Ruya''s Diary It is nice to be home after the months Sunil and I were forced to spend in that prison of a dorm room. Being forced to live in a tiny room with only one filthy window among old pizza boxes and empty soda cans was beginning to drive me insane. No matter how much work I did to neaten and organize, it was undone in a matter of hours. I never want to live like that again.
I fear that the pixapet herd has learned bad habits in our time spent with Kam''s brother. Living in such filth it was difficult to discipline them properly when they broke the sort of guidelines I expect them to follow here at home. It may be a difficult several months until I have them retrained.
Kam''s room is hardly the paradise of order that I left, but I am pleased to see that she hasn''t slid very far. It won''t take me long to rearrange the room to my satisfaction. Or at least my own area of the room. It is comforting to have a space to myself once again. Somewhere I can escape to when I need time to think, relax, or sit down with a good book.
The level of comfort I experienced when returning to the familiarity of my old space scared me a little bit. I wonder about myself that I am so uncomfortable in unfamiliar situations. Flexibility is supposed to be a virtue and I don''t think I have it.
I looked out the window onto the backyard earlier, but I didn''t see anything. I hesitate to admit how nerve-wracking looking out the window was, but I can''t deny the feeling which settled into the pit of my stomach as I leaned close to the glass and peered outside. I''m not sure what I would have done had I seen anything of interest. Anything. I am so vague even here, but the only person whose discovery I fear already knows of my ... interest.
I didn''t ever say goodbye, which truthfully was not my choice - but there is no way he could have known that. I wonder what he has done in my absence. I wonder what he thought of my absence, if indeed he thought of it at all.
I suppose I shall find out eventually.
Kam warned us there were new inhabitants in the house, but I haven''t noticed anyone. The second floor in fact seemed eerily quiet. I am glad to reside in the attic, where the only inhabitant I shall ever have to deal with is Kam herself.

Sunil''s Diary Months spent away in isolation have made me weak. Who knows what skills everyone else has been developing while my muscles and magic were atrophying! Kam had better realize what an incredible disadvantage she has put me at. Especially snatching me in the middle of my quest.
I don''t even know if I can still go on my quest. I''m certainly not strong enough to beat any sort of obstacles I might encounter on the way. And for all I know that b*****d Julius forgot to inform me of some sort of time limit. God, this means I have to go find him and ask him doesn''t it. ******** wonder what losers have managed to become immortal while I was gone. Probably all of them. Stupid bond, snatching me from the airport.
I need to start training again immediately, so I can kick some a**. I am not going to be the weakling of the feien community and get stomped on. I''m better than that.
You know who probably is immortal by now - Quantel. b***h. I''m gonna have to hunt her down and finally make her see how I feel.

[New Friends, Old Habits?]Maq/Ruya RP Once outside the shop, Ruya set herself back down on the ground. She didn't want to stay inside, but she didn't want to go home either. Perhaps a short walk would help clear her mind and organize her thoughts.
Folding up her wings against her back carefully, Ruya began to slowly make her way away from the shop and towards her house. As she walked she thought carefully about her first foray back into the feien universe. Analyzing her behavior carefully in her mind, she was oblivious to the world around her.
As he approached, Maq could tell that she was deep in thought, and not wanting to surprise her, he dropped down to the path as well, landing several inches behind her and walking along until he caught up. Given the longer nature of his stride, he soon caught up, though he'd not bothered to muffle his footsteps as he did so.
Slowly stepping so that he was along side her, Maq spoke on the lower range of his rumbling voice. "Nice day for a walk, eh?"
Despite his intentions, Maq still managed to make Ruya stumble a little as she surfaced from her own little world. Blinking rapidly, Ruya offered Maq a smile.
"It is. I find the occasional walk can help one organize their mind."
She walked a little bit farther with him in silence before speaking again.
"It is good to be back. Have you been well Maq?"
Wincing good naturedly as she stumbled, he returned her smile once she'd managed to regain her balance. "As good as I can be, I suppose." The smile broadened, full and toothy. "It's damned good to have you back... Though I don't remember you being this gorgeous when you were younger." He *did* vaguely remember stumbling into the shop under the influence of that mint stuff of Tera's, and winding up with a warm armful of Ruya. How that turned out was lost to the mists of time, unfortunately.
Ruya smiled broadly at Maq, blushing a little at the compliment.
"That's sweet of you to say." She looked at her feet for a moment. "But I'm still not entirely comfortable with the way I look."
She stopped and turned to face him.
"You look pretty good yourself." She reached out a hand to touch his shoulder lightly. "It is so nice to see a familiar face."
He took the touch as permission to do the same, first reaching his hand out to lightly tuck a few stray strands of hair behind her left ear, before he settled it down, cupped atop her shoulder warmly. Their height difference wasn't as drastic as it had been when he'd first grown, which pleased him inwardly, and the glow of his eyes indicated that.
"I was starting to worry that you'd forgotten me, since you left without saying 'Hi' or anything." The crinkles in the corners of his eyes and the drawl to his words belied their teasing tone.
Starting to feel in a much lighter mood, Ruya frowned at the mention of her rather abrupt exit. She turned, removing her hand from his shoulder.
"I felt a little overwhelmed." She lied smoothly. "So many feien at once after having no one but Sunil for company for months was more than I could handle."
It didn't really seem fair to lie to Maquinar, but Ruya wasn't one to share her feelings before she had totally sorted them out.
While not the smartest of Feien, there were some things that even Maq didn't miss. "Yeah, it's tough. Especially when they're all probably Feien you've never met before." Nodding his head as if she'd answered a question he hadn't yet asked, he added, "Nothing to do with that guy you were talking with, then?"
Ruya wrapped her arms around herself, as if she was starting to feel cold and looked over her shoulder away from Maq. Turning back after a second, she frowned a little in Maq's direction the space between her eyes wrinkling slightly.
"I would have preferred to see him alone the first time, rather than surrounded by other people. He is our neighbor. We used to spend a lot of time together."
Ruya looked back at her feet, fighting back a slight blush that had crept up.
"He was probably like me; so glad to see you back that he couldn't wait for a more appropriate moment." He gave her a half smile, suppressing the urge to reach out and smooth that wrinkle away. "You'll probably be able to catch him again later, since you're neighbors and all."
Lifting one of his cape-like wings, Maq asked, "Cold? You're welcome to borrow this for a bit."
Ruya looked up in surprise at Maq's offer, but shook her head mutely. She unwrapped her arms, letting them hang awkwardly at her side.
"Thank you Maq, but I'm not cold. I just ... do that sometimes." She gave a little nervous laugh to try and cover up how odd she felt in that moment. "I don't know if I will catch him later or not. He'll be upset I didn't say goodbye. And when I left, we were just friends."
Ruya sighed.
"Enough about me. You've been awfully quiet about you. Anything new going on in your household?" Ruya looked up Maq with a polite smile and tried to slip an arm through his closest one, so she could cling to his side.
Never one to turn down physical contact, Maq lifted his arm enough so that she could situate herself against his side, chuckling softly as he did so. "Anything new? Just everything. Ter's about doubled all of our Housemates in the last couple months." He shook his head as he thought of all the recently arrived large folks running about.
Almost as an afterthought, he added, "And there's a new Feien at our place too. She just emerged the other day." The expression on his face gave little away as to how he felt about the new arrival, which was probably more telling than anything else.
"A new feien?" Ruya asked, intrigued by the thought. "Is she new or someone's offspring?" As the offspring of two existing feien herself, Ruya found this to be an interesting topic. "Do you know her element?"
"Very, very new. And I don't think they've figured out her element yet." The arm Ruya had nestled under curved around her shoulders, while his opposite hand came up and ran through his hair, sending it all on end. "She's got horns, three eyes, and spikes coming out of her. Haven't had a chance to talk to her much, really." Which was entirely true; every time he'd tried, Quantel had been right there, and while neither one of the females had been cold to him, it just hadn't *felt* right.
"A pair of my friends made blooms, though. Aria and Ian?" Maq glanced down at Ruya, curious if she knew them at all. "One of Tera's friends got a bloom out of that."
Ruya looked up at Maq in surprise at the list of mutations his new housemate had and then looked back down, idly running a finger over her fangs.
"She sounds like she at least looks interesting."
At the mention of other feien making blooms, Ruya perked up - but shook her head when she didn't recognize the names.
"If I've met them, I don't really remember. You're much more social than I am, Maq."
"Only more social because I make house calls, probably." He grinned a bit, before his eyes darkened slightly. "A lot of Bonds have moved away and taken their Feien with them since you guys left; probably half of the community at least." A firm note entered his voice, signs of the dedication to which he now applied to his current objective. "I've been trying to meet as many of those left as I can, and visit with those I know, so that I can help encourage them not to let their Bonds move them away."
Then, like the sun emerging through stormy clouds, he laughed. "What you ran into today, that was a fluke. Shop's usually dead as hell lately."
"Huh." Was all Ruya had to say on the subject of Bonds moving away. As she had already stated, she wasn't the most social of feien. It was unlikely these changes would affect her. "Sounds like a noble goal."
She laughed at his description of the shop, starting really feel at ease with him.
"Sounds like it is usually more my speed. Perhaps today was a poor day to stop in. Although Sunil would have been upset to find the shop unpopulated. For someone who is usually quite grumpy, she got very excited about being back in the swing of things."
"Probably because she thinks it's a new batch of folk she can bully around." Maq spoke the statement affectionately, and not without a bit of humor. After all, despite all the times she had snapped at him, Sunil was still one of the physically strongest Feien Maq knew.
Glancing around briefly before he leaned in to whisper, as if he were about to reveal some great secret, he said, "Of course, I've been teaching some of them boxing and s**t, so she might find herself in for a surprise." He added a conspiratorial wink at the end; if anyone understood how Sunil was, it'd be someone who had to live with her.
Ruya smothered a giggle at Maq's whispered comment. Lowering her own voice and leaning in close, she said the first thing that came to mind.
"Sunil will probably accuse you of planning an uprising against her authority and challenge you to a duel."
The sad part was - she probably would do something of the sort.
Maq laughed at that, the sound rumbling through him so deeply that it could even be felt through his arms. "She's already offered to spar with me, which frightens me about as much as a newborn Pixamouse." As the laugh mellowed out into a chuckle, he shook his head. "No wonder she and Q get along so well. 'Against her authority', huh?"
Ruya smiled wryly at that.
"I'm not surprised she has already challenged you. She was complaining the other day that she was getting rusty."
She rested her head against Maq's shoulder as they walked, wondering just how much Maq knew about Sunil.
"What exactly is the nature of Sunil and Quantel's relationship? Sunil will mention Q at odd times and then just clam up at others."
"Honestly? I don't really know." He had started to shrug, but found himself reluctant to do anything that might make her lift her head from his shoulder. Gazing thoughtfully at the path before them, he attempted to hash that one out into words that would make sense. "Sun is one of the few people Q's talked to for an extended period of time, and Sun doesn't seem to be quite so mean to Q when they're in the same area." At least, not as mean as she is with me.
Shaking that thought away, he grinned crookedly. "Not that Q and me get along much anymore either.
"So, are we just walking, or am I walking you home?" He gestured grandly to the path before him. "I've always wondered where you stay."
Ruya digested that information for a bit, but didn't draw any strong conclusions. With Sunil, who knew what not being quite as mean meant.
"Hmm?" She murmured as he asked about the path, lifting her head up. "Oh, well both I suppose. We're just walking, but we've been heading in the correct direction to go back to my house. You are of course welcome to come see."
He nodded. "Gotta warn you though, once I know where you live, you're due for some drop-ins." With a mock-wicked grin, Maq waggled his eyebrows.
