She was a skilled fighter, that much was clear. Someone had trained her from the start. He’d started his training a little late. His usefulness to collect energy and starseeds went only so far, but now that Aue had taken over his training, he was becoming just a little bit more familiar with hand to hand combat.

It wasn’t enough.

He yelped in surprise when she kicked at him, and he stumbled backwards and to the ground with a thud, hissing at the pain to both his side where she’d kicked him, and his leg where he’d landed awkwardly. This wasn’t good. He couldn’t stop thinking about how everyone was watching. Waiting for him to screw up.

Shakily, he pushed himself back to his feet. He chose a stance again and tried for another attack, this time to her side. He knew he didn’t manage to hit her very well, and did what he could to get out of her way before she countered.

Spectator

"Focus." Tourmaline growled softly between her teeth, the sound mostly beneath her breath. Even from this distance she swore she could feel the tension in the air around Kamacite. From where she stood she could almost taste the anxiousness and it riled her. It had been like this the first time she had seen him fight against her own Lieutenant, and yet...

There were too many people. Too many distractions. Too many voices. Too many things all rolling down into too much. It wasn't that he wasn't capable it was that no one would shut up.

Spectator sports were awful when the stands were filled with rabble.

"For all that I am well aware we should be able to fight under any circumstances.... Caterwauling can be incredibly distracting. Gods almighty, Tiberius, shut up." Followed shortly by, "Picture them all in their underwear, Kamacite!"

Adamantine was not one to get cocky in the middle of the fight. Beyond her already simple emotional breakdown, one was not stressing in the middle of a fight. She had faced a scarier monster then this whimpering child in front of her. She had survived her alpha almost destroying her.

She almost expected better of the same pupils of Laby, but they had left, so who knew what happened after. Her heels clicked as she moved almost like a predator around the boy, her gaze completely focused and looking for something to attack.

She was not aiming to kill, just cripple. After all, a injured prey was no threat to her, if they couldn't fight back. She teleported, for the first time since she became a super, driving a pointed hand into his shoulder in attempts to disconnect the nerves temporarily.

"It's just getting started," Zircon murmured down, using a hand to help Silk up onto her shoulder for a better view of the fight. She scratched behind Silk's ears, a small token of affection, but she kept her eyes on the fight where the belonged.

When Adamantine's kick landed, she nodded in approval, perhaps giving a smirking glance to some of the rowdier voices in the room. Let them offer their jeers and advice--it wouldn't save the other senshi from good training.

It wasn't that Senshi were rare in the Negaverse (proportionally, they were), it was mostly that Larimar had little contact with them - or, well, little contact outside of aggressive enemy senshi and their punch-first-questions-never strategy. (Not that Larimar blamed them, really. Being terrible people didn't mean they were prohibited from having decent strategies.) The closest thing they had to having routine encounters was Xenia, who by way of her relationship with Wavellite ended up showing up at team meetings more often than they'd like; teenage romance had never been their thing and never would be, and the two girls were so sickeningly-sweethearts they almost wanted to vomit. It was absolutely cloying. They hated it.

They had enough good sense to acknowledge, though, that outside of their own upcoming fight, there were plenty of Senshi in this tournament - plenty of high-ranking officers, too - and watching them would, undoubtedly, import some valuable information.

Adamantine and Kamacite - Super-ranked, equivalent to Captains in aura strength, but rather different in clothing style and build and overall demeanor. Adamantine seemed stoic, either playing it cool or legitimately disinterested (each had its' own benefits and associated issues, although the latter tended towards actual emotional trauma as a cause, which was relatively inconvenient as things usually went); Kamacite far less so, with a fuku tending towards performative Japanese myth (was he actually Japanese? He looked it? Then again, they were hardly going to start thinking about cultural appropriation as it related to Senshi costuming, because as Larimar was well aware they were a b***h-a** white kid with the barest cultural heritage of far-removed Judaism) and a demeanor and stance that lead more towards thoughts of panic attacks and paranoid anxiety than anything inspiring or, god forbid, brave.
And then there was Adamantine's dress, with slits so high up the side it was less of a dress and more of a shirt with associated fabric, and her pin-thin heels -- it didn't look promising in a fight. But what of this did? Ashanite walked around shirtless with lace-sided pants, for ******** sake, and he'd somehow gotten himself to third-rank and been trusted to command underlings.

