Somehow, from just the kiss and the tone of voice, he knew the answer even though it hadn't even really been a question in the first place. But there was still a sweeping of dismay at the confirmation, Almandine's heart sinking inside of his chest.
His hands slid away from Arachne's back and came to rest on his waist instead; not quite pulling away, but not quite as close as they had been before. Almandine was still facing him, but his head was still turned away as well, because he wasn't sure what his expression was, either.
It was fun.
It felt good.
I miss him.
Almandine closed his eyes briefly, then opened them again. He couldn't bring himself to look Arachne in the face, as much as he wanted to; something in him was aching in a way he wasn't used to and didn't know how to deal with.
"Are you sure?" he asked quietly. Not angrily. Not in upset. Soft and serious and almost pained, but not quite, because Almandine was still trying to figure it all out. "Can you really say that you don't want that - him - anymore and mean it?"
What answer do I even want?

Can you really say that?Arachne knew there was a small part of him that did miss Mag Mell and what they'd had, and probably always would. What they'd shared had been good at the time but it hadn't been something either of them could sustain. He'd come to terms with 'them' being over after his little meltdown and he'd been okay with things. No, was okay with things. Mag Mell, Arin, was a good friend to have and while it still hurt it was better for both of them. He was glad Arin was happy with Luc and him? He looked at Almandine, what he could see of the other man's face, and still felt that flutter in his chest. The same one he'd felt a long time ago when he'd first met Rickard. The excitement and the desire and the want for more of whatever might be there. The same little flutter that was always missing from his flings and one night stands. Almandine wasn't just a body he wanted. The senshi was someone he wanted. "Alma, look at me. Please?" He reached up with one hand, fingers gentle on the other man's jaw as he nudged his face back toward him. He wanted to see Almandine when he answered him. "There will be a bit of me that always misses him because, and don't tell anyone, I'm a sap. But missing something that happened in the past isn't the same as still wanting it. What I want right now I have right here," He tightened the arm around Almandines waist in a quick hug. "That little smile you give me that I don't think you give anyone else that makes my chest feel funny. The conversations we have because you're brilliant and I like hearing new perspectives. The way you lace your fingers with mine without even thinking about it. Those are what I want and I couldn't get those things with anyone but you."

The silence stretched out between them. Almandine could feel it rising, could feel it beginning to burrow in his chest, filling the space that was supposed to be where he breathed. He didn't want to hear the answer to this; he didn't want to hear how Mag Mell was the one that Arachne wanted.
Why?
Fingers touched his jaw, very gently; Almandine allowed his face to be turned, only resisting a small amount before giving in, his cheeks a little flushed, eyes finally rising to meet Arachne's. The weight of the words sank into him - he felt as though, somehow, this was a mistake, he shouldn't have asked, everything was going to fall apart now and then where would he be?
But Arachne's arms were coming around him, warm and firm and solid. Almandine's breath hitched in his chest, heart pounding just a little harder, hands coming up to rest on Arachne's upper arms, not to push him away, but to just - hold on.
I couldn't get those things with anyone but you.
Color slowly seeped deeper into Almandine's face. The red suffused his cheeks, spread outwards, until his whole body felt warm - he ducked his head, burying his face into the crook of Arachne's neck, fingers tightening on the sleeves of his uniform.
"...really?" he asked, and his voice was quiet, mumbled into fabric, barely audible. "You...want me..?"

"Do you think I'd be here if I didn't?" He smiled softly, turning his head to brush his lips against Almandine's temple. He knew Alma had hid himself not wanting to hear the answer or wanting to know what he might say but it did feel good like this. Having Alma tucked close seemed like how it was supposed to be It would have been nicer under better circumstances without all the emotional mess but he'd take it. "Still a little shocked you want me honestly." His tone was slightly teasing, wanting to lighten the mood a bit if he could. Arachne didn't want the other man to worry too much, or over think things, but he was being honest with him. Almandine deserved that at least.

Those little kisses across his temple were soft and sweet; Almandine liked the feel of them, the way they made small shivers run up and down his spine, the way they made him feel warm all the way through his chest, expanding outwards.
The hands on Arachne's arms shifted down again, moved to wedge under Arachne's, slide around his waist. For a moment, he just stood there, letting himself be surrounded, and then he leaned back, just enough so that he could look at Arachne's face.
"I like you," said Almandine simply, as if it was a fact - which it was. He liked being around Arachne, liked being with him, liked talking with him; long conversations about the world and about people and about whatever else was on their minds. And he liked kissing him, liked having his warmth wrap itself around him every time Arachne hugged him.
He liked it all.
Almandine's eyes were as quiet and serious as ever as they searched Arachne's. His hand slid up, came to rest on Arachne's chest, and curled in the fabric there. The truth felt strange and unfamiliar on his tongue, not angry or upset or desperate, but just like before - simple fact.
"I want you to want me, not Mag Mell."