He'd realize later, when bringing up Ruya & Sunil's reappearance to Quantel, that the blue Feien might not think it was such a good idea for Maq to know how to find Sunil.
Ruya pulled her arm out of Maq's as they came into sight of her house and used it to point
"There it is," she said with a grin. "Sunil and I's humble abode."
With a quick glance to the house next door, Ruya led Maq around to the side of her house.
"The kitchen window is usually open in the back, so Sunil and I can come and go."
Maq didn't miss her glance to the side, but figured he'd be able to get a better look at this neighbor's place when he left, so didn't look over there himself. Sunil & Ruya's house was kinda on the smallish side, which probably meant that their Bond didn't adopt quite as many creatures as Tera did on a daily basis.
"Kitchen windows are good." He grinned and nodded. "I stay in the kitchen of my place m'self."
Ruya shook head head as she launched into the air and zipped into the kitchen window.
"The kitchen belongs to Kam. It's her retreat from the craziness of the house. I live up in the attic."
Maq zipped in after her easily. "Kitchen's warmer in my place, and Walt made me this nifty little hideaway behind the stove." He glanced about as they flew, taking in their surroundings.
Ruya didn't pause in the kitchen, but kept going - through the living room, around the corner through the foyer, and then up the two sets of stairs to the attic. She trusted Maq to follow her and not to get caught by either Chandra or Zayne down on the second floor.
Once in Kam's room up in the attic, Ruya set down on the floor by her window looking down onto the backyard.
"This is my spot," she said, guesturing to the tiny beanbag and feien sized wooden shelves off to the side. "There isn't much here now, but ..." she trailed off. "And the pixapets all live in there," she said, pointing behind her at a series of stacked shoeboxes with a bunch of pixa-sized holes in them.
Speed and luck were two things that Maq always had on his side, so the chances that he'd be caught by *anyone* on their way upstairs were rather slim. He had to admire the way Ruya moved, though, taking those corners and sliding easily through the air.
Once they'd reached their destination, he landed with little of his usual dramatic flare, comfortable with simply standing beside her. As he looked around, he nodded and smiled. "It's nice. I like the view."
When it came to the matter of the pixas, he had to chuckle. "Got that many, huh? I'm guessing you got the one I sent over for the holidays."
Ruya sighed and eyed the pixa-apartment complex with a mixture of annoyance and amusement.
"I know there is a new group, but I haven't had a chance to speak with any of them yet. They're being "initiated" by some of the older members of the herd. Thanks though, I do love the little buggers."
"Glad to hear it." He chuckled at the thought of a Pixapet initiation. "I wasn't sure if they'd make it out to you, but Ter promised she'd see to it that they got there."
Taking another long look around, Maq couldn't help but wonder where Sunil might stay in this house. Almost immediately he banished that thought from his mind and turned back to Ruya, that ever-present grin on his broad, open face. "Damn, but it's good to have you back," he drawled, folding his arms over his scarred chest.
"They did indeed get to us," Ruya smiled softly. It was nice to speak to comeone else who cared for the pixas as she did. "Sunil's will likely live up here with the rest of them, since Susu doesn't take kindly to pixas - but I'm sure she appreciated the gift."
"Susu?" It almost sounded like it was a pet name for Sunil, but he just couldn't see the Air Feien putting up with it.
"Oh, right." Ruya grimaced slightly at her assumption. "Susu is the name for a pet of Sunil's. He is about the size of a pixacat, but he's blue and has wings. He has a personality very similar to Sunil's. She keeps him in her closet on the second floor."
Maq chuckled at himself. "For a second there, I thought it was a nickname you'd come up with for Sunil." Never one to be afraid of laughing at himself, or of encouraging others to do so as well, he grinned at her sheepishly.
Ruya couldn't help but laugh, but tried to be polite by cutting herself off after a couple chuckles.
"Sunil would likely smother me in my sleep if I tried to give her a nickname. She doesn't have much of a sense of humor."
"I call her Sun sometimes. If I ever want to really piss her off, I'll probably try Sunny." Grinning crookedly and giving Ruya another one of those conspiratorial winks, he moved over to the bean bag and gave it a gentle nudge with his toe.
"She probably won't say anything," Ruya pointed out, looking at Maq's toe as he nudged her bed. "She'll just take a swing at you. Or make up a name for you."
To prevent him from doing so, Ruya slipped over, sat herself down on the beanbag and leaned back with a relaxed sigh.
"It is so good to be home, Maq. You have no idea."
Tempted to drop down on top of her, Maq settled for chuckling and nudging her foot with his own instead. "It's always good to come home. See old friends, and all that jazz." There was the faintest of wincing as he realized he'd just used a Miz-ism.
Damn, though, it sure did look comfortable down there next to her.
Noticing Maq's gaze, Ruya shifted over a little and patted the bean bag next to her. No point in mkaing her guest uncomfortable.
"I'm not sure there is enough room for a man of your size, but you're welcome to have a seat as well."
"Good thing we're friends then, huh?" He settled down beside her, not terribly concerned about whether they touched or not. Once he was in place, and comfortably situated alongside Ruya, he stretched his arms above his head and folded them beneath his skull.
Giving another little wiggle, once aimed to both settle himself deeper into the cushion, and to cause Ruya to slide closer, he crossed his legs at the ankles, as if oblivious to the fact that he overshot the edge of the cushion by a good inch at least. "Mm, cozy," he remarked, then grinned up at his companion.
Ruya laughed and put a hand on Maq's chest to steady herself as her laughing unbalanced her even more than his wiggling already had. Looking down at him, she sobered up a little as she remembered this one time...
"I think you're a little large for my bed, Maq. I'm not sure we both fit side by side."
His own hand came up, large and warm, to cover hers where it lay against his chest. It seemed like his thoughts were straying to that same memory, his orange eyes darkening ever so subtly.
"Maybe we should... change up the positions a bit, then?"
Ruya tried really hard not to blush, but as warm as she was feeling she had a feeling she hadn't succeeded.
"What exactly are you suggesting?" She asked, arching an eyebrow and trying not to worry about the window behind her.
"Depends on what sort of suggestions you're open to." His smile was serious, inviting, without the slightest hint of a leer. Shifting it from behind his head, he brought a hand up to trace a finger of the hint of a blush as it bloomed on her cheek. If she were willing, then hell yeah, he was more than up for the idea of getting a little more intimate; Maq didn't want to make the decision for her, though.
Ruya blushed even more as Maq intimated that he might want this to go somewhere.
"I don't know Maq." She turned and glanced at the window, both looking for signs of life and giving herself a moment to think. She and Silva were only friends. She sighed and turned back.
"I'm being stupid, but I don't think I'm open to very much."
She wavered, not moving away from him - but not moving any closer either.
His finger moved from where it rested against her cheek, shifting across her cheekbone until it was joined by the rest of his hand, cupped gently along the side of her face. Since his intentions had never been to get her up here for a snog, there wasn't the slightest trace of disappointment in his eyes or his voice. "Then we stick to what's been done," he smiled sincerely. "I remember getting to hold you once; you're not against getting another hug from me, are you?"
Ruya smiled, but shook her head and pushed up off the beanbag to stand.
"Not while laying down, but you're welcome to the usual sort of hug anytime."
And that, friends, was why Maq never made the first move. "Sure thing," he grinned up at her, before starting to lever himself up into a seated position. With a stretch that popped most of the joints in his back, and sent the muscles across his chest rippling, he grimaced playfully. "You're right, anyway. This thing's too small for a big oaf like me." There. Injected a little humor in the air.
"Hugs and talks anytime, right?" Maq lifted himself up from the beanbag, much like an uncurling tiger would.
Grimacing as his joints popped, Ruya couldn't help but appreciate how good natured Maq was about the situation. She had after all been the one to invite him to her room and onto the bean bag.
"Anytime," she said, nodding seriously.
"I swear, everytime I come up here I see a different boy." Sunil drawled, from her position by the door to the room. She was leaning with her back up against the doorframe, not even bothering to look over at Maq and Ruya. "If I didn't know better, I'd be jealous."
Uncrossing her arms and pushing up off the doorframe, Sunil turned to look at Ruya and Maq with one eyebrow raised.
Before he had a chance to respond to Ruya, or more importantly, collect that hug, Sunil's voice broke in and stopped him. Two ways to do this. Let's see what's behind Door # 2!
Once he'd drawn himself up to his full height, Maq laid a hand dramatically over the center of his chest, nearly covering his scar entirely. "I never knew you felt that way, Sunil." His lazy drawl continued, even as he spread his arms out and grinned. "I'd be more than happy to hug you too, you know. Plenty to go around."
Sunil smiled lazily and kicked a button laying on the carpet near her feet. Placing her hands on her hips, she looked from Maq to Ruya and back before replying.
"I have no desire to partake in Ruya's leftovers." she said dismissively. "Although that really leaves me with few choices should I decide to take a lover."
Ruya's eyes were slightly narrowed and her hands clenched at her side, but she forced herself to breathe normally - to ignore Sunil. She knew that Sunil was just trying to get her riled up. The best thing to do with Sunil was to simply ignore her.
"You must have come up here for a reason," Ruya said, trying to sound breezily cool, "What was it?"
He had to wonder briefly if Sunil and Quantel had been spending time together on the sly, since the Air Feien's jibe sounded so much like a tirade he'd been treated to not too long ago. Tempted to say something else, he decided to hold his tongue, since getting a chance to see women not afraid to speak their minds in action wasn't something he ran into every day. So he folded his arms back over his chest instead, just watching.
Sunil took Ruya's words and Maq's lack of them to be an open invitation to come further into the room. Not too close to the other feien though, since they were both taller than her. Sunil was sensitive about her height.
"I just wanted to see how you were settling in." she favored Maq with a sidelong glance. "Perhaps update you on some interesting information."
Ruya snorted, crossing her arms over her chest and leaning back slightly so she could look down her nose at Sunil.
"I'm not interested in whatever tidbits you've gathered and as you can see - I've settled in fine. Satisfied?"
Sunil scowled, not liking how this was going, and started back to the door.
Since he was tall enough not to have to lean back in order to look down at Sunil, he didn't bother doing so. A number of things ran through his head, possibilities to get Sunil to stay, but Maq knew that Ruya had probably already had more than her fill of the other Feien.
So all he said was, "It was nice seeing you too, Sun. Maybe I'll catch you again when you come over to see Quantel."
"Or maybe you won't," Sunil said peevishly over her shoulder, slipping out of the room.
Ruya sighed and reached out to put a hand lightly on Maq's shoulder.
"She's such a sweetheart. Sorry you had to see that."
"Hell, she hasn't changed all that much since I was growing up." Except for this whole hating me now thing. Reaching up a hand to pat the one on his shoulder, he smiled down at Ruya.
"I'd say I felt worse for you, having to live around that, but you seemed to turn out fine."
Ruya gave Maq a wry grin for his last comment.
"There is a reason we live on separate floors of the house." She paused for a second, staring after her housemate. "Maybe I'll drop by to see you when she goes to see Quantel. Would that be alright?"
"That'd be just fine." His smile broadened, as he was genuinely pleased by the idea.
"Be honest, I'd love to see you around more; we didn't get half a chance to hang out before you left." Which was entirely true. Come to think of it, other than the couple of times in the shop, he didn't know if he had ever really hung out with Ruya. Never too late to start new habits, he always believed.
"I'm not the most social of feien," Ruya said, wiggling her toes nervously. "I don't get out as often as someone like Sunil."
Giving her hand a squeeze, he winked. "Just makes visits from you that much more special, ya know?"
