Ever shook his head just a little bit, though -- not exactly disagreeing, but not agreeing either. His eyes flicked away again and around like he really did expect trouble to come creeping out of the woodworks. "Just because he wanted something else doesn't mean he...." Ever had to pause, to gather his thoughts, rolling a hand at Melvin. "He's Rep. Just because he can't have the thing doesn't mean someone else can."

He looked over at him. "I'm very aware how territorial and possessive Rep is. I just don't think it would have been serious. He isn't the type to mess around and if he has I wasn't the type to be locked down due to my own anxieties about that kind of thing."
Thr waiter came and Melvin ordered. Once they left he resumed.
"I never wanted to date Rin when she first brought it up. I was very against it but she twisted my arm. I know better now not to do that."
It was better for the other person.

"To twist peoples' arms, or to argue?" He settled his chin into his palm, watching Melvin thoughtfully -- relaxed, at least, Ever didn't seem that stressed by this, despite his arguments about Rep coming to kick his a**. He shrugged just a tiny bit, raising his eyebrows. "Or a little bit of both?"

He stared back. "To let someone twist my arm. I shouldn't have just....let that happen. I don't think it was a good start to how it should have gone." And sometimes he wondered how many good points there had been.
"Do you think I argue too much?" He asked.

"I wouldn't say too much." It made Ever grin, all at once -- sudden and sharp, like he couldn't help it. It was teasing, definitely, and he tried to smooth fingers across his face to half-hide it, considering Melvin. "You're very direct. You know what you want. And you...uh...make a case for it."

"That's a nice way of saying I talk to much and don't know when to shut up. You shouldn't be the first to say it." He said with a slow smile as he glanced. He wanted a drink, and he tapped his fingers a moment on the table before looking back at him.
"And I guess not direct enough when it counts. Took me this long to text you and even that didn't work as direct as it could."

Ever rumbled a little, still grinning behind his hand -- thinking about it absently -- and then he shrugged a little bit. "I wasn't all that direct with you, either. Sometimes you confuse me; I can't tell if you're strong or fragile and the fact is probably a mix of both. But I definitely don't want to freak you, and sometimes..." He hesitated a little, the expression softening. "Well, I feel like maybe I do, a bit."

"Aren't we all a mix of both?" He inquired back.
He listened, his eyes searching Ever's expression. "You surprise me sometimes. That's all. I don't know your mannerisms and your tones. I take a lot of things as how they are drlivered for me. I don't want you to feel uncomfortable around me and I'm sure you are. You smile yet you seem like you're on edge. Is....there something I can do to help with that?" He asked.

There was a long breath of silence while Ever considered that -- really thought about it, instead of breezing past. He shifted a little where he sat, eyes on Melvin's face instead of looking away. "...it's possible that the fact you make me uncomfortable is what interests me. Does that help?"

He frowned a little at that. "I don't really know how that helps. I just thought people would want to be comfortable and relaxed around someone they want to be close with."
"But...if that is what you like then I suppose I'll continue as I am. But I'd like you to tell me if I go too far. Past a border."
They were given their drinks and he thanked the waiter before looking back.
"What..does interest you? In a person you wanna hook up with?" He asked.

"Besides a d**k?" It was easy, teasing -- partly to see if it would fluster Melvin a bit, or if it would throw him off. A little nudge to set him off-balance, because Ever didn't mind being a little bit uncomfortable. "Something challenging, I guess." It was the more honest answer, his shoulders rolled in a shrug as he reached for his drink, to twist it idly against the table. "And I've always enjoyed a good fight, for better or worse."

He did look surprised for a moment and then wonfered if ehat this was was just that. Then again, wasn't it just the physical and the acceptance and mutual cinsent of attraction? Just a d**k.
"Seems a bit strange to me. You come off easy going and seem to want to be around people like that and yet you want a struggle."
He turned the ring on his finger around a few times. " I don't tend to fight back. Not unless it's for fun intimacy."

"You do fight back, at least a little." He hesitated over the phrasing again, trying to find the right words for just what it was he enjoyed. Maybe a fight wasn't right, exactly. Challenge had been closer. "You dig and you demand. If I ended up with someone easy-going, we'd get bored too quickly."

He stilled at the word, swallowing as Saliva breathed into his mind and his mind drifted to upturned dirt and a shovel.
"I guess you could say I'm like that. I don't like leaving things as is. If something is worth my interest I wanna know more." He said nervously as he turned the ring on his finger again.
"I like that you don't get too exasperated when I ask things. That you care enough to hold a conversation that doesn't feel empty or say things just to keep things nice. I don't like just the emptiness of that. That glue doesn't hold."

"Yeah, well, no need to worry about that. If I care, I'll say something." He thought about that a little, leaning back, as their food arrived -- his own a mirror of Melvin's. Maybe they should have just shared, considering the slow way Ever reached for a fork to poke at his meal. "But probably, I wouldn't care that much anyway. I'm mostly immune to words getting under my skin."
