Prala || Post 2

Prala rolled over with a groan, spitting out a mouthful of ice and blinking to get the snowflakes off of her eyelashes. "Well, I'm glad someone's enjoying all of this." She huffed a begrudging laugh, finding herself charmed by the woman beside her, who had somehow managed to take the edge off of her own embarrassment. She no longer wished to be suddenly struck by lightning, simply being invisible for an hour or so would be sufficient.

She sniffled miserably through her stuffed nose as she watched the woman struggle with the sock... not really putting together the reason for tussling with her footwear until the spear shaft was already laying across their lap was she.... not been wearing shoes????. Her eyes widened but it didn't seem prudent to ask.

Prala braced herself as the man pulled them up, letting go the moment she had her balance again, brushing herself off, she reached over her shoulder to check on her weapons. Finding them to be sound, she turned to thank the man and stopped cold, tilting her head slightly as the memory resurfaced. Prala's jaw dropped, she knew that face, although the man she had met all those years ago back in Tale was not quite so... Rugged. She appraised him approvingly, a smile playing slowly across her lips as she recalled the day. "The woodcarver," she realized, a laugh bubbling forth at the absurdity of the whole situation. It had been a time of pain and transition in her life, she had been a half wild young thing, she couldn't believe he remembered their brief conversation. Although... She seemed to recall accosting him mid carving with only her sling and a few smooth rocks as a weapon... Prala supposed that sort of thing tended to leave an impression.

She twisted her hair to wring out the already melting snow, grimacing, "Much has happened since Tale. I went to Juahar shortly after we met and stayed for many years after the war. I left only a year ago, searching for something different and a teacher... I came to Zena because the only captain willing to let me work for my passage instead of paying up front, the disgusting Spitorog, was coming this way and when I nearly died from hypothermia on his boat, like a little fool, he ditched me with the closest villagers and fled. Now I'm stuck here. Zena does have its charms.... I just can't think of any right now with meltwater running down my neck and waistline.... What brings you two to Zena?" Her brow furrowed. "I hope all this travel was to receive good news, but I somehow doubt it."

She turned to face the other woman again and held out a hand, appraising her. Prala was surprised to see Alikidike markings, she had never known the tribe of warrior women to seek love outside of their own kind, but this lovely creature was a patchwork of a few species. Shifter, like herself, Alkidike, and... Prala glanced around them... Wind?

She would always be a bit of a loner, always prefer the silence of the land to a crowd of people, but her time serving in a taproom in the capitol had taught her quite a few niceties. She knew how to properly introduce herself, at any rate. "Thank you for your help, I'm Prala. I er... attacked your companion a few years back when I caught him carving up a branch back in my homeland." She conveniently left out the fact that... Gaddok...? Yes, that was what the woman had called him, had been merely carving up old deadwood from the forest floor. Teenagers were fiery righteous creatures even at the best of times, and she had been a mess that day.

She nodded. She felt it, too - a tension that suffused the air. She'd felt echoes of it on her journey: unease, wariness, fear, worry... This was a tense time.

"People are disappearing." she informed her brother briskly, "No one knows the cause." She gave him another appraising look, as if confirming something.

"I am glad... that you are not among them." she said, moving closer to him so that she would not lose him in the crowd. She would indeed always have his back, but she needed to have line of sight.

"It seems that people are still gathering," she commented, looking over the motley and mingling crowd. "We likely have not missed much."

Let him be a bright and shining light.
--------------------

Nuawahn had honestly just been passing through Sauti when he'd seen the gathering of people. Of course, his first thought had been Oh! Its a festival! Yay! and then he'd delighted in his good luck.

It had taken him a few hours to realize it wasn't a festival, mainly because everyone had worried expressions on their faces and were talking in murmurs. Which was frustrating, because Nua wanted to laugh and play and such things had little to do with laughter or play.

So, Nuawahn was determined to be cheerful enough for everyone and have fun anyway. Humming happily, he skipped through the crowd, looking for something to munch on or someone that he knew from his fragmented memories or... anything, really. Anything would do.

