Minerva giggled "of course not silly, I was told not to go here alone, and I had no reason to come here before. I didn't know there was a huge library here," She looked up at Puck with a smile and reached up for his hand to pull him down "come sit with me?" She asked, her feet swinging slightly as her indicated the book on her lap "I found really cool stuff." she said with a nod "and something for you too".
The book currently in her lap explained how if you learned to hover, you just needed more energy to push yourself, except you wouldn't physically push yourself, it was more of a state of mind, like walking off a cliff and expecting yourself to stay up. Minerva wasn't exactly sure, she'd just skimmed over it so far.
There also sat a single book beside her not in one of the many stacks, one she had found for Puck that might help him unlock hidden powers, or something along those lines. Now that book confused her, but she still kept it, it might help Puck after all.

"It makes up most of this floor of the castle, as it happens," he told her indiferently, "so I knew it'd only be a matter of time until we found it." He yelped as she yanked him down. "Why not?" he asked sarcastically, "Since I'm already down here, might as well." Puck sat cross-legged and leaned his chin on his palm.
"Something for me? In those books? Not likely." Nonetheless, he peered at the book in her hands curiously. After a moment, he sat up. "Humph. That may be how it works for humans, but for me, it's a totally diferent princible. I don't rely on logic and state of mind. In act, it's precisely because I don't believe in gravity that I can float. Perhaps..." He leaned over again though, failing to hide his obvious growing intrest. However, his intrest was short-lived and his attention was drawn to the single book beside Minerva. "What's that one doing over there? Not to your liking?"

Minerva rolled her eyes but nodded "well you're special, so obviously you're going to have special ways of doing things."
Reaching to the book beside her she picked it up and handed it to Puck "It's for you, it was one of the first things I found. It's got stuff for hidden powers, and unlocking... things, and stuff. I thought you might enjoy looking through it, even though you're not one for learning through books, you should give it a shot." Nodding now with a smile on her face she turned back to her book.
"Don't bash something just because it's not your method, actually it is. You don't believe in gravity, and you can fly... I don't, and I can't fly." She said with a grin as she poked his forehead gently and stuck her tongue out playfully "Lookie here, I think I just won".

"Sounds...okay. Thanks," Puck thanked Minerva, not used to thanking anyone before since no one had really given him anything worth one before. He had mostly been given angry words and irritated threats in the past, and was touched by her thoughtfulness. He realized it must have shown, though, and immediately hid his face behind the pages of the book.
"I wasn't 'bashing', whatever that is. I just don't like it. Don't be silly, all mortals believe in gravity!" He looked up from his book resentfully at her claim. "You just proved that yesterday when you were afraid to jump because you were scared you'd fall. Don't give me that, you didn't win anything!"

Minerva shook her head "nuh uh, not everyone does. If you were raised not knowing about gravity, never falling or anything... then naturally if you walked where there was no ground, you wouldn't expect to fall... however, you'd have to grow up in a box for that to happen." She said as she turned the page.
"And so of course I'm going to be scared of walking off a branch, I mean. I don't feel like falling and breaking myself or dying or anything. Which I could if I fell the wrong way, and that's a scary thought."
She groaned as she read more, she had to believe that she could stay up, but that's creepy. So pretty much... she had to shut her eyes and walk off of something... say a bookshelf, and if you don't know that it ends, you'll continue.
Blinking slightly at the words she read, she looked up from her book to Puck. "I totally won! You proved it when you said 'you didn't believe in gravity,' So it is a mental thing, see?"

"Well, excuse me," He cried indignantly, his hands on his hips. "but I did NOT grow up in a box. Even if someone did grow in a box, they'd be stuck to the bottom of it, so there." He folded his arms across his chest and stuck his tounge out to return hers.
Mortals are too afraid of everything...death, pain...they become such cowards. It's a shame, really. Then again, I'm immortal, so I wouldn't know." He smirked arrogently. (brb)

Minerva rolled her eyes and stood up "I want accusing you, I was using it as an example, so there." She grinned as she took two steps back and then ran, jumping off the ledge. "Weeee," she landed on the neighbouring bookshelf with ease.
"But what if the box was turned upside down when you were placed in it? Then technically you'd be stuck to the top." She frowned as she grabbed another few books, scanning the titles "well, I'm glad you're immortal Puck, because it means you wont have to worry about the things I do." she paused "it can be really scary." she said quietly as she opened a book and began to skim the pages. A book on making a tornado? How weird... Minerva put it back and reached for another book.

"No, 'cause then the top would be the bottom. Argh! don't confuse me with 'technicalities'; I'm not a mortal so I don't know how it works for them." He tugged at his long, silky locks in frustration.
When Minerva told Puck he wouldn't have to worr about the things she did, he became confused, as well as a little distressed. "What do you mean? How does that have anything to do with...you're not going to do anything drastic, now are you?" His pale blue eyes scrutinized hers, trying to read her thoughts. However, she picked up a book and looked at it instead. Puck wondered if she was purposely avoiding eye contact.
He flew around in front of her and closed the book in her hands, peering into her face hidden under her huge hat. "Minerva, what are you saying?" He didn't even bother to hide his concern.

