Promise or threat, it didn't really matter which version caused Yuuri to pause again. Which option set the churning gears in his brain slowing to focus into choosing a course of action and putting it into the world with an open telegraphing that Lauri couldn't have missed if he'd been blind or sober.
As the Finn was neither, he noticed things: slightly reddened steely grey eyes watched one bowl being set aside with spoon, watched as Yuuri took up a half-kneeing position to allow for leaning in. Being kissed was something the brunet could have avoided if he'd cared to put any effort at all into it as his packmate had no skill for artifice or seduction, but Lauri made no move to discourage or deny Yuuri's advances.

In fact, his sauced brain found this all quite pleasant, and if he wanted to join his spoon and bowl into a set to give himself a free hand it was only a small matter of dexterity and working with reduced faculties of his brain to not knock Yuuri - or his own bowl - over.

"Proving relaxed, eh?" Yuuri tasted like stew.

 Lauri was okay with this.

"'Today is a day for not-thinking,'" Yuuri quietly repeated, one arm resting across Lauri’s bare shoulder to keep himself steady, his fingers reaching out to gently scratch at the back of Lauri’s neck, something he’d observed on more than one occasion that Lauri seemed to enjoy.
Relaxed? No, he didn’t think it was possible to relax. Not entirely. But he could pretend. He prefered being able to control his own actions than allow his mind to do whatever it, or others, wanted under a haze of influence.

A haze not much unlike the one influencing Lauri. However the Finn had been celebrating, it was obviously affecting him. He was practically a different person. Cheerful, relaxed, talkative. Unlike the stormily sullen indifference Lauri usually presented to both Yuuri and others.

There was a part of Yuuri that wondered if maybe he was already pressing things too far. He’d already surprised himself with being bold enough to kiss Lauri twice now, without any prompting from the other. But he would be lying if he said he didn’t like Lauri. Obviously he liked him enough to kiss him, and even enough to be relatively comfortable around him. Lauri had gone out of his way to help Yuuri more than once, he hadn’t made him feel ashamed of himself.

Yuuri would be lying if he said he regretted returning to the warehouse with Lauri after he, as Aue, taught him how to successfully flip him onto his back. And he would be lying if he said he hadn’t let his thoughts wander back to that night.

He would be lying if he said he hadn’t initially been disappointed when he thought Lauri hadn't been home that evening. An excuse in the form of blueberry pie that he’d spent probably too long trying to think up, researching whatever he could find of the Finnish Day of Independence.

Nervous, stressed, second guessing himself -- yes. He had expected the worst, as he always did. Expected Lauri to maybe greet him and then send him on his way. Pathetic, really. Stuttering and awkward and tripping all over himself when he really just wanted this.

 Whatever this was.

This was fleeting. The longer he remained around Lauri the more relaxed he did become, and yet the next time they crossed paths, Yuuri knew his anxiety would force him to once again lose any kind of confidence he could muster.

“How long have you been drinking? You should have water too, you know,” Yuuri shifted the topic as he gingerly set himself back, kneeling a bit farther away from Lauri to give him some space. Yuuri had managed to take something he wanted without the world ending, so allowing his eyes to linger on the man next to him didn’t seem like it would hurt anything. It wasn’t every day he got to look at someone like Lauri in just their underwear. Much less kiss them.

Yuuri would be lying if he said he didn’t wonder what he could convince Lauri to do while intoxicated. But his own confidence only went so far. And it wouldn't be appropriate.