He laughed softly, then nodded his head towards the door. "I should probably go, before Ter wonders what's keeping me."
"Yeah," Ruya said, smiling mildly. "Better leave before Sunil thinks of something to say and comes back up here. Want me to show you out?"
"That'd be great." While he had complete confidence that he would be able to find his way out himself, spending a little more time with her wouldn't hurt any. With a grand gesture, he indicated the door. "After you, my lady."
"Better go quick, lest Sunil get any ideas about ambushing you."
Ruya giggled a little and then lifted herself up off the ground slowly. She didn't really like using her magic to fly, but walking down stairs wasn't an option. With a smile back at Maq, Ruya flew out of the room, spiralling down along the staircase to the living room and finally back out to the kitchen window they had come in.
"Come again anytime, Maq."
"You can count on it," he called back, as he flew off.

[Falling Back in the Routine][Compilation nabbed from Ice Queen.] Quote: After Maq left, Ruya thought about heading back up to her room. But with the paints gone (lost in her absence) and the pixapets mostly still adjusting to the move back, there really wasn't much to do up there. Besides, that would make it easy for Sunil to find her, something Ruya currently wanted to avoid.
So instead she glided out onto the porch, finding comfort in the fact that it hadn't changed at all while she was gone. The peeling white paint and aging wood felt exactly the same as she walked across the porch and sat with her feet dangling out into the air of the first step.
"Silva slipped across the yard, trying to think of a way to say this. He had a quest he was going on... and right when she had just got back. Probably his own fault... but there was a reason. Right.
He slipped into the yard, noticing her on the step and moving forward. He had seen the red feien leaving. It kind of figured, actually. "You work fast, darlin. I'm impressed."
Ruya favored Silva with a look that said quite clearly she didn't have any idea what he was talking about.
Ruya favored Silva with a look that said quite clearly she didn't have any idea what he was talking about. She looked down and kicking her feet a little, she wondered if this was in reference to Maq. Silva and Sunil had something in common then.
"Maquinar," she said to her feet, "is a friend. I suppose, like Sunil, you don't understand that concept?"
He motioned to the direction Maq had flown, his toothpick between his fingers. "Not home a day and you've already got a new admirer. I figure that's damn impressive." Yeah, he was jealous. Again. Just like the guys had thought he would be.
He sighed, shrugging it off. "You look good darlin. Even better from this angle."
Ruya shrigged off his first comment. She had a feeling Maq admired anything female, but there was no point in arguing with Silva about it. Her hands twisting nervously in her lap, she looked up at the compliment, smiling finally.
"Thank you. You look nice as well, all grown up."
She made a circular hand motion which seemed to be her way of pointing out how good he looked altogether.
"Yeah. It's good to be tall." He said, smirking. "Course it was a b***h learning how to surf again in the middle of winter. I'm going to have to make myself a bigger board." Then he looked at her. "You never said you were leavin' darlin..."
"Ah," Ruya said, the smile fading again. "I thought that might be a problem."
She looked down again, banging her heels against the back of the stair. Would it matter what she offered as an excuse? With a heavy sigh, she looked back up at him and neatly tucked her hair behind her ears.
"I didn't know we were leaving until we were gone. Sunil pulled some stunt and Kam just decided on a whim to send us both away." She wanted to offer an apology, but it wasn't her fault. Really she hadn't been happy about the move.
He grunted. "Same thing almost happened to me earlier..." Okay, usually he would jump on that excuse to give her a guilt trip, but-- He stepped forward, standing in front of the stairs so they were face to face. "Darlin... I have something to tell you..."
Ruya raised an eyebrow, suddenly suspicious. He was being very understanding about the whole leaving thing, which seemed like a bad sign. "You do?"
"Well... yeah." He muttered. "I went to talk to Yanvir. He's this crazy a** sonuvabitch. But he's got a lot of power. And I asked him for a quest." kam trouble: "You're leaving." she said, disbelieving. Wishing she had had any control at all over when she had returned, Ruya just blinked. "Best timing ever." she added finally, totally sarcastic. "What are you questing for?"
"A cape." He replied, shrugging. "At the bottom of a dark hole. Shouldn't be too hard since I can see in the dark." Then he looked at her. "I shouldn't be gone longer than... hell, a month or so." He hoped. Maybe. "Look, you were gone a long damn time, darlin. Maybe-- Hell, I don't know. I'll call you or something."
"You'll call me." Ruya repeated. She narrowed her eyes at him, realizing she was probably being totally unreasonable in being upset. "I don't use the phone and as far as I know you have no idea what my bond's phone number even is. If you're going to lie to me, do try to remember I'm not stupid."
She stood, brushing herself off. It didn't matter that nothing had stuck to her, it was more of a habit than anything else.
"I've been trying to get a quest for months, dammit. What do you expect me to do? Stop my life because you finally come back?" He stopped, taking a slight breath and forcing himself to calm. "Look, what do you want me to do before I leave? To make you sure I'll be back. And I'll need my chain, so don't even think about it."
Well, the mention of being back seemed to penetrate Ruya's anger and she deflated a little. Crossing her arms defensively over her chest, she looked him in the eye. "Your word. All I ask is your word that'll you be back. I missed you Silva." kam trouble:
"Look, Darlin. Everything I care about in this godforsaken world is right here. Granted, that's not much, but I'm not going to give it up easily. And I always come back." He stepped forward, then leaned down slightly. "And hell, now I have even more to come back to."
Giving Silva a lopsided smile, Ruya nodded. That would have to do. Besides, getting a cape out of a black hole shouldn't be all that dangerous. Right?
"Good luck getting that cape."
"Thanks darlin." He said, dropping down beside her on the steps. "It shouldn't be too hard. Not like when I was trapped on the pirate ship in a bird cage..."
"Pirate ship?" she asked, not sure she even wanted to know. At least he had obviously made it through this ordeal alive. "Lucky for me you seem to be very difficult to kill."
She looked over at him, one of her hands sliding slighty in his direction before she remembered something and halted its progress, hoping he hadn't noticed.
He smirked, leaning back on his hands, one behind her back. "Well, it was an amazon pirate ship. I was caught because well... I got distracted. And they auctioned me off to the highest bidder. She had a thing for No Doubt CDs..." He twitched visibly. "But they were attacked, and I got out while she was... distracted."
"I see. So really all you were in danger of was being forced to listen to music and stare at attractive women all day?" Ruya couldn't help but be amused. "Did you fetch a lot of money when you were auctioned off? kam trouble: "
"You have no idea what type of torture No Doubt can be." Silva replied, sounding vaguely wounded. "And I went for a decent amount." He replied, arrogantly. "I'm a damn good looking feien, after all."
"I wouldn't think amazons would have much use for a fairy." Ruya said slyly. "You're really not very big. In human terms anyway."
"Alright, she was a bit of a... ditz." He replied, snorting. "She looked a lot like Barbie, actually. With pigtails and a wanna-be pirate outfit." He chewed on his toothpick thoughtfully. "All in all I almost preferred the professional killers. She was a bit... terrifying in a way."
"I can imagine." Ruya said dryly, rolling her eyes. Trust Silva to find a living Barbie doll more terrifying than death. "So," she said, changing the subject, "Can I assume you missed me as well?"
"Yeah." He said, almost harshly. "Damn me, but yes." He turned, touching her cheek with one hand.
She had expected him to dodge the question somehow, so Ruya was surprised when he admitted it so easily. It robbed her of words, so she didn't say anything just reached up to touch his hand with hers. And then, hestitantly, not really sure what sort of response she would get, she leaned her face in closer to his.
He kissed her, softly at first, then deepening it once he grew accustomed to the fangs. It was as if nothing had changed... as if they hadn't been apart for months.
As the kiss started her stomach gave a little lurch, but it slowly settled down. Who would have thought it would be this easy to slip back into her life?
After a little while she pulled back, favoring Silva with a satisfied smile and a blush.
"I was worried," she admitted, reaching a hand up to touch his lips. "that you would be glad to have been rid of me."
"Things happen. People get older." He replied, shrugging as he pulled away slightly. "I'm not quite the same as I used to be, Darlin."
"I see." she said, feeling slightly uncomfortable. "I don't think I have." She sighed a little and looked off to the side of the steps, trying to figure out how to classify exactly what was happening here. What she wanted to happen here.
Then he snorted. "Haven't changed that much, either. Still do things I shouldn't, go places most wouldn't." He shrugged. "But right now I figure we just go with whatever happens. Hell, maybe you and me..." He shrugged. "We'll see."
Ah, the situation was undefinable. Not her favorite state to be in, but nothing she could do about it.
She turned back to nod in Silva's direction, signifying her assent to his suggestion.
"Whatever happens, happens."
"That's right." He replied, smirking slightly. "Neruo's missed you. As much as I probably shouldn't mention that, I figure I owe him one." kam trouble: "And why exactly do you owe him one?" Ruya asked, wondering what death defying adventure this might relate to.
"I got him drunk." Was his reply, a little smirk playing on his lips as he remembered. "For someone who doesn't drink the boy can pack it away." kam trouble: Ruya couldn't help giving Silva a disapproving look. "Poor Neruo. What possessed you to do that?"
"Seemed like a good idea at the time. Didn't hurt him, though I bet he had a headache in the morning."
She just sighed and shook her head, trying not to smile. "What was he like? Was he different when he was drunk?"
"A little slurred. And less stuck up." He replied, thoughtfully. "Think Nack was the only one sober by the time I passed out. So it's a bit hard to remember."
She gave him a sidelong glance. "What are you like drunk?"
"Not much different." He replied, fighting back a laugh. "But we did have a conversation about kids."
"Really? I could see Neruo wanting kids, he seems like he would be a good father," Ruya said thoughtfully. Curious, although fighting it, she asked, "What did you have to say about kids?"
"Ice has a breeding ticket. She says I'm going to raise the little s**t. Figure I might as well start thinking about it." He said, shrugging. "Just hope the kid's not a weakling."
That was surprising. Silva with a kid. Huh. She couldn't help but space out a little, picturing Silva commanding some juvenile to do push up after push up.
"Wow. That should be an adventure. Kam didn't let Sunil near me while I was a bloom according to her."
"Then you should thank God." He replied, dryly. "I plan on teaching it to surf. And snowboard." He smirked, already picturing it... kind of. "Maybe fight, too."
"Sounds like your kid will end up very similar to you." Ruya observed. "What if they don't like surfing, snowboarding, or fighting?"
"That's the same thing Neruo asked." Silva muttered, scowling slightly. "I guess I'll have to figure something else out." He laid back, propping his head on his hands and staring at the sky as he thought. "Might have to drag the kid over here. Make you deal with it."
Ruya shook her head, laughing a little. "And what makes you think that I would be willing to deal with your kid?"
She twisted around sitting so she was facing him.
"You took that annoying little butterfly, right? I figure a feien couldn't be any worse than that... or much." He shrugged, smirking in amusement. kam trouble: "I thought the butterfly was a gift," Ruya said, an edge to her voice. "Besides, maybe I'm at capacity. Maybe I don't have room for any more things I need to take care of."
"He was. And it was also for his sake I brought him." He replied, not too bothered. "Nick and Nack would have killed him after a little while. And I didn't mean I'd make you keep it."
"Just figured I'd bring it over when I came over."
"Mmm." Ruya agreed, reaching out a tentative hand to run along Silva's leg. "That would be fine. I just don't think I'd make a particularly good parent right now."
"Hell, and I would?" He asked, honestly amused. He didn't move his leg. "It's like I said earlier. We go with whatever happens. Death's too damn close to live each day like you had a million more."
He turned his head, looking at her. "I guess that's why I'm going on the quest."