"Bad things can happen, and they hurt, and you could die and be gone forever." She said before Puck closed the book in her lap, startling her.
"When that Marl-whatever kid was screaming at the Double guy, he reminded me of a book I found, it was scary. I opened it to the middle and some guy got hurt, for no reason. Someone just attacked him with a knife and then he died. Then I got to thinking, well that could happen to anyone, except you. It just scares me. No I'm not going to do anything, but it doesn't mean it wont happen." She looked up at Puck before looking back down again, almost ashamed of her thoughts as she dipped her hat to cover her eyes.
Minerva bit her lip as she traced the big swirly lettering on the book "I know I'm sounding stupid and pathetic, but it's true... magic wont always save me, and you wont always be there to catch me. I guess I just envy you, 'cause you don't have to go through the scary stuff, you're automatically protected."

The child of Oberon listened intently, thinking on her words. It wasn't in his nature to keep quiet, but as she spoke, his words filled his thoughts too much for him to speak.
Finally, he said, "Forgive me for what I said. Mortals may fear those things, but they have reason to. I shouldn't have called them cowards. You're right, of course...that magic and I can't always help you...and it is true, that the world is a cruel place to most..." He paused, tipping her hat up again to look at her, and she could see he was serious. That he meant every word he said.
"However, I'm afraid just the same as you are. Perhaps not of death, but that's the least of fears. If you were to stab me, I wouldn't die...but I'd be wounded. And the pain of that wound would be burned in my memory forever...even if it heals. Immortals cannot forget the same as mortals. And so...things like love and emotion...we try to distance ourselves from those as much as possible, so that we aren't injured. Because that very thing is our weakest point. For us, they're a million times worse than a physical wound. That's why we think it's silly for mortals to have feelings. We try to hate emotions so we don't envy not having them, see?" He was silent for a while.
"Our hearts don't heal same as yours. They're broken forever. And forever is a very long time. Even if a mortal and an immortal love each other, and they share each other's feelings; even if they manage to overcome the obstacles love gives them, there's always the obstacle of time. And sooner or later, it catches up to the mortal." He spoke quietly now.
"Listen, Minerva. There are a thousand things worse than death. Immortals who are pulled into the world of humans find that if they become too attatched and their heart is crushed as a result, the pain becomes too much for them to bear and their very dearest wish is to be able to die."

"But... that's so sad, that's not fair!" She cried out before she immediately covered her mouth with her hands, slowly she removed them "But... does that mean that by me being nice to you, I'm going to hurt you in the end? I don't want to hurt you Puck, but you shouldn't have to be alone. Not ever."
Minerva paused as she placed the book on her lap beside her and frowned "you're my friend and I'm not going to leave you alone because I'm a mortal, but I don't want to hurt you by making you feel things." Another pause "is there a way to become immortal? Because there should be. That means that you could find someone you want to be with forever... then you could be together forever."
"Nobody should wish for death, that's horrible. To be in so much pain that you wish to die, emotionally or physically... it's wrong and it's not fair." Minerva hit the book next to her with her fist as a single tear slid down her cheek.
"I wish I could stay like this and never grow up, then I could stay and be your friend forever, that'd be awesome. Maybe there's a potion or a spell, y'think? So then you'll never have to hurt or be alone... maybe?" She asked quietly, as if her dreams would shatter if she spoke of them out loud.

