"Succeed, more like," he quipped back with a flash of teeth. That hammer was going to leave some mighty tender bruises when this was done, wards or no wards. They seemed to be attracting a lot of attention; Dakota had shown up now with a chair and a bottle booze he was nursing from like a soda can, and the Life laughed. "Feeling better, Gramps?" As he said it he swung again, putting his shoulder into it this time as he took a few quick steps towards Jordan. HP: 42 DMG: 7

Jordan let himself glance away briefly to see who Zeke was addressing as Gramps. The fact that it was Dakota - who was sipping out of a bottle of something amber with a straw, of all things - startled a laugh out of him. It was something he'd never seen Dakota do, but it didn't seem unlike him, entirely. He didn't try to dodge out of the way of the ax, choosing instead to take the force of it full-on as he stepped into it to bring Ferros up in a powerful underhand swing. HP: 42 Dmg: 13

Dakota made an obnoxious sound while he sipped.
"I can feel life returning to these decrepit bones of mine." Ohhh heavy hitters on both ends. Dakota wiggled in his seat again.
"Came to watch the youngin's go at each other...." He said in his best old man voice, even though Jordan was older AND more experienced hunter life.

Rep had seen the fliers for the tournament, but this time he'd chosen not to enter. Fighting had become something he'd learned was best not to do on Deus for a lot of reasons, keeping the amount of potential calamities to a minimum. The fact of the matter was that really there wasn't all that much joy to be found in warded battles for him, preferring the very real urgency of danger and life or death to anything social and false, to him if they weren't fighting for their life, they weren't fighting.
Regardless of his own opinions on battle, he was more than happy to watch Jordan work. Jordan was more easygoing, more laid back in the face of everything, and these days the island as a whole was calmer and less dead set against letting him exist while being in contact with him. Things felt almost the way they had been once upon a time.
Speaking of once upon a time, he was surprised to see Dakota watching the match and couldn't help but smile a bit. It had been a while.
He didn't head over to where Melvin and October were at first, but instead simply hovered away from everyone else, dressed - as usual - in a pair of denims and hiking boots, without a shirt and with his long wild hair just casually sprawling across his shoulders and a plethora of bling around his neck.
He didn't yell support to Jordan, just knew - or hoped - he'd be seen nearby and that his very presence would silently say everything that needed to be said to the other hunter.

He saw the blow coming, and as he stood, arms out stretched with the follow through of his own attack, there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it but mentally brace for it. Again, it felt like he was being struck by a small automobile, and this time he very nearly went down. Only slamming his ax down let him catch his balance. A loud clang of metal on concrete, boots scraping the gravelly. He grunted, arm coming up to rub at his jaw. A very brief second to orientate himself again, and then back into motion. He hefted the ax up, drawing it back along his shoulder to wind up, and then swung, diagonal across Jordan's torso. HP: 29 DMG: 9

Jordan caught a flash of red out of the corner of his eye, and a quick glance confirmed that he had more of an audience now. A small and almost secretive smile flitted across his face. Zeke had managed to catch himself, and came back in for the attack; Jordan didn't quite manage to get out of the way in time, and caught the ax's edge across his chest, briefly reminding him of the very one-sided fight long ago now that had given him his scar. He was considerably tougher now, though. He pivoted and brought Ferros around, aiming for Zeke's shoulder. HP: 33 Dmg: 7

A hand scrapping against the pavement was all that kept Zeke from smacking his head against the ground as he fell, but he didn't stay down long. A little dazed, he rolled back up to his feet as quickly as he could, shaking his head to clear it. Definitely bruised later. "That thing is unforgiving," he'd say with a certain amount of wary admiration, gesturing with his ax at the hammer. And then charging in again, turning the ax with his whole body to bring it around and down across Jordan's shoulder. HP: 22 DMG: 8

"Thanks," Jordan said, with a quick grin. "You're not doing so bad yourself." The fight felt pretty even to him. He wasn't doing badly, but neither was his opponent. The axe struck his shoulder, and he brought Ferros up and around to push the axe away again, crossing the handles and shoving, then following up by pressing in to smack the hammer into Zeke's side again. HP: 25 Dmg: 9

Dakota felt a disturbance in the force, he gaze turning to the giant redheaded Sun hunter.
"Oi. Rep." The man gestured the other over, shaking the whiskey at him. "Would you like a shot for every hit they land on each other?"

Jesus Christ, that's hard.Zeke wheezed as the force of the hammer sent him stumbling back a few steps, his free hand coming up to his side. Thank God for shields. There's no way he would have been walking away from this otherwise. "Thank you, though I can safely say I wouldn't want to go up against that if Lagertha wasn't here to keep my bones from smashing." He gestured to the hammer again before he took another hard swing at Jordan, but he could tell he was starting to slow down, arms growing tired and body sore. HP: 13 DMG: 5

"He says he should be bigger, but I think we'd have trouble maneuvering if he were," Jordan said dryly. The ax drove him back a step, but he returned the favor, although he misjudged the distance slightly, a skimming hit rather than a full-on blow. HP: 20 Dmg: 3

The grazing shot would have been a lot more appreciated closer to the beginning of their fight, when he wasn't already tired and sore. As it was, even the lighter hits made him wince, his shield getting thin at this point. "I was surprised with Lagertha's size, I think she's over compensating." To which the valkyrie huffed indignantly. He retaliated, but it wasn't much more effective than the blow he'd just received. HP: 10 DMG: 4

"You better believe we've heard that joke too." They could feel their shield thinning, worn down with each strike. It wouldn't be long now; the only question was whose shield would go first. They'd be feeling this too. Jordan swung Ferros in a quick, short arc, aiming for Zeke's legs. HP: 16 Dmg: 3

It took his legs right out from under him and lay him out on the pavement with a startled grunt. He blinked, definitely feeling it now, but this late in the game, he didn't have the luxury of taking a second to collect his bearings. He lashed out, blindly, swinging the ax in retaliation and Jordan's legs. Tit for tat. HP: 7 DMG: 7
