Nicodemus grinned very wide, and admittedly it was kinda funny to see a cat grinning at her, but she took it in stride, happy to return the grin.

He was also wagging his tail, and she knew sometimes if cats got really severe with their wagging they were angry, right? But he seemed happy, so it must have been a happy wag, and so she was happy with it. It was exciting to have a new patrolling buddy! Especially one that was just so cute and adorable! She'd have to see if she could introduce this cutie to Cybele, maybe...

Patrolling other areas? She had been to other areas before. She and Cybele had gone to the theatre district before. Well, she was mostly there because she was trying to follow her brother around, but then he went up and disappeared...

She lived pretty close to downtown, too, in an apartment high-rise. Maybe she could suggest they patrol there...

Hmm...

"That's a good idea! I know some other places we can patrol for sure." Anser came out of her thoughts, voicing her agreement. "There's a lot of places to cover in the city, but I think we can do it! I'm pretty fast ya' know. And I have an ability that makes me move faster, so I bet we can cover a lot!"

"Oh? That is very good! I am only familiar with some parts of the City! I need to expand my Knowledge, so I can do a Better Job!" He wriggled happily, though he took care not to wriggle so hard that he fell off her shoulder. He did not want to risk falling flat on his little kitty face.

It would be UTTERLY undignified.

Maybe he wasn't the most worried about his dignity, the way some others were, but even he would feel he had damaged his dignity too much by doing that...

"And oh? Special speed abilities are AWESOME. I approve! Does it help you fight the Bad Guys too?"

His ears flickered in his interest to learn about her special talents. Knowing the Skills of Your Friends and Companions was key to Doing A Good Job as a group!

He glanced around for a moment, making sure he knew where they were going and how far, too... He had to be sure he could track his way back to the place he had been spending nights. He just hoped no one noticed him there. He would have to find another home, if they did.

"I can definitely help! I've been living here for almost fourteen years, so I think I know my way around," offered Anser, with a wink. The wriggling was cute, but she hoped that Nicodemus was being careful. She'd hate for him to fall! He was small, and if people around them weren't paying attention, they might step on the poor thing! That would hurt, she'd think...

It hurt when people stepped on her feet after all...

Hearing that Nicodemus was excited about her ability just made her even more excited. Her ability was awesome on it own, and it combined super awesomely with other speed abilities like Cybele's. She needed to see if it could combine awesomely with other abilities at some point... "Yeah, I think so! It makes me faster, so they can't see me coming!" Anser grinned. "And then pow!" Dramatically, she swung her fist forward and punched just to show Nicodemus how fast she could hit. Of course, she didn't swing around too hard. Didn't want to knock the poor guardian off... "They're down on the ground!"

One of the few times she was able to put a significant dent in the crocodile cane dude was when she used her ability, after all. He couldn't get to her first...

"It's a great ability for a superhero, I think." Anser grinned. "I could show you if you'd like, but you gotta hang on!"

"Oh that would be wonderful! I need to learn this City better!" He did not have all of the city explored. He knew the areas near the hospital, where he tended to sneak in to find people to comfort, and other areas he had begun to explore. He had a bond with children who needed therapy animals, but he was finding that he could sneak into homes for the elderly and the disabled, and it seemed to him that he could help them too. And it made him feel good. There was also places around the library he would sneak into, to try to read the latest poetry books, or even the older ones.

He wasn't so familiar with the rest of the city.

His paws gripped at her shoulder, during her dramatization of her attack, though he was VERY careful to use only his toes, not his claws, because he didn't want to hurt his new friend accidentally... And he kept his kitty claws sharp, because let's be honest here... They, and his teeth, were his only method of self defense! "Oh you have a very good Power, with a really good Plan To Use It!" He would have applauded if he had hands... or felt he could balance while using his paws.

"It's definitely a great ability for a superhero, but... Hmmm. The only way I have to hang on is my claws. I don't wanna hurt you!"

"Hmm," he was probably right. Anser didn't really want claws in her shoulder, but it probably wouldn't hurt that badly. It wouldn't hurt as badly as other things she had dealt with, at least...

"I could set you down, and run around you? That's what I did with Cybele!" offered Anser, with a giggle. "Or maybe," she paused, looking down at her arms. It was a little harder to run while holding things, but it wasn't impossible. She could definitely give it a shot, anyway... "I could hold you? So you can experience the speed! I might be a little slower because I won't be able to swing my arms but..."

