The words You do have an S-Rank a** would have been right out of Terry's mouth had he been a.) much more familiar with the other hunter and b.) more confident in his social skills that he wouldn't come off as creepy or flirting. So instead, he went with a different topic altogether, "It would be nice if we could find a way to use dummies and golems on missions instead of having to send real people."
Still sticking close, Terry bridged the gap between them to snag the shield's toothy design against Rhys' arm.

He felt Terry's shield dig into his FEAR shield again, the discomfort quite bordering on pain very clear in his expression. He didn't say anything though and, as he stepped back to put distance between them again he swung hard at the man's weapon-wielding arm in hopes of getting him to back away a little more. Spar or not, the pain was certainly real enough that he wanted to avoid as much of it as he possibly could.
"On surveillance missions that's something I would get on board with," he agreed, taking slow and steadying breaths. "Just the ********' idea of going in essentially blind bugs me, would be cool if we could send in a dummy or a golem or somethin'."

It was less the Life Hunter actively putting distance between them after that slash and more Rhys' raw power that all but bulldozed Terry backwards. He even felt the soles of his shoes dig furrows into the soil in a manner that was reminiscent to, well, all of the spars he'd been engaged in. Again that expectation of a blood arch forming was dashed, but let's be real if that had been what really happened, Terry would have just laid down in surrender.
"It's a pity we don't have a factory of sorts, or at least one in a scale that is capable of mass-producing drones to be runic'd. It'd be like throwing NPCs at the Big Bad. But given our environment that doesn't sound like a feasible idea."

"Nah," he said with a sigh and nod. "Doubt they'd see a reason to do that when it's cheaper to get us out in the field."
He barely gave Terry a second to say all that when he jumped in and slashed again, eyes narrowed when he felt his blade make contact with the Lifer's shield. He was more the other way around, always surprised when there was blood or something similar spraying all over the place, so no hopes were being dashed here.
"Would be nice, though."

"We certainly don't have a shortage of humans," Terry would have continued with maybe a quote from one of those grimdark edgy mcedgerton animes about humanity being cattle or a virus or something along those lines. But again, he wasn't fully comfortable with Rhys enough to not maintain that detached stoicism.
He winced at the strike that while it left no wounds, the pain lingered and it made movement difficult for him. Especially when he'd been such a shut in whose only method of exercise was walking to and from the kitchen and customers. Maybe it meant he could manage in a no-time-limit marathon but this spar was a clear reminder he was a Lifer.

Another snort; Rhys was starting to think Terry had a knack for maybe the grim sort of humor, which was a kind he could appreciate. Or at least, he could relate to it on some level. Everyone on Deus could, now that he thought about it. "Not even a little bit of a shortage, nope," he echoed the thought before attacking the next opening he saw.
"Ooh, or golems to go around and do the chores for us would be cool, too. Or at least to clean the ********' basement bathrooms." He made a face as the memory of his last "shower" in there came to the fore of his mind.

Agata would insist Terry try to use his charge attack especially after that devastating blow. But the intermediate Life trainee was more interested in getting this fight over and done with and should he succeed with his charge, he would be prolonging the fight. He was much more alright with the narrative structure of losing to a dummy than another living person, strange as that sounded.
"Careful," he panted, "That's how the robot uprising starts." Before weakly trying to bring down the shield on Rhys' sword.

Rhys dodged but still felt Terry's weapon dig into the shield on his arm a little bit, causing him to wince.
"I thought golems were all controlled by us via remote control or something." He pulled back before sidestepping and slashing again, once more aiming for Terry's chest and potentially his weapon-wielding arm. Barring runic weapons every hunter was basically a sitting duck out in the field without their weapon, so he was hoping Terry would be able to process and respond well enough to his attack.
Sparring was for learning, after all.

That last slash had Terry dismissing Agata as he fell back, collapsing to the ground with a dull thud. And a groan. That was important to mention because at least he wasn't unconscious.
"Sure, remote controlled at the start." He coughed, "But FEAR isn't fully understood. How we've managed to get to where we are right now sounds like it's still the tip of the iceberg."
He tried to sit up but no, he fell back and stayed there. "I'm done," he stated. Just to be sure Rhys wouldn't make any follow up strikes on his fallen form.

Considering the way Terry collapsed on the ground, Rhys had already assumed the man was done for today and desummoned Zephira. The trainee was, however, glad to hear the man groan because it mean the wouldn't have to carry dead weight to the infirmary. He didn't doubt that he could, just...he didn't want to have to.
"Fair point," he said, grunting as he flopped down next to him. "And I figured you were done."
It took a little while but Rhys got comfortable in his spot, leaning back on his hands and looking off at the buildings in the distance. His expression was contemplating for that time, and then...
"You hungry? I'm pretty ********' hungry..."

At that moment, Terry would much rather wallow in self-pity or continue their earlier conversation about golems. He didn't have much of an appetite, "No, thank you," he murmured, still lying on the ground and fully accepting of his performance that he was a useless piece of refuse when he was on a battlefield.
"I can crawl my way back to the dorms. You needn't worry about me," The monotone was open for interpretation of either sincerity or sarcasm.

The monotone still threw him, especially in moments like these when he couldn't tell if the guy was being sarcastic or what. That's what it sounded most like to him, so he shrugged and slowly, with an equally slow groan, got to his feet.
"Alright, cool with me," he said as he dusted himself off. "I'm headin' for a snack then. See ya around."
He gave the Lifer's leg a nudge with his foot before starting to walk off. He looked back at the man just once, brow raised in a mix of confusion and concern, before ultimately shrugging it off and going for that snack.
