$50!?!?! Don't even click the Buy button. It's just a plain old rip off. A good instrument would cost more. And it might have damages on the keys or something. If I were you, go with an Opus I heard they're good. But only from my director and he's a good clarinetist believe me.

I bought it anyway.

The pads are perfect. I'm starting to think that the guy picked it up in 4th grade, tried to play 'hot cross buns' on it, failed, then dropped it (hence the tiny chip in the bell), gave up, and stuck it in the case for the next 20 years.

This thing's in incredible condition, all things said. It plays wonderfully. I'm able to play quite lucidly for having it only two days!

It's probably a piece of crap. I wouldn't do it. That is just TOO good of a deal to be true.

I found it on eBay, I'm not posting because one of y'all might buy it out from under me blaugh if you really wanted it you could search for it anyway...

It's a "vintage" (old) Bundy resonite (plastic) clarinet that was pretty much played by this guy for a few months in 4th grade then stuck back in the case and never used again.

35 bucks plus 15 shipping says it's mine. I need a clarinet to practice on, I just care that it makes decent sounds (student instrument would be fine).

Good deal, though?

I personally think that you're takig a gamble with buying instruments off ebay. It might be good, but then it might be just random clarinet parts put together.

as they always say....
tone quality for price

actually it's vintage for tone quality..but I thought this would fit as well

Don't do it. I have been playing clarinet for about 8 years now. I've been playing on a peice of crap Soloist clarinet that i bought for $98 a while back...this last April, I swtiched to a $2,500 Buffet R-13 good switch...

The reason behind that story?
Don't buy the instrument unless you can test it first. If you can't test it don't bother because if it DOES have poor tone quality, your ear will be trained to the tone and when you switch, you'll think something is wrong with the tone of the new and better instrument mainly because it has proper tone, but you were used to the crappy tone.

Hope any, if not all, of this helped

Don't. 50$ for a vintage clarinet?? Shouldn't it be more? I saw trombones that were vintage around 1k.

My BD gave me a paper about "Renting or Purchasing an Instrument"...
"There are many choices when obtaining an instrument- Buy New, Buy Used, Rent-to-own,etc,. For most students, the best choice is to rent(I never rented mine: In the fear of losing/damaging and even stolen. Or even accidentally swapping instruments by mistake...) from a local music center. Renting allows the parents to put in money for a instrument and when your finale price is paid, you own it. Rental contracts also provide free repairs. Therefore renting a instrument is the BEST choice. 90% of band students take this route.
RULES AND ADVICE:
1 razz lease only get the instrument your teacher agreed to. (Ex: You can't get a Baritone when your BD told you to play Alto Sax.)
2: Only get a quality Name Brand instrument (Yamaha, Selmer,Gemeinhardt,Buffet and Bach... Etc,.)
*If you want to buy, check with your band teacher BEFORE purchasing.
7:If your renting: Please call your local music store to verity their hours and availability pf your instrument before going.

As I said, I never rented because:
1:Fear of being stolen and having to pay for the instrument.
2:Fear of really bad damages.
3:Fear of losing the instrument and possibly never finding it.
4:Fear of Picking up another person's instrument.
5:For my Trombone, I would only be able to rent for 4 months. In the fear of "Giving it back and the school wouldn't/couldn't supply me with one".
6:Getting a ugly instrument.

Woodwinds:
If you want to buy a instrument off ebay, check to see if theres pictures of the instrument keys: Are some keys missing(Yes/No)? Are the pad parts yellow, torn or even possibly missing((Yes/No) ?
Check the Mouthpiece/embrochure hole/bocal. Is the embrochure hole scratched(Yes/No)? Is the mouthpiece broke(Yes/No)? Is the Bocal dented(Yes/No)?
Check the parts of the instrument. Is the barrel of a clarinet on the verge of breaking(Yes/no)? Is the headjoint of the flute dented? (Yes/No)
Is the long joint of the Bassoon on the verge of breaking(Yes/No)?
Can the tuning slide/area be adjusted? (Yes/No)
If all the answers are YES(Except for last. If it is no. Still don't buy it) : DO NOT BUY IT. =3

Brass:
Check the valves. Are they stuck?(Yes/NO)
Check the slide. Do you see dents on the outer AND inner slide? (Yes/No)
Do they have "Red Rot"? (Yes/No)
Can the tuning slide be adjusted? (Yes/No)
Does it have a conterweight? (Most can be taken off. ) (Yes/No)
Is the tuning slide dented? (Yes/No)
Does the instrument have rust?(Yes/No)
Does it come w/ a mouthpiece? (Yes/No) (Do you own your own mouthpiece if not? Yes/NO)
Is the shank part of the mouthpiece dented? (Yes/No)
Is it the mouthpiece the size of the receiver? (Trombone: Yamaha YSL-354 only allows large shanks.
Getzens only allow small shanks.)

If all of your answers are yes(Except for the Mouthpiece) : Don't buy it.

Sorry if I am wrong.
HM
PS: If the pad part for woodwind instruments are yellow/ torn: That means you need to replace them with white ones. =)

not really...
I bought a silver trumpet for $70
of course I saw the condition and everything
but it plays perfect; and all I had to get done was realign the tuning slide

My friend bought a clarinet off of eBay for $20.00, I really should have told her not to, but it was her money.

And, of course, it was crap. XD

i have one of those and got it for 75. i only use it to fiddle with my other one is a normandy. i guess if you just wanna fiddle with it then thats fine but the sound it gets is pretty flat. so don't use it for real in band class.

Good luck with that. Chances are if it's only $50, plastic, and on eBay, it wont sound good. On the plus side... if you get it and the only thing wrong are the corks and/or the pads, it'll be easy to fix up. Then again... if I had money, and I saw an Eb on eBay for $50.... I'd probably buy it. But I've never seen a plastic Eb.... hmm....
