Secretly satisfied by their mystery heckler's acknowledgment, Kent turned back to Dai, his focus sharpening a bit. "Consider it an appointment." He smirked. Unfortunately, this time when he cut through the air, he overbalanced slightly as Linus hit Dai's shield. Kenton lurched forward and went down on one knee in the mud, wincing as it started soaking into his pants. He had smirked too soon, and now he had to hope he had enough time to recover before he was beaten.

"Sounds like a plan. You should have me in your phone, so text me?" Dai winced at the hit, hearing the voice of his weapon whispering about how he was getting low on shield, and he needed to try harder. Dai was not sure how he could go about doing that, but he would do his best. He moved forwards, in a chopping motion, though he found the angle caused by Kenton's being on one knee much more challenging then he expected.

Jesse arrived to see who was fighting in the mud. He crossed his arms, and peered at the fighters. Interesting weapons these people had. Here he was with a lasso and then there were such, mysteriously frightening weapons. With a half shrug he tipped his hat back and just watched, still not feeling that it was right to yell at anyone. Instead he just put his fingers in his mouth and whistled, kind of a global.. go get em kind of thing.

Gretchen had needed to stop back in at the dorms to once again swap out her prosthetic, but the match was still in full swing as she jogged up to the side of the ring, so she hopefully hadn't missed too much. "Come on Kenton! You can do it!" Hands cupped around her mouth, she shouted excitedly to tall trainee she'd felt responsible for since she'd found him stepping out of his pod. "Give'm one for!" She didn't know the other trainee, but she was pretty sure she recognized him from Dare night.

He might have faltered further had he not heard the arrival of two new observers. Their encouragement spurred Kent to regain his footing and swing slightly wildly, connecting with Dai, but only just. A few more solid hits and I'm done. Watch your face.It was all the warning he had to back away and be a little more careful. He spared a wave and a smile for Gretchen as he did. "I will," he said, replying to both his opponent and his weapon.

Dai looked determined as well, not wanting to fail in front of his sister. He took the next hit, and grinned. "Glad to hear it, then." He moved back, trying to get out of easier range of the other man's blade. He then made a darting step towards Kenton, using the glaive to make a stabbing motion.

Kent watched the forward jab thing Dai had going and tried to imitate it. It didn't go too well.

Dai took the smallish hit with an oof, and then slid to the side. He swung his glaive back, and then in, hitting harder this time.

The same hit he had taken in stride before almost made his legs buckle now. Ego demanded he remain on his feet, and he even struck back with some strength, but Kent could tell the fight was almost over. As Linus had instructed, he brought his left forearm up a little, preparing to guard his face before anything else.

Dai took the grazing hit and moved back, his arms pulling back to make another stabbing maneuver. He aimed low, though not so low as to be ungentlemanly, and struck. Smerdle Your wish, my command. -Shot-

As it turned out, he needn't have bothered. Dai took advantage of his fear and hit him at the perfect height to gut a man, a thought Kenton only circled back to later when he was alone. At the moment, he was more concentrated on how strange it felt to lose his weapon's protection. Vulnerable, and a little cold. He stepped away again, lowering the sword to his side just before it disappeared. "I yield... I think." He smiled. "Yes. Good fight."

Dai looked almost stunned to realize he HAD won, and unsummoned Fiac. "Ah... Yes. Thank you. It was a very good fight. I expect I'll be off in the next round, myself. It was a good lesson in battling, at the very least." He held out his hand for the other man to shake, controlling the very strong urge to cheer in excitement. Dai was, despite his general apparent maturity, still a seventeen year old, after all.

"Oh no." It was over before Gretchen had time to really process it, Kenton stepping back and away and desummoning his weapon. It had the woman frowning as she lifted the rope that comprised the ring, striding towards the boys still standing at the center. "You okay, Kenton?" He was fine, at least physically. A little bruised maybe, but that was it. The wards would have made sure of that. Mostly she worried over his ego. To the younger man, she offered a bright smile. "Gratz on the win."

"It was a good lesson indeed." He shook, his smile persisting. "I'll see you around. Good luck in your next fight."He raised a hand to the spot Dai had last hit as he turned to Gretchen, finding a shallow, barely noticeable cut there, as well as a small slice in his shirt. That was probably what hurt the most. Kent chuckled, poking his finger into the hole. "I'm, um, all right? That was... bracing. Far more difficult than I thought it would be." He waved at Jesse, Tzei, even Seren as he stepped out of the ring, accepting his loss with surprising grace. As it turned out, any notoriety was good notoriety for a Polk.

Dai grinned one last time at Kenton, and gave his friend a bright smile, then darted over to wear Tzei and Seren were watching. "I won! I can't believe I WON!" He grabbed Seren, picking her up for a spinning hug, then set her down, and... gave Tzei a shoulder hug, because he realized he did not know her THAT well, yet, and it might come across as a little too familiar with someone he barely knew. "This was my first battle, ever, really!" He beamed between the two women, unsure what to do, beyond be elated. __________________________________________________________________ Seren was cheering as Dai had fought, and bounced in excitement at that last hit he had made. When he came over, she opened her mouth to congratulate him, but was far too swiftly scooped up and spun around to think for a moment. Once she was down, she paused for a second to regather her thoughts, then laughed and clapped Dai on the shoulder. "You did me proud, Dai! You gotta come over and tell Rhys all about it."
