-- New Day Post --
The court mage would admit that the lesson yesterday was anything but normal, more so with the arrival of those two with the male deciding to perform for someone special , the female who came by alongside the noble. Definitely sweet, but because he had to show at the tavern for the date, it was anything but pleasant for Lerato. In fact, he was still feeling quite nervous about how the talk would turn out; it was only now that the two would have the free time to sort things out and Kayne would definitely be the one overseeing how it goes, even if it would be mostly behind the scenes because of him having to help out as the chef in the tavern. There was definitely the wink from Jolly Kayne earlier on as he was waiting for Gannon to show up, inducing an internal sigh from the worrywart himself. Indeed, the chef had the tendency to spoil people a lot of times, even if the timing would seem to be a bit too off for some people’s liking.
Kayne had mentioned earlier that the food would be prepared fresh, just right as soon the two would start talking. The musician was glad that the standards for food service were met, at least; it would suck if food would be served too cold while the talk would begin after a while. Lerato looked at the outside view through one of the windows of the tavern; the rain was definitely pouring like mad, though not as much as yesterday, the intensity toning down since it was close to afternoon. Plus, there would be another huge event brewing up at school and it would be best if he and Gannon would reconcile as soon as possible. In fact, Lerato had to do the opening speech this time to cut Brageet’s master some slack with crowds and whatnot. Definitely, a huge day would be ahead of them and it would best if it would commence on a high note with his presence around, all before the other parts of the event would begin.
All of that would have to wait till another time; Lerato should focus on the talk with Gannon first. In fact, there would be a lot to discuss about aside from the jealousy that spurred inside on the day Tala was escorted to the infirmary. How stupid of him to let that overtake him during that time.

-Enter Gannon into the Jolly Tavern & Inn-
Stepping into the tavern, Gannon released a heavy sigh. After dropping Brageet off at home so she could sleep in peace, he’d headed straight over to meet Lerato. He didn’t know what Kayne was up to, but he didn’t know how to feel about this ‘date’. Gannon was not a social person – he tended to avoid human contact and crowded places, and the Tavern was very popular. Frowning a bit, he scratched the back of his neck nervously. ‘Why did it have to be a busy tavern?’
Stepping to the side, as to not block the establishments entrance/exit, he scanned the room until he spotted Lerato, seated near one of the windows. Swallowing hard, he braced himself for what was about to happen. Walking through the crowds, he made his way over to the Court Mage, stopping at the edge of the table. “Good Afternoon, Lerato.” He said clearly as he looked down at the seated male. He would have taken a seat, but it was rude to assume that you were welcome at someone’s table – thus, he wouldn’t sit without an invitation.
Now that he was closer, he could see that his colleague looked, nervous or anxious - he knew the feeling. He hadn't seen Lerato since he'd left the infirmary on the day Tala had been attacked in the woods. Since then Gannon had been left to wonder what had come over his colleague. Their job was to protect the students, and Lerato had failed to do that. He'd abandoned Tala without a word, and that was unacceptable in his book.

Lerato could hear the sizzling of meat as well as the pouring of the liquid into the cups, which helped to breach the silence but was not helping with the reliving of his anxiety. It wasn't long before the one he was waiting for finally showed up and his eyes were staring at him from head to toe. Normally, he would be happy to see Gannon, but because of that one fatal mistake that he did, his heart sank deeper. His head hung down looking at the polished wood on the table, hands linking on the surface. Definitely, he should just apologize and get on with it to spare the other the suspense of waiting. After all, time was of the essence as of this moment.
“I admit that it is stupid of me to act that way because of my jealousy taking over me at that moment with the student, and I'm sorry. That rascal princess did help me a bit to sort my feelings out regarding that matter, as well as Kayne, so here I am, having to confess what I have to say towards you. I cannot say that I will try my best to change my demeanor completely, since I can still be jealous, and I can be a bit too stuck up, but still... I'm up to any suggestion that we can think of to make this relationship a bit more better." He then sighed wistfully. “I'll be listening."
He would not ask for anything else but to hear what Gannon would react in response to those words. The other court mage would deserve to lash out at him for that infraction of his, and Lerato would deserve that. After all, relationships were still not perfect and there would be rough edges, but in the end, there would be a way to work things out, and the musician was willing to do that if necessary. It was just the same with music, except that being with someone was a bit more complex than what he thought it would be.

