Kaimi glanced in the direction that the smaller boy was pointing, a curious look on his face, "Over there, huh?" It was a bit on the darker side compared to other areas of the grotto but he could understand why a child would be afraid of such a place. He wondered if he should check it out first, just to make sure that it was safe enough for someone like Kaleo to go.

Looking down at the boy that was now ducking behind him he asked in a curious manner, "Do you want me to check it out first? Just to make sure that it's not too scary or dangerous?" He was older so it really should fall to him he supposed.

Kaimi gave a nod of his head, "Sure. It seems only right that I do so in exchange for you showing me this place." With that he gave Kaleo a little pat on the head before swimming forward, moving to investigate the area that was cloaked in shadows. It didn't take too long for him to search it all out, not really running into anything all that scary. It just seemed to be shadows cast by various rock formations that made the area appear dark and scary when it really wasn't all that much different the the rest of the grotto.

After a time he came back into the light and said, "I don't really see or feel anything all that scary. Just more of the same over there hidden in the shadows." He was happy to report that there was nothing scary to be seen since it meant that the boy could relax and fully enjoy his little hide out completely.

Kaimi looked down at the offered grasses and took some, lifting it up so that he could take a bite. He chewed the leaves slowly before giving a smile, "Wow, this is quite wonderful. Thank you for sharing this with me, Kaleo." It was something that he would definitely consider getting for a snack in the future if he happened to be in the area.

"Hm? What do I do?" He wasn't sure if he was considered a 'grown up' yet but he was older then Kaleo. As such he supposed that he could explain a bit? Giving a smile he said, "Mostly I spend my time digging for crystals. I am trying to get enough of them gathered to reach a goal of mine." He was getting close, which was exciting in his mind.

He gave a nod of his head, "Yeah, they can look bright at times depending on the colors." He said, then gave a thoughtful sound, "There could be?" He set to concentrating on the idea, curious himself now if there were crystals in the area. He hadn't wanted to look before because he was supposed to be here with Kaleo, to seek out the sweet grass, not look for crystals.

Now that he was focusing though he could feel the buzz in his barbels that told him there were crystals around. Not one, but a few just in the nearby vicinity. Giving a thoughtful sound he said, "Yeah, there seems to be a lot of them here. I think that Uukai must have definitely blessed this place. It made sense, looking around one could see bits of light reflecting here and there. He hadn't even really placed the reason for why that was until now.

"That's really neat." As tempting as it was to try to take some he realized it would be terrible of him. This was Kaleo's special place. Only a jerk would raid it for the crystals within and risk making it less beautiful.

"Hm? Well, I could... though I feel a bit bad taking one of them from your hideout. They seem to be pretty important to this place since they reflect the light and brighten the place up so nicely. I can always find one outside of this place so that I don't risk ruining this place on you."

As the boy suddenly moved away from him Kaimi found himself following after Kaleo, a curious look on his face. A moment later the smaller Menehune produced a shell, saying he could dig with it. He took the shell, looking it over, and then said, "Huh... you know what? That's an amazing idea. I tend to dig with my hands so they are rather rough from that, my nails a bit chipped and beat up, and the like." His were the hands of someone that worked hard day in and day out... something to help him dig could actually be quite useful.

"It would be pretty intimidating... though at the same time it's possible that it would be delicious as well." He would have to keep an eye out to see what lived in such a shell... and if it looked good he might see if it was possible to catch and make a meal out of.

After inspecting the shell he said, "These would be good for digging." He thought on it for a moment before looking to Kaleo and asked, "Do you want to come digging for crystals with me sometime? So long as it's alright with your parents that is. I don't want to get you in trouble or anything." As much as he'd like to teach another person what he was doing as far as his work went he felt Kaleo likely needed permission since he was still young and had family that seemed to care about him. Unlike Kaimi.

Kaimi blinked a couple times as the other was suddenly declaring that he would go and talk with his parents 'now'. He gave Kaimi a hug, something else that was a bit surprising for the normally loner. The grotto was declared open if Kaimi wanted to come back, Kaimi was labeled a friend... and then the boy was gone.

"He's a bit like a whirlwind." He said to himself as he tucked the shell he was given away into one of his packs. He'd try that out on his next dig. For now though he was going to gather up some of the sweet kelp, not too much though not wanting to be greedy, but enough to snack on. Once that was done and after one last look around the grotto he headed out.

He'd meet up with Kaleo again soon so they could go digging. For now though he should get to work.
