“That's for sure, life seems to be amused throwing various s**t balls when you least expect it.” He gave her another wink and grin as she looked up at him, if he had cared enough to write he would have volumes on the subject. “Maybe you could use some of your vacation days to catch a lecture or two… Or or maybe get one of those fancier telescopes and watch the stars. If anything, when it's not raining there's plenty of stars in the sky. Not like in a city where lights take over.”

Sid rolled his shoulders a little looking away from her so she couldn't see his entire face with the jacket. “I've lived a lot of places, a lot of cities but I guess I would consider France my home in some way.”

"There are days when I would happily give the double middle finger to whatever variant of a god, should such exist, who is in charge of stuff like that, for that very reason." She said, a mild tone despite the words. "Those are... not bad ideas, especially the first. The telescope... would be a long ways down the road, I think. I have plans for my money first." She gave a little shrug.

She was curious as to why he felt the need to hide his face, but didn't ask. Everyone here had their secrets, and the things they didn't want to discuss. His answer, though, earned him a wistful sigh. "France... there's a place I would love to visit. One of many.... Never got to leave my home town til just before I was recruited. I envy people who've seen more of the world."

Sometimes she wondered if she just seemed like a naive little girl, with how much she'd missed out on.

Sid laughed as the jacket attempted to slip back a little now that the rain started to slowly soak into the fabric making it heavier. “You and me both, and I am sure you can figure something out, with the telescope that is. I bet you could access to one of the roofs tho and star watch for a night, might be a better view if nothing else pans out.”

Sadness crept along the edges of Sid’s face when he thought about being back in his home country. There wasn’t a particular place he wanted to be, just it had never occurred to him that he would be unable to live there again. “France is pretty wonderful and when you get a chance you should see it. I plan on using one of my vacation days, when I can that is, to go back… If you want to come along you’re welcome to or you could see anywhere else in the world. Apparently this place connects to alot… or so I’ve gathered.” Chewing the inside of his cheek he rolled his shoulders a little again. “What was your hometown like?”

She eyed his jacket, and reached up to tug it back into place with her free hand, then let her hand drop back to the side. "I've definitely been trying to scout out good places to stargaze of a night. Some one mentioned the cliffs are a great view." She gave the raining sky an annoyed look. "But until this bullshit passes, there isn't a star to be seen."

She saw the sadness in his face, and just gently squeezed the arm hers was linked with, unable to do much about it. She didn't understand missing home, but she knew it was a thing many people did. She tilted her head, listening to him, though. "I hope to do so. It's pretty high up on my list of places to go, along with Japan and England... Wales, specifically. And yes, that's what I've heard. A friend I recently made mentioned he'd been in Mexico for... a year and a half or so." His question got her eyes dimming a little, and she glanced at the ground. "Insular. ******** Nowhere town in the Central Valley of California. Less then 50 thousand people when I left, I think. A lot of... anything-not-in-their-world-view- phobic people, who were not inclined to see what was right under their noses if it might upset the comfort of their little lives."

“Thanks.” He watched her shift the jacket back in place, at this point water was trailing down his back from his neck due to the jacket being soaked. There wasn’t a time that Sid could recall owning an umbrella but if he had ever regretted not having one it was now. “There’s cliffs?” It was probably a dumb question but beyond the buildings and the questionable town that a few of the hunters resided he hadn’t really gone exploring to see the rest of the scenery.

“I’ve been to England once, can’t say it was my favorite place but it was pretty fun from what I can recall.” A hint of a sheepish look came across his face, there were a few places he could only remember a few blurry parts here there. “I can at least say I’ve never been to Japan and don’t think I’ve ever had a desire to go to Mexico.” He gave a small squeeze back in return as a thank you and a sympathetic look when she started to mention her hometown. “Sounds like it’s tons of charm and fun.” The words of course sarcastic in tone as he squeezed again. “At least you’re gone now right. No looking back and you get to travel the world, mostly for free.”

"Mhm..." She eyed how wet he was getting. "You sure you don't want to borrow mine? Like just hanging the hood over your head, letting the rest hang over your back without putting your arms through the sleeves... So the shoulders don't get stretched? Cause I mean... I'm not using it right now." She was fine, and he looked like he was getting uncomfortably wet. "Wish they had umbrellas for requisitioning, but I'm not surprised they're all out of them." She blinked at him, and said "So I've been told. I haven't actually been to them, given the rain... No point in risking my neck slipping."

