"Certainly, sir," answered Ayane quickly but not so as to come off as curt--not quite--while adjusting the device she was fitted with. Little number that seemed more watch than anything else, though it was about the size of a dinner plate and had a myriad of modules on; a profile was brought up: some icon with a little skull and x-bones with stylized bat wings attached to the crown, all in red of course, was the only thing discernable to the eye in the window between her tapping a few nodes and the profile module disappearing.

"--We have many strong demons around here whose job it is to spar with our clients," explained the assistant with a certain cool flare in her voice and [removed](it was the only time she seemed to look at him with any sort of significant attention since she arrived to tend to the meister. What was there to say? This was a business, and there is no business without interest.). "I think you'll find we have quite capable warriors, and their experience is second to none."--

With another swipe, the profile of the next available demon was brought up. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of detail on that display, and the face on that thumbnail didn't do anything to help expectations. He was a goofy, burnt-out looking guy with a dumb half-smirk on below sleepy eyes. The brow showing under his parted, shoulder-length hair was that of a brawling man: flat, just sturdy enough to weather punches without having to withstand the internal pressures of critical thought. He was hanging some kind of string fro his thick neck, and the V-neck shirt displayed a musculature that seemed to be of a man who 'peaked early.'

--"This is our next available sparring mentor," said the assistant with a cool little wave under his profile image. "Should I point you to him?" And before she could forget to let him forget, "And how should this be paid? We can set up a plan later--different department, of course..." The churning of those in and out seemed to tip in favor of the former: high tide was coming...

Yata studied the profile of the man for a moment before nodding to Ayane. "Yes, I'd like that, thank you. And I'm fine with setting up a plan later," his reply was cautious, he was worrying about what they would ask of him in return for this service.

"Excellent," chimed the assistant as she turned her device to sleep mode, turning to lead the young man into the spa/relaxation area.

"Here we have the waiting pool," gestured Ayane as she introduced the circular pool, about 50m in diameter and stocked with about two dozen demons, some reading, some having a drink or smoke to take the edge off the day. "Many like to frequent here--the liquid you see is a complex solution; it's meant to stabilize the soul wavelength of those in contact with it, promoting physical as well as mental recovery.

One of the demons was significantly less dressed up than the others. His face matched the profile image well enough, with the addition of an inch or so in hair. His head was hanging back, eyes surely closed but obscured by the fringe of a towelette. His jaw looked strong. Long but not necessarily bulky arms. Well-trimmed goatie. "--You should find your new sparring partner here. Please don't hesitate to ask for help," gestured the woman to a sphere floating through the area. A quick scan would reveal that, yes, there were plenty of them buzzing around, purposefully painted to match the walls. Ayane bowed quickly and excused herself with an "enjoy."

Yata followed Ayane to where the waiting pool sat, standing just outside of the strange liquid, unsure of what to expect if he were to step inside. He glanced at the various beings within the pool, looking to see if the instructor from the profile was present. It took him a moment to find him, but it was unmistakable. Immediately, Yata's adrenaline began pumping. The idea of a fight was exciting to him. It bred growth in the Wavelength Meister's mind. If he could learn even one thing from this man, then it would all be worth it. Yata flipped his red hair out of his eyes and smiled brightly. Taking a quick glance at the sphere that Ayane had pointed out, and pausing to question why he hadn't noticed the multitude if similar objects that were floating around the building, he muttered a quick and distracted goodbye as Ayane hurried off.

Yata walked around the outskirts of the pool and wound up a few feet from the man he believed to be his instructor. His hands found their way to his pockets as he cleared is throat. "Excuse me," the meister began. "Are you an instructor?" The question was full of other meanings. Firstly, it was to make sure that he had the right guy. Second, it acted as an introduction. Yata had never actually gotten the guys name, so he wasn't sure who to ask for. Of course, it also served the obvious purpose of making sure the guy was in fact an instructor.
Convincing himself that it would be better to wait and see if the two would move to a different location, Yata let his wavelength stay at rest instead of raising it.

The towlet peeled itself off with the help of gravity, giving the appearance that his hand had some kind of strange magnetism, and revealed a pair of dusty, wild eyes which seemed to meander over to the young man's face. Apathy softened into a kind of knowing bemusement as the demon's powerful forearms began to work him out of the suspension with a similar langor that bordered on sluggishness. He sat on the edge of the pool, not quite laughing at the lad but not taking him quite as seriously as others might.

"Instructor," said the demon with a kind of half-chuckle to his voice, "is that what they're calling it now?" A slow ripple rolled its way through a good portion of the pool as the man casually kicked his foot. He seemed not to indulge the younger fighter in pleasantries or any sort of formalities. He simply stood, stacking his vertebrae one after the other until he stood over Yata by a margin of several inches.

