RP Response:
Bridgette figured a walk would be good for her. So much had happened and she still didn't know how she was going to deal with it all but that was probably a problem for another day since today did not feel like the day she could handle it all. Her feet continued to move as she thought. She wasn't making any progress in her mind but at least her feet were. She didn't know how much time passed but eventually she stopped walking. She looked up at the building she had stopped in front of confused. An adoption place? Where you adopted little ones? She wasn't sure if she should go in. Would they want her here? Would a little one want her? She frowned and bit her lip. Maybe it would be a good idea to go in. She nodded to herself. This was where she had looked up so there had to be a reason for that. Might as well go inside and see what would be happening in there. She smiled and squared her shoulders. Nothing to be afraid of but a lot of people were afraid of her.

She put on the nicest smile she could so as not to startle or scare anyone and walked in. It seemed like a nice place here and the atmosphere felt nice to her. She walked around in there and nodded her head to one of the people in charge. They pointed her to an area with little ones playing. She walked in and smiled at the kids. There were some playing with each other but there was one playing on its own. She watched it for a little bit and smiled. She wasn't sure if the little one didn't like people or if it just liked to play on its own. She watched it with the toys. All the same? Why would someone play with all the same toys? Didn't the little one like variety? Or maybe that was their favorite toy. They were all feline like toys.

She walked over and sat down near the kid. "Hi. My name is Bridgette." The kid looked up at her for a few moments in silence and she waited to see what the little one would do. She didn't say anything else merely waited. The little one finally nodded. "I'm Zara." She nodded her head. "That's a pretty name." The little one just nodded. "Yes." Bridgette laughed and inclined her head at that. "So do the felines have names?" Sara nodded and pointed to each before saying its name. Bridgette listened and asked questions about each of them. She was enjoying spending time with the little one and learning about the toys. She laughed and began to play with the felines too after asking permission. The little one seemed so thrilled.

Bridgette was really happy she had decided to wander in here. It was a nice place and the littles here were all laughter and smiles. It made her feel better about the world around here even for just a bit. She wondered if she could come volunteer here and play with the little ones. She wasn't sure is places like this had that but if they did she might like doing that. It would be a nice way to give back. She looked over when one of the staff came and said it was snack time for them. She nodded and got up ready to go. She waved to the little one and nodded her head. She would like to come back again maybe she could bring a feline for the sweet little one.

She walked out but stopped when someone called out to her. She looked back seeing it was the receptionist. "I'm sorry. Did I do something wrong? Or is there something you need?" He smiled and shook his head a bit. "I'm sorry. I was watching you with that little one. No one has ever been able to engage with that that one. They always walk away, get bored, or frustrated or something else. Have you ever considered adoption?" She stared with opened mouthed shock. Adoption? No. She never had. She shook her head.

"No. I haven't ever considered that. Why do you ask?" He smiled at her. "Well you might consider adopting that one or some others. You seem to have a knack with them and they need a good home." She smiled and tilted her head thinking about it. "Adoption huh? I honestly had never thought.about it and it doesn't seem like something that should be rushed into. And isn't there a lot of paperwork and background check things to go through?" The receptionist nodded. "But you should think about it and if you want to we would happily work with you and you seem like a good person. I have an instinct about these things and I think you'd make a very good parent to any of them. You should really consider it."

Bridgette nodded her head. "I would like to. So sure we can start thinking about it." Seemed his had been a pretty interesting day and she hadn't even meant to come here but then again that was how most of her life went. She ended up doing things she never meant to and it had so far seemed to work out so why not continue to trend? She smiled hopefully. She hoped she could give someone a nice life and help make a little one smile or something.

Prompt 2: You take notice of a child who is playing by themselves with a myriad of toys that are all of a similar category (i.e., horses, trucks).
Prompt 3: The child from the play room runs out and meets you in the lobby to tell/give you something.

