Gurdi McDoppelbottom
[ Level ? Hunter | Treasure Hunter ]

As the girl finished getting the hang of Ren, Gurdi smiled. He knew it was time to begin the final stages of training. She'd have to go to a place Gurdi had set up exactly for this. He walked up close to her before locking her into his movement spell once again. "Sorry for being so forward, but let's go somewhere together?" Both of them would stand straight with their hands on their hips and legs spread just about a foot. Gurdi would make the two of them lift their right arm and then snap their fingers in the direction of the other person. They'd vanish once more as they had done to get on the roof of this building. They'd appear instantly in a luxurious apartment designed mostly in red and gold. They were in what seemed to be a den of sorts, a place where there was only a table, two chairs, and a fire place. The room was lined on the walls top to bottom with literature of various languages from all over the world. It some places along the bookshelves seemed to be relics of the ancient sort, each from one of Gurdi's numerous expeditions. Upon the table was a wine glass filled to the brim with water. Atop, floated a single leaf. "Go to that glass of water and place your hands just inches from the glass itself. Use Ren. This ritual is the final stage of your training. We will then discover what path you shall lead as a Hunter."

Training

Hatsu (発, Release)
Once learned, one would have the ability to awaken their true Nen abilities and have mastery over the Nen of the Flame Techniques. This technique, while having no direct application, allows a character to apply for a Custom Hatsu Ability.
Technique Type: Nen
Point Cost: Passive
Requirements: The master will set a glass filled to the brim with water with a single leaf floating atop, and ask the trainee to hover their hands just around the outside of the glass. The trainee will perform Ren in their hands. The water will exhibit one of six traits. Depending on the trait, the user is a different type of Nen user. If the volume of the water changes, the user is an Enhancer. If the taste of the water changes, the user is a Transmuter. If impurities appear in the water, the user is a Conjurer. If the color of the water changes, the user is an Emitter. If the leaf moves on the water's surface, the user is a Manipulator. If a completely different change appears, the user is a Specialist. The trainee must make at least a 300 word post detailing this process.

It brought a bit of excitement to the young Hunter, knowing that something fun was about to come of this in her next step towards mastering the basics of Nen. With a raise of the arm and a snap of the finger, Veronif could see in her peripheral vision the outdoor rooftop and dingy Three Lions District simply melting away as reality warped and morphed around them. Swirls of color and light dominated her visual axis, but just as fast as her vision was distorted, everything seemed to return back to normal as the girl found herself now in what appeared to be the inside of an apartment. Feeling control over her body once again, it took every last ounce of sheer willpower for her not to dart around the room, gushing at everything the space had to offer.

Her immediate assessment of the area showed her firstly that the interior had a rather minimalistic design – elegant red and cold color scheme, with a table, two chairs, and a fireplace close by. She appreciated the simplicity of it all, which made sense given what Veronif was assuming to be the purpose of the room. Perhaps it was Gurdi’s personal study or library, because the most striking feature of their new space was the floor to ceiling shelves filled with books, their spines on proud display. In her immediate vicinity, Veronif noted that the books were written in all sorts of languages, many in her own tongue, some in foreign tongues that she could recognize, but a large portion in script that she had never even seen before. With a slight turn to the left, she could see artifacts and relics in glass cases sprinkled between volumes of text. Most of the items Veronif didn’t even recognize – there was still a lot to be learned about ancient civilizations and dungeon exploring for this young Hunter.

When she was directed, Veronif took note of the wide-bowled wine glass that was sitting on the table. Sleek and elegant in design, she realized at that point that the glass was not just an accent piece to the expensive-looking mahogany table it sat upon. it made sense to the girl that someone of Gurdi’s nature would have something so luxurious in his possession, given his style.

Veronif wasn’t quite sure what to make of her next task. It seemed a little lackluster in comparison to everything that they had just went through. She was already beginning to feel the fatigue of training setting in, but she wasn’t willing to quit while they were making such good progress. As she approached the table, Veronif noticed the single leaf floating atop the water in the glass. Was he expecting her to do something to that leaf using her aura? There was no way that a leaf would have suddenly fallen into the glass so conveniently, so it must have been part of the training. She turned back to Gurdi with a quizzical look on her face. ”The path I’ll lead as a Hunter?” She repeated, as if saying his exact words again would somehow bring logic and sense into what he was asking her to do. To no one’s surprise, Veronif was still as confused as ever, but that didn’t stop her from doing as she was told.

Hovering her hands over the edge of the wineglass bowl, Veronif focused. Her aura travelled to her hands yet again, but with such close proximity to the water that it seemed as if her energy field was penetrating through the glass and intermingling with the inner contents itself. But for what felt like an eternity, nothing was happening. Unrelenting in her attempts, Veronif continued pushing herself, but her will seemed to waver a bit when, again despite her best attempts it seemed as if nothing was happening to the water. Her world fell quiet, with only the sound of crackling coming from the fireplace to drown out her breathing. ’s**t… what’s going on?’ She thought as she bit her bottom lip in frustration. ’Why isn’t it working?’ Was she not putting enough force into it? Or was it something else..?

