"I don't have a problem with that," Lin answered, straight-faced. Whether she had caught the innuendo or not was impossible to tell.

Lin nodded. "Follow me," she replied, and turned to lead the way out of the pod room.

Lin glanced back and observed that Forge was walking just fine. It must have been a conscious choice not to get out of the pod immediately. That was probably simply a personality difference, although Lin wouldn't have thought anyone could be comfortable in a pod right after awakening from stasis.

"After you find your weapon, I will take you to the quartermaster so that you can get your room assignment and some basic necessities," she told Forge.

Lin got up from where she had been sitting cross-legged on the ground, waiting, and nodded to Forge. "Nice," she said. Then she summoned her own weapon, a hefty sledgehammer type with spikes and ornate markings on its head and a snakelike tail that wound down the handle. She held it two-handed, apparently comfortably. "His name's Anax," she said.

Anax preened in Lin's mind, his customary sourness lifting briefly at the compliments. I am sharp and beautiful, he agreed. There was a quick flare of wariness as the other woman reached out to touch him, but it quieted. Lin didn't attempt to stop the action. It wasn't as though anyone would be able to take her weapon, even if they wanted to.

"He appreciates the compliments," she said. "Yours is also beautiful," she added, remembering that she should return the compliment.

Lin blinked twice and looked thoughtfully at both weapons. "They are very different," she said. "There are too many differences between them to make a straightforward comparison, I feel. Typology, decorative embellishment, basic structure, they are very dissimilar."

"I believe, technically, they pick us, rather than the other way around." Lin desummoned Anax, and the jeweled hoop of the earring that was his totem form reappeared in her left ear. "The selection seems to be based on mental and emotional compatibility between weapon and candidate, or so I've been told." She shrugged. "Mutual liking does not seem to be a necessary element in the process."

She picked up the clipboard from the ground where she'd been sitting. "If you'll come this way, I'll take you to the quartermaster so that you can recieve your room assignment and some basic supplies. Your belongings and your uniform coat will be brought to your room later, once we've gone through the process."

"They store what you brought with you until you wake up." Lin didn't know what was done with the personal belongings of candidates who failed to wake up. Probably discarded; they couldn't, after all, be returned to the families. "I guess it's easier to let people pack some personal items than to have to supply clothing for everyone. There is some clothing available if don't have enough, but it isn't high quality," she clarified.

"I am still a trainee," she corrected. "I happened to be on duty monitoring the pod room today. It's a duty that most people receive from time to time. Usually it's uneventful, but when you have it you'll be briefed on what to do if someone wakes up on your watch."
