He was grateful that his mind was giving him at least a few moments of solace to enjoy this before all his walls and safeguards resurfaced.
He wasn’t good at answering some of the things Tobias had said, but it didn’t stop him from taking a few seconds to consider before he tried his best to answer. “I appreciate that,” he said earnestly. “The reassurance that everything is gonna—that I’m not gonna lose you if you finally realize and accept that I’m not boyfriend material. But if it takes you going out with me to show you what I mean by that, I guess that’s really my only option since you won’t listen to me when I tell you that. So, yeah, I meant it when I said I’d go out with you. It should only take a date or two before you change your mind,” he said, partially teasing. There was a part of him that was serious about it—a part of him that doubted himself and his ability to maintain any substantial relationship—but there was a part of him that hoped that he was wrong, not Tobias.
He didn’t want to be un-dateable, or to deal with the self confidence problems that came with thinking like that.
He just wanted to be happy—and right now, he was ecstatic.
