waterworldHe ended on the butterfly, and when he was finished Zeke spent a bit of time lying back, lazily treading water as he caught his breath. Taking advantage of the extra buoyancy provided by the salinity of the water. He wasn't aware of anyone watching him, lost in his own little world for a long few moments. Least until he started back for shore, and noticed a certain Life hunter staring in his direction. And not the Life hunter he'd have expected to find.

Melvin read slowly and knew that writing too much would hurt Jordan's arms after a while. He had to be very selective with his questions. "You can keep your answers shorter if that helps." He asked, looking up before he knelt to think and also to read.
"I was never too close to Saliva. We've gotten better at it, but even still, it's jarring not to feel her anywhere. It's like she burrowed into my brain and left a hole there that I can feel a breeze."
"What other problems are you having?"

Melvin quickly averted his gaze when Zeke caught his and looked up and around at the sky as he took another sip from his coconut.

waterworldThere s an easy smile on his lips as he hit the beach, and with there being no towels he'd have to resort to shaking his hair out before doing down on the rock beside Melvin. Then he was leaning over to lift the coconut or of his hands, voice low as he murmured near his ear. "Your not nearly as subtle as you think you are.". He watched him over the edge of the coconut shell as he took a drink.

"I'm tired. I haven't been sleeping well. Aside from that I guess I'm okay. I like being busy to forget things but now I spend a lot of time thinking and I am not comfortable with that. Saliva is good sometimes for that. To bounce thoughts off of." He shrugged.

He bristled at having Zeke that close and still drilling wet, but went wide eyed as he took the coconut from him.
"I don't know what you're - Don't drink that!" His hands shot out to grab the coconut back.

He jerked the hand with the coconut out of Melvin's reach, teasing expression going contemplative at the drop of a hat. "Why not?". He'd seen the gloves, the other man's penchant for cleanliness, and it wasn't had to make assumptions. Even if they weren't exactly right.
Keeping the water out of reach, he turned his head so he was looking at Melvin full on, and there was something there in pale eyes, something not entirely nice, nor malicious either. "I get the feeling there are a lot of things I could do to you, that would involve a lot more than drinking from the danger container, but that's the one that bothers you?"

WaterworldIt was too close to toying with a deeply seeded concern that he only now was working to overcome. The water wouldn't kill Zeke, he tried to tell himself. His saliva wasn't toxic. Yet the quickness of it had jerked any sense of mental preparation and self-convinving he usually went through that he felt rushed and paniked in turn
It was the comment that had him going stiff, and it felt mocking at a tender issue to addres his overreaction to what Zeke called a danger. It felt dangerous to Melvin and he felt embaraased to have it pointed out that it wasn't. The tips of his ears went pink as he rose up.
"You didn't ask." He said, trying to play his outburst as a issue of permission. "You shouldn't just take things without asking."
He reached up for the coconut again.

QuietHaven't been alone with my thoughts long for years. Jordan sighed. He let the tip of the stick rest on the sand and ran his fingers over the quiescent ring again. It was hard to think well when half your thought process involved bouncing thoughts back and forth with someone who was now gone. How long? He flinched away from the thought. It was a dangerous course to start.

waterworld Very slowly Zeke brought the coconut back within reachable distance, but Melvin would have to lean into him to get to it. It was a test, of sorts. All of it was. Various jabs and pricks to see the Life would or wouldn't do.

waterworld Seeing it come back down, he leaned in to take it from him. It seemed to him that Zeke was giving up on prodding him, and while Melvin didn't want to coconut any longer, he had make such a point about it that giving it up would have made his overreaction seem even sillier.
"Thank you." He said, as he went to grab the coconut back.

waterworldZeke didn't bring it any closer, but he didn't move it away again either as Melvin went to reach for it. It meant he'd brush a strong shoulder, at the least, as he made a grab for it.

WaterworldHe didn't lower it, but he reached up slowly to take the coconut, the brief sensation of bare skin on bare skin jolting him before he took the fruit and stepped back.
"Next time just ask." He managed.

waterworldThis time he let it go, and as Melvin took it he'd roll broad shoulders in a shrug. That reaction certainly didn't match the explanation offered for it, but Melvin wasn't the most generous with personal information. "Can I have a drink?" It was purposefully challenging, and pale eyes rolled to the side to watch the other man. "All that swimming made me thirsty."