In the darkest depths of her mind, the nagging feeling of her inadequacy was slowly surfacing. Rarely did Veronif ever let something like this influence her, but with such an important occasion she couldn’t help but fall into the mental slump. It was her greatest fear - to be inadequate. To be forced to rely on her father’s influence to succeed in life, even though any opportunity for that was long gone since she split from the family. This was something Veronif had sworn she would never do when she left home at the age of sixteen and cut all ties with her family. Her father was a criminal in her mind, no matter how legal his battles were. For his defending of the scum that ran Yorknew, Veronif could never forgive her father, no matter the circumstances.

Yet as she stood with her hands around the glass and waited as nothing happened to neither the glass, nor the water nor the leaf, the negativity in her mind that she had bottled in for the longest time was slowly seeping out. This setback was almost enough to consume her in the darkness. ’No. You’re better than this.’ Her thought, like a singular radiating needle that pierced through the darkened veil, seemed to shock the girl’s body into a more alert state as the emotions began to well up within her core. ’Prove them wrong. Prove that you’re better, that you can do better without them.’ Heaving a deep sigh, Veronif forced her the bulk of her aura into her hands, her emotions near bursting as they swelled to the surface. ”I’m not going to fail…”

The words uttered under her breath almost seemed to be the catalyst to the effects she caused in the water. At first, the surface rippled, sending the leaf into a rhythmic dance on the surface until, as if mirroring Veronif’s emotions, the water began to swell over the surface. It was only a matter of seconds before the swelling bubble of water reached the critical point. As the intermolecular forces in the water began to degrade, the mass ruptured, sending water spilling over the edge of the wineglass rim and onto the table underneath. With her hands still hovering, the water continued to flow with increasing ferocity over time. Unfortunately for Gurdi and his study, at this point Veronif’s eyes had been closed. For her, all she could focus on was the view of her hands tearing through the darkness in the recesses of her mind, a symbolic representation of her steps towards conquering whatever had befallen her.

It didn’t dawn on her that anything was happening until she heard the sound of water splashing to the ground. Opening her eyes, Veronif almost jumped back in shock when she saw the mess that she had made. ”Oh my god!” Jumping back from the watery puddle that now surrounded the table, Veronif quickly cut the flow of aura that was the source of the mess. ”I’m so sorry! I didn’t realize this would happen.”

Gurdi McDoppelbottom
[ Level ? Hunter | Treasure Hunter ]

Gurdi belted out laughing at the water overflowing everywhere and soaking his expensive carpet. "It's fine, my dear, I have many more carpets. They're replaceable." He walked closer to the girl and put his hand on her shoulder. "You're an Enhancer, my dear! You're physical capabilities are far great than most. I'm sure that lying in wait inside of you is glorious light that can topple the greatest of evils." Gurdi retracted his arm and stepped out of the puddle. With the snap of his fingers, a butler would materialize out of thin air, it seemed. He'd look to the puddle and conjure a towel to begin soaking it up. Whoever Gurdi really was, he was definitely powerful. "Well, while my servant works on this, what say you to discussing this job of mine?"

She was still in awe at what she realized she was capable of doing. For one, learning Hatsu in itself was a new and amazing experience for her, but now that she learned that she was an Enhancer, that made things all the more surreal. She had heard of all the legendary Enhancer-type hunters out in the world before, but never imagined she would ever be able to even stand alongside any of them until now. Eager to learn and train more, Veronif smiled, nodding to Gurdi’s proposal.

”Sure. What kind of job is it?” She asked. The eagerness in her tone was almost tangible as she did her best to stay rooted, despite everything within her wanting to leap out of the apartment and go explore the world already. With Nen, it felt as if she was almost limitless when it came to where she could go or what she could do. Whatever his task for her would be, Veronif was ready to tackle anything.

Gurdi McDoppelbottom
[ Level ? Hunter | Treasure Hunter ]

"This job....is dangerous. I'm going to be leading a team of hunters into unexplored territory. I'm going to require the hunters that come with me be prepared to fight for their lives with everything at their disposal. What we've done here tonight was unlock the powers of Nen for you. That is your first step to preparing for this job. Your next task is to get experience delving dungeons and to conquer all the you come across. There's even one here in the city if you don't mind the sewers. Once you have experience, I need you to assemble a team. Learn to operate a group expedition in dungeons you've not conquered and take them down. Take that team and train them so that they may come with you on your expedition with me." Gurdi had locked eyes with Veronif as he spoke and never blinked, even as he paused for a moment, maybe expecting a quick response. He'd then continue, "So... if you're ready for the opportunity to follow my trail into uncharted lands, then let me here your answer." He'd reach out his hand to Veronif for her to shake. He hoped she'd be the one to pave the way into the Dark Continent.