RP Response:

Laviticus' family dynamic had always been a bit peculiar. For the longest time the hybrid had not wanted to have children, and even hesitated to have a family of his own. Those days from his junior years, however, were long behind him. So much had happened in his life -- he had lost over half his family. His father Sasha, unwell and unable to tolerate Likais' promiscuous nature even after seperation, had abandoned them. Likais had been the one to leave Sasha first, steeling Laviticus in to the night and leaving no trace but a note with a half-cooked reason as to why Likais needed space, and why he took their son and not their daughter.

Sasha had still love Likais deeply, stilled play a part in Lavi's life despite Likais' wishes. After all, Sasha was still Lavi's father, and the child still wanted him in his life. But, it had been a difficult and up-hill battle. Sasha continued to deteriorate even after he found a new partner. Desperate to cling to some semblance of a family, Sasha started to have stone after stone that solely had his energy. When Lavi became curious and asked, "Why only your own magic?", Sasha had replied, "Because I know I won't leave me."

It had disturbed Laviticus deep to his core, left its own mark on the boy's mind. Both Sasha and Likais were opposite extremes, and Laviticus found as he entered in to his final years at the Academy that he needed to redefine what a family was.

So, Lavi moved out. Likais was rather displeased, but knew it was the best for his son. Instead, Laviticus had moved in with two of his beaus -- Malion and Galan -- a goblin and a fellow hybrid. The three shared a connection like Lavi had never known before, and suddenly Laviticus grew to understand what it was like to not want to lose his family. It frightened him, made him realize perhaps he had more of Sasha in him then he wanted to admit to.

But as time went on, Laviticus worked on himself, and as he grew, he found himself longing for children of his own. He wanted to provide a nurturing, caring, and safe space for children. A few years after graduating, Laviticus had imbued a stone of his own, surprised to have twins. His heart felt full.

It occurred to Lavi that his prior opinions of children had been wholly based in his personal bias. He found himself wanting to be around kids more and more often. Lavi decided perhaps volunteering at the orphanage would be a good start. This way, he could really make a difference in their lives -- give those without parents someone to look up to, to lead them, and to provide the same love and comfort Laviticus had struggled to maintain during most of his developmental years.

Near the end of Laviticus' trial period, he had noticed a child sitting alone, filling out a sudoku book. Instead of toys or interacting with other children, this child seemed rather cool and reserved, almost isolated. Laviticus continued to keep an eye on the child as the day went on, and when the child began to refuse food and drink during meals and snack times, Laviticus knew something was wrong.

Grabbing one of the juice boxes that remained untouched by the anguished child, Laviticus made his way over to the child. Kneeling, he gently offered the juicebox, the child lifting their head and peering up blankly with large saucer eyes.

"I have not seen you drink something today. You must be awfully dehydrated."

The child simply stared, as if right through Laviticus.

Oh no, Laviticus thought. The poor child has completely shut down.

"Do you want to talk about it ... ?" Laviticus asked, gently setting the juice box down beside the small child.

The child glanced towards the drink, then slowly back to Laviticus. The child remained silent.

Laviticus was not going to pry, and decided to simply continue to keep an eye on the child, just incase.

"Alright. You don't need to tell me anything if you're not ready. But, please know,I'm never really far. You can come talk to me about anything. Even if it's just to ask for a hug." Laviticus rose, the child's eyes following him as he walked away.

Laviticus kept his word, watching the child from the corner of his eye. There had been some movement. The child was now drawing, scribbling crayons across a blank page. Yet the juice box remained untouched.

The end of Lavi's volunteer shift finally came, and Lavi had no choice but to gather his things and head home for the day.

Laviticus made sure to say goodbye to the child, gently petting their hair for the briefest of moments, then proceed down the stairs and out the front door.

The hybrid had hardly made it down the front walkway when he heard the doors slam open. Lavi turned towards the noise, seeing the child with the spartan-esque demeanour running towards him, a drawing clutched in one hand and the juicebox in the other.

