Jolanta lifted a hand to take off his glasses, rubbing the bridge of his nose with the other hand. She really was a tough one to deal with, wasn't she? He'd say that it wasn't anything like the women he was used to dealing with but he didn't deal with all that many of them these days outside of the woman in charge of giving him his various work and those associated with work. Still, she was among the toughest of them to deal with so far and he'd only spent a small about of time with her thus far.

Turning to look over at her as she started to go about talking about her upcoming shower, about how he should apparently help one another. It was something that actually made his eyes go a bit wide, cheeks coloring, before he looked away, "I am... unaware of the bathing practices of the Water Tribe but I am not about to learn of them first hand, thank you." He muttered, feeling that it would be best if they just waited until he got them to a town. Once he'd done that she could go about getting her bath then. It would be safer and more... appropriate if you asked him.

"You're the one that has people waiting for you... wherever it is that you're leading us. As such it should be me that tests out the more dangerous paths. One never knows what might be ahead." Be it loose rocks, dangerous beasts, or bandits he felt that he should be the one that went ahead. Especially since she wasn't armed in anyway that he'd noticed while he carried a great sword on his back. Shaking his head he tried to turn his focus away from the path and to the area around them, searching for anything that might offer them shelter, even if it was just an overhang of rocks. It would be better then nothing, especially given the lightning that was now showing itself to be a threat as well. Shelter was the priority now above everything else, before one of them got struck.

Nadiya just raised her chin boldly as she walked past Steel Eyes. She had a point about the names and he knew it. Hah. She chastised him quietly, who was the clever one now? Not that he had ever been a bragger to begin with, but she did wish he would at least relent about his name. Knowing a name was like giving some rare sweet to Nadiya since she always felt as if she could read a lot about a person after knowing their names. Even though the nickname Steel Eyes had fit him from afar Nadiya simply felt like it wasn't meant for him completely. Especially not with the way he reacted to her teasing.

Raising a hand to try and stifle her laughter Nadiya nodded, "Got it." She finally managed before waving a hand towards him, "Don't overthink it. I really was just teasing you after all I'm not the type of gal to bathe with just any man no matter how attractive they are." Seeing how sincerely he took her teasing statements could have had the potential to make her feel a bit of guilt, but those reactions were simply too adorable and priceless.

"So what if I do? That doesn't make you worthless." Nadiya retorted sharply, "I'm not the type of person to let someone sacrifice their well-being for me, not when I'm quite capable of taking care of myself." How silly! He was a hired sword so why was he acting like such a hero? Her gaze narrowed thoughtfully as she took a peek once more towards that strange marking and then back to his gaze. Steel Eyes... More like Considerate Eyes really. Not that she minded that, but it did baffle her as to why he wanted to seem so distant from everything. They hadn't even spent a whole day together since the fight and she was already seeing someone who was a lot more than that behind those strange lenses, "I'm also super petite and light on my feet so you know what? You take care of yourself so you can stay in one piece and defend us if something attacks and I'll go judge this path, we don't have much choice after all." Her voice was stern and before he could really react Nadiya bolted up ahead. Beneath her feet rocks skittered and the rains had already made the dirt muddy and slick, but the lightning above and her own stubbornness and refusal to let someone get injured for her pushed the Matori to continue onwards.

Of course she would soon be biting her own words as the path gave way beneath her feet and she found herself sliding downwards towards the opposite side of where she had started racing up the path, "Eeep!" The gasp left her as she braced herself for the slide down the rest of the path. All around her the rains were starting to get heavier which only served to speed up her descent down the remainder of the path.

"Good." He was glad to hear that she wasn't actually being honest with her desire to have him bathe with her. Such things weren't the sort that he was about to indulge in when it came to someone that he barely knew... then again he doubted he'd do so with someone he knew well either. It just seemed to be an odd practice and not one that should be done with a woman that wasn't your mate. At least that was the way the too serious man saw it.