She tilted her head, curiously. "I just want to go, see where some of my ancestors are from. Korea's on the list eventually too, for the same reason." She gave a slight shrug, and sighed a little. "Dunno about Mexico either, but if I get sent there for duty, I'll do what I need to do." She smiled a little at the sympathy and sighed. "Ever so. I have no intention of ever going back, even if it weren't for the 'I'm supposed to be dead' thing. I would rather not see anyone from that place ever again, other then perhaps one."

“Nah, I’ll be fine.” Sid shook his head slightly, the jacket spraying the excess wetness off in directions. “Thank you for the offer though but at this point I don’t think it would matter how many jackets I put on to keep out this downpour I’ll just have to take a hot shower when I get back and maybe find someone hot to drink.. Or maybe just have a beer and pretend to be warm either way.” Even if he had an umbrella Sid figured he would probably need to at least bury himself into blankets to get the wet chill away. The amazing part was the fact that the island hadn’t entirely drowned itself in so much water, or at least the first level of crummy rooms like his own.

“Korea would be fun too, check out the fashion, eat all the food I could.” He was pretty sure he could probably spend two days trying at least everything and be able to burn it off in the gym in a week at the rate he was moving. “France is as good as I get to ancestors though, I don’t really know s**t about my mom’s side of the family and I couldn’t even tell you my father’s name so I never saw a reason to give a ******** about looking any of them up.” A shrug followed as a flicker of annoyance shot across his face at the thought again, at least there was zero chance in encountering any of them on the island. “Just one person you would want to see? Friend or family?”

"If you're sure." She said with a warm chuckle, and ducking at the extra water flying around. "Just don't get a cold or whatever. Assuming we even can get colds, which I don't know about anymore." She blinked a little at his comment about 'someone hot to drink', and decided this was probably a Freudian slip, and moved past it. "A nice hot cuppa is probably a better choice then the beer, and I'm pretty sure there's options for that that are free, too." She sighed, and glanced at the sky with mild irritation at the never ending downpour of ******** doom.

"Yeah... The food is definitely on my to do list. Wanna learn how the stuff tastes compares to the few things I know how to make, and the ones I'm learning. The fashion might be interesting... But the history too." She gave a slight shrug, not commenting on how much she'd eat. "I knew enough of my parents' history to know the basic ancestry, anyways." It was distant, like speaking about people she wished she didn't know. His next question, though, had her looking at the ground, quiet for a moment. "Family... My little brother. Only good one of the lot."

“Pretty sure...and it would be ******** amazing if we never got colds again. I know you can get hurt like stabbed and things but wonder if the whole no illness includes hangovers too.” Which would mean he could drink anything the night before and feel perfectly fine the next day, maybe, this was something he needed to test out later. “You are probably right, a hot cup of tea or something if I can find anything in the cafeteria that is edible enough. I sort of forgot how crummy school like food was.” At times he also forgot the right English words to say, it was easy to confuse similar ones together without realizing that he had said was either wrong or just extremely strange.

“So you can cook?” A talent Sid had not once bothered to learn, or had an ambition to learn, it was either get something that was made by someone else, or it would have to come in a container of goodness. Raising a brow he squeezed her arm again, more family questions she seemed to want to avoid. “So you have siblings… do you think he will miss you?”

She smiled a little. "If I could never again get ill, it would be an amazing thing. And yes... That is an interesting question. Not one I've tested, to be honest." She tilted her head, and shrugged at the idea. "Mmmm I've noticed how bad it is depends on who is on kitchen duties." She made a slight face, because she didn't really want them to notice she had a clue in the kitchen. Cooking wasn't something she did for fun, or just for everyone, if she had a choice in the matter.

"Ah? Yes, I... had to do most of my own cooking from when I was around... 8 or 9. Had to learn." Her tone said 'please don't ask too much about this. Please.' though she didn't actually say it out loud. She sighed a little at the squeeze, wondering why he wanted to know about her family at all. "I... hope not, for his sake. He's five years younger then me, and the last time I was all... I saw him, he was 11." Ahhhh she almost said more then she wanted to there!

“I haven’t tested it… yet… still trying to figure out the whole money and food thing. I know there’s a bar in town but I’m guessing you need to fork out money in order to have anything there.” There was also the problem of not knowing enough hunters to be able to find parties, or attend anything that included a free drink so until then Sid figured he would have to wait. “Kitchen duties… yea totally not looking forward to doing any of those. I tried to boil water once….. Forgot the stove was on and went to a concert with some friends…” Sid made a face, something of a slightly tragic memory of almost being murdered for an attempt of burning an apartment down. “Needless to say I was not welcomed back there so it’s probably a good thing a few people know how to cook around here. Massive props there on learning it on your own.”