Laviticus turned fully, kneeling down just as the child reached him and stopped, panting heavily.

"Hello again," Laviticus smiled.

The child still stared. Stared for a long, awkward moment. Then the child peered down and handed Laviticus the drawing, placing it in both his hands. Laviticus blinked, the child nodding their head as the ripped the straw from their juicebox and stuck it in to the small hole that would allow him to drink, taking a long slurp.

Laviticus grinned. "What's your name, hon?"

"Naedyn," the child spoke quietly and mumbled around their straw, then turned and high-tailed it out of the cold winter air without further word, running up the steps and pulling the front door closed again. The child stared out of the glass panel for a fleeting moment, then disappeared.

Laviticus blinked, then looked down at the drawing in his hands -- only ... it wasn't there anymore?

Had it blown away in the wind? Had the hybrid been too distracted with the child that he hadn't noticed? Laviticus felt wretched, rising to his feet. Who knew when the next time the child would communicate again. He had made such progress with him, and Laviticus had lost the drawing.

Laviticus would have to tell the boy and apologize later.

* * *

The next day, despite the fact that Lavi had not intended to come back, Laviticus returned for one last day to check on the boy. He searched everywhere for Naedyn during his shift, but no matter where he looked, the boy could not be found. Finally, Laviticus dared to ask one of the caretakers, inquiring after the boys health. Had he fallen ill? Was he just in his bed? What if Naedyn needed food or company?

"Naedyn?" the caretaker looked confused, brows pinching together. "Lavi ... we've only ever had one Naedyn ... " Laviticus didn't understand, eyes blinking. Okay, so there was only one child named Naedyn. So what? Where was he?

The caretaker glanced around, then gently pulled Laviticus aside and whispered. "Naedyn died about a week before you began your volunteer work ... the poor dear. Some of the kids were quite traumatized by the whole ordeal ... how did you know about him?"

Laviticus' skin went pale as snow.

Prompt 1: Something has caused you to be volunteering for the orphanage for about the last week, and today is the last day you planned on volunteering.
Prompt 2: You take notice of a child who is playing by themselves with a myriad of toys that are all of a similar category (i.e., horses, trucks).
Prompt 3: You decide for some reason that maybe adoption isn't for you, and you go home empty-handed. But later that evening...
RP Response:

It was the holidays. That time of year. If it weren't for his persistent best friend, he wouldn't even be here. The month of his lover's death was a time that he would rather not be around anyone. But he ran out of excuses to make, and his friend was getting impatient. And annoying. Hence, he'd go this week. Prove to his friend that volunteering really wasn't that great of an idea. That it didn't make the time any more joyful. And fortunately, today was the last day. A wry smirk came across the widow's face. At least he would have a bit of enjoyment shoving it in his friend's face.

But..as he was trying to keep to himself and let the kids come to him; a kid caught his attention. They were...playing with rocks? He raised a quizzical brow at the disgruntled looking brat. What a weirdo. His lips threatened to quirk upward as he continued to watch. Just like her... The grump's face fell at the remembrance of his wife. Volunteering at the orphanage really didn't help things. Many of his age already had grown kids of their own. Who was he to adopt? Why was he even here? It had been his wife's dream to have kids together. Not his. That dream was now dead.

So he went home that night alone. His friend had finally given him the space he needed. He was peacefully alone. A sigh came from his lips as he relaxed in his recliner, ready to read to his hearts content. Unfortunately, he couldn't get very far in his book without thoughts of the little one plaguing his mind. Why was beyond him. And drinking, he had found out, didn't help. As dawn began to rise and his weary mind finally decided to rest, he decided that maybe he'd go adopt the brat.

The old man snorted as his mind drifted to sleep. Rocks. Who would have thought that he would find another like his wife. If only she were alive; they would have gotten along so well.

since its on the long side spoilered it

Psyche walked out of the grocery store and blew on his hands. Below could get somewhat cold in the winter months and it looked as if a storm was on its way in. Truthfully he wanted to be quite wrapped up in his nice house but alas he ended up coming down with a caffeine headache and all of his tea and chocolate had been used up on the last headache. He had planned a quick jaunt in, but had meet an old school friend and ended up talking as they did their shopping.

