Rhys listened as he lay his damp clothes out so they could dry, then flopped onto his bed and got comfy and warm. He kinda felt bad that she was still standing so nodded at the chair, a silent invitation for her to sit down. The chair would dry so it wasn't that big a deal to.
"No s**t?" he said finally, trying to imagine Joy getting water shoved down her throat. Despite it obviously being a bad thing, in his head it looked more cartoon-ish so he kinda laughed. Huffed, more like, but he was smiling. "Since you're stronger now you should find that thing and kick its a** for payback. How the ******** do we go up against things that can drown us without us actually being near any ********' water?"

Joy plopped down on the chair without a moment's hesitation, hey he offered, she wasn't going to refuse hospitality. "If I hadn't gotten pneumonia, I'd have said we could try drinking the water. Like, make 'em run outta ammo! But what if they could control the water even if it was inside us?" she shuddered, "Ugh, never mind forget I said that."
She tried to give the scenario more serious thought, "Honestly, that was the first Halloweener I met that tried to kill me. Most of 'em, most of 'em were kids. Teenagers you'd find still in high school. Some of 'em can be really sweet and nighteve."

Her description of the situation made him think of that one episode of Avatar: the Airbender--the bloodbending episode. He scrunched up his face at the idea of that happening in real life and could only nod. "Good choice, dude. Very good choice."
The brunette sat up in his bed, still messing with his wet and floppy hair while he listened to her. "Yeah, I think I remember working with one or two of 'em when we got sent out to help out some civilians that were getting overrun by Creation. I'm not totally new to all this anymore but the fact that they talk still freaks the ********' hell outta me." He couldn't quite so eloquently put into words what was going in his head so he just added, "But yeah, they were helpin' out, too, so they can't be all bad."
For a moment he turned that thought around in his head. "So you're friends with some of 'em, then?"Huni Pi Sorry, I lost the notice. :<

Joy scratched the back of her neck in thought, "Wouldn't say friend friend. I know some would be nice to me, maybe even protect me, buuuuuuut parang they're the sort to act like that for all non-hostile hunters? Gets?"
The mention of Creation had Joy's thoughts going back to that weird time, "I don't think I was there to help civilians out but were you around when everyone got turned teenagers? That was my first time with Creation. Or, I think it's Creation. That's the giant ******** tree here, right?"

He made an "o" with his mouth as she explained a bit more about the Halloween creatures, nodding a bit at the end. It made a little more sense now, though he imagined it was more of the kind of thing you learn while you're actually out there.
"The giant ********' tree, yeah," he said with a chuckle. "Biggest understatement I've ever heard, s**t. That thing took over an entire city back then. But damn, it turned everyone into teenagers? What was that like? I wasn't here for that--was in Mexico, got assigned to an outpost out there."

Joy wished she could have looked horrified upon hearing how Creation took over an entire city. It would mean she couldn't believe the tree was capable or had such intentions, but Sammy and Jason had been pretty clear about the tendency of Legacies to ******** your s**t up.
"It was awful. Bad enough your body getting all changed, but you didn't remember anything beyond your life up to that age. Like, I woke up as my fourteen year old self but could have sworn I went to sleep in my own bed in my civilian life home. There were some hunters who didn't get kiddified, dunno why, but some were completely kupal to teen us."
And thus began Joy's slowly building resentment for Deus and its people.

His expression got more and more disturbed as she explained the whole situation to her, and by the end of it he looked pretty shocked and horrified.
"Good I wasn't here, then," he said, recalling his own memories at that age and shuddering. "I worked pretty ********' hard to get outta that part of my life. Being forced to go ******** no."

It wasn't often that Joy allowed herself to not be anything but her name, at least not when there wasn't an immediate physical threat (and sometimes in certain life-threatening circumstances she was even more her name), but she had to agree, "I mos def could have done without becoming a teenager again. Made me miss my family way too much."
The smile was still there, just edged with uncharacteristic bitterness.

Rhys didn't know Joy that well to be able to catch any kind of bitterness hidden in that smile of hers. He nodded though, still in complete agreement.
"Yeah, must've been a waking nightmare until it was over." A scowl quickly set in again as he thought of the Creation tree and its...habits. "The ******** is up with that tree, anyway?"

"Waking nightmare," Joy repeated thoughtfully, "Good way to describe it. The tree's not the only thing that messes with people and Halloween though. I feel like I went through one before but the memories just aren't there." she rubbed at her temple as if to ward off a headache.
"You'd think as hunters we'd be better prepared for that sort of thing, no?"

He tried to wrap his head around the little tidbit about the tree she just shared, but found he couldn't and didn't wanna risk getting a headache or anywhere near irritated so he tucked it away for future reference, in case someone else came and tried to explain to him how it worked.
"I don't think we're prepared for half the s**t that gets thrown at us," he said with a snort. "I mean, the usual isn't really surprising anymore but somethin' like this Atlantis ********. How the hell do we prepare for ******** class="quote">Huni Pi

"Oh the rain's easy. You grow up on a tropical island that's part of an archipelago in South East Asia!" Joy declared before bursting into laughter at her own terrible terrible joke. And she needed to joke because the conversation was getting serious and Joy didn't do very well in those situations.
She'd only ever had those types of conversations with friends from her old life and that was because she practically grew up with them. "I think some of the Life people are trying to work on it. I wouldn't be surprised if Melvin has something in the works. He did head the diving mission and found Atlantis."

Rhys gave her a strange look for the not so great joke, though the effort to lighten the mood wasn't a bad thing so he didn't comment. Just snorted before heaving a sigh. "I can deal with it, just a little annoying when I'm on my morning run. All the mud is ********' up my shoes."
Though he had to admit it was a bit of a relief to know that someone was gonna try and take care of it. "Atlantis..." he repeated, then glanced over at Joy. "Is that something everyone would know, that Melvin led the team, or were you with them and that's why you know?"

"Ay korek! The mud is murder on my shoes too! It's why I don't wear my really nice ones unless we're doing off-island leave. I have a couple of pairs that I haven't worn yet though. Not that much of a traveler."
She tried to think back to when she and the group got back from Atlantis, "Huh, you know, I dunno if it's common knowledge about Melvin heading the Atlantis trip. I just remember he sent a mass-text that was asking for people who were willing and able to join. Maybe it's something Life Division's more aware of? I usually just keep an eye out for Mission invites so I can help out."

It was funny to think that Joy fit, even if it was only to a degree, the stereotype about women and their shoes. Their many, many shoes. Not commenting seemed like the smart idea there, though, so he just paid more attention to the details about what went down with the Atlantis mission.
"I've been ignoring those mostly. Just got back and all, kinda wanna stick around a bit. Maybe 'til I get sick of this ********' rain. Guess if you think there's one that's maybe a little interesting lemme know? Wouldn't mind goin' on one with someone I know for once. Can't remember all those names, s**t."
