What was Caleb going to do? He was getting closer, Caleb had already hugged him, but then the other was jumping back and talking about food and the doorbell had rung. Leaning back into the couch breathing heavy, his cheeks warm, he let his eyes drift closed for a moment. The other had even though his hair, he must really like it. He hadn't thought too much of it when it had gotten done, though he did admittedly like it a lot, he didn't think it would get this sort of reaction from anyone.

The food smelled good, pizza almost always smelled good though, he knew though the oil and grease that most pizza had would bother his stomach later. It was worth it though, not as worth it as when it happened with Chinese food though, but it wasn't something he'd ever mentioned in the past. He had never wanted to be seen as picky about what he ate, especially when he made exceptions for Chinese food all the time. So he opened the pizza box and moved to find the tv remote.

"Ummm...anything you want to see? Anything you haven't seen on tv?" Xi-Wang called out as he turned on the tv and waited for the other to respond, and to return with plates. The drink he'd only had a few sips from was picked up and a gulp from the can was taken.

Walking back to the couch, Caleb sat down and held out a plate for the other boy. “We never finished that one show we were watching, did we?”

He was closer to Xi, not close enough to be touching him, but the distance wasn’t too far, and there wasn’t anything to show that he didn’t want that gap to close. If they ended up resting against one another while eating and watching pizza…so be it.

If not, oh well. At least they had talked and Xi was going to hang out and…they would be friends again.

Caleb grabbed a slice of pizza and cuddled back into the couch, sighing and taking a bite, his eyes straying from the television to Xi’s face for a moment. This was nice. This was…familiar. It might not be…perfect…but he damn near felt better than he thought he would be feeling anytime soon.
“I’m glad you came over, Xi. Thank you.”

Taking the offered plate with a softly spoken 'thank you' the darker haired male took a seat as he grabbed a slice of pizza to put onto his plate. "No, we didn't. We stopped watching at some point." He couldn't even remember when but he knew it had stopped. He couldn't even think of why they had stopped watching. It just seemed like one more thing which had ended for no apparent reason, or at least a reason unknown to him.

"Do you remember where we left off?" Assuming, since he brought it up, that Caleb wanted to watch that with him. The idea was nice, he'd liked the show in fact.

"You're welcome..it was the least I could do." He sort of owed the other, a lot. Settling in to eat, moving his plushie so he didn't get it dirty, he took his time eating. Not only did he not want to make a mess but he had learned, over the years, that the faster he ate greasy, oily, foods the worst it was when it came back to attack him later. Little burps of acidic tasting oil were never fun, the taste and the burn they caused, he'd do what he could to make it easier on himself since it was unavoidable.

“Yeah, I think I do…and if I don’t, I’m sure the app will.” Caleb reached over and took the remote from Xi, flipping through the channels and menu until the show was pulled up. With a sigh he settled back into the couch, perhaps just a bit closer than before, eating his pizza and spending the afternoon with his ex. There were worse ways to spend a day…Caleb could think of a million of them…and this was nice.

It was relaxing and it was safe and perhaps they would be able to finish up this season of the show and…

Maybe Xi would be able to come back to watch the second season someday.
Finally, Caleb shifted slightly so that he was just touching the other male, the tips of their shoulders connecting. He relaxed fully at the contact and let his eyes close, savoring the moment.

If only it could last.

But…he had it for now and…that would be enough.

Oh, the app. He sort of had forgotten about that. Watching Caleb take the remote and handle things he took the first bite from his slice of pizza, he'd regret it later and he knew it. Feeling the couch dip as Caleb sat turn he turned towards him for a moment before his attention was on the tv, as the show was starting up. This felt...nice though different without a doubt, it wasn't a bad thing though.

It was when Caleb shifted and was touching him, something he was surprised by, that he turned and stared silently. He was just...lost and maybe unsure what was going on, especially when Caleb didn't move. It was odd, though maybe it was just him, but being this close...there was something still there and he honestly couldn't deny it - at least to himself. How could he? They'd been dating and it wasn't like the other suddenly wasn't attractive. But he turned away finally, slowly, and setting his plate down, in order to grab his drink.

Xi-Wang was also sure he couldn't, and wouldn't, act on whatever he was feeling because....because it felt like the wrong thing to do and because they were...friends now, at least he was certain that's what Caleb figured they were...as well as exes.

Caleb had been too focused on finding the show again to notice Xi’s stare, but when he pulled away, there was a small disconnect and he felt the small pocket of hope that had begun to swell softly puncture.

So they were over for good. This was fine. He had tried to initiate something, but it wasn’t a big deal.

He could handle friends.

By the time Xi had sat back with his soda, Caleb was nestled into the corner of the couch again, legs curled up. The rest of the afternoon would be good. They would watch their show and perhaps even meet up again soon…regardless…
They were friends. And that was enough.

It would have to be.
