He knew what glowing runes meant, especially when they flared, and baby blues went wide as the glaive came sweeping down at him. There wasn't time to do much more than brace for it before the blades connected with his shoulder, but even then, the force drove him to his knees, damn near shattering his shield as the weapon dragged down to rip across his chest. It was incredibly jarring, and for a second Henry couldn't breath, as if the air had been knocked out of him, and maybe it had. he coughed, freehand going to his shoulder as he stumbled back to his feet and moved back, features startled. "That's quite the charge." It was a compliment, but it came out a little breathy. ~ Ye got nae left, boil.~ I know. There was a very good possibility he was going to lose this, even after that strong beginning, but he wasn't going to just lay down his weapon. Victory was unlikely, but he wasn't done just yet. So he adjusted his grip on Niceven, fingers tensing against their handle, and then rushed in again to swipe at the other trainee. Dai was a little stunned, himself, when he realized how much damage that hit could do. He was actually concerned about Henry, but the battle wasn't over, so he couldn't risk stopping. "Thanks, never used it before..." And than gave a soft oof, because he felt the hit, even light as it was. He came in with another swing, but he was feeling the energy output so far, and was feeling a bit tired, and a bit bruised up, so the energy wasn't at all behind it. He hoped the battle would end soon. Quote: HP: 12/40 Dmg: 3 Charge: 1/3 Beejoux Aaaaagh please ignore the extra dice, getting my hair dyed and I couldn't see right.

Henry staggered with the hit, light as it was. His shield was tattered, and he could definitely feel it now. It made him wonder if he was going to walk away from this with bruises. It seemed likely. The tables had turned so suddenly and so considerably it was very much startling. He knew it as truth, but it didn't quite feel real just yet. Despite how worn he felt, and how obviously fragile his shield was as he rushed in again on the offensive. ~ I 'ave Fear, boil.~ "Our charge doesn't work like that," he grunted out as Nicky came around in a horizontal slash across Dais chest. "Oh?" That came out in something of a high squeak as he took the hit from Henry, and he felt the hardness of the hit. Part of his brain found himself wishing to feel something else, and he couldn't help wonder at the timing of that inappropriateness. "What is yours like?" He took a step back, feeling the way his shield felt, and a whisper from Fia indicating they were about done. This blow was likely to be his last in the fight, and he focused hard and swung, determined to give it his all... or at least, all of the energy he had left. Henry blinked at the other man, unaware that he'd spoke out loud to his weapon rather than in his own head. "Er." It was startling, and while that wasn't the main cause of his delayed reaction to Dai swinging the glaive at him again, it certainly didn't help things at all. It wasn't a surprising loss, though it had gone on substantially longer than Henry had been expecting after that bone jarring charge he'd been struck with earlier. He knew he'd landed some exceptional blows on the taller teen, so as his shield shattered under Dai's last swipe, he didn't feel too bad about loosing. The hit left him stumbling backwards until his heel caught on a bit of torn turf and he gave a startled yelp as he toppled over, landing with a soft grunt as his weapon desummoned on him. It never ceased to amaze how drained he always felt with the sudden absence of his shield, and for just a moment he wondered if it had always been that way, or if it was an accumulation of all the damage he'd taken leading up to to the break, but dampened. He was pretty sure there'd be bruises, shield or no shield.

Dai blinked at the 'er', than went wide eyed at the way Henry went down. When he was on the ground, Dai immediately unsummoned Fiachra, and darted over to Henry's side. "Are you ok? That looked VERY uncomfortable. I'm sorry, I did not mean to knock you down, Henry." He held a hand out, offering to help the other man up. His eyes were filled with concern for his new friend... On the one hand, he was proud of himself for winning, especially given that Henry had defeated Seren... On the other hand, he sort of wished Henry had won. It might have gotten him some bonus points with the other man. Maybe it was a little fickle of him, but he would rather give his attention to someone he might have a chance with, than pine over someone who would probably always see him as too young... Even if that someone was ******** gorgeous. "Let me help you up?" He asked, tone shifting to solicitous.