"You know who you are," Ruya pointed out. "What you want?" She withdrew the hand and leaned back on both of her arms, her legs still crossed in front of her. "Maybe someday I'll work up the courage and desire to go on a quest. You'll have to tell me all about yours when you return."
"I want... hell, a cape sounds like a good idea to me. Maybe it'll have some badass powers." He replied, a tint of excitement in his voice. "And yeah, I'll tell you all about it."
"Maybe it'll give you the ability to be invisble." Ruya mused, thinking back on the powers of capes in books she'd read. "Although you really already are in the dark."
"It's not always dark." He replied, sitting up. "But it's getting there and I need to pack." He turned, looking at her, then touching her cheek again, before slipping his hand into her hair, brushing the base of her ear. kam trouble: "Mmm," she murmured and then leaned in to kiss him. Maneuvering so she didn't impale him on a fang was tricky and she gave up part way there, leaning back again. "Fangs," she said, blushing furiously.
"I have healing powers." He replied, leaning forward and kissing her deeply. When he pulled back his lip had blood on it, but it was already healed. "And I really want to snog you before I leave."
"Me too. Well, I want you to kiss me before you leave." Ruya said, nonsensically. "I'd like another when you come back, too."
"You can bet on it." He told her, leaning forward and brushing another kiss over her lips.
Ruya leaned back again, trying to hold on to the feeling of being kissed. The excitement of having Silva close again.
"You'd better go. Otherwise I might be tempted to lock you in the basement or something so you couldn't." She smiled a little to let him know she was kidding, at least partially.
"Yeah." He replied, pulling away reluctantly, his hand falling from her hair. "Just something to look forward to when I get back." He said, shoving himself to his feet. "I'll be back."
"I know." Ruya said, remaining seated. "As you said, you always come back." She gave him a lopsided smile. "At least I got to see you again before you left."
"Yeah." He said, stepping back into the newly developing shadows. "See ya, Ruya." He said before disappearing completely.
"Au revoir." Ruya said to the night, before looking up at the night sky. Maybe she'd stay out here a little longer before going inside, get herself together before facing the daunting task of feeding all the pixas.

Sunil's Diary Averno. As a juvenile she made me feel awkward and gangly. As an adult, she manages to continue that trend. I suppose it comes from being under Corvus's wing.
Although I'm sure she sees the error of relying on others now. In the end they always piss you off and let you down.
This means the following things:
1) You must never give all of yourself to another. Always hold something in reserve, so that when they turn around to stab you in the back, you can anticipate it and destroy them.
2) If you want something done right, do it yourself. It's trite, but undeniably true. No one else can be counted on to have your best interests in mind and so they will inevitably choose to screw you over if given the option.
Most people are also stupid or weak, which makes choosing the people you make temporary alliances with very important. People much weaker than you can serve the purpose of making you appear benevolent, but will be of little actual utility. People at your level or stronger will be capable, but unpredictable and dangerous.
Anyway, the purpose of discussing Averno's "unfortunate" situation of having been abandoned by her "instructor" was to mention that she and another adult feien, Patience, wish to start conducting magic lessons where a group of feien assist eachother.
At first I was only concerned with how easy this would make it to impress Averno with my experience, but then I realized that this may serve an even deeper purpose.
If I go to these meetings, not only will I get to direct the learning - but I will also get to see who knows what and more importantly who doesn't. In the interests of "learning" these feien will hand me their weaknesses on a platter. Weaknesses I can record, manipulate, and encourage if I so choose.
I will admit that subtlety is not my strong suit, but this situation is so beautiful because I shouldn't need it.
Anyway, Corvus is missing. Hopefully he is dead, but if I am honest with myself - the b*****d is probably too arrogant and mean to die. It is a small blessing though that he is not present right now, while I am at my weakest since I was a juvenile.
All of my weights were lost while I was gone, but I am working with Kam to recreate them. As I speak, Kam is puncturing bottle caps to slide onto short wooden dowels. This should actually be more flexible than my last system because I will be able to dynamically change weights for different kinds of work outs.
I also need to get back into practicing magic. My bonsai died naturally, since that stupid bondmate of min failed to care for it properly. Not like it is difficult to just watch and water the thing. I think she killed it on purpose to spite me.
Anyway, I have been searching out a new spot to meditate and I have decided that I will appropriate Ruya's windowsill in Kam's bedroom. She doesn't use it and when the weather is even halfway decent Kam keeps the window open a good inch or two allowing me access to my element.

Ruya's Diary The action never stops around here, which I would have thought would be inviting after months of nothing but dull routine. However, returning to a theme I mentioned in my earlier entry, I believe I have become unflexible and mired in routine. I am most comfortable if I do not venture out of the house. In fact, I have done the same thing exactly for the last week.
I wake up around dawn, go into the bathroom where I rinse myself off with a damp washcloth, air dry and grab breakfast from downstairs, feed all of the pixapets, take them downstairs and out onto the back porch for some air, then round them up and bring them back in. Then, until about lunchtime I loosely supervise the herd while I sketch (I've broken off some lengths of mechanical pencil lead) or organize, or clean (I do these three things in rotation.)
Those activites cover the first half of my day, so after noon I have lunch and go out onto the back porch to meditate. I have to admit that my meditation hasn't been particularly effective yet, but I am sure I will get used to the buses passing and the sounds of children playing in time.
After an hour or so of that, I retire to the living room to watch a little TV. Either the History Channel or the Discovery Channel for the most part. I caught a fascinating program on the history of St. Patrick's day not long ago. I had no idea that wearing a shamrock was an older pagan ritual before Catholicism in Ireland adopted it. The things you learn.
Sometimes during watching TV I nod off a little and catch a little bit of a nap. The middle of the day is so lazy.
Whenever I wake up or my program ends, I make my way back upstairs to read. This is the best time of the day to read because by now everyone else has moved into the living room to take over the TV. I am uninterrupted up in Kam's bookshelf. I like to crawl between the books into the back, where I have hollowed out a spot behind some paperbacks for myself. I dragged a whole wad of cotton balls in there to lay down on and I have it set up so as long as the book is a paperback I can wedge it open and lean back to read it without having to hold it open. It's heaven really.
My latest book is a book that Kam recommended. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. It is told from the point of view of a man with autism, which is a psychological condition. So far I am enjoying it.
I suppose I have been avoiding a couple important things, so I will devote some time to them here.
Sunil dragged me to the shop not long after we first got back home. It was not unpleasant, but I hate large crowds of people and the inherent uncontrollable nature of such situations. So I left before Sunil and I was pleasantly surprised when Maquinar (you remember him diary, he lives with the infamous Q) caught up with me. We had a pleasant exchange and he walked me home like a gentleman. I have to admit that he is a very fine specimen of a feien male, but despite whatever Sunil thinks - nothing happened between us.
He did invite me to visit him at his house though, so I may take him up on that offer. Since I am loathe to continue my lessons with Sunil if I don't have to, I may ask dear Maq if he would consent to help me improve my physical abilities.
And the topic I never like to put down on paper - Silva.
I saw Silva in the backyard right after Maq left. He was not as angry as I thought he would be, but he was leaving. Some sort of quest. Honestly it felt like old times, which both thrills me and makes me worry. This is precisely why I don't like to put him on paper. It is such a permanent record of something that always feels so tenuous.

Compiled by azuredreams Compiled Shop RP Log ( March 22nd, 2005 ) Sunil ( kamtrouble ) Kojak ( azuredreams ) Aleksander ( Sevviekun ) Well, s**t. It had been a while since she had come into the shop and now that she finally had, no one was here. How the hell was she supposed to have her fun if there was no one to have it on?
Sunil halted in the middle of the floor with her face screwed up in her usual scowl, placing her hands on her hips in a posture she had found intimidated the pixapets. Not that they were the sort of prey she enjoyed, but beggars couldn't be choosers or however that stupid saying went.
She took a hand off one hip to run it irritably through her hair, flipping it out from in front of her eye. What to do? With no one here she was suddenly at a loss. Hissing to herself, she took to the air. If she couldn't pick on people maybe she could find a way to make a mess in the shop.
There was something unsettling about being at home for the moment, something in general about the place that Kojak couldn't stand. Thankfully, it had nothing to do with the fact the new children were interested in seeing if they could catch him and tug on his wings.
... not that it had happen, but from the gleam in the fox-child's eye he thought it was being considered. ( And if it came to that, he'd do something first before he got nailed. ) Making his way into the shop, he came to a halt on the floor right past the door. It was good to get somewhere and be alone, considering there was hardly any chance for that where he had been.
Though, perhaps he should talk to Valsharess more than he did, but ... well. Sometimes, it wasn't worth trying to figure out just what females wanted. Sheesh. Head held high, he raised himself back up in the air and headed towards the message board to see if there was any news of late. It had been a while, after all, and for the moment -- if there was anybody around -- he didn't seem to care.
Ah ha. Prey. A particularly funny looking specimen too.
Sunil cackled with glee and rubbed her rough hands together, before gliding her way over to the message board. Failing to slow her momentum, she put herself on a course to body slam the poor newcomer right into the board if he didn't notice and move. If he did, she was in a bit of a spot. It was just her sort of game.
Aleksander entered the shop, riding atop Cosnaidis's head. Sevvie had been most reluctant to let him leave the house with just the cat for company, but after Nai had put forth the point that a cat was much bigger than any feien, he wouldn't be in any trouble.
Besides, it wasn't like I could go anywhere alone, he thought with some chagrin. Sevvie had determined from the portions of the feien magic book he'd copied that flight distance was based on magic strength - and apparently, Alek's was very low.
It was the cackling that really clued Kojak in. In fact, he had enough time to glance over his shoulder to see Sunil coming right for him before he tried to get out of the way.
Of course, it wasn't fast enough, because as he felt Sunil hit his arm and send him spinning towards the board anyway. He slid across the ground, bumping into it ( hard ), but had avoided getting completely body slammed.
"... just what are you doing?" he managed to grit out, dual colored eyes looking dazed for a moment.
Alek blinked slightly as he took in the scene taking place as he entered. What could they be fighting about, and if they weren't fighting, why did that blue feien just divebomb that other feien? Was this normal feien behaviour?? He held just slightly tighter onto Cosnaidis's fur.
Since she only knocked her intended victim slightly, Sunil still slammed into the board as well. Winded, but on a total adrenaline high, Sunil giggled as she hovered and held onto her ribs with a free hand.
Knowing she probably looked completely insane, and ok with that persona, she took a couple breaths to calm down before looking over to Kojak.
"Me? I thought you were some sort of large bumblebee. Those nasty little bastards are a nuisance, so I figured I was doing the shop a favor. Who knew there was a ridiculous looking feien like you around."
"I'm sorry, but a bumblebee?" Kojak pushed himself up with a hand, tail twitching for side to side slowly and somehow undamaged in the recent blow. He rubbed his hand against his back for a moment, thinking. This was one odd, odd female. He was seriously beginning to wonder about the sanity of those around here -- or maybe this one.
Wait a minute. She was the one he had seen earlier in the month, but he held his tongue on that. "Guess you don't know your bugs very well, because I'm not one. A little too big to be one." Kojak smiled, all too friendly and charming. Never let it be said that even injured, he had confidence in himself. "Besides, if you're going to call me ridiculous, take a look at yourself first." Miss I Look Way to Insane.
Alek wondered slightly if he should come back another time, but decided against it. He was here now, and dangit, he wasn't going to go home because there were weirdos in the shop. For all he knew, all feien could be either crazy or strange looking. Maybe he was one of the crazy ones then. Anyway. He decided to speak up on the reason he'd come in the first place.