(They wondered about every part of that sentence every day. There was a lot to unpack about it. Most of it they weren't really interested in unpacking but managed to do so anyways.)

Larimar leaned forward, took mental notes, and kept watching.

SPEKTATORZ

It was hard, watching Kamacite struggling against the predatory female corrupt with the cold gaze. But it was also, in theory, a good experience for him, something to learn from. Now he was second guessing, thinking perhaps they should have waited longer to have him spar with unknowns; thoughts that were pushed aside as soon as they surfaced - no. Kamacite could handle this, win or lose. He was capable.

If Adamantine Spar were the more skilled of the pair, then she would win. There was no shame in that and all the more reason to be recording to break down where Kamacite needed the most work, to see what was and wasn't effective.

Tiberius was being overly loud, Aue glowered but could not offer a hand to Faustite to scruff nor stop him. "It would not help, he is louder when displeased." he murmured so as not to contribute further to the building noise that might distract the battling corrupts.

--

Faustite was bitching. Tiberius would be certain to piss down his pipes at some point in retaliation, but not here, not now. Now it was about the sunburst senshi being too much in his head - not enough in his heart and his balls.

The Mauvian longed to leap out into the battle and ******** shoot Adamantine in her chest cavity with his laser beam. Under any other circumstances, he probably would have wanted to flirt with her and fluff her chin with his tail, to charm her because she was a senshi and he was a Mauvian and that's just what his kind did but right then - in that arena - she was hurting his senshi and Tiberius was chittering and all but frothing-angry.

The blue star on his forehead glowing ominously as he paced from Faustite's shoulders down his body to lap and back up again, even standing on the half-youma's head with his forepaws so he could angrily lash his tail and yammer at the combatants like he were laying out some secret feline curse over the proceedings.

Faustite shot a look to the intervening officer, a thank you resting on his tongue, when Tiberius simply resumed his antics with pacing and angry cat noises. He sighed, dropping his shoulders dramatically enough that he might dissuade the heavy feline's pacing. But he went on nonetheless, brush tail fwapping everything from his face to his pipes, and likely would not stop until the end of the fight.

Where Kama would, by present tides, lose spectacularly.

And then Faustite would endure more feline bitching on the way back. He looked from the fight to almost-but-not-quite-Aue, more like over his shoulder to some distant spectator, and sighed. "So he'll distract him." And I can't drown his overblown antics in smoke, either. Faustite's gaze realigned with the battle and the thorough onesidedness of it.

So the other one is Adamantine Spar. At least she's effective.

He shot another glance out to the visiting general, a plea plainly visible in his black eyes. Save me from this tempestuous cat.

He could hear the voices from the people watching. From Tiberius, and from Aue, and Tourmaline. He could hear voice cheering for the white and blue haired senshi as well.

He felt as though everything was washing over him, drowning him in too much noise, too much movement. He would never survive out on the streets the way he was fighting now. But out there he wouldn’t be fighting. He would be running. He knew his fight or flight always seemed to stick to flight, but this was a tournament and he couldn’t just leave, as much as he wanted.

And yet, he already felt as though he was letting people down.

The senshi moved quickly, and Kamacite hadn’t anticipated her teleporting and appearing behind him. He let out a distressed squeak of pain and stumbled forward, back onto his knees and hands, trying to catch his breath. Maybe if she was someone larger, he would have a better chance. He’d been training with Aue. He was used to his size. He could handle someone of that size and use his own speed to his advantage, but this woman was fast.

So he needed to disable her, even if it was only temporary.

The fight wasn't over yet. And he didn't want to give up just yet. Even if she was stronger than him, he was going to do everything he could to fight back. He wouldn't be a waste of Aue's time. Even if he lost, he would just have to remember this to learn from. And right now, he needed a moment to settle himself and his nerves.