"I'm alright." He was pretty sure he was. A little dazed, a little bruised and unsteady, but alright. A brow twitched at the level of concern coming from Dai, and it made him chuckle as he reached out to take that offered hand. "You don't have to apologize for winning. The wards surrounding the training field keep us from getting hurt too badly, and I've defier had worst in missions." He grinned reassuringly. On his feet again he made sure he had his balance back before letting go of Dai's hand so he could brush himself off. As much of his back as he could reach, at least. "That was really impressive comeback. I thought I had you for sure." It was lightly teasing, but lacked any bite.

"I was more worried that I hit hard enough to hurt you when your shields went down." He flushed and looked sheepishly at Henry. "I'm still not used to the idea of wards and all. Shields are weird to me, too, but... I have a voice in my head reminding me it's utterly real, so I'm adjusting to them better I think?" He sighed, and reached up, under the long hair covering one ear, and adjusted the earring that was his totem. "But as long as you're ok, that's what matters." He pulled Henry up when the other man took his hand, and pulled just hard enough that Henry might find himself suddenly against Dai, than said "Woops! A little too vigorous there!" He laughed, and said "Honestly, I thought you did too! You were doing DAMN well for a bit there, especially when I made that stupid maneuver of just stopping and watching. I had no idea that such a hit could happen. I've... never used my charge before, and Fiachra wanted me to give it a try. Normally, he's... pretty damn quiet, ignores me a lot of the time, so when he speaks up, I tend to listen." He tried to surreptitiously look the other man over, to make sure he was really ok, because part of him couldn't NOT wonder if he was just saying it to make Dai feel better. But he seemed fine, and the knot of worry in his chest loosened.

It had been brief, with Henry flushing darkly as he drew he hands back from Dai's chest where they'd landed when he'd been yanked back up to his feet with enough vigor to pull him just slightly off balance. Firm, muscular in a way Henry was sure he was not. ~ Yer curious, boil.~ I, what?Niceven giggled in his head but that was all the response they'd give the poor boy before going quiet. But that was fine, because Dai was talking again, and it was hard to focus on that with another voice in his head. "It's a good charge, very direct. Mine's not like that. It takes time to work."

Dai noted the flush, and how warm the other man felt against him in that moment, but did nothing to prolong the contact. However, other then a little nervous and flushed, Henry did not freak out... There might be a chance, than, that Henry wouldn't reject a more serious advance. But that was not to be rushed, the initial dance through getting to know each other more was still ongoing, and Dai needed to find out, over time, how Henry felt about... a few things, really. He grinned, however, at Henry's comment about the charge. "I like it, I think! I don't know much about charges, yet, as that's the only one I've actually seen HAPPEN, so... I mean, it's a new experience, and a learning curve indeed. How does yours work?" His tone was interested and warm. "And what others have you seen? You have been here longer than I, so I would guess you have more experience in all of this than I do."

He frowned thoughtfully, brows creasing as he thought back to the spars he'd had. "I haven't seen that many, actually. Mostly I've just seen ones like your's. Really heavy hits." A hand crept up to rub at the back of his neck as he tried to recall if he'd seen anything else, but at the moment he was drawing a blank. "Mine is, well..." Lips twisted to the side, and he glanced up at Dai. "I don't know if you play any video games, but it reminds me of a DoT. You know, damage over time?" It was the easiest way to explain it, but he knew not everyone spent the majority of their teen years pre-Deus playing video games with the few friends they had. "I really only started seriously training and sparring more recently. So I guess I'm still a little behind." It came a with a small, self deprecating shrug.

Dai found himself wishing, internally, for a wall to lean on or some such, but for the moment, he just nodded, listening. "Hmmm good to know. I do like that heavy hit, though Fia warns me there is not a guarantee of a hit at times, just like with any other hit. I wonder what other kinds there are, though...?" He looked thoughtful and fascinated. "I wonder if the records on that are considered public or not..." His eyes focused back on Henry's face when the slightly older young man began to describe his attack. Dai bit his lip, thoughtfully, lightly worrying at the skin as he considered the gaming he had done beforehand, before nodding in a way that indicated comprehension. "Like Poison, in Pokémon, or Fallout 4. Gotcha. I can see how that might be useful, too. Rather then one big BOOM and done, it helps emphasize what you're doing." He glanced out of the corner of his eye at the sparring field for a moment, thinking he might need to come down here more often, himself, and looked back. "Hey. We all go at our own pace. I have to imagine that this place is a helluva adjustment for most people. I... certainly keep thinkin' I'm settled, and then something surprises me."