Her eyes widened as he spoke about the prospect of adventuring into uncharted territories. This was an amazing opportunity, and she wanted nothing more than to travel - that was the whole reason she had become a Hunter in the first place. She wasn’t too sure about how she felt when it came to leading a team, but she figured with time and experience it shouldn’t be a major issue for her. There was still a lot to be done, and a lot of training to happen before she knew she’d be ready for something so big. Nodding to the man, Veronif took his hand in hers as she gripped it firmly and shook it. ”You can count on me, Gurdi. No treasures or artifacts will ever be safe once I’m on the lookout for it, and there’s no way in hell I’ll let you down.” She told him with a wide, beaming, confident grin. ”Once I conquer all the dungeons here, we can go explore uncharted territories together. We’ll kick a** and take names.

“But uh… first I should probably start training. Is there an exit to this place?”

Gurdi McDoppelbottom
[ Level ? Hunter | Treasure Hunter ]

Gurdi smiled and simply snapped his fingers. As he did so, Veronif would transport instantly back to that alley behind the liquor store. After about a minute, she'd get the following text on her phone from Gurdi: "There are two locations I suggest you conquer first. Coraldale off the coast of Whale Island and the underground sewer system in Yorknew City. If you can make it to the end of each dungeon, retrieve an item of great value, and return, you'll have earned you place among the hunters of your ilk. I wish you luck in all your endeavors. Contact me if you need any advice. I cannot be of use for anything more."

Yami Matsuoda
[ Outlaw Hunter | Level 4 Hunter ]

Yami walked out from the Hunter's Association quickly and then took over a local cab to get him to the bank. It was amazing how many things you can get away with with just flashing the Hunter's ID. Once he got to the bank, he made a withdrawal and started walking back towards the Seven Lions district. There was a liquor store there that he knew had a type of cigarette that he loved and he absolutely had to buy himself two packs so that he had enough to last a while. As he walked, he figured it was time for another shot. He didn't want to go too long without having a shot because as a certain while draws near, he can feel his powers about to start fading away. Every time he took a shot, he felt that power grow. He lifted his left hand and did the same conjuring of a sake cup as he usually did. The golden aura, the golden sphere, the cup vanishing after Yami takes the shot. It was all the typical way it always happened.

Finally Yami would arrive at Inkwell Liquor. Just down the way in the alleys was where Yami had his fight earlier. He walked up to the automatic sliding glass doors and let them open up for him. He walked through and they closed behind him. Yami immediately walked up to the counter and looked over to where he kept the cigarettes. "Two packs of Kingsleys and hold on.." Yami walked away over to the glass door to the fridge where the liquor was. He reached inside and pulled a forty ounce bottle out and returned to the counter. "And a forty, too if that's cool." It was a quick process of Yami getting in and out of the liquor store and on his way to find a place to sleep for the night.

Yami Matsuoda
[ Outlaw Hunter | Level 4 Hunter ]

Yami stepped up to the glass door and it slid open to allow him entry. It was late at night this was one of the only liquor stores that would serve him at this late of an hour. He'd enter and shoot a glance to the clerk at the counter, who would meet his glances and send a welcoming nod towards Yami. Annoyed and tired, Yami would ignore the nod and continue further into the small shop. He knew exactly what he wanted, but he had plenty of money to spend and might end up getting something extra if he saw something else that he wanted.

Yami pressed through each aisle, seeing all the different snacks and random things. Oil for a car, some basic groceries, junk food, and lots of gum options. None of things here really meant anything to him, so he would move over to the alcohol in the refrigerators. Yami's eyes scanned up and down, but nothing really caught his eye at first, Then he zeroed in on a particular bottle of malt liquor. He hadn't had any of this in a while so he thought it was time he treated himself to some liquor. He'd open the door and swipe two, forty ounce bottles of ******** yeah, I'm gonna take these to the pier and get hammered." If there was any seemingly normal thing that Yami enjoyed doing, it was going to watch ships come into the harbor or enjoy the sea breeze at the pier. After closing the door to the refrigerator, he'd take the bottles over to the clerk and set them on the counter. He wasn't done shopping just yet, though. He'd address the clerk and ask, "Can you pass me four Kingley's packs? Time to stock up, ya feel?" The clerk smirked a bit and then reached above himself to grab the packs of cigarettes. He scanned the items and threw them all into a double bagged plastic hand bag.

"That'll be 72,000 jenny, please." The clerk spoke as he offered an open palm to accept the money. Yami dug into his pockets and pulled out the roll of bills he had on him. The roll had 207,000 jenny in it, but Yami would flip out bills until he had 72,000 pulled out. Yami would plant those bills into the palm of the clerk, snatch the bag, and walk quickly out of the shop. He couldn't wait to light a smoke and head to the pier.