"Your size is also what makes it dangerous, what if something dangerous is lurking up there? You're not even armed." Jolanta felt he should point out, not wanting the woman to get in over her head because it was sure to make everything far more complicated. Surely she had to know that good intentions and spunk were going to save her from bandits! Sighing he moved to follow along after her, pausing at the foot of the path that she insisted on trying to climb on her own just because she was lighter weight then he was. There were a million reasons why she shouldn't be heading up the cliff, first and foremost being that she was in far too much of a hurry!

Before he could even think to call out to her to take it slower and more cautiously it was already too late and she was falling. Praying to Dafiel and Lurin both for strength he started forward toward where the girl was sliding too. It wasn't toward him, which meant she was falling in a different direction. Did that mean she'd end up tumbling off the path entirely? Not a thought he savored as he tried to get to where he might be able to catch her if she did end up falling off the path completely.

Ooooh, now he had done it. Nadiya's pride was at stake here! Such words that even dared to hint at her inability to handle danger made the Matori even more determined to push forward. Certainly she understood it herself that she wasn't a huge fighter and that in many fights she was for the most part a weaker target. Hearing it, however, from Steel Eyes made her frustrated and so she continued forward. Really though underneath all that the young woman was simply terrified of the storm - something that she truly didn't want to confess ever to the Yaeli.

Letting out a yell Nadiya braced herself for impact but instead found herself caught on gnarled treeroots that had grown from the cliffside. It wasn't that she had slid over the edge, but rather had found a small path that cut through the middle of the cliffs towards what appeared to be a big opening, "Hey!" She called out through the rain and waved her arms in the direction of the approaching figure. Had he been trying to run to her? It almost made her tempted to believe that he cared, but then again he did probably want that money at the end of all this. Nadiya simply studied him as he got closer and closer to where she rested on the ground before another rumble of thunder caught her attention.

It was best if she got up so that they could head over to that crevice - if they were fortunate it would be a decently sized cave for both of them to fit in. However as she moved to get up from her position in the rocks the Matori let out a sudden cry of pain and lurched forward with a wince. Okay so perhaps her ankle had twisted during that fun ride down the cliffside. Nadiya reached out for the closest thing that she could hold onto so that she could raise her injured leg to take the pressure off of it.

Jolanta gave a sighing sound as he spotted the girl, seeing that she had been able to catch herself in the roots of some odd, gnarled looking tree. It would appear as though he hadn't really needed to go chasing after her, huh? It had only made him look a bit foolish in the end he thought to himself before he moved to closed the gap between the two of them, "You should take it more slowly." He told her, not wanting to have a repeat of what had just happened... or for something worse to follow. They really needed to find some shelter before that ended up being the case.

He took a few more steps toward her, waiting near to her, and set to glancing around looking for anywhere that they could hide out for a while. Before he was able to spot anything he heard a cry of pain from the girl next to him, something that caused him to whirl around instantly, "Miss Nadiya?" He watched as she got up onto one of her feet, seeming to be favoring the other one. It was a sight that had him feeling a sudden sense of déjà vu. This sort of thing had happened before but it was someone else that he was trying to look after that had injured a leg. He really was starting to think that his curse really was flaring up. He'd have to worry about that later though, they really needed to get her somewhere safe.

After making sure all of his things were secure Jolanta stepped in closer to the Matorian girl, reached out, easily swept her up and off of her feet, "Start looking for a place to hide out. That is your only job for the moment, Miss Nadiya." He'd have to see about taking care of the rest since she'd gotten injured. Not that he cared or anything! It was just that he wanted to get her back to her brother so that he could get paid was all.

Nadiya's gaze narrowed in protest as he approached her, "We'll see." She replied quietly though the back of her neck was warming from the spreading flush at being caught in her current situation. She had simply wanted to prove to him that she was capable of handling herself and what had she done? The one time I slip up...literally. Before she could offer any witty remarks or try to move once more the petite Matori found herself flying upwards into his arms.

And for a split second she almost forgot her frustrations as she found herself blinking in surprise at those silver eyes. Steel Eyes...he's Steel Eyes and not that person. She had to repeat to herself. This was not that damn story she had spun all those years ago when she was a simply apprentice. It had been a fantasy, a different response to the way that others had viewed the strangers from across the Seas. That was all it was.