It seemed like a good idea to her! Maybe then she could show him more of the city.

She did have the thought that maybe she should be getting home soon, so her mother didn't get suspicious, but running and showing off her ability to Nicodemus was fun!

"Your choice!"

Nico tilted his head, a thoughtful purr escaping him as he considered the options presented to him.

His eyes narrowed, suddenly, as another idea occurred to him, one that might be easier for both of them. He tilted his head back and forth, trying to think of drawbacks to the idea, then he purred and grinned, his whiskers going forwards as he realized that he couldn't see any downsides to his idea.

He gave a sharp nod, and smiled at his new friend. "I have another idea, Anser, if it will work for you?" He gave her cheek a little nuzzle, before continuing, indulging in the feeling of being close to someone.

"What if you got a... bag, like maybe a backpack or a messenger bag? I could ride in that, with my head out, while you run REALLY fast, and show me your speed... I could experience it, you wouldn't have me making it harder to run, and I wouldn't have to hold on to you!"

It sounded like a perfect plan to him. "Obviously, this would involve us meeting again, but since we were talking about that already, I think that shouldn't be a problem?"

"Oh!" What a good idea! That gave them a reason to meet up again, not that she really needed a reason to meet up with an adorable kitty--

She grinned, nodding emphatically. There was a part of her that just considered snatching someone's bag for a brief amount of time -- her power only lasted for a few minutes, it wasn't like they would really miss it -- but she squashed the thought down pretty fast. She had a backpack at home that would work well. It was going to be her new backpack for when she started at Meadowview, and it was nice and roomy because she assumed she was going to need more space for her books. Mama agreed, which might have been a bad sign admittedly she didn't want to be too busy--

"Yeah! That would work! I got a bag at home that would work and it's nice and roomy. I'll put a blanket in it too!" Because cats liked blankets, right? It was so cute when they started purring and just kneading things.

She loved cats.

Musing aloud, she added, "I'll need to explain to Mama why I want my school bag but I don't think she'll be that concerned..."

Probably.

Nico looked extremely proud of himself at her reaction to his idea, because it was good to know that someone other then him agreed with him, and that he WAS a clever kitty!

"Wonderful! I will definitely enjoy riding with you, that way! It might be safer for us both, in the long run, too."

He purred, then blinked at her comment about her Mama. Oh yes, she was young... And would have to deal with her parents' wishes for her, and they might object to her using her school bag that way.

He tilted his head thoughtfully, purring, then said "Do you have another bag, maybe one you are allowed to use for going places with friends, that your Mama might not have questions about? It might be easier, so that you don't Get In Trouble! I wouldn't want to have that happen, just for me!"

It was definitely safer for them both if he was in some kind of bag! Then she could pose and not have to worry about throwing the poor kitty off. And what if they ran into a monster? He was clearly safer in the bag than he was just hanging out on her shoulders...

It made perfect sense. Maybe she should just start carrying a bag around in case she ran into any other guardian cats...

"I'm sure I can figure something out! Mama's started trusting me more lately," partially because she was going to high school soon and her mother didn't really have much of a choice, admittedly, but she wasn't going to count that. Considering that injury she came home with a few weeks ago, she was pretty sure Mama wouldn't trust her at all if she had the choice... "I'm sure if I say I need it for a game contest or something she won't question me any further. I'll just grab my controllers too!"

Nicodemus might need to ride with a couple electronics. It would be fine.

"It's gonna be so fun, you'll see!"

Nico's tail flickered in an excited, happy way. They were finding good solutions Together! Clearly their Minds Were Similar, and they were Intended to Work With Each Other!

This was what he had wanted for so long! A friend to work with! He wondered how all the people he had met before were doing... That felt like a weird, vague memory, like his time away had faded that... But he remembered before he had Awakened clearly. It was very strange to him.

He tilted his head, thinking about it, then said "Well ok... But what if it gets really beat up because you encountered a Bad Person and had to Fight Them?" He gave Anser another cheek nuzzle, this one filled with his concern. "I don't want you to get in Trouble with Your Mother, after all!"

That could be bad for her! He knew family, and parents especially, could make things difficult for people. He'd seen that, sometimes, when he was a Therapy Cat. Kids talked to the cats...

