Zeke hit hard enough, now, to make Ever stumble a little -- but not enough to really throw him off balance. Only a moment, wincing but still cheerful, and then he swung back, throwing his weight into the blow. He wasn't even sure what he'd be getting out of this, but apparently Ever really wanted to win.
"Kicking your a**? A little. It's an important reminder, I think."
Zeke gave a strained grunt as the dagger took another solid chunk from his shield, and probably left a pretty hefty bruise as well. However, it only chased away the grin for a moment. Lips twitched, drawing back along pearly whites again as he regained his footing. "Reminder of what, sweetheart?"
He stepped in again, but this time the axe didn't come up. This time it was his free hand coming for Ever, to tangle in the front if his shirt so he could drag him in against his body. Now certainly wasn't the best time, and with a wager on the line, but Zeke had never really been able to help himself when it came to the blonde. When Ever was around, his impulse control was at its weakest.
Head tipping, he leaned in to steal the taste of the other man's lips, fierce and fast.

The kiss was meant to disarm, probably, but -- not this time, it seemed. Zeke got close and Ever caught the front of his shirt to hold him there, even as he brought the dagger sharply across his stomach. It was quick, and a little bit mean, and came with a smile that spread across his face.
"That when you take the upper hand, it's because I'm letting you have it." But his tone wasn't unkind. It was warmer, pleased.
It certainly hurt, digging in uncomfortably in a way he knew would leave a mark for later, but the shorter man didn't jerk away from it. If anything, he seemed to be leaving into it, even as a strained grunt escaped against Ever's smiling lips. Zeke flicked his tongue out, painting a wet line across them, before grinning back. "Oh, I've never forgotten that," he almost purred, just as warm.
His chances if winning this fight were quickly dwindling, and with them, how seriously he was taking it. Now it seemed to be more about having fun, rather than a show of strength, but that didn't mean he was giving up.
Affection lingered only a second or two longer before the former Mist was bringing the ax up, not to seeing it this time, but to sleep the handle into the other man's stomach.
"But don't think I'm not looking forward to the day where I dwon't need you to let me." Ever had the advantage now, still, but she was right in his heels.

"I'm not sure that day will come, Zeke." Even as he said it, Ever thought about it: Amory in the back of his mind pushing him to use the charge that thrummed through his weapon, pushing him to do something big and showy. So much for not a show of strength.
He lunged in, letting the magic go -- but instead of striking against Zeke's shield, it turned back on his own. Ever spluttered blood, spat, surprised and then annoyed and then amused. "s**t. That's the first time I used that."

Had he not already given Lagertha the green light, her Runes blazing to life a split second before Zeke noticed the blood, he never would have released the charge. Or at least not right that second.
There wasn't time to be relieved by the Blonde's chuckle, to realize he was fine, despite the blood. She's an came down, and with it a raging blast of swirling wind that hit the taller man point blank in the chest and sent him flying backwards.
"s**t!" The curse fell from his lips as the blade of his ax hit the ground, and half a second later the weapon was fine and Zeke was moving swiftly across the field. "Ever!" He sank down to crouch beside him, wiping a spot of blood off the man's lip with his thumb, free hand going for Ever's shoulder. "What the ******** happened, why are you bleeding?" And it of nowhere. It was alarming.
And only now, after the fact, did the other Life's words, prior to Zekes attack, sink in, leaving Zeke frowning, but took the clear and immediate worry from tanned features.
Now he was reeling, too. With his weapon gone -- suddenly, instead, a cigarette case tucked away into his pocket -- Ever leaned forward on his knees and shuddered a bit, spitting blood at his feet. It was, frankly, an alarming amount of blood, with no real source.
And, in the back of his mind, Amory laughing at him. Naturally.
"I dunno, but if it was supposed to do this --" He spat again, swiped at his face, grimacing. "I'm glad it didn't hit you."

Ever seemed alright, which took a little of the immediate worry from the other Life's face, but he was still spitting blood—an awful lot of blood—and Zeke didn't like that.
"Are you okay?" For lack of anything more intelligent to say. At the back of his mind he knew they were within the wards, and that Ever shouldn't have been injured, but that wasn't the party of his brain he was reacting with. More and more he was finding that his responses to various situations are more emotion filled than rational, and he want sure how he feels about that.
But he did know that he cared about Ever, and he lay a steadying have on his back, ready to help him up when he was ready.
"I think...I need a glass of water." He dragged up the corner of his shirt to wipe at his face, woozy and a little off-balance, still tasting copper on the back of his tongue. It made him grimace, eyes closed, and lean into Zeke.
"Or, better yet, a drink."

Zeke shifted his arm out of the way so Ever was leaning in against his side instead. "I think we can arrange that." They both have booze stashed away in their rooms. Water wasn't a bad idea though. Hazel eyes dipped to the dark stain on the hem of Ever's shirt.
Slipping his other arm under Ever's legs, the former Mist deftly scooped the thinner man up into his arms.
Ever made a sound of protest that melted into a slow sigh and then gave up, letting Zeke sweep him away. Mostly, right now, he wanted a shower and a drink and if Zeke was hoping for more than that he was going to have to cope.
He let his head loll back a little and closed his eyes.