Callum - 1

Callum didn't frequently travel as much as he had in his youth. His scheduled performances meant that he often didn't have the luxury of time, but in a way it was a pleasant change. There were others who counted on him to be in the same area, day in and day out, much like his own family. It was a far cry different from what he had grown accustomed to, and honestly...he was the happiest he had ever been.

That is, until he heard the rumors of disappearances and neither of his children, nor his husband, could be found...

Callum tried to stay positive as he made his way to the gathering. Surely they would be there, or if not, they were likely safe, just traveling at the moment. Just because Callum hadn't been able to go to Sauti to visit Sol didn't mean that the rest of his family couldn't, and it wouldn't be strange for them to stay longer than necessary to visit with him.

....He was going to lose his mind before all of his was over.

The worrying simply wouldn't go away, so Callum tried to busy himself. He reached for the sword hanging on his hip, gingerly touching the blade as it send calming electrical pulses into his body. It wasn't enough to shock; just something to keep his mind off the horrible tragedy that could have befallen his fam-

He stiffened, eyes widening when he felt an arm sling itself around his shoulders. Could it be-? Ah, no. Just the weight and angle that the arm came from told him that it wasn't anyone from his blood line. Alkidike blood ensured height, and as one in the tallest spectrum of earthlings, Callum knew without looking that this wasn't one of his brood.

Still, it was pleasant to see a familiar face. "I could ask the same of you. If you don't believe it's an issue, then why not avoid this place all together?" As light hearted as he posed his question, Callum was curious. Why come if he wasn't concerned?

Sol - Post 1

Feels warmer than when I left.

The young spiritualist flexed his antennae, giving them a good stretch before pulling his hood tighter across his features. As far as Sol was concerned the less attention he brought to himself the better, especially in large crowds. He'd already been informed that the last time such a summons had happened a war started with self righteous women trying to wipe out earthlings and hybrids, which meant if he wanted to keep his head, he'd best play it safe and stay low.

Though, 'staying low' was difficult. It wasn't as if he were short by any means; though not quite as tall as a full blooded alkidike warrior, Sol far surpassed even the tallest of earthlings. Dressed as he was, with his hood pulled tight, cloaking him in black with his gnarled walking stick, he may have made a bigger target for himself than intended.

At his side strode Sev. Though fully grown, and beyond chuffy, the raptrix bounced from paw to paw like an eternal pup. She trailed along behind her master, pushing her massive weight through the crowd until she spotted something small...and bright!

Sev pulled away from Sol, dragging him along with her as she tugged on the lead rope.

"Where are you going?"
He hissed.

She made her way closer to the other boy, tail swaying heartily when she saw the little zanteer.

Aki blinked, and cocked his head curiously at the sudden stiffness that overtook the older man at his side. He stepped sidelong as Callum's gaze landed on him, retracted his arm, and dipped forward to stand in front of him. "You waitin' for som'un else?" He prompted, folding his arms behind his head and shifting his weight over to one leg. He glanced around, as if he could pick out who else would be here seeking out the hybrid's company. As far as he could tell, no one seemed to take more interest in them than anyone else...

"If you were, I guess this would be the place to meet. Lots gathering 'round here." Plenty of weirdos, and he hadn't pegged this guy to be any part of a crowd like this. Maybe part of other, more flamboyant crowds, but not buying into any of this weirdly superstitious disappearing, worrying over strangers nonsense.

Not that he knew much about him, at all. He was a hybrid, and probably had a bit of 'weird' in him, himself. Akiyal shrugged nonchalantly.

"As for me, I guess I just like being around all these people. Don't know 'em, or care about 'em, but they could do some interestin' things, with the right prompting, and seems like the right prompting could be coming from that group up there," Aki explained with a nod up to Freya and Vescillea. He didn't 'know or care' anything about them, either, but since they stood there with purpose, and held so much of the group's focus, Aki decided they must be leaders of some sort.