So here he was bundled up against the elements as much as he could, trying to get home with his soda before the rain rolled in. What followed next was almost a comedy of errors; apparently the road he often took to go home had been closed off in the time he had been in the store and while he was backtracking the storm had unleashed all of its furry. As a now rather quite wet and irritated nixie, he rushed under the first building awning he could.
“Okay universe I understand this is a lesson never to forget to restock your tea and chocolate” psyche muttered to himself.

“We have tea.” The voice startled psyche and after making sure his heart didn’t leap out of his chest, he turned to see a rather middle aged imp standing in the now open doorway. Sounds of children laughing and playing drifted from inside the building and psyche’s gaze quickly darted to the door. Ah the orphanage, well that would teach psyche to pick random buildings.
Well he hadn’t expected of all places to end up here but they did have tea. Truthfully he also missed being around children. Back when he lived with his family as the oldest it had been his job to look after the younger ones. Decision made up; after all it wasn’t as if anything truly important was waiting for him back home he nodded.

“I would love to have some, if you don’t mind terribly” Psyche replied switching his face over from his irritation to somewhat charming. No need to take his ire for the weather out on the imp.

Psyche followed the imp through the waiting room, handing over his sopping coat as to not drip all over the place and to give it a chance to dry, and accepted a towel to dry off the rest of himself. Weeks later he wondered if the next destination had been planned. He wouldn’t have put it past the imp. Instead of going straight to the kitchen for that tea, the imp decided to go the long route and walked right through the craft room. The sounds of playing and laughing he heard earlier suddenly stopped as everyone in the room paused to stare at him.

“Why were you out in the rain without an umbrella?” one of the youngest asked. As if that was the needed signal suddenly the whole room exploded into sound again.

“Are they staying here long? What’s their name? Why where they out in the storm? Is their hair as soft as it looks? Are those freckles or tiny star markings” was the outburst of questions aimed at him. The caretaker just laughed silently. Psyche wondered if that was secretly their cackle. Still it was weird to be the center of attention for the whole room.

Well that wasn’t true. He had all the children’s attention, all the children except one. In fact said child stared at psyche, gave a disbelieving frown and darted out of the playroom. Psyche wondered what exactly he had done to earn such a look. He had really only just entered the room. Maybe they just didn’t like Nixie? However he was quickly distracted by tiny little hands grabbing his own and dragging him off to play.

The next few hours he did in fact get tea which was a life saver, but he also spent it as a lovely dress up doll, The ogre in a version of hide and seek, and the leader in teaching everyone how to make wonderful sunset winter pictures with watercolors.

Yeah that wasn’t an adventure he wanted to elaborate. Soon enough he was finally able to escape into the waiting room again. The storm had died down a little bit, maybe enough to brave going home again.

It was then he heard a tiny scoff, and he turned to see the child from earlier. Said child was sitting in one of the waiting room seats glaring at him.

“Have I done anything to you?” Psyche couldn’t help but find himself saying.

“You existed and you’re the type to lead people on” was the unexpected answer.

“Hardly… sure I wasn’t planning on coming here today but maybe if you bothered to stay in the playroom and got to know-” Psyche started.
“Why bother getting to know you. You aren’t going to stick around. No one sticks around. They just show up for the holidays put in their volunteer work and then when school or work picks up again we see them maybe monthly… maybe never again. I’m tired of getting to know people and watching them leave me or picking someone else. Can’t be hurt again if you never let anyone else in” was the response.

Something in those words tore at Psyche. He remembered a little boy he had left behind. He had wanted to grab his younger brother when he left his family but there hadn’t been enough time and he had been so young himself. Eos must have thought he left and abandoned him as well.