╔═══════════════════ Gannon couldn’t help but release a heavy sigh at Lerato’s words. There was no, ‘Good Afternoon’, or ‘I haven’t seen you in a while’, or ‘I missed you, how have you been’. No, he could tell that Lerato had been holding in those words for some time – so long in fact that as soon as he’d seen Gannon he’d nearly burst, needing to get them out. While he was sure that Lerato felt a bit better getting everything off of his chest, the more he said, the more Gannon knew that this wasn’t going to go how either of them expected it to.
Taking the seat across from Lerato, he reached up to pinch the bridge of his nose and close his eyes for a moment as he thought about how to answer what Lerato had just said. Gannon had never dated a colleague, but he was beginning to wonder if this was a bad idea. Opening his eyes, he let his hands rest in his lap as he turned his gaze to Lerato, who seemed to be avoiding looking at him.
“Lerato…what happened in the infirmary…it was inexcusable.” He knew that this wasn’t what Lerato wanted to hear, but it needed to be said. “First and foremost, you are a Court Mage assigned to oversee the Academy. Before you are anyone’s lover, friend, teacher or counselor, you are the Academy’s Court Mage. We both took oaths to guide and protect the students of the Academy. They are our first and foremost priority.” He stated evenly with a small sigh.
“Tala Maxwell was attacked by a feral tiger shifter in Eoana Forest. He was lucky he didn’t sustain any major injuries, let alone die. He was scared and in need of help…and you walked out of the infirmary without a word. You didn’t even check to see if he was alright…all you gave him was your ire and your irritation.” Gannon knew that he was being harsh, but like he’d already stated – they were Court Mages first, friends/lovers second. As his colleague and superior, he needed to tell him how things were and set him straight.
“Lerato…you already stated that you 'cannot say you will try your best to change', which tells me that if we stay together, in this relationship, your duties as a Court Mage will not be a priority for you and that is unacceptable. I know my place in all of this, I’ve knowing it from the beginning and I accept it gladly because I would give my life for those kids – no hesitation. But if you know that you cant say the same, that you cant put your emotions aside when it comes to me, then we cant be together until you can.” This was not how he’d expected this day to go. It was a harsh truth – Lerato had taken an oath, he’d made a promise and he’d pledged his life to the students of the Academy. When it had come time to test his devotion and resolve, he’d failed. Gannon was his weakness, and weaknesses couldn’t be tolerated, not when students were at risk.
“I’m sorry, Lerato…” He didn’t know what else to say. This was supposed to be a date for crying out loud! But Lerato had said it himself – he wouldn’t change.

Definitely, it was completely unacceptable and Lerato would deserve to go to Tartarus for that serious mistake, an elegy chronicling his downfall. Considering that he had let the selfish emotions get in the way of the duty that he was supposed to be fulfilling as a court mage, it was to be frowned upon, something that Gannon would hate so much. Taking in a few deep breaths, that was when the musician had to speak his mind, having to take the amend for that mistake. After all, compromises would be a necessity to keep the relationship intact, with both Gannon and his students, as long as it was something that they would both agree upon. "I should definitely be reminded on why I chose to be a court mage in the first place, and you make me realize that. And I should be looking at the bigger picture, with not just us being the main focus. The students also matter in the academy, and I let that jealousy get in the way of that fact... Indeed, I have some things to work upon for improvement, not just for you, but also to myself and the others."
It wouldn't be easy having to do the job without having to let his emotional frustrations getting in the way, but if that was what Gannon would have wanted to see, then Lerato had to commit to that, being a bit too understanding with the students aside from the co-workers around. Besides, the academy wouldn't be in good hands without them around, and he thought that he would get everything figured out, when in fact, he still hadn't.