"I don't mean to interrupt, but do either of you know of somebody who could help work with me on magic?" he called, hoping that Nai wasn't above swiping at Crazy Lady if she tried to divebomb him, too.
"Me?" Sunil questioned, looking herself up and down slowly in mock confusion. "Really? I thought curves like this were what men preferred."
God only knew where she got this s**t.
Raising her eyebrows, Sunil made a point of looking Kojak up and down next. She even started to circle around him in the air to get a better look at his tail.
"Stinger?" she asked. "I though you weren't a bug."
"Don't see any men trying to get at those curves right now," Kojak countered, standing up fully, and his tail twitching even more. His smile faded just a little into a smirk, eyes glinting.
It faltered only slightly when Sunil looked him over and he abruptly turned to face her as she commented on his tail. "Are you blind, sweets?" The last word said far too nicely. "It's a tail, not a stinger."
Biting his tongue, however, to stop other commentary, he turned to glance at the one asking about magic. "Ah," he started slowly, keeping a careful eye on Sunil, "I would suggest looking at the notices in regards to that or try posting your own notice about looking for someone." Kojak wasn't exactly strong when it came to magic, though he ... probably should start learning.
Glancing to the new stranger for the first time, Sunil couldn't help but smirk.
"Magic, huh?" she said, actually trying not to scowl for once as she put her hands back into their usual spots on her hips. "I actually am quite good at magic and I might be willing to share. Depends on what you're willing to offer in exchange. Nothing is free. Especially not knowledge."
She decided to ignore the bumblebee. He wasn't as much fun as one might hope for, much to snippity. She'd love to teach him a lesson, but she had to keep in mind she didn't have the same skills she had once had.
"Really?" Alek said, brightening a bit. "Do you know your element?" He wondered nervously if she'd rather he come to her - crazy or not, he was the juvenile after all. Cosnaidis purred slightly in reassurance.
"Brace yourself, little one," she warned, then leapt up to the counter near the other feien so Alek didn't have to fly. He scratched behind her ears in gratitude.
"Of course," Sunil said condescendingly. "It isn't difficult to figure out."
She sniffed a little, giving the cat the eye. She didn't trust cats. Always getting into secret spots and telling on her. Stupid animals. Or rather, too smart for Sunil's liking.
"You just have to find your affinity. Find a spot that makes you feel more alive, more at ease. Figure out what it has that other places do not."
She halted and gave Kojak a sidelong glance. She had been more open that she preferred, perhaps ruining the impression she had made earlier. Damn.
Alek paused to think about that one. "It's a bit harder for me, for some reason," he confessed. "I... I like being around plants, and I know my father was a plant type... but I don't seem to have any real affinity for them. I like being around Cosnaidis, but then she's my friend... I really don't know what I am.." He flushed slightly, unsure if that made him sound stupid.
Kojak merely raised an eyebrow, an amused smile on his face now. Apparently Sunil wasn't as mean and nasty as she had been. Which meant she wasn't all the time, but ... well. She did have that air of trouble about her.
He took a step back as the other juvenile came up with the cat and offered a charming smile and wave in greeting, before turning his attention back to Sunil. "And here I was thinking you were nothing but trouble, and you're helping someone out," the words were quietly spoken, but loud enough Sunil would hear them.
"I feel bad for the moron." Sunil said to Kojak, wrapping her arms across her chest and sticking out her hip in a posture that quite clearly conveyed how bored she was with the whole situation. "The dumber you are, the easier it is to pick on you and consequently it isn't as much fun."
Sunil curled her lip, now concentrating again on the juvenile below her. She had no idea what his element was, but there weren't that many options unless he was something totally new.
"There is a list of elements," she said grudgingly. "You could look for something that sounded like it might bridge plants and animals."
She was supposed to be part of some damn magic class, might as well get used to being more helpful than usual. But not to people she liked. They could damn well learn on their own.
"You though," she snapped, pointing at the bumblebee. "I'm not helping you!"
Alek stiffened and was about to protest that he was not a moron - then realized how childish that would sound. May as well stomp your feet and throw a tantrum, he thought wryly. "Thank you, Miss...?" he started, then trailed off as he realized he didn't know either of their names. He coughed slightly. "I'm sorry, I don't know either of your names," he apologized. "And I completely forgot to introduce myself. I'm Aleksander."
"Can't be helped," Kojak replied, faintly amused, "besides, if someone is too intelligent, I'm sure that takes fun out of it as well. Just have to find that perfect person who reacts just the way you want them to." Even worse, he was thinking about how to pick on somebody, but ... well. It was merely a logical thought.
Rolling his eyes, tail flicking about some, Kojak just snorted. "I didn't ask for your help, sweets. Keep it for yourelf or help out this -- ah, Aleksander bloke." He shifted on his feet, turning to face the other juvenile with a friendly charming smile. It was the kind of smile that made you instantly like somebody.
"I'm Kojak, it's nice to meet you."
"Didn't ask, but probably need it desperately." Sunil said smugly, her amusement having faded - but her arrogance going strong. "And I'm Sunil."
She resisted the urge to add, "I'm sure you've heard of me." since they were both juveniles and it was possible they had not. Poor souls.
Alek inclined his upper torso in a sort of sitting bow. "Pleased to meet both of you," he said. "I think I'll take your advice now, Miss Sunil." Patting Cosnaidis to let her know he'd be all right, he flew over to the list. Fortunately for him, his wings were of the bat-type, not cloth, so he could rely a little more on his physical strength to get there rather than his magic. He stood there and examined the list.
"I don't need anything desperately. It is possible to learn on your own, after all." Kojak spoke back, smirking. And he was intelligent enough to do so, at least that was his thoughts. His confidence, his pride, could get him where he needed to go.
"Ah, Sunil. I've seen you before, but I didn't get your name then." ... and hopefully they weren't scaring off the new juvenile, but then again, he was all ready off and looking at the list.
"You might learn on your own, you might not." Sunil said, sighing a little and looking at her side where she had hit the board the hardest. "There are all those saying about teamwork and two heads and s**t, but I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that. I'd work on your reflexes though."
She looked up and favored him with a serious look, wondering what to make of his comment.
"You should also make it a habit to learn what you can about other feien. How useful they might be. How dangerous they are."
What was this, Sunil gives out advice day? s**t. She scowled at him to save face a litle. She as getting senile in her old age or something.
After a minute or two of mumbling to himself and trying to work with what Sunil had said and what he had felt, he snapped his fingers. "I think I've got it," he said, flitting back to the other two. "The only two that seemed to match at all were Life and Respiration. I tried holding my breath, but I don't think I held it any longer than the average feien, so by process of elimination I have to be Life." He grinned triumphantly, pleased by this small success.
"Hmm. Well, I've got an idea." Kojak smiled, widely, and he raised himself up in the air so that he could be eye to eye with Sunil. "Your advice is pretty good, but how about instead of saying I wanted help with magic from you, I ask that you help me with my reflexes."
He didn't even seemed phased by Sunil's scowl, though the words of advice she offered were carefully filed away.
"Congratulations on that, Aleksander." Kojak gave him a small grin, twisting about and turning in the air to face him. "Life's an interesting element."
She snorted in disgust, making her opinion of the revelation clear. She was not impressed. And as for the other one, the one with spunk...
"Maybe," she said, looking at Kojak. "But I don't have time right now. I'm too busy tonight, but maybe I can squeeze you in some other time. Depends. Nothing for free, remember? Have to think about what you can offer me."
And with that Sunil buzzed her way to the door at top speed. She liked getting in the last word whenever possible. Even if it meant bolting out and pretending not to hear people.
Aleksander startled as Sunil zipped out the door. He sighed. It was probably better not to learn magic from a crazy lady anyway, even if she had helped him figure out his own element. Cosnaidis stretched, and glanced meaningfully at the clock. Aleksander paused to look, then sighed. "Kojak, I'd love to stay and talk with you further and get to know you as a friend," he dropped his voice to slightly above a whisper, "especially as Sunil is gone now," and raised it back to normal again. "But sadly I promised my bond I wouldn't stay out too late and it is approaching 'too late' far too quickly. It was definitely nice meeting you though, and I look forward to meeting again." He looked about, then borrowed one of the quills from the display and a bowl of paint, tearing a blank corner off one of the notices to write on and scribbled down the Life section of the Feien magic book before perching on Cosnaidis's back again. "See you around!" he called, waving as the cat padded out the door.
Kojak rolled his eyes at Sunil. Couldn't she say anything positive -- but she was the mean sort it appeared and probably had used up her nice points all ready for the evening.
"There's all ways favors," Kojak murmured, remembering something he had talked about once. "But I remember that, nothing for free. We'll see when I catch up with you again." Of course, it was questionable if she heard everything, and he only rolled his eyes once more before waving at her departing figure.
His attention went back to Aleksander as he talked, and he nodded his head slightly. Of course, it all ways helped to know another feien, have another friend. "Ah, I can understand that. Don't want to stay out too late, before the bond comes looking for you." Kojak chuckled, knowing Wren would do the same to him, if he didn't know Kojak wouldn't be back sooner rather than later. "See you around then," he called out as the other juvenile was leaving. "Maybe we'll run into each other again." The last bit was murmured and he lifted himself back up in the air to expect the boards as he had meant to before heading out go home as well.

Feien Courtesy Dr. Beckham, Lead Neurologist of the Fleet: "Full juvenile memories were retained; the memory overlay of the adult memories did not affect the juvenile memories. Most memory loss occurred during the time period of directly after attaining adulthood; there was natural degradation in this area of the memory index which was exacerbated by the artificial storage and imprinting. Suspected 40% memory loss for the first month or so following adulthood; memory loss decreases with newer memories down to about 5% loss. Procedure successful. [-----juvenile-----][XXxxx----adult---] X = high memory loss (40%) x = low memory loss (15-25%) - = no/minimal (5%) memory loss" Courtesy Fleet Psychological and Intelligence: "Subject was exposed to two areas of the Fleet, the time dilation device and one medlab, was transported (with considerable argument) under blindfold between the two locations and Gaia. Interacted briefly with Dr. M and for several hours with Dr. Beckham during the memory procedures. Was argumentative with Dr. Beckham and nurse. Otherwise was isolated from Fleet personnel and locations. Subject has slight disorientation due to some minor memory modification to obscure memories of Fleet but should recover fully within three days. Full memory wipe was not performed to preserve the integrity of the new memory imprint. Subject will most likely be able to remember a few glimpses of the visited locations, snippets of speech, names, and partial faces. Security threat assessed as minimal to nonexistent."

[Back in Town]
So, I''m back. Again. And this time I didn''t just get shipped off to Maine to stay in some shitty dorm room. This time I got kidnapped by what I can only guess is an alien army, shrunk back to a juvenile, and then re-bonded to some kid of Kam''s who likes to dismember stuffed animals.
I don''t think Zayne, my new bondmate, realizes what I have now figued out. She keeps trying to get her mother''s attention and then throws private fits when she doesn''t get the praise she obviously desires. The trouble isn''t, as she believes, that her mother doesn''t like her, but that Kam is no longer herself. I could tell the moment I saw the woman wearing her face and it became very clear why Ruya and I had been rebonded.
I still don''t understand why Ruya is a bloom though. She could have been like me, just pushed back to a juvenile. My best guess is that the coward didn''t want to remember her life thus far. Stupid. Nothing is going to change just because she doesn''t remember it.
Speaking of which, I accompanied Zayne to the feien store yesterday only to find the whole thing had been destroyed. Instead bonds and their feien were directed to a large military building across the street. Over there we ran into Silva, who totally lost his cool when he saw Ruya as a bloom. And who had the nerve to call me a midget. I am not a ******** midget! I am a juvenile feien. But I digress. The point was that I ran into an adult Silva and some other male feien named Aleric who seemed to be his bosom buddy. It occurs to me now that I should have gotten in a few barbs about that, but I was a bit too occupied with figuring out what the hell had happened to me.