"Tetsuya," he said with a simplistic assurance with a thumb pointed to his chest. "I'll spar with you, if you want." A digital hum chimed in, signalling the arrival of a helpful orbiter, one that could satisfy all commands the three-eyed crow and the iron one could have. One hand into his pocket, Tetsuya threw the young man a rope: "Got a favorite location--terrain, I mean?"

Yata's eyes quickly darted over the demon's form. He noted the size different between the two and scratched his head. "Man you're tall," he said with a quick laugh. "Technically they said sparring mentor, but I figured it was the same thing." His red hair shifted as he tilted his head slightly, looking the demon over once more. He had an air about him that could easily be confused as laziness. However, Yata knew all too well the difference between lazy and relaxed.

"Yata, it's nice to meet you," Yata's reply came with a similar gesture with his thumb. As the rope was tossed to the meister,
he reached out and snatched it from the air. He eyed it with obvious confusion. "Anywhere that's open," a moment o thought before amusement crept into his voice. "And solid,
                                        obviously. What's the rope for?"

"You'll see," answered the big guy with a smirk. Hand in pocket, he called out: "Interface! Recognise protocol 'Tetsuya.'" This of course we followed by the skittering warble of the small sphere into view.

"Protocol clear: how may I help you, Mr. Tetsuya?"

"I need a battlefield generated on the fourth floor--rocky plateau, randomise." A short moment of beeping later...

"Everything is ready, sir. Enjoy!" The curiously human voice was carried off with the orbiter. It seemed to confer with others of its kind, then it was gone.

"Quick, huh?" The tall demon nodded toward something not unlike the elevator seen before in the other building. "That's what I like about this place," mused the mentor as he started to lead Yata over.

The teleportation process was rather streamline. Rather than aggressively jerking one's molecules around, the platform that brought them to the floor of the sparring area was so gentle it felt like a wave of butterflies rushing over one's body.

"Not so bad, right?" asked the demon, checking in without looking back to Yata as he stepped off the circular platform. The hall was replete with rooms, each having a small door and spaced so close as to make the space within seem nonsensically large. It was like having a living room inside a locker. There was applause coming from some of the rooms: a presentation of some kind. One room was echoing with shouts.

"A Kumite," answered Tetsuya before the question could be asked. "One versus a hundred style." Shortly thereafter their room appeared, slightly ajar and with a dry breeze coming from it. "Here we go," confirmed the demon as he slipped in, leaving the door open long enough for Yata to step inside, then locking it behind them. The place was, for all intents and purposes, the middle of some rocky plateau.

"Elements of seven different mountains, dry season, full sun, for your enjoyment," confirmed a disembodied computer voice.

"Well, you heard the lady," said the mentor, rolling up his sleeve. He pointed to his chin, wearing that fun look he showed earlier. "Whenever you're ready." Tap, tap.

Yata was quiet during most of the journey from the main floor to their training room. Still being new to the DCSE there were a lot of things that struck him as strangely awe inspiring. The robotic servants, the pleasant teleportation, the disembodied voices. It was all such a surreal experience for him, something that he would think of when he dreamed about the future.
Never would he have imagined that it was all a part of the current century.
Then again, the grim reaper built a school, so there was definitely some room to discuss what constituted reality.

Whenever the two were inside of the deceptively large room, Yata began stripping off layers of clothing until he was in nothing but basketball shorts and his shoes. He always wore his training uniform underneath his clothes,
just for those days when he needed a spontaneous training session. AS the robotic voice gave the specifics of their room, Yata began "flexing" his wavelength, raising it then letting it fall again, timing it with his breathing for meditative reasons. Let's call it shaking off dust.

"Alright then," Yata began, holding his arm in front of him, palm up and gathering wavelength in his hand. In moments, the wavelength solidified into a cubed gelatinous mass, approximately the size of a baseball. "Let's test the waters," his voice was almost a whisper as he breathed in and lobbed the jello-cube into the air,
arcing it so that, if it landed undisturbed, it would land on Tetsuya's foot, aiming to stick that foot to the ground for a moment.

For what it was worth, the boy did display a sizable wavelength for his age and species. Certainly something he'd seen, if only once every decade or so. He began to recount some of those cases, almost feeling with a certain fondness in the stinging it brought to his jaw.

His hand almost went to that gib, but instead settled on a pocket as he watched the young fighter boost up and down and up...

Ah. There was a sort of rhythm to it. Maybe there was something to it? Could be just a ritual--athletic-like, mm? Whatever was coming, Tetsuya didn't seem to pay it much mind, going so far as to keep his eyes fixed on Yata rather than letting them follow the cube into the air.