╔═══════════════════ Gannon released a heavy sigh. It seemed that Lerato still didn’t realize what was happening. Gannon didn’t want Lerato to do this because of their relationship. Lerato needed to do this for himself. But it seemed that he was fixated on their status as a couple when he should be examining his status as a Court Mage and what it meant.
“Lerato…Yes, you need to look at the grander scheme of things. But you also cant fixate on our relationship.” What had happened to the charming, strong willed musician that had taken him to the festival? What had happened to the friendly Court Mage who was always smiling at students and eager to help in anyway? When had Lerato turned into a possessive and jealous man? He didn’t know, but he didn’t like it…
“Please Lerato, focus on your dreams and your ambitions. Remember why you wanted to come to the Academy. Remember why you chose to become a Court Mage…maybe that will help you see what I’m talking about…” He stated evenly, releasing a heavy sigh.
“When you figure it out, please…come talk to me…Maybe then, we can work things out between us…But until then, until I see that amazing man that I once knew, I think that it’s best if we keep our relationship professional.” It wasn’t going to be easy, but Gannon felt that it was best for them both. Something about them being together had changed Lerato for the worst, and Gannon wasn’t about to let it happen. Lerato was a good man…

Kayne was done with the finishing touches for the food that he was about to serve for the two love birds, anticipating that pleasant moment that was about to come. In fact, he was even grinning as he stared at the meal that would soon satisfy both their stomachs, internally giving himself a pat on the shoulder for a job well done. He gave the plates a final wipe to make sure that it would look presentable before stepping outside the kitchen, eager to please both the court mages who had worked so hard to contribute to the academy. Too bad he was definitely oblivious to the fact that the conversation turned sour, the fact that Gannon decided to have the cool off unless Lerato would get his act together, stepping right at the wrong moment. That was when the smile faded a bit, his cheery mood dampened at the sight of the two in a serious mood. But nonetheless, he let off a sheepish chuckle, unsure on what to do at this moment.
"Hey, good afternoon... Ummm, do you still want to eat here or just have the food delivered elsewhere?" he questioned, still grasping onto the plates. In fact, Kayne was even planning to serve the dessert as the final note, but that may end up being left behind unless there was another option.

It was definitely his worst nightmare to hear that, yet Lerato had no strength to scream at him, because it did make sense that he had changed, but all in the wrong ways. Maybe Lerato was not fit to be in a relationship with someone after all, at least not at this moment when he was immature. The passion that was connected to his motives was just... absent, and it would be best to just regain it as much as he could if that would make himself, and the others, better. When Kayne showed up with the food so that they would both start eating, he stared at the chef with eyes that were laden with such a crestfallen expression. Obviously, he just wanted to go home and leave it all behind, but Kayne had worked so hard for the food that it would be a shame to leave it all to waste, so with a forced smile, he spoke for the alternative.
"Just have both our portions packed for take-out, including the dessert. I appreciate that you are trying to help us, but now, I have to do my part. Thanks for the treat," he said. That way Kayne would get the fact that even with his efforts, some things would not be fixed right away and it would require a lot more work.

╔═══════════════════ Gannon looked up at Kayne as he approached the table with food in hand. He didn’t know if he could share an awkward meal with Lerato after their little conversation. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to spend time with Lerato, it was just…well, he knew that Lerato had a lot to think about, and he did too.
Looking back toward Lerato as he spoke, Gannon released a heavy sigh. Lerato’s forced smile said it all – he was hiding behind a mask and he didn’t want to Gannon to see what was behind it. He could respect that, he often did the same, but instead of hiding behind a mask, he chose to use silence.
As Kayne left to package up their food, Gannon looked out the window. It was raining again. The rain was nothing like it had been the last few days, but it was enough of a storm that Gannon couldn’t help but compare the weather to his and Lerato’s now gloomy moods. He hated this, he hated everything about it. But he’d said what he’d wanted and needed to say and there was nothing else he could add.
It was only after Kayne returned with his parcel that Gannon looked back to Lerato. “I’m sorry that I ruined this…it wasn’t my intention.” He said as he arose from his seat. Looking down at Lerato, he was tempted to reach out and touch the male, but as he lifted his hand to do so, he stopped. It wasn’t right, and he knew it. Lowering his hand, he swallowed hard. “If you need anything, you know where to find me…” Was all he said before he left the Jolly Tavern & Inn and stepped out into the rain. By the time he got home, the sun had begun to set, and the temperature had begun to drop. He didn’t know what the coming months would bring, but he knew that his once cheerful mood would become very dark if something didn’t change…

