Hamish jerked suddenly as someone rasped next to him, Hamish's hands reaching up to cover his ears, having been spooked by the sound. The boy whipped around instinctively to see who had been the source of the ungodly sound. When his eyes landed on a child in a onesie, Hamish's eyes narrowed, tongue clicking against the rough of his mouth.

The hybrid didn't hesitate, hands dropped from around his ears as he took a few steps closer towards the other child. "Hey! Hey, you! In the animal onsie! Yah, you!" Hamish's disgruntled voice caught the attention of a caretaker, their full attention on him as the boy shifted all his weight on to one foot, a hand on his hip as he tapped the freshling on the shoulder.

"Yo. Why are you making such creepy noises? Are you trying to freak people out? That's not very nice of you." Hamish looked cross, but pretty soon a broad grin spread across his face. The boy had always been hard to read. "Just joshin'. You alright?
You sound like you have a cold."

"What'cha readin'?" Rudy asked, fidgeting with his sweater collar.

User Image Winter peeked over the top of her book and saw a pair of feet approaching from under the table. Perhaps they wouldn't see her, or just wanted to steal a chair? She was surprised when they stopped a ways from the table and addressed her. They inquired to her about her book. Winter scooted forward and peeked out from under the table. "Its a fairytale book" she responded, turning the pages outward to be seen. "This is the story of The Princess and the Pumpka". Moving out a bit farther, careful not to bump her head she saw whom she was addressing. They looked nice enough and their tail was pretty cool.

Huh. Okay, maybe the kid was more awkward then Maurice had been only a few months ago. The poor kumiho hybrid looked completely lose and almost ... a bit useless? Maurice, despite himself, let out a small giggle. He was feeling rather charmed by the hybrid's overly timid disposition. Maurice had to wonder if he himself had been like that when his friend Target had first encountered him. "Hey, relax. It'll be okay. Come with me, we'll grab some of the bean bag chairs while they're still open, okay?"

Maurice offered his hand to the other freshling, offering to guide them. Judging by how the other child clung to the older student, Maurice had a feeling they might feel safer if they were being guided places instead of wandering on their own. Maurice prayed he was not misjudging the situation. "You can take my hand if you want. Just be careful ... my claws can be a little sharp."

So here he was walking towards his doom. Okay that was a bit melodramatic but he figured the day called for it. Then again one often found good friends in the strangest places, his own parents an example of that. Maybe he would give it a try. It would make the school care takers happy and it wasn't like he had anything planned for the day. His older siblings were doing their after school activities and his parents were at school. It would just be empty at home.
So he looked around the room as he sat down. It would be best to find the people that didn't irritate him if he wanted this thing to work. He knew he had a bit of a snarky temper.

User Image Caraway was dropped off that the freshling playroom by her mommy Aloe, she wasn't sure if she was looking forward to this or dreading it. What if the freshlings made fun of her for her love of reading like her sibling did? She walked in and settled into the book corner. She picked out a book about a very abnormal group of orphans and she started to read. She was very curious about the mind of the author who dreamed up these strange beings that didn't have tails or wings or pointy ears. She wondered if there was a world somewhere that they might actually be real.

Rudy listened as the voice beneath the table began to speak up, the sound muffled by the obstacle. Rudy had to strain to hear the other freshling talk as the area around them began to get busier. There was far more chatter now then there had been when Rudy first arrived. It looked like the playroom was serving its purpose.

"Princess and the what ... ?" Rudy asked, not quite hearing the full title. His three eyes blinked curiously as a face appeared from beneath the table, his head tilting to one side, his claws gently scratching at his cheek. "A fairytale, huh? I haven't read a lot of those. Then again, I never was the strongest reader. Do you enjoy it? Reading, that is ... "

User Image Stella arrived at the freshling playroom, she saw a toy she liked and didn't look back. She sat down in front of the blocks and pondered how to stack them using her hooves. She wasn't worried about anything she could handle anything life threw at her. Even a block tower or a mean freshling. She carefully picked up one block and carefully put it on another. Her block tower was a slow going process. Since hooves didn't make for easy building, or climbing or anything else for that matter. Luckily Stella was made of tough stuff and didn't cry when things were hard. She knocked her tower over and started over again.

Animal onesie? Well, she was in an animal onesie! Lilly looked up excitedly, thrilled that someone was already talking to her. Fantastic! However, her smile quickly faltered as he gave her a look that she had seen many adults do. Her mouth formed into a pout.

”I’m not making creepy noises-“ she cut off when the other began to smile. And blinked. Before quickly beaming back, not one to turn down a shared smile. She rarely got them with Birkita, after all.