When it landed on his foot, and invariably stuck that foot to the ground, Tetsuya didn't blink more than once. There was, however, that bemused smirk on his weathered mug.

Tetsuya's being visibly unphased by his currently stuck foot forced Yata to put up an air of caution. The meister knew that his opponent must be exceptionally skilled in combat, since he was set to be Yata's sparring mentor,
but his overly relaxed composure struck a bit of a nerve. Rather than taking advantage of the demon's momentarily limited mobility to rush in for a barrage of punches, he chose instead to utilize this window to try and incite a more violent reaction from his opponent. Yata bent at the knees and smiled at the demon, putting his palms flat against the ground as he spoke.

"I'm just warming up, Tetsuya," one could feel Yata's wavelength spike and seep into the ground below them. It pooled primarily in the area around the three-legged crow, but the presence was still easily readable from where the demon was standing. "Let's see how you deal with this." As he finished his sentence, the ground around him began to shift, slowly at first. Eventually it rose in a violent explosion of pillars that sprouted at the meister's feet and rushed directly at Tetsuya, mid flight forming sharp points intending to prod the demon into a reaction.

Behind the wall of manipulated rubble, one of Yata's hands slid up one of the extending pillars and effortlessly peeled away a strip of rock. The rock in his hand gave way to his wavelength as well, bending and moving until it settled in the form of a six foot cylindrical pole, thin enough to not hinder the wielder, but thick enough to be solid.

All this at first drew a tilt of the head from the seasoned demon. It was, of course, accompanied by a short chortle. What was the point of saying such things, wondered Tetsuya, when they were very plainly just beginning.

    ... Funny guy.

The first of the pillars met the softened palm of the demon, stopping without pushing him off his relaxed and squared stance. The impressiveness of the moment hadn't the time to sink in, however, as the rest of them--three, four, five, seven!--collided and splintered under the weigh of the impact until there was a cloud of dust and sparse raining rocks where once stood a casual-looking bloke.

His cigarette had been thrown in the clatter: when the dust settled enough to reveal his form, the big man was pawing the ground around his feet, unable to move, looking for that wayward f**.

"Damn it... Man..." He whined, seeming to have lost it completely; giving up, he lifted his torso back up to standing, absently rubbing his shoulder a bit as he made another scan... and...

"Ah... Well, that'll just have to be there, huh?" He finished dusting himself off, settling his eyes on the younger fighter again. "Yata, my guy..." He seemed to grow slightly more serious, showing a tension in the corner of his eye that told of a focus; but then, a laughing smirk: "--Not bad."

Short on words, as usual, Tetsuya, in one swift but casual motion, reproduced to a lesser degree Yata's attack of flinging rocks at his opponent by brushing the ground with the heel of his foot. The rocks were smaller and not as compact as having been made into pillars, but it did speak to his strength; it ought to be noted that Yata would not be able to sense a discernible change in the demon's soul wavelength.

Yata watched as Tetsuya used nothing more than the palm of his hand to halt the onslaught of pillars. Struck with awe from his opponents visibly effortless strength, the red haired meister couldn't help but wonder how the demon had gotten so strong, and further, if Yata could ever reach that level. The idea brought an excited smile to his face, and a much wilder look to his eyes. He was planning on enjoying this match, more so than any battle he has ever been in.

As the demon was looking for his cigarette, Yata began slowing twirling his stone staff in one hand, and he added in his second hand as Tetsuya retaliated with a barrage of stones with the kick of his heel, speeding up the staff considerably. As the stones got closer, Yata spun on his heel, a full three-hundred and sixty degrees, the staff in his hand being halted in its flourish and instead being swung in the direction of the stones. Although the space between the object and the stones was great, a rather peculiar transparent wave flew forth, only visible by the warping space at its edges.
As the wave made contact with the flying stones, they broke into pebbles and dust, while the stones that were left out by the wave flew past his form, save for one rock that nicked his cheek, leaving a small cut.

"Tsk... I thought I got that one," Yata muttered under his breath as he wiped away the small amount of blood that was bubbling from the wound. Choosing to keep his distance rather than to push in for a more direct confrontation, Yata threw a punch in the air, directed at Tetsuya. Although the motion itself wasn't threatening, it did release a wave similar to the one from before, this time heading straight for the demon. (I lost the image from before :/ Also, I hope this is acceptable. He's still basically shackled. lol)

Something about the rippling of the air seemed to puzzle Tetsuya, leaving him eyeing the wavelength meister with raised eyebrows after the fleet of rocks had passed or met their end. The way Yata fought wasn't unlike some of the opponents in Tetsuya's career, but he no less earned props in the demon's mind again as he demonstrated his grasp on strategy in combat.