He chuckled a little, trying not to upset Minerva, but it came out more sad and quiet than he had intended. "Yes, well, I'm used to it. I'm one of the unlucky ones who was drawn away from Avalon into the world of mortals...I should have known then iI was doomed, but I liked it too much to think it was bad for me. The mortals never cared to have anything of a relationship, so I didn't bother either, except to tick them off every now and then for fun. I never really felt anything much for any of them. I'm used to being lonely, remember?" He circled her slowly in the air, drifting past like a leaf some breeze had caused to drift astray.
"By being nice to me, you've entranced, enlightened, and doomed me. But it was bound to happen anyway, I should think." His voice was more meloncholy now, as if he felt his days as a free being were over. But perhaps he recieved something better in return.
"I know I'm your friend, and I suppose you're mine too now, but it's too late for me not to feel things. Don't you see? They're all in here now, and I won't ever be able to forget them." Puck pointed to his head meaningfully. "I won't be able to forget you, or Tymiko, or anyone else I've met. Though...that may not be such a bad thing. It all depends. some of it I'm happy to have known, others I could do without. But so far, I have no wish to die. And that is why you shouldn't worry about me. If you had at all, that is." He smiled crookedly and winked.
He looked stunned at her next question. "A way to become immortal? You know, now that I think of it...I have no idea. I know there was one human who wished to achieve that...immortality...though I have no idea wha became of him. Shame, really. I think I had given him a choice...oh, but that's all blurred now..." He shook his head, as if trying to clear it.
Xanatos and all memories that went with him were locked up at the back of his mind. Being an immortal, he couldn't be rid of them, but at the moment he couldn't clearly recall them either. It was still just a blur.
"Maybe if you read enough books, you'll unlock the secret," he said in such a way one could not tell if he was joking or not. "But I highly suggest you don't. Being immortal can be a gift as well as a curse. It is said that a mortal heart cannot handle being forced to last for all eternity... knowing generations of people; watching them live and die; having emotions would be too much to bear. They are already as connected to the mortal world as they can be, and once connected, they can't escape. Being immortal will only make matters worse when they're forced to remember it all. Don't do it, Minerva. It would only make you unhappy, and I can't let that happen to you because of some silly friendship with me. There are pleanty of others you can befriend out there." He gestured vaugely to the sun-lit window.
"Death may not be as horrible as you think. But then," he sighed. "I wouldn't know. It may not seem fair, but that's how the world is. You said it's not fair to mortals...well, it isn't fair to immortals either. So they're even. Which, technically," he told her, emphasising the word she used earlier, "is fair."
Puck couldn't bear to watch the girl cry. Especially not over him. He couldn't bring himself to turn away, though either. And only this morning, it would have been so easy. Just to leave her there in the library to her misery.
"Minerva, please. It's not...it's not that simple. Not for anyone. Not even for Tymiko and Peter. They live on an island where they never grow up, did you know? I've visted it a few times; they live happily and they're the best of friends she and that boy, along with others on the island. But that would never be able to cure Tymiko's lonliness. It'd only make it worse." He hated to point this out; that no one could live ahppily or perfectly. Perhaps there was a place; but it wasn't anywhere he knew. Neverland was onl a plesant place because it made people forget their worries. It didn't effect Puck because he couldn't forget anything. Ever.
The boy turned away from Minerva toward the window where he sat cross-legged beside her, brushing a cheek against the back of his hand. It was salty and wet as it came away, caused by the single tear he had shed.

"You're not unlucky though, you're very lucky... if you think about it, you can get some bad emotions, but you'll also get good ones, along with good memories, ones you wont want to forget. And don't be silly, of course I'm going to worry about you, you're my friend and you're important, I can't just brush you off."
As Puck brushed away the tear, she felt a small smile appear on her face. "It's the choice of the individual though, if somebody wants to be with you forever and ever, and they seek out that information, would you turn them away?" She turned slightly to face Puck "I have old thoughts memories and feelings, I can't remember them but I know they're there. And most of them aren't pleasant, I know that. So if when I'm with you everything's alright and fun, why can't I try to make that last forever?"
"I'm not even sure when Zukin and Rogue will go, Rogue's some kind of angel-like thing, only half human... and Zukin's... something else..." She said as she drifted into her own thoughts for a bit before she paused "And... well if someone did become immortal, of course they'd be sad and lonely after they watched people they knew die... but it'd be worth it, if you weren't alone anymore..."

"True, very true...just as I can't say truthfully that I'd want to forget all my emotions if I could. One of them, though, I know I'd definately want to lose, and that's the one you're making me get when you worry, because I'm not used to having people worry about me, and then I feel...guilty, I suppose it's called." He shrugged, trying to seem casual. It was becoming increasingly difficult to conceal his feelings, but he felt if he didn't give some effort now, he'd just fall apart.
"No...I suppose I wouldn't turn them away...but I'd despise myself for eternity if that person became unhappy because of me. And I can hardly imagine someone who'd want to be with me that long...not if they really know what I was like." From the glin in his eyes, it was almost as if he were challenging her, daring her to say she thought she knew just what he was like. Becasue he was sure she didn't.
"Because when you're with me it won't always be alright and fun," he tried reasoning. "You could go insane with all emotions of those memories. It could cause you to lose your mind, and you shouldn't throw that away so eagerly. Have you ever once considered what you may regret? Including if you decided to become immortal for me? Think, about it, witch girl." Puck turned to face her. "That would destroy two immortal hearts."

"Regrets are useless." Minerva stated as she stood up and started to put a few books away that she wasn't planning on reading. "You can't change the past, not even with magic, so why bother regretting anything."
Minerva grabbed a book and flipped through it, reading a few words and storing it in her memory before placing it back on the shelf. "Coulds, mights and what if's. I do what I want and nothing else, if the thought was stupid and I get hurt... then I'll cry about it and move on. If the decision is huge, then I'm not going to make it by flipping a coin." Walking back to Puck she ruffled his hair and winked at him before 'poofing' to the first bookshelf and organizing all the books over there.
"I'm not saying I know anything about you, but I'm willing to find out. Guess what Puck, that's my decision and nobody elses. Don't bother feeling guilty over something involving me, I'm not worth it and it'll only mess with your new emotions."