Anser sighed. She guessed he was right, but she wouldn't let a backpack get ruined with a cat in it. Especially if it also had her controllers in it. That would be a tragedy!

"I'll figure something out, okay?" said Anser, brightly. She knew she could figure something out and definitely protect the bag okay, but it might take some extra thinking. Which was fine. She could definitely do some extra thinking. And maybe Cybele would be proud of her for it! It wasn't much, but thinking of a strategy to bring a cat with her was definitely some kind of extra thinking and not just ... running into things.

Anser whuffed some air at that.

She reached up to scratch the cat's head again after he nuzzled her. It was at that moment that she realized they had wandered quite a bit from where they started. Hmm...

She turned behind her.

"Where should I take you, Nico? I think our patrol was successful!" Because no one had dared to challenge them, of course.

Nico gently patted her cheek with one soft paw when she sighed, not wanting her to feel upset or stressed. He just didn't want her to get in trouble!

She would fight better, and be stronger, and HAPPIER, if she wasn't in trouble. And all of that was very important, for both her health and well being, and her abilities as a Senshi.

"Alright. I just want to be sure you will Be Ok! I have heard of this thing parents of human children do called 'Grounding'? And it sounds very Not Fun! I would not want you to get grounded trying to help me!" He leaned into the scratches, eyes half closing, his purr continuing out loud, despite his concern for her.

When she turned, he blinked, curiously, looking around, thinking maybe something caught her attention.

And then her words made him pause, trying to figure out where to have her drop him off, without her realizing he was homeless. Then it hit him. That very fence she found him on! It was on the edge of an area with a number of homes, and it would seem like he lived in one of them!

"Back where you found me!" He said, cheerfully, while thinking about how someday he'd have a real home.

When he mentioned parents of human children, Anser couldn't help a small, not quite chiding, "But I'm a teenager," because of course, thirteen-year-olds were not the same as four-year-olds, and she had to be certain Nicodemus knew that.

Hell, she was about to be fourteen, and in high school! A full-fledged teenager!

Really? Back to where she found him? Did he just keep perch there? She hoped that meant that he had a home nearby there. She didn't want to just be dropping him off to the fence if the fence was his home. But there were a lot of houses in the area, so he probably just lived with some humans who didn't realize he was a guardian cat, right? Because he said he didn't know many people, so he probably meant he didn't know many senshi...

Anser bit her lip for a moment as she thought this over, before brightly saying, "Okay! We can go back to the fence!" She twirled around on her back foot and headed back in the other direction, heading back to where they came.

"Yes but she still is Responsible for you, at least in her Heart and the Law!" He headbutted her, in that kitty way, as he expressed his concern. "And technically she could cause you trouble if she got Mad."

Yes, she was a teenager, and a SENSHI. But parents could still cause trouble for people.

He waited, internally wincing at the idea she might guess or something. He couldn't ask her to take him in, he was sure of that. His eyes watched her face, tail curling around her neck as she thought and considered...

And then she agreed, with a bright voice. He wasn't sure if he had fully fooled her, but she didn't argue, so for now... For now it was ok. He would find a way to make it easier on her in the future. Maybe he'd find a house he could make it look like he was going into, and wait out of sight until she was gone.

"Sounds good! And we can meet in other spots in the future, so we don't make ourselves Obvious with a Habit!"

At the idea of Mama causing Anser trouble, she grumbled something in Spanish under her breath, because Nicodemus was probably right about the still getting her in trouble thing. Even if she was going to high school and she was a senshi, Mama was still her mother and didn't exactly know about the second part...

After all, superheroes couldn't share their identity! That's part of the point of being a superhero, after all.

"Yeah!" replied Anser, merrily, as she made her way back over to the fence. That would be fun! It was like they would be making secret meetup places. Maybe they could have a secret hangout, too. Or a hidden lair! Could guardian cats make hidden lairs? All superheroes needed a hidden lair somewhere...

It took a little bit for them to get back to the fence, considering how far Anser had taken the two of them, but when she got back, she stood at the fence and let Nicodemus hop off her shoulders when she was ready. "That was fun! I can't wait to meet up again," chirped Anser, grinning. She hoped his home was nearby. Hopefully it wasn't too far. Hopefully he had a nice human family nearby...