“Maybe you shouldn’t just give up. If you feed despair of course it’s going to win” Psyche countered before grabbing his jacket and storming out into the rain. It hadn’t been the best reaction, and it was a bit childish himself but staying in that room looking into those accusing eyes had brought up things he didn’t want to acknowledge.

He also hadn’t said goodbye to the other children, and it was that mostly that had him waiting until after work to come back. The children were surprised and the child from earlier huffed before disappearing out of the room again. It was a common pattern every time he had a little bit of free time. He would show up play with the kids and make snarky comments at the waiting room child before he left.

“Why do you keep coming back? If it’s to make a point from those words during your first night don’t.” was aimed at him about a month of him visiting.
“Maybe the first time was to prove something, that and I forgot to say goodbye to the others, but I generally like spending time with children. I actually even want my own family and like I said before if you bothered to stay in the same room as me.” Psyche replied before once again stepping out onto the street.

Truthfully he had been thinking about the child’s words. It seemed to be a habit as he walked home. He had meant really to start volunteering at a familiar shelter or something but when he showed up the children really did seem to beam. Adopting all of them was definitely out of the question but if he could help the orphanage and spend time with the children then
So of course once he had started to actually get a routine, he fell sick and missed a month. The next available day he was feeling better psyche left work early and practically ran over to the orphanage only to find out that waiting room child was already there today. He sighed and stared at the child.

“You came back? I thought that I had.... I mean the other kids were all sad and.... why?" Psyche blinked, was the child actually sad he had been gone?
“Well because I am volunteering here. I was only gone so long because I was sick" psyche explained. For once since his whole start here he got a nod before the child ran out the door. Well that part wasn't entirely new. Suddenly the door opened again and they stuck their head out. Psyche just blinked at them.

“I’m Zion by the way" was the hesitant voice before they popped back into the hallway and disappeared. Zion huh, the admission of the name caused a smile to flitter over psyche's features. It almost felt like a small victory.
“They don't look it but Zion truly missed you this last month" the imp caretaker replied interrupting his thoughts.

“really but all we do is..." psyche trailed off frowning. Hadn't he been saying that the child, no that Zion had reminded him of his brother. Eos would have done the same thing, pretending to be indifferent and mean just to keep from showing how much they did care.

“I won't answer because I see you figured it out yourself. Still I hope you feel better" was the response.

In a slightly more melancholy mood he entered the play room again, only to find Zion there this time. Well he had been saying that the freshling should stay in the room. In fact the entire time that he played with the other children Zion stayed watching him. It wasn't a onetime occurrence either. For the next two weeks whenever he popped by Zion always stayed in the room watching him.

Finally around the winter solstice Zion actually started participating, laughing with the other children and even speaking in non-harsh tones for once at him. They even joined in adding ornaments to psyche's hair. Of course they almost had an evil smile. It was one of the more fun days of psyche's life.

“You look like you want to ask me something?" Zion asked after a week of them participating with everyone. Psyche frowned wondering how he should phrase it. The change had been well unexpected.

"No it's just well…" Psyche started. However Zion seemed to know what he was trying to say.

"You want know about my change in attitude? When we first talked you said not to feed the despair. So I haven't been. I still think you'll leave eventually but you are trying and I can give you that. You know you were right I should have stayed in the play room. See you next time” Zion replied with a smile and darted away. Psyche had a matching smile as well.

When he had ended up here that fateful storm, he hadn’t been planning to stop at the orphanage, hadn't planned on getting attached to the children. He hadn't realized he had been looking towards his arguments with Zion. It wasn't the best start but he still wanted to prove the child he could stay. He would need to see the imp about tea and adopting. He wasn't sure he would be approved living in his own but if he was then he would talk with Zion. Ask if the child wanted him to stay around. Still he knew that no matter how the process ended up turning out he would still come back here and volunteer. Maybe that lack of tea had been the best thing for him.

“See you next time and onwards Zion” Pscyche said to the open room.