Less defensive and more eager to make a new friend, she stepped up to the hybrid boy, eyes bright. ”I’m alright, I just bumped my leg is all!” she assured in her whispery voice before tilting her head ever the slightest. She sounded like she had a cold?

”I don’t… think I’m sick,” she whispered, brows furrowing down into a worried look. If she was sick, Birkita would want to restrict Lilly to only her bed. Birkita had too much studying to do to get sick, apparently. ”I hope I’m not sick,” she added in a sigh before straightening up. Her face brightened once more. ”What’s your name?!” she asked breathlessly, taking more steps closer.

Winter reached back under the table and grabbed her bag with Blue in it before stepping out from underneath. "Princess and the Pumpka". Winter handed the book to the other freshling. "It has a lot of stories in it." Winter nodded to herself and messed with her overly long sleeves. "I like to read.. its like a movie you can watch at your own pace.. and you dont need anyone else to do it." She looked around at the large busy room, it made her anxious to stand out in the open even if she was standing at the back of the room away from most of the people. When I was at home, someone else read to me but.. here I have to read to myself.

'It'll be good for you! Just go out and try it!'

Azula's nose wrinkled and her tail thrashed from side to side. Her current caretaker insisted that she get out for socialization, but if her parents didn't want her, what were the chances that anyone else wanted to talk to her? Look at her, even? Throughly convinced that no one would want anything to do with her, Azula chose a little bucket of bricks and slid into a corner to start building. Then knocking down. Then building again. Repeating the cycle.

Not sick? Just a bumped knee? Hamish nodded his head, sucking on his lower lip as he listened to the kid speak. It sounded like -- had they said their name? -- the other child might be a couple years younger then Hamish. Hamish was well on his way to becoming a junior. He had to wonder ... did he really need friends who weren't going to move on with him?

Hamish smacked his chimera tail against the floor thoughtfully. "I'm Hamish." The boy chirped, his tendrils flickering in and out. "That's good you're not sick, I guess? But the sounds you made were totally creepy."

Rudy watched as they flowerless fey -- yah, definitely a hybrid -- reached for their bag form under the table, listening to their words thoughtfully. A movie you can watch at your own pace ... and you don't need anyone else?

"That makes no sense," Rudy offered logically. "You can watch a movie at your own pace. You just pause it or stop it when you want to turn it off. And you don't need to watch a movie with another person." Rudy his claws through his hair. "But I think I get what you're saying ... I've heard of a book of fairytales like that called 'Turnip Princess'. Have you heard of it?"

Flynn toddled in to the room with an overfull bag of discarded fashion magazines. The bag was almost too heavy for the boy to carry. His hat drooping down over his face and obscuring his vision wasn't helping matters. The hallowed hybrid navigated his way blindly through the gathered freshlings, a couple caretakers keeping an eye out for him to make sure he didn't hurt himself. Eventually, Flynn arrive near the back of the room, setting down his bag with an audible fwump!

Flynn was panting heavily, leaning over himself with his hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath. He hadn't realized he had been holding it ... or that he was next to another hallowed freshling.

"Oh!" Flynn jumped back in surprise. "I'm so sorry! I hope I didn't spook you at all ... !"

Winter scrunched her nose. "A movie goes the same speed consistently while your viewing. Just because your watching doesn't make it go any faster or slower." She noted. "The story in a book unfolds at the speed you read it, plus you can take it with you and experience it without a crystal....though i suppose your right about the other person part... I just don't like group activities". She put her book back into her bag, then put it loosely over her shoulder. Out of the bag crawled Blue who found his way on top of her head and curled up. Winter looked up at her companion embarrassed, he knew better than to show himself in public. "Um..turnip princess.. I don't believe so....though the turnip makes me think its probably passed down stories. I don't know of many fairytales involving vegetables. Unless you count the one about magic beans". She noticed she was being...a know it all again. Other kids didn't really like how she talked like a grown up about things. But Winter loved to learn things, so even for a child her brain was filled with random facts. "I mean..um...no but it sounds cool..?"

" I must seem like a basket case. I am sorry" Vanhi mumbled sheepishly although it was loud enough to hear if Maurice really wanted it. She knew she could do better than this really. "Yeah, I can do that." Was her answer. She looked over at the beanbag chairs. " they seem like a wonderful idea."
She did take his hand, almost instinctively. It was common for one of her family to offer their hand to her, something she figured was probably due to her being the youngest in a rather good sized family. The claws didn't bother her either, pretty much all her family but Ila had claws of some type.
" everyone in my family has claws, I will be totally careful" she replied wiggling her reed hand to show she had claws as well, curtsy of course of her chimera blood. "Thank you."