We also met some freak guy named Doctor M. He seemed familiar and he confirmed that he had something to do with reversing the age of my body. Given his behavior, I should be glad that''s all that he apparently did to me. ******** humans. If only they weren''t so damn big. I''d beat the crap out of all the ones who rubbed me the wrong way.
Anyway, I hope Ruya emerges soon. I do not want to be left alone with Zayne. Although, she might have potential. She is a child now, but these humans do grow.

[Old Friends]Silva Silva Silva paused in mid-flight, looking up at the Fleet building once again. Ice was stuck in her room, obsessing over one of her novels again. Her total concentration seemed to interrupt his work out for some reason.. Although he honestly had no idea why. He shook his head, glancing over his shoulder to see if Aleric had followed him. Oh, wait... the purple feien had said something about doing some writing. He'd disappeared into Kia's room sometime early in the morning. So Silva was alone. A little smirk pulled at his lips as he headed for the buzzer. Just the way he liked it. Sunil After a few days of general disorientation, which seemed to be the worst when she first woke up, Sunil was feeling more herself - whatever that meant. At the very least she had been able to sneak out of the house while Zayne played court to a large group of cowering stuffed animals. As a result she was currently winging her way in the direction of the building which now apparently served as a feien meeting place.
As she neared the building, she spotted a familiar looking pair of maroon wings.
"Silva," she muttered, crossing her arms over her chest. "Figures."
She pulled up short behind him, saying nothing - assuming he would notice her. Silva He pushed the buzzer, then headed in. There was another magic power behind him, a familiar one. But he didn't look back as he spoke. "What? No brat this time?" Although technically she WAS a brat in her current form... Sunil "No," Sunil responded. "Not this time."
The fact that he hadn't looked back rankled, but she was more than aware of the fact she wasn't currently in a position to fight with anyone. Especially not someone, who if she recalled correctly, had managed to hold his own when they were smaller than her.
"You don't have your follower with you either," she pointed out, slipping in behind him. "He get sick of looking at you?" Silva Silva snorted. "Probably." He headed up the stairs, still not looking at her as he stayed oddly silent for a moment. "I keep thinking I should repay the favor from when I was a kid..." He said, finally looking at her. "And beat the living s**t out of you." Sunil Sunil drifted backwards quickly, trying to gain a little space between herself and Silva. While she wasn't helpless, she wasn't in practice - but screw it. Placing her hands deliberately on her tiny juvenile hips, Sunil gave Silva a sarcastic grin.
"Go ahead," she said carelessly. "I'm not afraid of you."
Reaching inside reflexively, Sunil pulled out what she needed to cast shield on herself and held it ready in case Silva took her up on her invitation. Silva He snorted, then laughed out loud. "You wouldn't have a chance this time, midget." He reached the next door, opening it as easily as if it had been feien sized. "Come on. Let's go see if they have any beer." Sunil Pissed, Sunil dropped her hands off her hips but stood her ground.
"I am not a ******** midget!" She yelled after Silva. "I'm a juvenile," she muttered, mostly to herself.
After a pause, she decided she was more thirsty than proud and followed after Silva.
"I don't believe I've ever had beer," she said. "I hear it tastes like crap." Silva "It does. But I don't have high hopes for finding the good stuff here." He replied, not bothered by her midget comment in the least. In fact there was a little smirk on his lips as he headed towards the kitchen. He stopped when he got to the fridge, pulling it open and looking inside. "Nothing. Oh well." He went inside, grabbing the nearly filled jug of orange juice and flying towards a counter. He paused, looking at her. "My guess is that you can't drink from the bottle, can you?" Sunil "I can do anything I want," Sunil said peevishly, glaring in Silva's general direction. Not following his line of thought, she crossed her arms over her chest and asked, "Why wouldn't I be able to drink from the bottle?" Silva He put it down on the counter, then turned to look at her. The jug was at least ten times bigger than her. One of those family sized white plastic deals. "Hell, guess you could dive in..." He turned, looking for some feien sized cups. Sunil The jug was clearly too big for her to handle, but the impossibility of a task rarely stood in her way once Sunil got an idea in her head. Landing next to the jug, Sunil tugged on it in an attempt to - well, she probably hadn't really thought the whole thing out. If she had been perhaps a bit taller, she might have been able to pull the thing over and ended up squished underneath. Instead, the jug refused to move at all.
"Well," she said, kicking the jug. "Maybe I don't want any juice." Silva He snorted, grabbing a dixie cup from those available and dropping it down next to her. "Hold this still for me." He ordered, heading to uncap the jug and hoist it into the air again. "Are you holding it?" Sunil "I don't take orders." Sunil said, holding the cup steady by hugging it to herself. "I do what I want." Silva "All right, Darlin." He said, tilting the jug by hooking a leg under the lower part of the handle. The orange juice started to pour into the cup. He stopped after a few seconds, putting the bottle down. It wasn't much according to him, so she should be able to lift it. Then he lifted the jug again, tilting it towards him this time to take a drink. Straight out of the bottle. Was he showing off? Hell yes. But it was as good as kicking her butt in his oppinion. Sunil Grumbling unhappily to herself, Sunil tugged at the top lip of the cup while watching Silva out of the corner of her eye. Stupid small body, she thought, giving the cup a particularly strong yank. She grumbled even more as the cup pulled out of her hands and righted itself, sloshing orange juice out the side and onto her.
After she shook most of the oj off herself, not unlike a wet dog, Sunil tipped the cup down so she could drink out of it - careful this time to pay attention to what she was doing. Silva He put the jug down and wiped his mouth off with the back of his arm. "Not bad." He said, capping the jug and hauling it towards the fridge. He had to hold it one handed as he opened the door. He put it up, eyeing the food and grabbing a grape from the platter. "Has Ruya turned into a juvenile yet?" Sunil Sunil slowly let the cup back up to its original standing orientation, having now re-learned some of the laws of physics she was relatively sure she already knew. Grinning a bit as the topic of conversation changed, she sat down on the edge of the counter and kicked her legs into the open air.
"Nope," she said, sounding satisfied. "Zayne can't figure out why either."
Her legs kicked a bit more.
"I don't know why you care. She must have gone back to a bloom because she didn't want to see anyone for a while. Why else make that choice?" Silva "They way I hear it, you didn't choose to become a midget. Who says she got to choose to become a bloom?" He dropped down on the counter next to her, looking at his grape before taking a bite. "She won't remember either of us, will she." He said. It was a statement of a fact, not a question. Sunil "Hrm." Sunil grunted, kicking her legs a little faster and letting her heels bang into the counter as she did so.
"I asked to remember who I was." She said finally, without any of the smug tone she had earlier. "I didn't want to start over. I have to assume Ruya is a bloom because she wanted to start over. We didn't discuss our choices."
She took a deep breath before looking at Silva.
"No, I don't think she will. Does that bother you?" Silva "When she changes... I want you to keep shut about the fact that we were... friends, got it? In fact, as far as she should know, I've never met her before in my life." He handed the grape over to her, not feeling hungry anymore, and pulled out his toothpick from behind his ear. "I'm just another b*****d feien she should try to avoid." Sunil Sunil snorted, putting a hand up to forstall getting the grape.
"I already told you I don't take orders. I'll tell her whatever I want to tell her." Sunil grinned, enjoying this finally. "And I'm relatively sure that our old journals still exist somewhere in the house. I'd be happy to show her all her entires on you."
Pausing a moment to lean back onto her elbows, Sunil thought about this new idea. She hadn't been sure what she would do when Ruya became a juvenile, but this line of thought presented some interesting ideas.
"Or maybe I'll just tell her what I want her to know. You really think you can pretend you've never met her? She'll be back to naive Ruya, unaware of anything you put her through." Silva He gave her a dark look, tossing the grape into the trash. "You're dirty, darlin. But I won't have any trouble. She's going to be a kid, right? Kids don't interest me." But the diary part-- "What do you want in exchange?" He asked reluctantly. "For keeping your mouth shut and the journals out of reach. Preferably burned." Sunil "You don't have anything I want." Sunil said, obviously pleased with herself. "Except for the ability to amuse me with your awkward interactions with Ruya."
She kicked her feet some more and began to hum tunelessly to herself the way Zayne did sometimes when she was thinking. Silva "Dammit, Sunil..." He burst out, turning to glare at her. "The last thing I need is for all my past f*ck-ups to come back and haunt me. Especially in the guise of a snot-nosed brat." His eyes went cold and he relaxed, looking away again. "Forget it. I probably won't see her much, anyways." Sunil "Someone's a bit touchy." Sunil giggled, oblivious to the stare. "C'mon, didn't you enjoy your time together?" Silva "Which time would that be? When she was messing around with Neruo behind my back or when she was yelling at me for being a dumbass?" He replied coldly. Sunil Unfazed, Sunil kept needling. "Is that why you kept coming around? Beause you liked it when she hurt you? I didn't think that was the case." Silva "Who the hell knows anymore. Maybe I am a bit masochistic. But she won't be the same Ruya, darlin. We both know that. And I'm not the same as I used to be, either." There was no way he was going to go back to playing tag like when he'd been a brat. He chewed on his toothpick thoughtfully. Sunil "I don't intend to put you two back together like some retarded match-maker," Sunil grumbled. "I just want to have something fun to watch. Everytime you hurt her, I got to have the little thrill of watching and sometimes pushing her a little more away from her confident self."
She sat up, feeling her ablility to get a rise out of Silva slipping away.
"Although the real fun will be watching her fall in love with someone else, won't it?" Silva "It's not like it hasn't happened before." He replied bluntly. And hell, if it was Neruo, then it probably wouldn't even bother him. He snorted, picturing the other tall feien having to crouch down to present his flowers. "I never figured I'd end up as anything other than alone. It works for me." Sunil "I don't think it has," Sunil admitted reluctantly, her feet ceasing their movement. She looked at Silva, while she puzzled something out in her own head. "What did you plan to do if it worked out? What if she had stuck to you?" Silva "Hell if I know." He admitted. "I'm not likely to change. I still do things that could get me killed on a regular basis. And I'm over a year old now. If I don't get myself killed by pirates I'll probably wind up dying of old age soon enough." He fell back, lying on his back and staring at the ceiling, his head resting on his hands. "And to think, I used to be younger than she was." Sunil "I'm older than you," Sunil snorted. "You're not going to die of old age if I didn't."
She leaned over so she could look down at him, her face not far from his.
"Pirates?" Silva He smirked, his eyes closing slightly as she asked. The pirates were one of his more interesting memories. "Which ones?" He asked, much preferring the amazon pirates to the last ones. At least there he had wound up saving himself. "I've also got some serial killers in my past." Sunil "Which ones?" Sunil said incredulously. "Either ones. I've never met any pirates." Silva "When I was a kid..." He started out. Then he paused, frowning. "Hell, was I still a kid then? It's been a while. But I went through the closet door." He figured she would understand that, Ruya knew all about the door, after all... or she had. "It was a pirate ship. But the pirates were all women. Vicious bitches that had men crawing on their knees to keep from getting killed. For some reason that scene didn't surprise me too much. But in the back they were having this auction." He paused, chewing on his toothpick slightly as he picked up on a different magical signature. "Hmm..." Sunil "I think," Sunil pronounced happily, "that I would like these women pirates. Do you suppose they would take me onto their crew?"