Turning her gaze quickly away Nadiya tried to focus on his instructions, "When I fell I noticed that there was an opening to the left there." She pointed through the rains, "Funny that we would have walked right past it had I not slipped down." She remarked quietly, her normal snappy and perky attitude replaced by a softer, more thoughtful countenance as she studied the path ahead, "Let's head there...just be careful? Are you really carrying me right now? I can try to walk on my own, I'll just be a bit slow is all so let me down?" She rambled as she glanced back at him sheepishly. Was she really going to be carried like this? It was definitely not doing good for her argument that she was quite capable! Nor was it helping her out since she kept getting tempted to see him as something different from the Steel Eyes that he continued persisting as. Instead she was tempted to see him more as a Knight of sorts -but that was one of her stories speaking surely. In frustration Nadiya wiggled in his arms - a weak protest since she couldn't get out of his arms on her own, "Seriously though I think I'll be fine...." Though she winced at the words because just trying to move her legs to protest had caused a faint pain to move up her left ankle, "You know what? I could probably try to walk, but we're so close so I guess I'll allow you to carry me like this....just this once....because I could walk if I wanted, you know. Let's just go already." She pursed her lips in frustration before glancing up ahead, away from his face, and onto the goal - that cavern opening before them. It seemed to be one of the many that she had been in before as a child growing up along similar cliffs. It should have enough room for them and allow them to dry off while the rains continued to pour down around them.

Jolanta gave a small nod as she mentioned having seen a spot during her fall. All he head to do was head in the direction that she was pointing and they would be able to get out of the storm at long last. A shame that it hadn't happened before the Matorian had fallen and gotten hurt. No matter, once she was safely in the cave then they would decide what to do next about that injury. Starting forward toward where the cave was supposed to be located he found himself glancing down at her as she asked if he was really going to be carrying her, a question that was met with a long stare as though he didn't believe that she'd actually just asked him that.

Giving a sigh he then nodded, "Yes, I will be. If you walk on an injured leg it will only get worse. Best that you just leave it to me... and yes, I will be careful." He made it a few paces toward their destination before the girl in his arms suddenly started to chatter in a manner that seemed to be a bit on the rambling side. First saying that she'd be fine to walk on her own before changing her mind and deciding that it was fine for him to carry her since they were so close to their destination.

He refrain from sighing again and just focused on the goal that lay before them instead. The cavern that she was leading them to was a small one, likely too small for them to build a fire, but at least big enough that they could both fit in it to avoid the rain provided that he stooped over a bit to get through the door that was a bit shorter then the room inside. Squatting down he scooted his way into the cave, then moved to the back of it, setting Nadiya down carefully where the ground seemed a bit less rocky. Shrugging out of his pack and his sheathed great sword he set those aside before he said, "Once the rains cease I will start a fire at the opening of the cave so we can get dried out."

Nadiya met his stare with her own though she felt like melting in his arms. For someone who was usually super spunky and bold this was rather embarrassing for some reason. It had been a while since she had really relied on any for anything and being carried by the man she had just been teasing was not on her list of favorite things to do. Though if she was to be sincere it did for a second feel nice to have someone carrying her - but only for a second of course!

As she was placed on the ground Nadiya bit her inner cheek and slowly stretched out her leg. It was probably a minor strain that would be okay with some reason. At least that was her hope as she fought against the slight pain to unlace her boots so that she could set them to the side. She pursed her lips thoughtfully as she slowly moved her fingers along her leg and checked for injuries. Other than some scrapes and bruises that had occurred from her earlier fall and some new ones from the more recent escapade the girl seemed to be in one piece, "That works." She commented in response, "I just hope the rains let up soon." As if laughing at her hope the skies opened up even more as a torrent of rain made the outside world seemingly pure white. Moving her own bag behind her for support Nadiya sighed, "Well so much for that I suppose. What do we do now?" She studied Steel Eyes carefully, "Time to bond over some good stories, right? Then again you do prefer to be the silent sort..." Her voice wobbled a bit though as the cool air of the cave mixed with her damp clothing and caused her body to slightly shiver.

