Flipping through the book Kaimana found his gaze widening. There were a lot of facts in here! Some things he didn’t even know. Was that honestly a plant that was in this area? His mouth curved upwards into a grin as he studied the sketches, “Not bad.” He murmured before gasping at another sketch of a giant creature, “This is in our ocean?!” He blinked before glancing towards Kieran, “So you want me to draw for you while you work on these journals? But Matori seems to be pretty covered so what…”

“It’s not Matori I’m wanting to cover now.” Kieran replied quietly as hinge watched the boy, “It’s Belrea.” A small smile crossed his features, “Obviously no Yaeli leaves the island easily as they are too frightened and superstitious about the outside world so I had to ask someone else from the mainland to help me. I was even thinking of hiring someone from Belrea but when I saw your sketch I thought it would fit in lovely with the style I already had.”
He paused and studied Kaimana a bit more, “If you’re willing I can cover the cost of the trip, pay for food and supplies, and then pay you for your work. It may take almost half a year or so but it will be well worth it as I am not a cheap man.”

Blinking in surprise Kaimana just sat there silently as Kieran introduced the idea of going to Belrea to him. Belrea! Out of all places to want to go it was that place? The medicine there could save Grams… And he would get paid? Would it be worth leaving home for half a year if not longer though?
Now that was a lot to think about. Sighing Kaimana lowered his gaze, “It’s a lot to ask of me, Kieran. We have just met after all and haven’t even finished our first dinner together you know.”

“I know.” Kieran smiled with amusement before reaching to take a pouch of coin from his satchel, “I have more to be shipped from Yael when we return and could pay you this much in advance once we prepare to leave for the airships. I realize it’s a huge request and will take a lot of risks and trust between us something hardly achieved when we have just met.” He nodded his head, “I acknowledge that and so will give you a few days to decide. If you do want to take the offer just know I’ll be staying here at this tavern preparing for the trip. I do wish that you accept as I feel that your work will be best suited to aid me.”

“Thank you.” Kaimana took a deep breath as he settled in his chair, “I’ll be able to decide in a couple of days and should be back to let you know either way.” The Matori forced a smile, “As it is our food should be ready soon? Let’s just enjoy that while you show me more about these journals of yours. They’re very interesting after all.”
And then he could go home and contemplate how much coin was in that pouch before him - something that was an obvious temptation. The only thing holding back his excitement was fear of leaving his Grandmother and Sister alone. He had never left Matori after all.
But who knew? Perhaps it was time for a change of scenery…