Henry could only shrug at the question about public records. Being in Mist, he did get tossed around alot between divisions, but he seldom saw much from Death. Probably because he wasn't good at the paperwork, no patience for it. "You could probably ask someone from Death, they might know.". It was the only but of advice he could offer on that front. Pale features lit up as Dai mentioned games Henry was very familiar with, and he parked right up, smiling. "Yeah. I mean I don't use it much in one on one situations, but it's nice in a group. Do you game?" It'd be a point in common. At pacing he shrugged again, hands moving back to skip into his back pockets. "I guess." Dai was trying to make him feel better about how he's don't his first year in the island, and he could appreciate that, but he knew he hadn't tried to push himself as much as he should have. Overwhelmed or not, it really want an excuse when others were depending on him to pull his own weight. All at once he was aware that they were just standing in the middle of the training field now, and a small frown tugged at his lips as he looked around them. There were picnic tables, they could sit, but he'd already sorry if imposed himself on the taller not, and he wasn't sure if he should do it again.

Dai gave a warm, low chuckle, and grinned at Henry, then winked. "I am Death, Henry." He paused, frowned thoughtfully, then said "No. Wait. I am in Death. That was not my best choice of phrasing. I am not Death, and I would not want to BE Death. But I am in Death. Best to keep that in mind." He shook his head at himself, and laughed at himself. "But I'm still fairly new, so I'm still learning what is permitted and what isn't." "Yeah, I can see how that would help. It would be good against something big, so it would help weaken an already difficult enemy." And with that Dai's grin got bigger. "Yes! I love gaming." A pause, then "Well, when I can. Right now... All I brought with me was my laptop, and I haven't been able to pay to have it Runic'd yet. I don't even know how much it'll run me. Once I do that, though, I plan to save up to get a PS4, and get it runic'd, then, obviously, something to attach it to... And I'll see from there." He sighed. "But gotta do the PS4 next cause Cassie, the first person in Death I met, who helped me get my feet, got me Horizon: Zero Dawn for Christmas... I'd played it partway before getting recruited... Maybe I'll get a Switch at some point. D'ya still think the rumor about a core Pokémon for Switch'll come true?" "Nothing wrong with pacing yourself, getting yourself figured out. Better that than like... going out, and getting killed because you thought you were ready to PVP, but you weren't." He arched a brow at the other man. "Everyone has their own pace, and as long as you were doin' the tasks they assigned you, you were at least pulling your workload." He glanced around, when he saw Henry doing so, and wondered for a moment, before he suddenly felt the way the sweat from fighting had dried on his skin, and how much his muscles ached. "I wanna shower, but after... Wanna come hang in my dorm? I don't have traditional seats, other than at my desk, but I have some comfy floor pillows if you're cool with it. I'm B84, if so..." He shifted, and unbuttoned his shirt a little, trying to make himself more comfortable. "If not, it's cool, but I'm enjoying talking with you."

"Getting things modded is so expensive," he lamented with a knowing sigh. "Worth it though. I have a 3DS I got last year. Cami and I wanted to play Pokemon Sun and Moon together." A little smile appeared when he said her name, but it didn't linger long. "Zero Dawn looks really amazing. I didn't get a chance to play it. I dunno about Pokemon for Switch though, I hadn't heard anything about it before I'd been recruited, and it's not the easiest, keeping up with that kind of thing." At least not if you didn't know who to ask. At the mention of a shower Henry was suddenly aware of the drying sweat on his own skin and he fought off a grimace before nodding. "Yeah, that's probably a good idea." A wash and a change sounded like a great idea, and frankly, so did hanging out with Dai some more. He was enjoying himself as well. Baby blues had dipped to Dai's hand when he'd unbuttoned a couple of the buttons on his shirt, but they snapped up again. "Do we want, um, snacks? I can get something from the vending machines?"