Kayne had no choice to leave the two alone as he packed the food, including the dessert, since he had tried his best to keep the mood of the place in a positive light but failed considering that he was so focused on the optimism that he failed to see the bigger picture. By the time he was about to check on the two again, carrying the food, Gannon had left and Lerato was all alone. The chef sighed as he placed the package onto the table, and since the court mage, the one with the owl as the pet was absent, the Enhancer was the one giving the the musician a small pat on the shoulder. It would never be enough to turn the frown back into a smile but at least the raven-haired would still try to comfort the court mage as much as he could.
"I guess I should give you both time to sort things out on your own, huh? Since he may have a point. But still, you both are welcomed to check by the tavern again at anytime. See you both next time," he was about to say more but another customer came along that needed his attention. With that, Kayne decided to let the other leave.

Truly, Lerato had screwed up big time and he felt a bit more empty with Gannon leaving him alone. And then, there was the pat on the shoulder and the words of comfort from his co-worker but he blinked in confusion. Indeed, the musician was grateful for the attempt but now, it was just not enough to cheer him up. As soon as the chef left to take care of the other customer, he picked up the food and stood up. "Bye, Mr. Nightroad..." he murmured before leaving the tavern as well, not even bothering to look back since he would have to start changing for the better, at least for himself for the time being before focusing on what he should definitely do for his job.
And as he was on the way home, he would be soaking wet, tears mixed with the rain pouring down on his face. It was as if the weather was sympathizing with him at this moment.

By the time the two had arrived at the tavern, Kayne's breath had become cool with the temperature and he had to rub his own hands to keep himself warm. The exterior of the two-story building had been capped with snow like the arctic mountain, though bits and pieces had been carried away because of the wind. "Wooo... definitely in the mood for some warm cider," he commented as he approached the door, giving the frame a few steady knocks as an indication that he was definitely back. The voice of his mother was the one calling out to him and she opened the door for him. In fact, she even welcomed the fishmonger to the place, but first, the cart had to unloaded. It was a good thing Kayne's father was there to carry the things cautiously. After all, Kuro needed a break from all that carrying.
And while the mother was busy with the drink to be served to the fishmonger, Kayne was checking in the fish and liquor to make sure that there was nothing missing on the way. His nod meant that everything was in good shape.

His thick black coat made short work of the cold, yet it could not avoid the icy particles from touching his face and making him realise the temperature around. Certainly, Kuromori was more than thankful for the clothing he wore, and the darkened fur it possessed that, quite frankly, was the most attractive feature of his attire. Despite all that in mind and more, the two safely reached the tavern, and as Kayne commented about the cider, an understanding nod was the calm response Kuro would give, besides noticing how the situation was offering him to be at ease, allowing the fishmonger to let go of the cart's handle and lower the bucket of fishes until it was at stomach level. The feeling of another business concluded felt well good, and would rapidly reach the tall male's head and a cloud would form from his breath as a sigh indicated that feeling. Upon arrival, as well, Kuromori would observe as the chief went to the door and knocked, having it opened by a lovely woman who even invited the crocodilian in. Such kindness was appreciated anytime, and only a fool would say no to the priviledge. So, now quite eager to get inside, the fishmonger focused on the cart and undid the rope ties he had made, just in time as well, since a capable man came along and began to take the products in. The male understood the situation and simply gave a nod as hello, then proceeded through the door into the tavern.
Now within the building, Kuromori first had in mind the objective of finding a proper seat, as his tail was not the most adaptable body part to the world's structure in terms of chairs and all. Thankfully, there was a stool that was tall enough for his size, and had no back support that could give discomfort to his crocodilian tail. Now, sitting relaxed at one of the tables, with his long rear limb almost wrapped around the seat he was taking, the fishmonger had a single hand on the table and the other inside the coat's pocket. His eyes were wandering about, in thought whether anyone would find his presence odd. In truth, he was not usually one to leave the peace of his shop, and when he did, not many were used to his appearance, with the horned mouth piece and singular eyes. Fortunately, no trouble was found, everything seemed well. And as the drink arrived, Kuro gladly held out his hand and took hold of the cup, "Thank you for the kindness" would be the words to come from his hidden mouth, with the visible expression on his face proving the sincerity of what was said. Soon, he planned to leave back to the shop, but was Kuro in a rush? That much could be denied by seeing how rested he seemed at that moment.♛