"I like you too." He smiled, leaning forward to rest their forehead's together. Hearing Almandine say that he liked him sent a curl of warmth through him that he liked a little more than he probably should have. Being with Almandine was starting to get addicting and he should have been scared of that but couldn't actually bring himself to be. He moved one hand to set it over Almandine's on his chest, tilting his head to brush a light kiss against the other's lips. "I do want you sweetheart, more than I probably should." It felt god saying that though, admitting that he wanted Almandine. He knew it was going to be a lot of work but for the first time in a long time he felt like he was willing to put that work in. Helping Almandine purify, getting him settled in a new life, growing what they had between them, felt like something worth doing even with whatever headaches would come along with it.

I like you too.
It felt wonderful, soft and warm. Almandine's eyes fluttered as Arachne's forehead came to rest against his, his breath leaving him in slightly uneven sounds at the nearness and the words. Arachne's hand came over his, and a light kiss followed, almost too light, Almandine's eyes half lidded, tracing Arachne's face.
Almandine leaned forward, tentatively nuzzling his face against Arachne's. His breath was visible in the chill night air.
"I'm glad," he murmured softly. "I want you, too."
Hesitantly, he pressed a very light kiss to Arachne's cheek, just below his eye, letting his lips linger before he drew back, though not far at all, faces still together, foreheads touching.
"And I...like when you talk to me like that."

"Like what sweetheart?" He smiled, glad that Almandine seemed to have relaxed and wasn't worrying for the moment. Knowing the other senshi was likely to be jealous was a good piece of information to have and probably meant they'd have to have a more serious conversation after he purified. They were bound to run into more people who were 'friendly' with him as time went on.

For the first time in a while, color seeped into Almandine's cheeks. He didn't blush often, or much, but Arachne had a way of pulling every reaction out of him, however unusual.
"...yes," he said softly. "Like that."

Arachne laughed softly before pressing a soft kiss to the other man's lips. "How about we find somewhere comfortable to sit and I can do that until we have to part ways for the evening?" He didn't have anywhere else to be and after everything spending the night with Almandine wouldn't be a bad idea. He could make up for it later in the week and take Thisbe out hunting for youma.

His arms came up around Arachne's neck, Almandine pressing himself closer. He nuzzled his face against Arachne's, a small smile tugging at his lips; the same small, private smile that was rarely given and only given to the man in front of him.
His mouth found Arachne's for a long, warm kiss before he pulled back, biting his lip, cheeks flushed.
"Yes, please."

When Almandine pulled back from the kiss he reached up and ran his fingers along the other man's jaw. "Lets get out of the cold a bit, come on." He lead Almandine to the other end of the roof. There was a small space between the door into the building and the edge of the roof where someone, probably a resident of the building, had left a bench. This late at night it wasn't likely someone would come up and bother them and the bench meant they had somewhere mostly comfortable to sit. He sat down before tugging the other senshi to join him. "Here, Out of the wind so we wont have to worry about getting too old if we stay out here."

He followed Arachne over to the bench, feeling the cool breeze following them. It wasn't a frozen night, but it wasn't exactly balmy, either, the air cold, breath visible as Almandine stood beside Arachne as he made himself comfortable.
He paused for a moment, thinking, then slid sideways onto Arachne's lap, as if this was a perfectly normal thing to do, both arms curling around Arachne's neck.
Almandine got comfortable, then said cautiously, "Is this...all right?"

Arachne's arm draped over Almandine's thighs, curling around them to help the other man balance. "Perfectly fine sweetheart." He smiled, tilting his headup so he could brush a kiss against Almandine's cheek. It was going to be nice when they could do things like this without having to be powered up and hiding on a rooftop somewhere. Someone's couch with a nice fluffy blanket would make a much better setting. Much warmer too.

The warm weight of Arachne's arm across his legs made a shiver go through Almandine, one that was likely felt with the close proximity. He leaned into the kiss to his cheek, arms tightening a little around Arachne's neck, the blush growing again at sweetheart. It felt absurd to be so happy about something so silly and so simple; he wasn't used to that.
Almandine tipped his head, resting his forehead against Arachne's again, letting out a breath.
"I'm...very glad I met you," he said, after a moment. "I don't know how I...would have lasted in the Negaverse."
