again, and was once more on his way to swim along now searching for his father. The man was... well, somewhere around the house. He wouldn't go too terribly far, not with his mate looking after eggs. Any time his mother was guarding some eggs that meant that his father was guarding his mother and the eggs. He didn't go out on hunts but instead made sure that his oldest siblings were assigned and sent out on hunts that would benefit the family most.
It was with two of his older siblings, sisters from the same clutch of eggs, that he found his father training with. The two of them, Heiarii and Heiata, were eerily similar, likely would be impossible to tell apart if not for the fact that they had vastly different scars. Arii for instance had an X shaped scar that crossed her face while Ata was missing two fingers on her left hand. They were born a year or so after Kaloa who was the oldest of all of them, though he'd guess that they were even more dangerous then their oldest brother if only because they worked all of their hunts as a pair.
He watched for a moment as they went through their training. Arii was armed with a pair of dual daggers while Ata had a long bladed spear. It allowed them to have both short and long reach, making them that much more adept at hunting together. He found himself instantly thinking about the one closest in age to him in their family as a whole... but instantly his nose wrinkled. That one... that one wouldn't be very useful as a partner, not as she was at the moment. He'd love to think that she'd come around, that she'd become a good hunter too, but at the moment she was... well, useless.
That meant if he wanted to find a good partner for hunting it would either be one of his younger siblings or maybe someone that he hadn't met with as of yet. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts he hurried forward, making sure to keep out of range, but close enough that he might be noticed by them after a time. It was his father that spotted him first, lifting a hand to halt the training, bringing all eyes to Luka.
Luka starred for a long moment at the three of them before he turned his attention to his father, "Koloa is going after a shark tomorrow. I want permission to go along with him. I already asked mother but I was told to ask you as well."
The twins starred for a moment, seemingly quite interested in what the answer might be. Their father on the other hand first asked, "What is it that your mother said as an answer?"
"Ah! I was told that it was alright but had to make sure that you were alright with it, that you didn't have work for me around home." He really hoped that wasn't the case, not when he was so very close to finally getting to go along on a real hunt against a dangerous predator. He was all but squirming in place as he waited for the answer from his father.
The big man crossed his arms over his chest, a thoughtful look on his face, trying to decide what it was that he wanted to do. It was up to him what happened, if he allowed his son to go along on such a hunt, and knowing that his sweet Hako already agreed. It sounded as though there was really only one answer, wasn't it? Giving a smile and a nod he said, "Yeah, I see why not. Is there anything else that you need Luka? Do you want to get in one some training with your sisters?"
"Ah! Umm... I really do want to want to train with you all... but mother said that once I talked to you that I was to send you their way. I also have to talk to Koloa, to tell him that I am allowed to go with him in the morning... after that can I train with you? Please? I could use the extra edge when I am out with Koloa."
His father gave a nod, "I will be with your mother. The two of you continue your training and help Luka out once he returns... Luka... tell Koloa that he can join the lot of you as well. Best that the both of you get a bit of extra training in before the hunt." With that the man was speeding off, out to join up with his mate, leaving his three children behind.
Luka shook his head, looking over at the twins, and said, "I will join up with you two later!" He gave a wave and then swam off once more, off to find Koloa this time. Time to fill his brother in on everything that had happened since he'd given him the ultimatum, up to and including their father's words on what he should be doing as far as training with the twins went later. There was so much going on at the moment that he wasn't even sure he could process it all. All he knew for certain was that he'd gotten permission from both of his parents, just as Koloa requested, and now he was going to be able to help to hunt a shark! It was beyond exciting!

Healed and Ready to Go!
Luka starred down at his arm as his older sister worked on taking in the wrappings that were around it and one of his legs, a bit of a grin on his face despite the slight pain that he was in at the moment. He was going to have scars from his first hunt he thought to himself, looking forward to being able to show them off to his various family members. They all had great scars from their many hunts and it was something that he had to admit that he was a bit jealous of. Having no scars was the same as being a little baby in their family, not something that Luka cared for even in the least bit.
"What do you think? Do I need to leave the bandages on still or can I finally take them off?" He asked in a curious tone of voice, leaning in so that he could study the wounds he'd gotten. They weren't as amazing as say his sisters but they were still neat enough in his mind at least. Good first scars, especially given how he'd gotten them and from what sort of creature. Who else got to say they faced off against a giant shark for their first hunt?
Ata gave a slight shrug of one shoulder before she said, "If it was me I would say that it's more then fine. They were just scrapes caused by impact with a shark's rough skin. It's hard to say what Momma might want you to be careful since it is your first injury." Their mother could be a bit of a worrywart after all when it came to their babies. They only wanted the best for the little ones that they brought into the world with Tariu.
Giving a nod of his head Luka said, "I will be careful, so long as I don't have to wear the bandages." They were clingy and made it harder to move around, meaning his attempts at training suffered. Now that it was done he could get back to training, get back to hunting, get to do a lot more then what he'd been able to do of late.
As he looked over the cool new marks he had on his skin he found himself if they were the sort that would stick around or the sort that would fade with time. He supposed he would only know if he gave them time to fade away as he grew. Even if they did he was still pleased with the scars and knew that they would be replaced with better ones as he grew up and started to take on more and more hunts. Now that he got the go ahead from his sister he was ready to jump right back into the fight!
Turning his full attention to Ata he asked, "Are you going hunting soon? Is it for something cool? Can I come along?" A string of questions that had her sighing a bit in response. It was obvious that his eagerness to get back into the hunt was something that was leaving Ata a bit exasperated since he had just gotten over his injuries as superficial as they were.
"You know it's not considered being careful if you just go diving back into a hunt the moment your bandages are off... though to be honest I did the same thing many times over. I guess if you get permission you can tag along with us but it's not as though we are going after anything cool. We are going fishing for normal, boring fish to feed the Mother, as well as some to trade for other things that we are in need of." She gave a wave of one hand before she said, "You have to keep in mind that not every hunt is going to be a battle to the death with a shark... Luka are you even listening to me?"
"Huh? Oh! Yeah, completely. I just have to get permission from our mother and then we can go fishing, right?" Upon getting a nod from Ata he clapped his hands together best one could under water and said, "Excellent! I think this is a good thing. It's more likely I will get to go along if it's a hunt for something that isn't dangerous, right? Thanks, Ata!" With that he was racing away from his sister, off to find his mother so he could their go ahead to go fishing with the twins.
Sure a fishing trip wasn't anywhere near as awesome as the trip that he'd gotten to go on with his older brother but it was still a way to hone his skills. Not to mention that fish that were meant to be food might be more difficult to deal with then a shark since they were much smaller targets. He'd get to practice his aim with a weapon, likely a fishing harpoon or spear, against the smaller targets which would help out later. It meant he'd be ready when he had to spear a dangerous beast in the only weak spot that could take it down! A dramatic sort of hunt that he was sure he'd take on one day.
He'd save such hunts for later, after he got a lot more training in, and maybe after he had enough time to talk his cousin into hunting more then just bite sized snack food. Having a hunting partner would be nice, but he wasn't going to hold his breath when it came to Ailani. Instead he'd focus on the hear and now, as well as the fishing trip that he might be able to go on with his sisters.