With the cup being served to Kuro and the fishmonger thanking for the kindness, there was a pair who decided to show up at the tavern since they were actually traveling to Eoana for a short while, though with the weather, they had to warm up first. Kayne was the one to welcome them, guiding the two travelers to sit down on an empty table, the bags placed near them. While the mother would be there to serve them the cider, the chef complimented on how well the cider was made. "So, how's the taste of the beverage? We use the honey as the sweetener. Cultivated from natural flowers while still allowing the bees to do their thing for pollination." In fact, the honey used for the cider was harvested through careful means, thanks to several local bee farms situated twenty-five kilometers away from the academy. And because the flowers have their own blend of sweetness, the profile would be diverging depending on the species.
And there was another wave of the breeze cascading outside. It would be best to stay put for another while, at least until the wind had calmed down considerably. The weather, especially during the winter, could be quite unpredictable.

Perhaps the cold was not actually that strong, but the cold was always a bother to the crocodilian when in excess, not in the usual levels he could calmly handle at the fish market. Tips and tricks from experience taught him how to live through it all, but when it came to the outside, not much expertise there for the chilled air. Disliked it, even during the traveling days, quite the funny fact about the fishmonger. Having all that in mind, feeling that upon his body, it was decided that it was time to part ways from the tavern and decide on a gentle break, and he knew just the place to recharge some of his spirits in the lack of an actual strong sunlight. It was time to forge a good time.
With an at ease expression, Kuromori finished the cider and chose to rose from his seat, moving his tail a bit to make sure all the muscles were well and ran a firm hand through the front of his coat, downwards on each side, to fit it back into a correct place on his body before he made way towards the chef, patiently waiting for his interaction between Kayne and the clients to end, as he knew those were good to have, before asking about the payment in adequate opportunity. "Thank you for everything, the tavern remains a beautiful and most respectful place, but I wish to receive the payment and be on my way if there is nothing else you require" ,his words could be taken as harsh, but the tone of his voice, the body language shown, revealed there was nothing intimidating about said words, just his natural way of speaking to those around. ♛

Pepper would be scurrying outside in the snow, all tucked up warm with the new clothes that her sister had bought for her in the colder weather. With a heavier sweater and coat protecting her body, a wool hat and pair of gloves to cover her hands, the aspiring chef would jump around in the snow ever so happily. Sure the wind caused her to fall face first into the white powder, but it wouldn't be anything to cry about. Pepper would pick herself back up and continue along her way. Along the way to her destination, she would wonder how the cooking professor would be doing. They had become pretty close during the winter months, and it would be quite the honor to be one of his students. With another gust of wind nearly pushing her over, the red haired child would spot his establishment, The Jolly Tavern. Running forward through snow and winds, Pepper opened the door before it was slammed shut because of the wind. After a few seconds of struggling against the arctic air, she managed to open it enough to slip inside and close it behind her.
"Hullo, Kayne!" Pepper said, performing a salute she had watched the town guards do when crossing paths. "Jolly Pepper, reporting for duty!" The child would bound over to the two while sitting up in one of the stool, her clothing and hair still contain bits and pieces of the snow from outside. One person did catch her emerald eyes, which was Kayne's companion who seemed to be quite intimidating. Lacking the normality that other people possessed, she would simply wave to him while heading over to where Kayne and him were located with the same childish and naive smile on her face. "Keeping warm? It's really cold out there."

With the reminder for the payment, Kayne stuck his own tongue out in embarrassment."My bad. Just wait a minute." And as he went towards the counter to fetch for a medium pouch of gold coins as payment, the perky apprentice showed up, greeting everyone present in the tavern. The cooking professor held the pouch in one hand as he acknowledged her presence. "That, and the order for the tavern has been completed." Playfully, he tossed the pouch towards Kuro, hoping that the other would catch it. "Here ya go. That will be enough for everything, including the cost for handling and delivery."
And after the mother served the cider for the two travelers, she then asked Pepin if she would also like the beverage. Even the red-head deserved some relief from the weather outside.