She was oblivious to any other feien who might be in the vicinity. Maquinar Sunil Seeing corner out of the corner of her eye, Sunil turned away from Hitomi - who honestly didn't seem like the kind of feien she wanted to interact much with anyway. And who should appear, but - oh wait. She knew him, but his name seemed to be just on the tip of her tongue.
"Maquinar!" Sunil said breathlessly, standing abruptly on the counter. Maquinar Coming a little closer, Maq's eyebrows went up suddenly. "Sunil?" His voice was half-amused, half-incredulous. "What the ******** happened to you?"Sunil Putting her hands on her hips and scowling, Sunil was clearly annoyed to have another person point out her diminutive new size.
"I'm a ******** midget," she admitted, sighing. "I'm a ******** midget." Maquinar "You look like a juvie." Landing on the opposite side of Sunil from where Silva was standing, Maq gave the blue one a good once-over with his eyes, his surprise and befuddlement outweighing his amusement. "How exactly did it happen?"Then, as if the thought just occurred to him, he took a quick glance around the kitchen. "And where's Ruya?" Sunil "I was shrunk and rebonded," Sunil said. After a moment's glare at Maq, she snorted. "Everyone wants to know about Ruya. She really must have gotten around."
She wasn't going to say anything else, but something about Maq was nagging at her. Something attached to him or his past with her that she should remember.
"Ruya is a bloom, again." Maquinar "Well ******** me." His hand stole up to run through his hair, standing it all on end, as his eyes swept the kitchen, taking in everything yet seeing nothing. It had never occurred to him that not only could they be rebonded, but that they could revert in stages, too. In a low mutter, but unconciously out loud, Maq said, "I wonder if Q knows about all this..." Sunil "Q?" Sunil said, closing her eyes. When had she met Maq, perhaps she had met this Q as well...
"Oh s**t," Sunil whispered finally. "Quantel." Maquinar Somehow, the idea that Sunil might have forgotten Quantel pleased Maq, but the sudden recollection, and the words she used to express it, didn't. Biting back a growl, Maq nodded simply. "Yeah, Quantel. Having trouble remembering things?"Sunil "Some stuff is a bit fuzzy, yes." Sunil admitted grudgingly. "I can't seem to remember how we met."
She looked puzzled for a second, but gave up.
"So where is Quantel? I'd like to ... see her." Maquinar Did he really want Sunil to meet Quantel again, after everything that had happened? As much as he would love to keep the two of them separate, that nagging part in the back of his head that warned him against making choices for others wouldn't let him. Begrudgingly, he admitted, "She's out in the main room of this place. The one you hit when you first come in? That one."Sunil Sunil hesitated, feeling uncharacteristically shy. She really couldn't remember anything but a feeling towards Quantel - and she wasn't sure why. She had to have seen her since the period in her life she was having trouble remembering.
"So, how are you Maq?" Maquinar When she didn't immediately take off to find Q, Maq silently released the breath he had been holding. Her question, though, took him a bit off guard. When had Sun cared about how someone was doing? Trying to remember if he had ever really known her as a juvie, Maq shrugged, then grinned winningly. "Much better, now that I'm seeing some of the old guard coming around. Other than this--" here, he indicated her size, "--anything new with you?"Sunil "Not really," Sunil said, her mind on other things. "I'm rebonded, but I think I might have mentioned that. Man, it feels so odd to be smaller than everyone else I know." Maquinar "I bet it does." A low chuckle rumbled through his chest, and he straightened up slightly, looking down at her. "I don't remember ever being that short myself."The sound of the repeated mooing finally caught Maq's attention, and he glanced in that direction. Seeing the pink Feien, and remarkably enough, remembering her name, he lifted an arm in greeting and called out, "Heya, Hitomi!" Sunil "Ugh," Sunil muttered. "You're too nice Maq."
And with that final comment she took off out into the hall in search of Q, who seemed to occupy the back of her mind.

[We Used to Be Friends]
I went to the new shop thing today. You know what? I'm gonna call that thing the stupid from now on. I would like to call it the shop, but it isn't the shop, is it? It is some stupid replacement for the building I grew up hanging out in. So I'm going to call it what it is. Stupid.
Which leads directly into what I wanted to say next. The people in the building are stupid too. I saw Silva again and the b*****d lorded it over me that he is now bigger and stronger. It pisses me off that the tables have turned. That saying pisses me off in general, but the fact that it now applies to my life is even worse. I already went through this smaller, awkward stage. No one should have to go through this twice. Or once really, but life is a b***h.
Anyway, I think I got off track there. Silva was a b*****d, even refusing to fight me. What the ******** is that about? I know I wouldn't win, but I could totally hold my own. Besides, it would give me a fantastic excuse to beat the living snot out of him as soon as I'm back up to my physical peak. I'm going to anyway though. ******** saw Maq too. He wasn't as much of a pill, but he did manage to remind me of a slice of my past. Quantel. b***h. I can't remember how we met, or much about our early encounters - but I assume we had them. The feelings I have when I think of her are all retarded. It's like a tangled ball of stupid crap in the pit of my stomach. I did not end up running into her, but I will someday without a doubt.
How did life become so complicated? And when did I become such a dumb whiner? I need to find a work-out spot, so I can work on myself and my plans for the future. And a hiding spot for my gemstone.

[Visiting the Shop]Quote: Sunil Sunil managed to slip in the door before it snapped shut and headed for the lounge. Once inside, she stopped up short. There seemed to be several feien here, but none of them were particularly recognizable. Or maybe - ah yes, one of them was that guy who had been trailing behind Silva.
Crossing her arms over her chest, Sunil decided to perch on the couch and attempt to eavesdrop on Aleric and that blue chick he was with who looked... vaguely familiar. Cascati It didn't take long for Sunil to notice a presence close by her on the couch; another Feien, wings cloaked around his shoulders and wavy bluewhite hair scraped back off his head in a messy ponytail: there was a small and inexpertly-made cardboard box strapped above his ear, Vietnam-style, and he looked unpeturbed and filthy with ash and soot. A lit cigarette was in his fingers; the lit end was very carefully held, lest it touch any flesh, and he raised one finger to his lips as he smiled at her. The smile wasn't totally nice. "Have we met?" he murmured. "I'd remember." Sunil As she eyed the feien speaking to her, Sunil wrinkled her nose slightly in distaste.
"Hygeine isn't your strong suit, is it?" She said, raising an eyebrow. "And no, I imagine we haven't met. I would also remember someone with your... appearance."
The cigarette intrigued her. She had seen humans smoking such things, but never feien. Cascati He laughed at that, low and practicedly musical, though it was a little rougher than others might have remembered - months of cannibalizing human cigarettes was not good for one's throat, or one's Enchanting Voice. "Forgive me that, honey-love. I assure you I'm usually sparkling. I've been... away." Tramping around in the wreck of the Feien shop didn't help, either. He offered her his hand, turning to look at her more fully, after taking a long drag on the cigarette. The hand was relatively clean, as if he'd tried to scrub it earlier in the sink and the cold water. "My name's Cascati." Sunil Sunil frowned at the laugh, she didn't like people who were overly friendly. And in that vein, she took one look at the proffered hand and crossed her own arms over her chest.
"I am not your honey-love," she said, a little amused. "And I am Sunil."
She quirked an eyebrow at his cigarette.
"Cigarette?" She asked. "I didn't know they sold them in feien sizes." Cascati "They don't." Suppressing a smile, he withdrew the hand delicately as if he'd never offered it; he slid out one of the slim, white-wrappered cylinders from the slightly battered box on his head. "I roll my own, darling. Fancy one? Of course, you mustn't, you're only a little-girl juvie and they'll probably give you cancer." It was offered in his free hand, eyes half-closed, voice still honeyed-innocent. "You're much smaller than the stories I had heard about 'Sunil'. Have you been ill?" Quantel and Ori When Quantel's gaze caught Sunil, her breath did as well, a tiny sound in the back of her throat that took Ori by surprise. A tiny hand reached up and touched Quantel on the arm. "What is it? Do you sense danger?" She tried with her meager magic to pick up what it might be, all three eyes narrowing in focus. With a quick shake of her head, Quantel shook the questions aside, both the one spoke by her ward and the ones swirling about in her head. So this is what Maquinar was referring to... With another gesture, she kept her eyes on Sunil, saying to Ori, "Cover yourself, child. We are to meet those who might judge your outward demeanor."Ears drooping slightly, Ori folded her wings down over her shoulders, shielding the majority of her spines from view. Trepidation took her as she started to follow Quantel over to where two other, smaller Feien sat upon the couch. Sunil "You've heard of me?" Sunil said, clearly pleased. Flattery, while she would never admit it, was the secret to placating her. She reached out for the cigarette in Cascati's palm. "I'm not afraid of cancer," she said, taking it. She looked it over and then asked the obvious question. "How exactly does this work? I've never had one before."
She was much too distracted by this novelty to notice the other feien who had entered the room. Cascati The other Feien nimbly lit the other cigarette at the glowing end of his own, passing it to Sunil with careful fingers; he drew in another long breath of smoke, right into his lungs. "Just breathe it in and get used to it, sweetness. Don't take it too deeply unless you'd like to cough everywhere. Breathe out the smoke. Rinse. Repeat. I put ground-up cloves in the tobacco, so you might taste them." As well as other things. Slow technical explanation over, he relaxed again, grey eyes still always on her. "I'm sure you wouldn't be afraid, though. From what I've heard, you're afraid of nothing." Which just meant that she and Silva should get married and have babies who would be the equivalent of thalidomide feien, but she didn't have to know that. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see the others approaching; all Casca did was sigh, toss back his ponytail, and brace for mental impact. Life was pain. Quantel and Ori The vague recollection of having met the other floated into the forfront of her thoughts, and Quantel spared Casca another glance. Something about a gilded tongue, a lenient nature... It would come to her, if it mattered. She decided it would be best to set down a foot or so from the pair and walk the remainder of the way, and that is what she did, folding her wings inward so that a gentle draft wafted the tendrils of smoke away from her and her approach. Ori kept close by her side, watching the juvies almost curiously. Having never had the pleasure of meeting Ben, she had no idea what it was that the two were handling, and the whole situation was rather intriguing. She would wait, however, until Quantel indicated it was appropriate to speak before asking about it. When close enough, Quantel paused, almost hesitating, as if not wanting to interrupt, before clearing her throat ever so slightly. Sunil Sunil turned the cigarette over in her hand, studying it suspiciously before putting the unlit end in her mouth. Looking Cascati in the eye, she breathed in and almost immediately started coughing. Holding the cigarette out from her body, she put her other hand on her stomach as she slightly doubled over.
"s**t," she said, when she'd caught her breath. "You weren't kidding."
After giving the cigarette another doubtful glance, she tried again - barely breathing in at all this time. She blanched slightly, but managed not to cough - and immediately blew out the tiny amount of smoke in her mouth.
"Why the ******** do you do this?" she asked Cascati.
