Jett didn’t expand on his time on the Surrounding; he had been so very new to the war. For half of his time there, he was just a civilian, and even towards the end—when Ares had reached out to him, had introduced him to the mirror—he was still too new at the time to be comfortable reminiscing about it. If he knew then what he knew now, things would have gone much differently.
“One of these days,” he agreed. There was a lot of information he could probably glean from the General, and he only hoped that the next time they sat down and had a long conversation, a real conversation about what was going on, he’d have something more positive to share about the Dark Mirror Court.
It was hard always coming up with excuses and reasonings for why things were going wrong; he’d have loved to have a good story about how things were going right.
When the waitress approached, he offered her a charming smile and placed his order with no hesitation; Jett was a man who knew exactly what he wanted and wasn’t afraid to ask for it. If Alex was going to pay, by all means, Jett wasn’t going to argue.
But, he always settled things in the end.
There was no debt he’d leave unpaid, even if it was something as simple as a friend treating to a meal.
It just meant he’d have to take Alex out sooner rather than later.

Placing his own order he waited till the waitress was gone, for now, that he turned his slate eyes back onto his friend. "One of these days indeed. One of these days we need to sit down and talk...without time constraints or worries of people interrupting us. Civilian or not we should find the time. Both of us have been at this for a long time...we have knowledge and experience. Perhaps we can help each other with what we know and what we've experienced." Who knows, maybe they could come up with theories and ideas...things to watch for or look into.
"Sometimes...sometimes I feel alot older than I am. I wonder where the time has gone. Other time I feel fine...civilian things help. But there are times I wonder about those I knew, in the beginning, and wonder where they are - if they are alive...or if they ran away...or just....got lost in civilian life again." Whether due to burn out or deciding this war was a loss, that no one would ever win. There were plenty of reasons to leave and not return to this war. Yet despite them all he stayed, a member who had been around for a long time...and had done many things. He couldn't even remember all the details of the things he'd seen.
One day he might get to the point of having forgotten more than people knew...because he'd have been around so long and known so much.
"I hope that even if our sides don't have a working relationship...we can still, somehow, help with your goals in the end." He didn't want to see the other chaos faction thrown under the bus, sort to speak, he wanted to help. The dark mirror court didn't seem wanting to take out the negaverse. Their goals were different...not the same as the white moon...which was good. Could both chaos factions win this war...eventually? He hoped.
"Drinks are here." Interrupted as he spied the waitress headed there way with drinks.

Jett nodded, thinking that if they were going to make any advancements, he wasn't going to be one to turn down assistance wherever it was offered. It didn't matter how hard he was trying, how much he was working, it felt like he was stalemated at every corner.
But he kept pushing, he kept trying. He wasn't the sort to give up, even when he couldn't find any progress.
He accepted the drinks the waitress offered, thanked her, and waited until she stepped away again before he exhaled. He didn't touch his drink. He propped his elbow up on the table and leaned forward just a bit.
"If there's ever a fall out between our factions, it'll probably be the Negaverse." Jett would ride this alliance as long as he could; they didn't have the numbers or manpower to fight against them if--when, he figured--the Negaverse decided to turn against them.
"You should take more care of yourself, though." Finally, he reached for his drink and took a swig, looking Alex squarely in the eyes. "I know what you mean. Feeling older. Watching time go by and wondering what happened. Why you didn't do more. What else could you have done if you'd done just one thing differently."
There were plenty of moments in his life that had been make-or-break.
He liked to think he'd never been broken.
And, to be fair, he could look at where he was and feel accomplished.
Only, there was always something nagging in the back of his mind. Always the need to do more. He didn't have the solution.
Yet.

"I agree. It likely will be my faction if, or perhaps I should say when, it happens. I'm sure someone will end it - somehow. Nothing lasts forever." He didn't want to ever call the prince his enemy. He didn't want to fight the other. It wasn't because the other out ranked him, even if he did, but rather because he liked to consider the other a friend. It wasn't because they both served chaos, even if it was different, it was because he liked the other genuinely.
"I do the best I can. It's been along time though and no matter how well I take care of myself time, and events, will take their pieces of me . It can't be helped....and I'm in too deep to turn around and go back - to try and run away. It would be just as tedious as it is to continue on." Shrugging he went to take a sip of his own drink. "One day it'll end...i hope. I just hope when it does we both make it out alive." He also hoped his relationship would survive it. Maybe when it was over, whenever that was, he would propose...maybe. He couldn't think of that now. Not with such a large secret between himself and Aiden, and the chance he might die any given night. He couldn't do that to the other...vanish without Aiden knowing he was dead...and not having a body or anything. It was unfair and cruel.
"I think we'll always be cursed with that wondering. If we had done something different - if we hadn't done something. What if we never joined this war in the first place. It's all what if's if we allow it to be...and sometimes those pile up and almost drown you. Especially when you have failures burning in the background." The other knew about Bazzite. he'd never hidden it from his friend. That was his own failure...and what a failure it was. It still hurt...it always would to.
"It's just part of all this. When this war ends I'll honestly be happy." Though he did hope chaos won, both his side and Jett's. Because if he wasn't happy it was because he was dead...due to the other side winning.
"Talking about this is always such miserable business when I can talk free and honestly. Yet I am proud of what I have done...and how far I've come." He'd been sixteen...and innocent. It had all changed fast - too fast. And here he was now.

Jett flashed a bitter smile when Alex noted that it would be a 'when'; he was being modest about all of it, himself, but he wasn't going to disagree. He had seen what the Negaverse was capable of. He knew that, in the grand scheme of things, the Dark Mirror Court was nothing--just something to be crushed and taken advantage of once they'd run out of all other purposes.
"I was older than you when I started," Jett mused. "...To be honest, I hate seeing kids out there. I look at mine and wonder if I need to start chasing away every cat, every charismatic stranger, just to keep them safe. It's my job," he insisted, and if it weren't for his good intentions he might have sounded a bit possessive of it. But, he had people he wanted to protect. He couldn't leave things unfinished; he couldn't leave them in a world where they had to fight.
He'd make sure they had the resources to; he was going to keep them safe.
...But this was going to be settled before he died, and he had no plans of going out any time soon.
"The secret is to keep fighting." He shrugged easily. "Never show all your cards. Plan. You'll stay alive." He winked, like he knew a secret about all of it. "You're smart. Wily. Being a General is nothing to laugh at, but I've got your back, too. Don't hold onto those failures forever. Can't let them eat you up, you've got to take them, process them, make things as right as you can, and move on." He shrugged. "That's all their is to it. But you let me know if there's ever anything I can do to help, all right?"
