Fred could feel his shield wearing down, getting more and more used to the sensation of it, even with the mortal damage being soaked he was getting a good bruising. Last time he'd gone back to his room and had been an array of purples and everything else, but he'd felt great in spite of it all.
He laughed right in Ros's face, rubbing his side with a hand. "I'd be right ******** offended if you did mate. Wouldn't be like you at all."

That's what it was for, right? Increasing their familiarity with their weapon. He'd felt what Melvin's could do, given enough rapport.