Glancing at her he gave a slight nod with something that looked more like a genuine smile of empathy, which was the most he could muster without looking somber. “I always wanted a sibling, like a real sibling that I grew up with not just a lot of kids crammed into a room and told that we were going to live together.” He wanted to say something about hoping the kid was doing well, or something, but the words just sat there unsaid. Instead he just squeezed her arm again as the dorm started to draw closer.

She nodded, listening. "Yeah... I look forwards to the day when I can access my money. Not that I'm going to use it right away, I'm saving up." She wasn't going to waste her money, her goal was far too important for that. "I haven't been to the bar, myself, either. I have no idea if it's any good, or what's on offer. Not sure I'd do much there, I'm not exactly an experience drinker, since I wasn't of drinking age back home." She listened to his story, her eyes wide at those words. "Oh. Oh yeah no, that sounds like a very bad time. I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience with that." She sighed and shrugged "Had to make sure I was fed somehow, so I had to learn." She clearly didn't consider it an achievement, but she added "Thanks, though."

The empathy in his smile earned him a small smile of gratitude back, and then his words morphed the smile into one of gentle understanding. "Yeah I can... imagine. I wish I could have been closer to him, or that he'd had another sibling to be close to, for his sake." That was as close as she would be willing to come to admitting she wasn't allowed to be close to him, or anything more serious. She gave a soft sigh, and noticed the doors were getting close. "But I have also heard that friends are the family you choose, and perhaps... someday I will have friends close enough to consider family."

“I forget about that sometimes, that the drinking age is different in America… I wonder what it is here….” He prayed to whatever force of being that it was not twenty-one. “Knowing myself I’ll probably end up blowing my money the first month, mostly on clothes so I don’t have to keep washing the few pairs of things that I have with me. Maybe another hat… and definitely getting an umbrella the first one I see it’s mine and I don’t care what it looks like.” Even if it was decorated with some sort of frills and pink with flowers all over, it was an umbrella and considering the weather lately he might actually treasure it. “It’s ok, I mean it was time to move anyways so it worked out in the end. And you’re welcome, and really it’s an important life skill to have. By that I mean you won’t end up giving the other trainee’s food poisoning like I probably will…. Hopefully won’t.”

Sid gave a slow nod of understanding about her brother, doing his best not to splash more water all over the place, not that he could tell at this point if it was really water from the coat or the rain that was dripping down in front of his eyes. “Maybe he’ll be ok, and yea I’ve heard of that too but I haven’t in my lifetime made friends close enough yet. I guess since we are all stuck here there’s a better chance at that.” There was less of a chance of him escaping when things didn’t go the way he wanted. “But I am sure you will find some, you seem...nice enough.” Grinning he winked to let her know that he was just teasing a little, she seemed perfectly normal and really probably would make a lot of friends. Reaching the door he moved to hold it open for her so she could finally get out of the rain.

Seren shrugged a little. "I'm not entirely sure there is one? Certainly people have just given me alcohol on the one occasion I needed some, so I think the rules are more flexible here. Might be 'if you're old enough to ask' but I can't even begin to guess." She blinked at him, listening, and then shrugged. "I have enough clothing. I'm saving for a tattoo, and I expect it to be expensive. And an umbrella... Ugh I tried to request one from requisitions but no ******** luck." She gave the sky a dirty look, and added, in a dour tone, "I bet they're all being claimed by the higher ups. Or some one's hoarding them and selling them at a premium." She sighed and rolled her eyes at the idea.

"I guess. I mean, yeah, I can avoid food poisoning as long as the ingredients are in good shape, yes, so I suppose that IS a bonus. Even if I prefer not to cook for people I'm not close too."

"He'd better be ok. He'd better not show up here, either." That was said in a dark, and slightly afraid, voice. It clearly was something she worried about.

"I've never had anyone outside of him myself, and I've not been awake for very long, so... But I hope to get that lucky. I would like to have a family worth having, in some nature." She blinked at him when he teased her about it, and shook her head. "We're all nuts here, if you hadn't notices, Sid. All of us." She shrugged. "Or at least so I've seen." She slipped in the doors, and gave him a grateful smile. "I think we part here, as the door to the showers is that way, and it's time to get warm. I hope to see you again some time soon, though. I enjoyed our chatting." She gave him another smile, warm and friendly, then trotted to the bathroom doors, ready to get clean and warm.

“I said nice not sane, anyone who had to end up here has some sort of demons of their own. I am no exception” There was a sound of a chuckle on his voice as he grinned at her, pulling the wet jacket off the top of his head. “It was a pleasure meeting you Seren, I hope to see you around again soon.” With that he headed towards the stairs, water sloshing in his shoes as he attempted to wring the jacket out.