And then - she heard Quantel and she turned her head. She didn't say anything though, taking in the sight in front of her. Her first thought was that she had no idea who this woman was, but she was hot. But then she connected up that feeling with the conversation she'd had with Maquinar - and she just blinked. Cascati "Because, my dear," he murmured out the corner of his mouth, "once you get it right you do not care about <******** anything. Quantel!" Casca's voice rose in volume, and he made a short and offhand bow in the adult's direction. "You're looking beautiful, as ever." He stuck the cigarette back in his mouth and took a deep drag, grey eyes flicking from her to the strangely-quilled juvie by her side. "And who's your sweet little friend?" Quantel and Ori As she had been recently harping on Ori about the proper way of doing things, Quantel really couldn't ignore a direct greeting from Casca in favor of first speaking to Sunil. Her head inclined in his direction, causing a light fall of hair to tumble over her shoulder. Brushing it back with the side of her hand, she replied, "I see you are ever the gentleman, Cascati. This--" here she indicated Ori, who bobbed her head quickly, "--Is my ward, Ori."Quantel turned her gaze towards Sunil as Ori added a soft-spoken, "A pleasure." The blue Feien's smile was smooth as silk. "And this would be Sunil, I believe. Much changed from when we last spoke..." Those sapphire eyes moved over Sunil's new, diminuative stature. Cascati "She had the flu," Cascati supplied helpfully before Sunil could give an answer, giving Ori a rather thorough once-over. Ward. Goodness, that was what they were calling it these days. One of his eyebrows cocked up. " Enchante." Sunil "I'm not sure I recall the last time we met," Sunil said to Quantel, feeling a bit dazed. The greeting she had just received didn't seem to match the impression she got, but perhaps the upset in her stomach was simply the damn cigarette.
Scowling, Sunil took a drag from the cigarette and fought off the tickle in her throat that threatened to make her cough.
"Quantel," she packed a lot into that name. "I've been reversed in time. I'm now a juvenile again. I have not been sick," she gave Cascati a glare, "Nor am I a midget - just to disabuse some of the popular notions people seem to have about my new size." Quantel and Ori Quantel's nostrils widened in distaste, as the first whiff of smoke met her nose. While not as overpowering as the clouds Benedict would puff in her direction, it was nevertheless uncared for, and she waved a hand before her face, fanning it away. She smiled kindly enough, however. "I had heard a theory or two myself, though none were of the nature you have just shared, Sunil." Ye gods, but it was difficult to keep the elegant caress from her voice as she spoke the now-juvenile's name. Under the eye of Casca, Ori's ears dropped a tad more, and she instinctively closed her third eye, as if it would draw less attention that way. They're both so... normal. It was as Quantel had said, apparently. Few Feien were such as she. Sunil "So," Sunil said, attempting to imitate Cascati's easy way with the cigarette. "Who is your freakish friend?"
As she took another drag, she blew the smoke to the side in an unconcious nod to Quantel's unspoken dislike of the stuff. Cascati Cascati merely gave Sunil a melting smile of infinite sweetness, his favourite one which he practiced in the mirror, and turned his head to blow his smoke away from the little group. He tried to suppress a snigger at her approximation of Ori, but didn't quite make it. "Now, now, darling," he admonished her languidly. "If Quantel wants to ******** a mutant, she can all she likes and you shouldn't call attention to the horrible freak of nature. Of course, it must be a bit like getting intimate with a porcupine, mustn't it?" Quantel and Ori There was a very long heartbeat of a moment where Quantel really, truly, had no idea what to say to that. She went ever so still, looking at Casca in disbelief. Beside her, Ori's third eye was joined by the other two, all scrunching shut as she attempted to wish herself away from this place. Away from shaming Quantel, as she was apparently doing. It was with a soft laugh that Quantel finally found her words. "Now, now, Casca... And here I thought you polite enough to avoid such topics in mixed company." She laid an unseen, magical hand on Ori's shoulder, sensing the other becoming disquieted, only to be mildly surprised when her spell went awry and landed instead on Sunil's knee; after all, a knee and a shoulder were similar in composition, and she didn't realize immediately what she had done. Cascati "I am, love," Casca soothed, all eyelashes and tossing his hair back again like a girl. "Only I must be so rough from my time in the barren wilderness. Look at my poor split ends. Look at my awful rough skin. Why, I'm just like Silva. Soon I'll be giving myself a rat-tail and not being ashamed of trying to copulate with anything that moves and some things that don't." Sunil Sunil's eyes were already wide from Cascati's comments, but then they got even wider as she felt something on her knee. Looking for the magical source, her eyes fell on Quantel.
Had this happened to anyone but Sunil they might have kept their mouth shut. Unfortunately Sunil wasn't known for considering her words carefully.
"I don't know what you're trying to pull," she said to Quantel, forcing herself to look calm and unaffected. "But I'm not interested in joining you and your... partner."
She took a drag off the cigarette in her hand and batted at her knee, trying to remove the uncomfortable touch. Quantel and Ori "So you have made aquaintances with Silva... That would explain things." She nodded thoughtfully, even as she removed her magical touch from Sunil's knee. Quantel was tempted momentarily to pretend that she had no idea as to what Sunil was referring, but decided to play it off as an accident, as it was. She bent her head apologetically towards Sunil. "I beg your forgiveness. A slip of the wrist, so to speak."Her next spell, much more focused, found its mark, and she pinched the soft flesh beneath Ori's ribs, where the darker markings would hide any sort of bruise. This caused Ori's eyes to flash open, her unconcious spell casting to fall away. Cascati "I've made acquaintance with Silva, ma'am," the icefeien said agreeably. He took another long drag on his cigarette. "I just adore him. I could just eat him up. I could just pick my teeth with his bones. I could just bury his remains where nobody would find them. He's adorable, no?" Sunil Sunil tried to find amusement in Cascati's little run on Silva, but she couldn't take her eyes off Ori. She didn't like the unspoken bond between her and Quantel and she didn't know why.
Taking one last drag off her cigarette, Sunil threw it on the couch and stamped it out with her foot the way she had seen humans do and ignored the flare of pain in her sole.
"I don't remember you having a pet before, Q. When did you pick her up?" Quantel and Ori Ori fought the urge to rub at the tender spot on her ribs, focusing instead on being as quiet and presentable as possible. The physical pain was little match for the mental, every warning Quantel had ever given her sounding off again in her mind. They will see you as a lesser being. A freak. They will not try to accept you as I have... The one comfort she could find was in the fact that she knew Quantel would support her no matter what, yet that comfort was dampened by the thought of what that support would cost the adult Feien among the other Feien in the community. Quantel was loving this, however. Nothing could have cemented her control over Ori more firmly if she had planned it, and the words Casca spoke now... Well, there was hope there. "Despite Casca's insinuation, Ori is merely my Bond's newest Feien. I have been fortunate enough that Teralinth turned to me to help raise her properly."She couldn't help it. Really. "You do remember Teralinth, do you not, Sunil?"Cascati Ori gave off all the confidence of a whipped cur; Casca stubbed his cigarette out in the wall, leaving a minute black mark, before dropping it conveniently down the back of the couch where all debris was destined to go. He felt a passing stab of pity for her; it didn't matter if Quantel was having sex with her or not, she was still screwing her over. Oh, well. As if he'd do any different. "How does it feel being a mama, Quantel? It must be terribly difficult." Sunil "I see," Sunil said, narrowing her eyes. "I didn't recall you being into juveniles." Not that she actually recalled much of anything. "And no, I don't believe I do recall Teralinth. I forgot many of the less important things from my past."
She waved a hand in Quantel's direction. However she felt about this woman, it was clear she didn't feel the same. Or so Sunil's reasoning went. Quantel and Ori "Not too terrible. I am fortunate in that Ori is such a quick study." Here she laid her actual hand on Ori's shoulder, the younger Feien perking up almost immediately. Quantel's other hand came to rest over her collarbones, and she graced Sunil with a smile. "So I would be one of the more important things? That touches me."As it was a rare thing, the physical contact brought strength to Ori, quieting her nerves. There was something, however, going on between Quantel and Sunil; she had never heard the older woman speak in such tones to anyone. Ever. Her expression grew quizzical. Sunil "Actually," Sunil said. "I didn't remember you until Maquinar triggered some memories. Sorry." She smiled at Quantel, happy to be able to show her how little she cared that the woman was touching someone else.
She glared at Ori. If she ever found her away from Quantel, she fully intended to do something nasty to the other juvenile. Cascati Perfect. Ori was Quantel's bred-in-the-bone submissive and Sunil and Quantel were in the middle of an amnesiac-flavoured and definitively strangled lover's tiff. Like the other juvie, he watched the exchange with a faintly puzzled expression; his hands settled at the back of his head, pulling the thong away from his hair, combing through the tangles absently as he watched. "Sounds like memories better laid to rest, Sunil-love," he drawled. "The set-up looks ever-so-slightly sleazy." Sunil "You're probably right, Cascati." Sunil said, letting her arms hang by her side. "Thanks for the smoke."
With that last comment, the juvenile abruptly lifted off the couch.
"I'm sure we'll all meet again whether we want to or not," she said as she headed for the door. Quantel and Ori "You were ever the popular one with him." After months of practice, mostly with Ori, it wasn't difficult in the least to keep any trace of bitterness from her voice. Ori turned her attention to Sunil, catching the look she was given. Something about that expression breathed "challenge", and she met the other's eyes full-on. It was the words that Casca spoke next, however, that caused the sudden shift of her wings, her spines lifting enough to be visible. A wry laugh; what was it about this situation that caused such sensations in the crux of Quantel's heart? "Your mind would appear to be perpetually in the gutterbin, Casca. You and Maquinar would not be dissimilar, methinks." Cascati " Au revoir," he called after Sunil, not bothering to turn his head around. "Until we meet again, dearling." Well, it was comforting to know that every Feien was apparently a bundle of uncomfortable neuroses. Casca flopped down on the indentation between sofa-back and cushion, leaning back on his elbows, gaze going to Quantel once more. "I just think I know how the world works, petling. Everything comes back to the gutter, doesn't it?" His eyes moved to Ori again. "At least she's less pink than her Divness," he remarked cryptically.

[Beware of Kid?]
Sunil was working out on the windowsill (to enjoy the occasional breeze) when Zayne came storming back into her room and slammed the door so hard something pink and delicate leaped off a shelf in fear. Luckily, the plush carpet kept it from breaking. Unluckily, Zayne kicked it viciously into the wall - breaking it into several sharp pieces which she ignored.
"SUNIL!" Zayne screamed, flouncing down onto the bed with her skirt spread in a circle around her. With a sigh, Sunil put down the bolts she had stolen from a drawer in the kitchen and made her way over to perch on her bond's shoulder.
"Yes," the feien said, not bothering to hide her irritation at being interrupted. "What is it now?"
Zayne flipped her hair with one hand, forcing Sunil to jump to avoid getting smacked. Taking that as a hint, Sunil perched again on Zayne's knee. She scowled, however, placing her hands firmly on her hips and staring Zayne down.
"You aren't very interesting," Zayne said, apparently calmer. Her moods came and went like this, except in public where she seemed to try and maintain her veneer of a shy and polite little girl. "So I want Ruya to come out. I'm sure she'll be more interesting, since she has more color."
Sunil privately doubted Zayne and Ruya would get along that well, but at least maybe she would be left to her own devices more. "What the ******** does that have to do with me?"
"Little girls shouldn't swear!" Zayne said, her face clouding again in anger. She reached out with one hand to pinch Sunil, but the fairy easily slipped out of her grasp.
"You're right, of course." Sunil placated, gliding back over to perch on Zayne's knee. "But returning to the topic you brought up - you can't make Ruya bloom, so why don't you look into getting another pet."
This suggestion caused Zayne to clap her hands in glee and bounce her knees slightly. This also had the adorable effect of making the wavy ends of her dark hair bounce slightly. Honestly Sunil couldn't help but be impressed with her bond's ability to appear to be anything she wanted.
"What should I get?" Zayne said, her violet-blue eyes wide. "Maybe a bunny or a kitty?"
Even Sunil didn't want to see the horrors Zayne could inflict on a helpless kitty or bunny. Besides, she had something else in mind.
"How about a lizard, like an chameleon?" Zayne looked confused until Sunil continued. "You feed them live insects."
That thought pleased her bond in a way that both unsettled and pleased Sunil.
