He hummed softly in agreement. That was fair. He tried to pack his own lunch when he could but sometimes his sack got lost in the shuffle of sending everyone to school. He definitely had favorites sometimes. "I don't think you could go wrong with a pasta," Malikah informed, patting his stomach softly as he licked his lips. "But I love a good fish too. In the pan, without the deep fry," he explained, ear tufts wiggling at the thought. "Apparently fish oil can help you keep your fur nice and silky too," the boy explained a bit offhand.
However, his claws flew to his mouth and he stifled a soft, awkward laugh in his palm. "I'm sorry, do you eat fish?" the hybrid asked curiously, not sure how the Nixie viewed such things. He supposed they were like the Naiad in opinion, but not many other races had... edible counterparts (or not). "I'm a dummy," he sighed to himself, closing his eyes briefly.

Avelyn listened to Malikah's bout of knowledge, interested in what he had to say. She looked at her fur, wondering if fish oil would make her even softer than she was. Before she could compliment his knowledge, she looked up and noticed that he looked embarrassed... or something? She giggled some as he apologized, realizing that he was worried that he offended her. "I do eat fish. I am part grimm and crave the meat... but even if I were just a nixie, I would probably still eat fish." She explained, "And I certainly don't think you are a dummy. I was actually going to compliment your intelligence for the fish oil comment you made. I didn't know if could make my fur softer.... It was interesting knowledge." She told him with a smile, relaxing in her seat. "And... Pasta does sound good but so does fish... So I am more that fine with either."

He smiled faintly, laughing as he cleared his throat. It was reassuring that Avelyn didn't take offense. It did make sense with her being part Grimm though. "Fish pasta?" he suggested as a compromise, his tail flicking at the end over his feet. "I think it would taste good with pesto... and you just plate it on top." He grinned, enjoying the image.
"I think it's just something I heard from my fluffy Dad, by the way," he pointed out, having skipped over her compliment. Malikah shrugged loosely, moving to look out the window. "We want the next stop. Are you ready?" he asked, trying to prepare her for the quick bail out the door.

Hearing Malikah explain the dish he had planned, Avelyn couldn't help but smile as she imagined the delicious dish... she could almost taste it. "That sounds really... really good." She told him, "You can make that? Wow." She added, her fins twitching some in excitement. It was really amazing that Malikah could cook; Avelyn had always considered trying to cook but she didn't want to do it in front of a class. The hybrid frown a bit when her friend totally pushed her compliment aside, "well... You choice to listen and retain that knowledge and taught me something... So my comment is still accurate." She explained. She was about to say something else when she saw him look out the window and mention their stop was neck. Her heart thudded some, suddenly nervous. What if they missed their stop because she tripped or something? Avelyn clutched her belongings, moving to be ready to go. She bit her lip nervously, waiting for him to go and hoping she didn't get left behind.

His ear tufts wiggled in acknowledgement of her words, but he was too focused waiting for their stop to be called, sharing some of the same concerns despite his seasoned train rider status. As the car began to slow, he turned and offered her a palm, claws out wide to give her enough safe skin to grab. "Come on," he encouraged with a smile to ease her nerves, shuffling into the aisle and down towards the door. Others had the same idea, the sea of bodies crowding in close.
It was only a beat before the train doors screeched open, and he shuffled them forward. As he stepped off the train, he made a wide gesture to make sure he didn't force Avelyn into an unsafe position between himself and the train before releasing her hand and instead drawing his tail up close. The wave of people made him nervous, and he didn't want to let it dangle under the car. "We're going to go down the street to the left," he announced cheerily, looking over his shoulder to watch the train depart before dropping his tail. It curled the opposite way around his feet.
The neighborhood in the distance did look a bit intimidating from afar as many of the houses were large and multistory, but there were enough people and carriages loosely roaming around it wasn't some gated private villa. Regardless, Malikah looked comfortable and he fell quiet for a moment to let Avelyn gather her thoughts as she had looked stressed on the train. "It's a bit different than campus out here, yeah?

Avelyn looked to his paw as he offered it to her, taking it and holding on tightly so she wouldn't get lost or left behind. When Malikah smiled, some of her nerves melted away. He was so good to her and so sweet. She followed him to the aisle and roughly towards the door. There were so many people trying to get off, she wished they would just SIT! She scooted closer to her friend, keeping a close eye on his tail to make sure she, or any one else, didn't step on it. When they emerged from the train car, she moved to be close to him as the crowd moved around him. Seeing the train tracks, she was worried about Malikah's fluffy tail again. She moved to grab it but he beat her too it. She watched as the train went off, turning her attention to her friend. Down the street and to the left? She looked to see where he was talking about but was quickly distracted by how different it was here than on the campus she lived on. "Wow... It's really nice here... look at those houses! Do you live in one like that?" She asked in awe, taking it all in. She slid her paw into his as she watched the carriages and other people. She wished she could like somewhere like this... maybe if she saved up enough money to move into an apartment when she was a senior...

Malikah made a soft noise as something touched his soft palm again, but with a quick glance he simply confirmed it was Avelyn. He did not mind much, and he gave her hand a soft squeeze in recognition. "Yeah," he confirmed with a nod. "When I was younger we all lived in a small apartment, but long story short my Dad got us good chunk of money. So we moved into a bigger house." Malikah shrugged a little, not having much more information to elaborate with.
Giving her a moment to take in the sights, he began to gently lead her in the right direction. "You know, if you wanted out more, you could always try and find a job somewhere close?" Malikah suggested, trying to be helpful.