Turning to look out of the entrance of the cave as the rains started to fall in sheets that seemed to erase the world outside leaving just the two of them. It was something that caused him to sigh a bit before he moved to sit down away from the entrance, not wanting to risk getting anymore soaked then he already was... as though it such a thing were possibly.

He gave Nadiya a glance as she mentioned that it was time for them to bond. A strange thought indeed since he was presently closer to her then he'd ever thought that he would be with anyone again. Ever. He'd especially never planned on being in such a position with a mainlander since he was no fan of them when he was younger. He'd just seen them as a dangerous threat that was to be avoided or driven off. At least that was what he'd thought of them when he was back on Yael. Presently he saw them more as a group to be used to make money so that he could continue to survive from day to day.

Blinking his silver eyes slowly he said, "I am as you say... though if you wish to talk you can."

Nadiya chuckled, "Of course you would say something like that." The Matori tilted her head as she studied him and tried to push past her earlier embarrassment, "I suppose I can heckle you for a good story another day." She commented quietly before patting the ground next to her, "I can talk for hours, but honestly if you would like I can do something else to pass the time for us. But neither of us need to catch a cold first so we should probably get warm somehow..."

She paused and grinned playfully at him, "But I won't torment you by asking for too much so if you don't mind?" She patted the area next to her, "We can sit back to back and I won't bother you that much, but I am getting pretty chilled." Nadiya bit her bottom lip, "Please?" It wasn't like she was trying to hit on him, but her body was completely chilled and it was hard to focus with how badly she just wanted to shiver. So hopefully if they simply had their backs pressed up to each other then they would be okay? As she waited for his response the Matori dug through her bag and picked up something in a wooden case, "There." She held it in her hands before blinking at Steel Eyes, "So what do you say Mister Mystery? My brother is a merchant, but I'm an entertainer so let me entertain you?"

"Yes, another day." They weren't likely to meet up again so he supposed saying that wouldn't really be that much of a risk. After he got her back to her brother they would be going their separate ways and he wouldn't have to think too much more on all of the strange things that had lead them to where they were now. It was as though the Gods of Yael and the Gods of Matori were conspiring. Giving Nadiya a glance he asked, "Getting warmed up is a good idea. The place is far too small for a fire though." There was no way the cave could hold both of them and a fire, it was why he was hoping the rains would die down sooner then later... but they showed no real signs of slowing down.

"Sit back to back?" He murmured thoughtfully. It mean sharing warmth with one another. A good plan if a bit more intimate and close quarters then he'd like. He couldn't let his worries or old prejudices get to him though. If it was the only way to keep warm until a fire became an option then it was something that they had to do. Especially given that Nadiya was injured. Being injured and then getting sick on top of it, it wouldn't be good for her, and might even end up with her laid up for a while so she could recover from it all. He finally gave a nod of consent, shifting how he was sitting so that she could lean against his back.

As she mentioned that she was an entertainer and offered to entertain he gave a small glance over his shoulder before looking ahead once more, "If you'd like." Better she entertained them so as to avoid those hours of talking she'd mentioned she could do, worried that all the talking would involve more questions that were tossed his way. How could he answer without revealing what sort of person he was? Something that was likely to drive her off into a storm with an injured leg. Best not to do that.

Nadiya smirked ever so faintly, "I'll hold ya to that." She whispered before settling in against his back. Ah, it was nice and solid just as she had imagined. Closing her eyes for a brief moment Nadiya just sat in silence as she allowed herself to rest there and try to soak up the stirring heat. This was much better. As she gathered up what was left of her strength the Matori's fingers unclasped the lock on the small wooden box. Inside rested an ornate flute decorated with faded vines and golden leaves. Her brother had given it to her ages ago and the woman still carried it with her everywhere - it was such a dear piece that she had refused to leave it in the trunk and kept it in the satchel at her side always.