"Oh, hey, before I forget, what did you say your name was? I feel like 'That Old Hybrid Guy' might be kind of offensive, maybe?"

Koril- Post 2

One gloved hand was patting Flana's head when Koril felt the creature stiffen. He glanced down, brow knitting slightly. "F-f-f-flana?"

Flana heard the excited pup nearby and was looking around for the source. Having never seen a raptrix before, she was quite intrigued. It helped that the stranger thing was bouncing around in such a playful manner. With a small yip, the zanteer jumped up to grin at the coming familiar, tail flapping excitedly.

"Flana?" Koril spotted the cause of the excitement, and his own face lit up. Was that a raptrix?! How neat! Spotting the hooded form following the grand creature, he did pause just a little. The person following was.. a little intimidating in that get-up. ..and so mysterious! Unable to muster up his usual enthusiasm in his half-frozen state, he gave the approaching pair a shaky wave.

Chapter 9: Grave Expectations

|| IC ||

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The giant bird seemed to flutter and puff up as the crowd grew, and Freya eyed the excitement of the younglings who peered up at the bird. Shaking her head and turning back to her friend, the Ice leader let out a huff, "So many here today, even some that don't quite belong..."

"Hey now," Vescillea said with a bit of a laugh, "They are here for answers...my nomads did quite the job spreading the news..."

Both let the silence linger for a moment. The news. Vescillea shook her head, showing a frustrated scowl, "I wish we had some answers. What are we going to say when they start asking questions?"

"We tell them the truth," Freya responded simply, before turning to the crowd, "Come now...it's time."

With a quick flick of her wrist, the Chiavi began to spread its wings and rise up. Snow and a cool bit of wind spread in the immediate area before the creature let out a cry and took to the sky. Freya stepped forward.

"Enough. It's time we spoke of the recent disappearances that have occurred."

Arron Post 3
This was the equivalent of his younger sister showering him with kisses and love. Volka had her own way about things. "I too am glad you are not among the taken, though I'm sure we would be quite the handful, maybe they will take us both and we will defeat them from within."

That was if whatever was doing the disapearences was not eating the captives. What a disturbing thought.

"Volka, we need a plan."

Sol - 2

Sol retained enough of his sight so that he could make out the vague shape of a bright figure. A shivering one, but bright, never the less. Blue, but with hair so red he knew it must be someone with Oban blood. His lip instantly curled.

The raptrix hopped from paw to paw in a good natured manner, but her sheer size meant that someone was bound to be hit with her wings - namely, her master. He bristled at the sudden onslaught, moving a gloved hand out from the protection of his cloak to defend himself. "Sev, heel!" The creature stilled, and in a chastised fashion, sat back on her rump.

With her distracted, Sol carefully balanced his walking stick against her. He then proceeded to peel off the fingers of his glove, before sliding the whole thing off his hand. Gruffly, he offered it to the other. "Give me your hand." It was hard, trying to focus just enough magic into his palm to make it warm and not have it burst into flames.

With his hand still outstretched, Sol canted his head to the side, listening as Freya and Vescillea spoke. "It's about damn time.", he murmured. How long were they going to hide the fact that people were disappearing? As the son of a nomad Sol hadn't thought anything of the disappearances at first; after all, it just happened when one traveled and was unable to communicate with others. But this seemed more important than that, and to have it kept hushed up for so long chaffed him.

Callum - Post 2

"Not particularly." He smiled; a thinly veiled attempt to keep his worries at the back of his mind. It may have worked had his mouth not opened. "I haven't seen my children in a while, and, while I'm sure they're fine, hearing about these disappearances has me on edge." Both Ygraine and Sol had been taught to survive under the harshest of conditions from an early age, so it wasn't as if they were incapable of survival. He just worried over less than natural causes taking his children away from him.

But, again, best not to dwell on it.