Avelyn blushed some when Malikah didn't mind the hand holding. She smiled softly as she listened to her friend speak. It was really interesting to hear that they had started in a small apartment then moved to a mansion... Or at least what she imagined a mansion was. "That's really cool. I can't imagine what I'd do with all that space. I only have..." She paused, mentally counting to herself. "Maybe two small boxes worth of belongings." She explained, " So I don't even know if I'd have enough stuff to fill a bedroom." She thought to herself quietly, , holding his hand as they walked towards his house. Avelyn looked up as Malikah mentioned something about getting a job near by. "That's a really good idea! Then I could visit you more often." She mused with a big smile. "I wonder what kind of jobs are here... you know, that would hire someone with no experience or anything." She added, looking to her friend with curiosity.

Malikah titled his head, his ear tufts wiggling. "Have I said I have a lot of siblings?" he pointed out with a laugh. He couldn't ever think of his house as spacious as it was always full of people. Malikah couldn't think of a time he had ever been there alone. "There's nothing wrong with being a bit minimalist," the Imp hybrid offered gently.
With a hum he considered her question. "Well, baby sitting is probably the obvious one," Malikah mused, thinking of how often he had to watch his own younger siblings. "Pet sitting too. I think there are a few small boutique shops too not far from here? I'm sure they'd love a new store clerk. That's entry level?"

Avelyn smiled, "I guess that's true.. You probably never have a dull or quiet moment in your house." She thought of his comment about being a minimalist, wondering if it was something she does because she is a minimalist or if it was because she never had anything to begin with. "Well, I am not entirely sure if I am a minimalist... I just don't have many things. Between my roommates and also not having a way to get more things... I think I'd consider myself poor, if anything." He explained, tapping her claw on her chin as she considered it. She grinned as he mentioned some different jobs that she could apply to. "Oh, the boutique shop idea sounds good. I think I will try for that sometime soon... Since you said they are likely entry level." She felt... excited! With a job, she could get more money and maybe get an apartment when she was old enough. Then if she had roommates, it'd be because she wanted them.

He nodded along encouragingly. "I think you could easily sell anything you held up." The boy gave a bright smile before continuing. "I guess that means I should probably start thinking about a job too soon," Malikah informed with a dry laugh. He had no prospects other than maybe tutoring or something. Absently he squeezed her hand, not having much else to add. They were both young, and obviously, he had parents to help fund his whims and desires.
As they drew closer, he adjusted his bag on his shoulder. "That's my house down there," the junior informed, pointing with a claw. "The uh, one with the messy lawn," Malikah murmured, suddenly momentarily embarrassed. His fluffy dad was a great homebody but... he shook his head, pushing his bangs out of his face with the back of his free hand. "We'll sneak down to my room first and then figure out dinner. Hopefully not everyone will be home."

Avelyn smiled at his compliment, happy that he thought so higher of her. "Thank you. I bet you could too." She mentioned, "Maybe we could work together? That way we'd get to see each other more often and have more opportunity because we wouldn't have to just look here." She explained, blushing as he squeezed her hand. It was funny, she had wanted him to be her friend but... her heart beat was different around him. Lost in thought, the hybrid followed along with the other. As he pointed out his house, Avelyn looked in awe at the large building that was his home. She couldn't even imagine living somewhere like that. All she had was a very, very small section in her room that was hers. Her roommates claimed the rest... Basically giving her enough room for a bed and one hook to hang her stuff. Getting a job and upgrading to an apartment is definitely her newest goal... that and get this guy beside her to like her more. "Won't your family think we are up to no good if you sneak a girl into your room?" She asked, wanting to make sure. She didn't want his parents thinking she was trouble.

He smiled, nodding a little. "If they have room for two, I could try," the hybrid agreed, trying to picture himself as a salesclerk. Honestly, his first thought was he wouldn't be aggressive enough, but he doubted a boutique was commission based. His resume was also similarly unimpressive.
"I-I mean," he suddenly stammered, caught off guard. "I can't say they really care but that isn't my intention." His tail flopped from side to side behind him as he released her hand, only to grab his bag and start digging through for his house key. "My parents are pretty cool." He sucked in his next breath, cutting off the thought he had. Malikah was going to say 'Have you met my brother Rhys?' but she had already called him out on it a few times. Regardless, in any stretch of the imagination, Malikah was the good child. He had no thoughts or worries about those types of things.

Avelyn smiled, "I think it would be fun to work with you." Especially since she could see him more often. "We should work on our resumes at some point." She mentioned, trying not to be nervous about meeting Malikah's whole family. She watched as he dug for something, smiling as she saw the key. "I know it isn't your intention but... I thought your parents might think otherwise. I've seen movies where sneaking in someone makes people think you are up to no good... just don't want to start off on the wrong fin with your family." She explained, "I bet your parents are great.... they raised you." She smiled to him, smiling to cover her nerves. It was time... was she ready?

Malikah rolled his shoulders, not knowing exactly what to say. He wasn't really sure if someone would be home or not. "Well, come what may, yeah?" he suggested with a smile before unlocking the door.
The imp quickly kicked off his shoes, bending over to tuck them neatly into the shoe rack. "I'M HOME!" he called loudly around the corner into the main foyer before gesturing vaguely about his feet. "You can leave your shoes here, they won't walk off," he assured before flipping the lock on the door behind them.
His backpack still firmly on his back, the sound of footsteps drew his attention quickly. "Oof," Malikah grunted as the full force of his younger brother smacked into his legs. With a smile he picked up Abasi, the Freshling just small enough yet to fit on his hip.
"Is fluffy dad home?" he asked his shy sibling, but the small hybrid just shook his head, eyes wide as he stared down the stranger inside their home. After giving Abasi a gentle hug, Malikah set him down.
"This is my brother Abasi, and there's your answer," the junior informed with a smile. "No parents right now."