“Solar maximum!” Kamacite cried as he rolled onto his side, still on the ground, his hands outstretched before she could think to attack him while he was down. He didn’t know how effective it would be but --

Kamacite yelped again in surprise as the lights directly above them in the arena burst, and he lifted his arms to cover his face against the falling glass. There were still lights on away from their stage, but they were now fighting in mostly darkness…

After she recovered from seeing stars.

Super Magic: There is a brilliant flash of light causing temporary but immediate disorientation and blindness that fades into horribly spotty vision; can last upwards of thirty seconds. Additionally, devices with an electrical or magnetized charge (street lights, phones, cameras, etc) suddenly do not work during those thirty seconds. There have been cases of street light bulbs bursting from the electromagnetic surge. The attack does not cause physical damage and is intended as a diversion or distraction, as well as a hindrance. Has an effect radius of 10 feet (although the flash can be seen as one would see any flash), and can be used three times.

Adamantine hopped back as she wanted to get out of the senshi's range of attack, settling on the movement of dive and back. It was working for her, but should she need to shift, she would.

What she had not expected was the burst of light and magic, blinding her and shattering some of the bulbs above her. Her arm came up to block some of the damage, but shards still hit true and she had to pluck one carefully out of her shoulder.

She couldn't see, between the blinding light and darkened lights, so her next attack missed far and wide. She felt a small connection, but nothing more then that.

She would not lose her cool over this though. She steadied her breathing again, she focused on anything but pain, especially in her shoulder.

SPEKTATORZ

Aue had seen Kamacite fight often enough to recognize when he was about to cast and pulled down a pair of sunglasses that had been hiding in his hair to protect his eyes.

"Might want to shield your eyes." Was all the warning he would give to Faustite before the magic happened and everything went dark in their immediate vicinity, save for the glow of magic, ambient lighting, and his screen.

It was a good solid shot he'd gotten in on Adamantine Spar, Aue was pleased. Not with the desperation that had preceded it's usage, but with the fact that Kamacite had been able to pull himself together enough to manage using it. To the side, Tiberius was making more racket, despite Tourmaline's admonition that he shut the hell up, and he was stomping horrifically on Faustite as though the half-youma were less than even a quarter human, and more like 90% furniture.

"Be still, cat. You do not help."

--

He was gonna laser that bird with the nice tits and the crack between them. In the darkness, he could see better than the others, especially since managed to shove his face in Faustite's weirdly scented hair just before the magic happened and wasn't blinded by it. Would anyone even notice if he just...hopped into the ring? And ******** shot her in the tit?

Tiberius was about to slide down Faustite's body when he heard the Finn mutter at him and froze. Had he known? Or was it just because he'd been tearing the s**t out of Smokestack's shoulders? Maybe he should just ...calm down a minute. Just a minute. All the agitation wasn't good for his blood pressure anyway.

Except. His senshi.

Tiberius continued to pace, but less erratically, pausing a bit even to sit on the half-youma's shoulders for a moment, to stick his nose in his ear canal for a cold, whiskery treat.

Aue gave warning enough that Faustite only endured a fraction of the super senshi's power, which blitzed his eyes enough to leave a troublesome afterimage. He blinked seeral times as a bright starburst stretched the length of his vision, fading in hues from orange to red to purple to blue. Groaning deep in his throat, his shoulders sagged further. When would they end the fight? He'd sooner need to step out to euthanize the cat than see a victory on either side.

The very cat who rage-paraded all over his shoulders. Pointy paws jabbed into muscle that already proved oversensitive; the senshi's assault left many a tendon and muscle ripped or sprained. Cat weight on top of it provoked pain enough without the trouble.

And then a muzzle forced itself into his ear. Faustite wrenched back, nearly prostrating himself over Aue's lap (and glazing pale skin with blush in the midst of it), then clawed his way to his feet in an awkward show of juvenile regret. "Give me a minute," he muttered without looking toward Aue. Already he was pacing for the door at length. Hands slid up to his face in their braces, and he hoped that cold fingers might dissuade the heat in his cheeks faster. They didn't.

Faustite paused as soon as he reached the hall, the cat a captive to the venture. "Choke on it, furbag." A flicker sounded a moment later, and the Negaverse's interstice filled with smoke.