"I won't lie to you I don't know how much I have in me, but I'll try." She whispered faintly before raising the instrument to her lips. After a few moments her lashes fluttered towards her cheeks as she focused on playing a gentle melody that she knew by heart. It was the same one she had played up in the cliffs of Matori whenever she felt discouraged or frightened. It was a soothing melody that floated around them and held the patience and beauty of the ocean itself. A gentle lullaby to pass the time...

"Don't push yourself too hard." Jolanta said in response to her mentioning that she didn't know how much that she had in her. He supposed given the afternoon she'd had that it was understandable. The Yaelian turned toward the entrance of the cave but outside it was still just sheets of rain that made it impossible to see all that far. It meant that they were likely stuck here for a while, perhaps even for the night. It wasn't a thought that he cared for since it meant that much more time for those of the caravan to worry about the girl.

As the one behind him started to play Jolanta lifted his hand up, removing his glasses, and set about trying to clean them off once more. The music was a welcome addition to the sound of beating rain, the two going together well, and made it so that the two of them weren't sitting in awkward silence all night. If the circumstances were somehow vastly different but they still ended up in the cave to avoid the rain he would think that it wasn't so bad a situation. As it was though he should probably see about getting her back to her brother sooner then later, or perhaps to a healer first and then her brother. He supposed the order would depend one which person they found first.

That would have to wait though, until morning, until they'd both had time to rest, dry out, and warm up. He'd keep an eye on the weather, build a fire when it was possible, but otherwise he'd stay right where he was so the Matorian could borrow what warm he had to offer.

As Nadiya continued to play her melodies the girl's eyes began to feel rather heavy. Along with the eventful day and the pouring rain her body just felt so exhausted. Having the support of someone else also helped to ease her weary mind towards sleep. Even though she continued to play for a time the Matori's fingers began to slowly slip from the flute. As her hand quietly dropped to her side Nadiya found herself pressing closer towards the warmth. She was just so tired and so out of sorts that she didn't really realize much of what she was doing until she was already curled up against Steel Eyes with her head on his shoulder.

The petite woman's breathing slowed as she fell asleep against the Yaeli. In the dim light one could see how worn down she was as she slept.Quiet breathing left her mouth that slightly open as her head continued to rest on his shoulder. In her sleep she would move ever so slightly in her position, but she would still stay next to her companion until the early morning sun would break through the fog of darkness and beckon them to a new day...

Jolanta stayed on guard for most of the night, nodding off a couple times here and there, but otherwise wanted to keep an eye on things. During his time in Matori he'd seen some of the beasts that lived here, creatures that were far bigger then he was, and he didn't want to risk the two of them getting eaten by such a monster. Instead he meant to keep an eye out, keep the two of them safe, and keep an eye on the rain that ceased to let up easily. When morning finally came he found himself wanting to make a fire... but at the moment it seemed a bit pointless. The sun was up, everything was warming up, and after the rain it would be hard to find anything that was burnable. They'd just have to sit in the sun to warm up and dry off he thought to himself. It wasn't ideal but it would work. Or so he hoped.

Glancing back at Nadiya he gave her a once over before shifting so that he could ease her down onto the ground. Once there he got up and scoop up his pack, carrying it to the entrance of the cave, and set about laying his things out in the sun so that they would dry more quickly. A pair of fresh, dry clothes were something that he'd be more then happy to get his hands on. He found himself wondering if he should do the same for Nadiya. In the end he decided against it as he wasn't really a fan of the idea of pawing through her things. He'd leave that to her thus saving himself the trouble that might go along with such a thing.

Once everything was laid out he found himself thinking on breakfast. He was alright with fasting and waiting until they got to a village but what of Nadiya? Was she going to want something? On top of that he wondered if he should devise a way to carry her to the village more easily... or should he just carry the girl on his back? It would mean finding a different means of carrying his pack and sword though since those were what normally hung on his back. It really was a lot to think about. This was why he didn't like escort missions he thought to himself, giving a slight sight as he did so.