He seemed too comfortable. If Tetsuya was going to give the lad his money's worth, he would have to close the gap between them and let Yata see what all that strength could do up close and personal. To that end, the deceptively strong demon started to yank his foot up and at random angles, trying to dislodge it from the ground and that gooey trap with a look of mild annoyance replacing the amicable smirk from before.

It was here when, not paying attention, the demon was struck with an invisible punch right to the cheek. His head snapped to ninety degrees away (left) of the wavelength meister and stayed for a small pause. "Ah..." The knowing smirk returned, slowly unfurling like new spring. "--one of those, huh? Well, looks like I need to step it up."

Tetsuya, now standing straight, knew he was at the mercy of Yata's trap unless he did something. So, with a decisive stamp of his free foot, which cracked and displaced huge chucks of rock, the demon planted himself and gave a hard tug at his trapped foot, lifting it, the goop, and a boulder on the bottom of this sole clean out of the ground. If anything, it served to showcase the strength of Yata's technique as well as his new teacher.

"There!" It was awkward and slow, but the scruffy tutor was able to at least move. He started, slowly, toward Yata on the brink of laughter despite his condition. Or was it because of it? In any event, he knew he wouldn't be able to catch him like this. Settling on this fact, a punch was delivered to the ground that would send jagged spires up in a path headed for Yata's feet, similar to what had happened just a moment ago when freeing his foot.

As Tetsuya lifted the boulder from the ground, Yata's head cocked to the side in a mix of confusion and awe. The feat itself was impressive enough, but he couldn't help but wonder what took the demon so long to do such a thing. Was he just unconcerned with the plasma shackle on his foot,
or did he have to build his strength? Deciding it was the former, Yata's bewildered look returned to the excited expression he had shown before.
He took a couple steps towards the demon before he noticed the spires heading for his feet, then began backpedaling to avoid them. He wasn't quick enough.

One of the spires rose beneath Yata's foot, causing him to fall. Quickly maneuvering his hands so that the staff was touching the ground, he performed a semi-pole vault to fall away from the continuing path. "Looks like I was the first of us to hit the ground, that blows," his tone was whimsical despite having to pick himself back up, but his eyes were full of fire.

Yata straightened himself up, letting the staff remain on the ground. A familiar feeling would make its way to Tetsuya as Yata started to gather his wavelength again, raising it considerably from what it had been before, but this time it was concentrated entirely in the Three-Legged Crow's body, amplified as he began resonating with himself. He glanced quickly at the dissipating gunk on Tetsuya's foot. Although his wavelength was clearly readied for an attack, the meister didn't make any attempt to attack,
Rather, he began stretching. First he turned from side to side, then bent over to touch his toes. Finally, cracked his knuckles and winked at the demon with a smirk. Then he was gone.

The movement was impossibly fast, fast enough that there wasn't even so much as a blur in his figure as the meister raced around and reappeared to the left of Tetsuya, fist poised and in position to attack. God Speed, that was the name Yata had given the technique. He had developed it in order to fight on par with beings capable of teleportation, but he found it was a useful tool in his kit to surprise most enemies. His fist flew towards the demon, charged full of his wavelength, aimed, strangely, at Tetsuya's shoulder.

As soon as the meister began to increase his wavelength, the demon's eyes betrayed his excitement. It was the same for most people who didn't have naturally superhuman strength: to get stronger, you needed to up the wattage, so to speak. Tetsuya wasn't expecting, however, that his opponent would vanish. Caught without the location of his opponent, the demon began shifting his eyes around rapidly, trying to cover as much area as possible by getting his head involved as well. For a moment he looked dumbfounded, even foolish.

Quicker fighters did often get the better of him, he would admit--or at least they succeeded in their mission. This led him to adapt. Most of the time the faster opponents didn't quite have the punch to inflict real damage to the big guy, but every once in a while there was one...

One that could real test him. In order to come out on top when faced with such fighters, Tetsuya honed and tailored his form to do just that.

No time to celebrate having his foot freed, the demon only just turned his eyes and began lifting his guard (conveniently enough, the shoulder) when Yata had made contact. Speed multiplying his energy, the force of the attack slid Tetsuya's whole body along the rocky ground. He corrected, stamping his newly freed foot into the ground. A small chuckle escaped him as he came to a screeching halt. Next order of business was to retaliate. With a strong kick Tetsuya pushed off the ground and was upon the meister in a flash. Rocks and dust flew behind him as if a stick of dynamite was under his foot. A hard left hook--a feint!--Tetsuya grabbed at the rope hanging out of Yata's pocket, aiming to distract him, and followed by throwing a stiff elbow at his forehead. He wondered just how well the younger fighter could take a punch.