But only for a moment, as the reaction soon funneled away into a sprightly cat nose.

syrie
excuse
Dispersion ;;
Range: 3 foot radius with Faustite at the epicenter.
Duration: 30 seconds
Use Count: 3x
Miss Chance: Circumventing magic, stepping beyond radius before execution, stepping out during the attack. Holding breath and closing eyes mitigates some of the effects.
Effect: Faustite draws his hands together, and a sound curiously akin to an opening lighter may be heard. With a deafening blast, Faustite then envelops himself in choking smoke. Those caught in the radius of the initial blast endure a residual ringing in the ears and mild disorientation. The blast itself articulates as the billowing black smoke, and those who breathe it will suffer burning lungs, stinging eyes, and may cough frequently depending on their reaction to the smoke. The symptoms of ringing ears and coughing will linger after leaving the smoke, up to a maximum of five seconds. This attack is not intended to produce lasting damage (like lung damage or hearing damage), but may do so at the defending player's behest.

Occlusion ;;
Range: Any single target within his 3' radius.
Duration: Remaining time of Dispersion attack
Use Count: 3x
Miss Chance: All factors affecting Dispersion; if the former attack lapses or the opponent steps out of range, then this attack cannot be used.
Effect: Using Occlusion immediately terminates all effects of Dispersion. Faustite draws all the smoke of his Dispersion attack into the lungs of the affected victim. Thus, the smoke passes through nose and mouth and leaves behind temporary, mild burns in these areas. When in the victim's lungs, the smoke condenses into a toxic fluid which triggers various symptoms. Water inside the lungs acts as an irritant and necessitates coughing and gasping, while the hot smoke aspect sears the lungs. Though very painful, this attack does not produce permanent damage. The carbonaceous water evaporates at the end of the attack. Any lasting damage may be incurred at the behest of the defending player.

It wasn’t much, but it was what Kamacite needed to be able to push himself back to his feet. His legs were shaking from the effort of trying to keep up with the other senshi. He was way out of his league with all this. She must have been practicing and training for ages longer than himself. Where as he’d only been recruited into the Negaverse less than a year ago.

But that was no excuse for his poor performance.

And he didn't want Wolfeite to think that Aue hadn't been training him well.

Things were easier for him in the dark like this. Not all of the lights had been blown out, so after thirty or so seconds some of them flickered back to life. But before that time was out, Kamacite darted forward to try another attack.

He knew he couldn’t outrun her, but he could at least take advantage of the temporary darkness, especially after her attack barely hit him.

Jerking his knee up, he aimed for her stomach this time, reaching out to try and grab onto some of her outfit so he could keep her from jumping away too soon.

Larimar didn't know Kamacite and didn't hear the muttered warning from Aue - they were blinking spots out of their vision for what felt like an eternity but couldn't have been more than a minute. Almost definitely less. Their vision was still spotty, still unclear, but Kamacite was brilliant orange and Adamantine was blue-blue-blue, a glittering afterimage; shaking their head did nothing for clearing their vision.

That was fine too. It was good knowledge to have. What magic, from a boy who'd looked ready to pass out from anxiety at the beginning of the spar; clearly it was unrelated to sense-of-self, if the mantle of 'Kamacite' (or whatever stupid star name he'd had before that) was repeated, was carried on.

Part of Adamantine wondered if that was what her magic felt like when she blew it on to General Labyrinthe. Her eyes had finally stopped seeing stars and spots, and she was able to pluck the glass from the lamps out of her shoulder.

What lights were left, flickered back to life and for once she did offer the senshi a look of respect. If there was one thing she appreciated, it was the power a senshi would offer. She respected and envied that...but...she had magic as well.

Something she would reserve until she felt she needed. He came up, kneeing her in the stomach, keeping her close. A gasp escape as it connected, bending her over. Eventually, she gained her breath back, diving forward and placing her hands on the ground. She was not above ripping her uniform to gain the upperhand, and as she cartwheeled over his knee, she used her foot to push his arm up and away from him.

She needed to return to her berings now, shifting until she was comfortable again.
