Esmeralda stopped taking notes when Miss Nebraska started her monologue and looked to Waylon when she was given his full attention. "Well I assumed that" she said. "Or else more people would be able to see and speak with spirits" she said with a smile. "Not sure any ability comes with a rule book" she said. "Well i'm sure anyone that has had some touch from death has some form of connection with the spiritual world" she said. She watched him look at his phone but it didn't seem like anything important. She heard her own phone buzz in her backpack but didn't bother to check it. Class was almost over and she was enjoying their conversation.

He nodded to what she had to say and looked around the room. The students all seemed to be toning out when she was monologuing, and it seemed this wouldn't be the first time. He figured that a near-death experience, or having died and come back, had something to do with a strong mediumship ability. "You're very wise for your years, even though I don't know how many that is. I peg you as being.......I want to say, 22?" he questioned. He hoped he'd guessed younger rather than older, because he didn't want to upset her. "I'm only 20 by the way," he finished, figuring he should mention his own age.
He was glad he shared this kind of class with Esmeralda, because he knew she'd make the boring parts better. If there were group projects and assignments, he'd include her, and if he was going to make a study group it'd be with her and maybe a handful of others. He hoped they shared other classes together as well, because she was quickly becoming a friend of his.
Esmeralda smiled. "Well thank you" she said and shook her head. "I'm 24" she said. "I started college later then most people" she said and shrugged though she didn't regret it. She had spent a few years in Mexico after high school to take care of her great grandmother who was already old and suffered from Alzheimer. She passed away and after that she decided it was time to go back to school. She knew her great grandmother lived a wonderful life and died peacefully so she celebrated her life and mourned as long as she had needed to.
She was glad to have made another friend here. She still got a lot of looks and comments about her appearance but that was nothing new. She worked hard to be as confident as she was and was not going to let anyone try to knock her down. She was excited for her next to classes especially ending the day with some dancing. "So what classes do you have next?" she asked him.

Waylon raised his brows in surprise, "you could pass for 19." When she mentioned starting college later he gave a small laugh through his nose, a sound resembling an exhalation. "My father always said my mother never started college until she was 30. He made it sound like a bad thing but she didn't want to go through college pregnant and raising my sister so she waited. She did two years of community college, graduated, and then had me. I have no problems with older people in college. Heck, there's someone in my fitness class who's 30, and it's not the teacher." he said.
He listened to her ask about his next classes. "Let's see, I have Choir and Dance next." he said. He moved a lock of his dreads out from his face. He had a large headband specifically for dreadlocks in his bag, that he'd likely use later on. Especially for dance, since he knew he'd be active for that.
Esmeralda smiled. "Well thank you I am flattered that you think so" she said and listened to what he said about his mother. "Well I commend your mother for being able to do that. It is not easy to go to school especially when you have a baby" she said. "Really? So do i " she said smiling. "Looks like we'll be seeing each other a lot" she said. She was glad to have a friend in her classes. It's nice to be able to have someone to practice with, study, and do projects. SHe was looking forward to the rest of the year.

Choir and Dance are going to have so many people! It'll be awesome!
What is Esmeralda's singing voice going to be?

He smiled at her nice response about his mother and his smile got bigger when she mentioned they'd be sharing the same classes. "I'm honestly surprised you're not doing a major like Musical Theater, but to each their own. It's going to be a blast with you in three of my classes back to back," he said.. He had his things packed up and was now just waiting for the bell. Miss Nebraska was still going on about a story completely unrelated and he let out a small scoff. This was going to be an interesting year.
He was ready to sing his heart out, wondering how the choir class was going to go. What assessments would they do? His curiosity was getting the better of him, and he wasn't terribly patient when it came to things he was looking forward to.
Esmeralda smiled. "I may change it but who knows?" she said with a shrug. She was now putting her notebook away and pulled her phone out checking it to only see the message about the new pub that is opening. She put it in her pocket and once the bell rang she got up with Waylon. "Ready?" she asked. She smiled as they started walking to choir.

The bell rang and Waylon stood up from his seat, pushing the chair in. "Ready as I'll ever be. Let's get singing!" he said with a grin. He was excited to go into choir, because he was looking forward to sing. His vocal range was far beyond that which was expected when people looked at him and he was okay with that. He was keen to meet some new faces and enjoy the time in the new class. He followed after Esmeralda and followed her from the Walt Disney Hall across campus to the Performance Hall for Choir class.