"They certainly do know how to draw a crowd," Callum murmured, shifting his stance so that one hip was cocked to the side. The chiavi's abrupt flight seemed a little ominous; if not a little dramatic. Hopefully it was just that, a stage technique, and not a sign of bad times to come. From what he could see from this angle Freya didn't seem particularly pleased, which didn't bode well for them, and certainly -

"Old hybrid guy?" Callum's jaw gaped a little, his brows furrowing as if the glass box surrounding his sanity had been run over by a mammu. He wanted to scream something akin to 'I'm not old!' but that would have drawn too much attention to himself. Instead, he blinked several times, opened and closed his mouth before regaining his smile. "It...certainly doesn't sound pleasant, does it? How about Callum instead?"

AKIYAL
Post: 3

Aki blinked and cocked his head to the side. "You're worried about your kids," he prompted, as if surprised to hear such a thing from anyone's mouth. Akiyal hadn't seen his dad since... since he'd left Oba, and that was long before any disappearances started happening. The Wind boy had been traveling, of course, making it difficult to keep contact with him, though Xil had tried initially.

But it felt to Aki as though, since he hadn't seen or heard from his dad in months, that he ought to have tried a little harder. The man only had one kid, and Aki should have been the only point of his focus, as far as he was concerned.

So he did wonder what having a parent like Callum felt like. Akiyal puffed out his cheeks and frowned as much as it would allow. "Prolly nothing to worry about. If they wanted to come see you, 'm sure they would." He grunted, folded his arms across his chest, and glanced sidelong, which happened to be toward the leaders.

"Ah, they're just looking for a reason to cause a scene," he retorted, unimpressed. "Seems to me that if they actually had something important to say, would get on with it."

But it was easy enough to turn the conversation from that, and Aki was pleased when it did. Grinning again, he leaned, knocking his shoulder to Callum's and laughing. "Just said ya got kids out on their own. Wouldn't say you were young," Aki informed him. "But now that you mention it, Callum sounds pretty familiar. And shorter, besides. Guess I can stick to that."

Volkarosh almost smiled at the thought. Just enough to be, possibly, considered a smile. "Yes." she agreed, "We would be." Their Aunt had been, their Father had been, their Mother certainly was... Uncle Lashy was always a handful. The whole family were handfuls, them included.

If... the agents... of the disappearances... were killing or eating their captives, Volakrosh figured that there would be some sign. Live captives were honestly easier to deal with. Dead... produced refuse and traces, oddly enough.

"We do." She watched the Chiavi fly into the air, her attention snapping quickly to the Ice leader. She had no opinions of this woman, or of her compatriot. "First, we listen." she rattled off in a whisper. Whatever information these people had would be useful, but likely incomplete. "We should watch the others in this crowd. If they react... we may be able to learn more from them."

Koril- Post 3

With the big, fluffy creature sitting still, Flana trotted forward a couple steps and stretched out her neck to sniff at the beast, giving a little purr of interest as well.

Sev? Neat name! His head cocked curiously as the stranger's gloves came off, blinking at it with surprise. Stripping off one glove as well, he reached curiously to take the other's hand. The immediate warmth made his eyes widen with surprise, and he wasted no time in scooting closer to the source of comfort. Sighing softly as the warmth soothed him, he finally noted the features hidden under the cloak; well, those features that he could tell. Part alk, certainly. Maybe shifter? Hmm... Oh, don't be rude! "Thank you," he murmured happily. Now he could hear what was being said from the stage rather than just the clacking of his own chattering teeth.

Arronthain Post 4

His sister had pointed out something most intriguing indeed. Learn not from the speaker but from the listeners. Not that he had an easy time peeling his eyes off the ice woman. There was just something about icelings that really attracted him. Maybe it was the yellow eyes kind of like his mothers but colder, wizened but perhaps that was vecause of the icelings age and not her appeal.

Maybe he had a thing for older woman who knew? Arron sighed and settled in for the speech. He both loved and hated speeches. His old self the self he associated with his father loved them as long as they were well made and interesting. His new self his mothers half, wanted to go beat up whoever the antagonist was so that there would be time for talk later..over tea..or food.

He rolled his eyes at himself. His sister seemed to suffer from no such transition.
