Keelthy post 8 Keel was impressed at her stoicism. He was not sure he could have pulled it off were he in her shoes...er slippers. She looked a little pale but well so did everyone to him. He flashed a cheeky smile at her..she looked so serious. Poor thing. He proceeded to pay thr healer and escorted her out. He returned with a pitcher of water and two glasses.
"This will help its a hot day, I got it from the cool room." He drank some himself and leaned against the wall. "The healer is a professional, she assures me that your arm will heal as long as you are careful and don't tick off any more Obans. Well not in so many words.

Fleade post 9 She hadn't meant to scowl at him but it came unbidden. Waiting until she heard the firm closing of a door, Fleade turned her look back upon the man in front of her. "I'm not as much of an idiot as I'm sure you believe me to be." Fleade's golden gaze stared him down. "If it weren't for Obans, things would be much different."
It was true. Her mentor would still be alive and it wouldn't be as awkward around Neued where the man's wife and family still lived. Who knew what life would have brought for her. The ice woman likely wouldn't be so full of hate for a single people and fear wouldn't spike in the back of her head making the small hair on the back of her neck rise any time she was around an oban. All because of what they did. To her. To her people. To Tendaji. To the Matori. It was unforgivable...wasn't it?

Keelthy post 9
That stare gave him tingles but he wasn't sure what kind. He quirked a brow at her and stayed silent for a moment. She was right, if it were not for Obans maybe he wouldn't have gone through what he had. "You need not preach to me about Obans, If I could have chose I would not be one of them. You know little about my past. Perhaps one day I will tell you." She was worked up, he knew instinctively that telling her his story now would do nothing. The woman reacted to pain like a wild thing. So he turned and left to let her stew on it, and let the curiosity have a chance to work.

Fleade post 10 The man's actions did leave much to the imagination. She didn't know why he had saved her, first of all, even after knowing her actions leading her to that result. Still, she said nothing and that seemed just fine with him as he left her alone.
It would be a few more days until Fleade was feeling much more like herself. The pain had subsided and her aching body felt much more normal. She found herself standing and walking around the room. Her left hand hesitantly trying out a blade but left her right one be so it could heal. Pushing herself wouldn't solve anything.
Still, she stood in front of the door to 'her' room with blades hanging at her sides. Should she go out? She didn't know what was on the other side of the door, nor was she really sure she was ready to know or to go out into the world again. If fleade would admit to herself, she had shelter here, was she ready to give that up in order to have all the freedom she wished? Did she have all the freedom she wanted now? The iceling wasn't sure.

Keelthy post 10 Keelthy wondered when the woman would be brave enough to poke her nose outside that door. He was outside watching her window. Should she come out she would be free but he was reluctant for some reason to just let her go. He knew what it was he was feeling now and he didn't want to admit it, he was frustrated that his heart had apparently chosen this stubborn girl to fall for but perhaps it realized that Varinia was no longer a viable option. This made him feisty which he had not felt in well a really long time since his family had ceased to mess with him. Perhaps today he would tell her his story. He went upstairs where it was impossibly quiet in her room. Was she sleeping? He knocked quietly and came face to face with her. Be still wild heart. "Hi." Now he could have come up with a more creative remark buuuut well she had startled him in truth which made his heart race a little and he was a little disgusted with it at the moment.

Fleade post 11 It had taken a bit of standing at the door for her to realize she couldn't make up her mind. With a sigh, she went and sat on her bed, her good hand rubbed her forehead as she tried to think. How had things gotten so complicated? She shook her head and a few moments later heard a small knock on the door before it opened and he peeked in with a simple hi.
It was a simple enough thing, non threatening as she had learned him to be. She nodded to him and looked down at the floor, thinking on her words. "Why did you do it? Save me. When you knew why they were after me." Her gaze found his and while she held it, it held none of the malice it might have once had. Instead, it was full of confusion. Almost like a caged and frightened animal but the cage door was left opened, leaving the animal to wonder if it was a trap.

Keelthy post 11 "I didn't know why they were after you, but curiousity compelled me to follow anyway." He remembered pausing on that ridge and the racing down. "I wanted to know why and to help if I could. Obans have not always treated me fairly, perhaps had it been one oban chasing you, I would have let you deal with him, but so many to one was not as it should be, no honor no valor no morals." "Not even my family has behaved as good people should." This was the right opener, but he still felt hesitant, guarded. Would she think less of him if she knew the truth? That he had run from his problems and wished himself a shifter so he could fit in.

Fleade post 12 Her lips pressed together into a thin like as she thought about his words. Even he seemed to pause and think on something after speaking about his family. With a sigh, she gave up. There was no point in even thinking about being hostile with him. Fleade wasn't even sure he would fight back if she took her blades to him.
Once again, she nodded. "Well...I--...thank you." She avoided his gaze she'd never spoken in such a way to an oban before, though she'd never had reason to. She took a moment before returning her gaze to him, it was a little softer than before but still with a hint of fear behind them. "If you hadn't, there's no telling what kind of shape I would be in now."

Keelthy post 12 "Precisely, and for some inexplicable reason, I didn't want that to happen. Perhaps because my own family banished me once, because I am a dancer and not a warrior. It is why I carry twin daggers so that they would accept me. My own family..." his voice tried to break on him but he smothered the emotion. "I went north with my brother Reillan to Jauhar and wished I was a shifter....so that maybe if I had a family there I would be accepted for who I am not who they wished me to be." He stopped talking unable to continue. Unable to look at her, in case he see that she too thought he was unworthy as a being.

Fleade post 13 As she listened, the corners of her mouth turned down in a frown. How could someone's own family treat them in such a way? She couldn't even begin to imagine if her family behaved in such a way. Fleade paused, unsure of what to say. Of what she should say. Her broken arm reached up to lay a hand on his knee before a spike of pain caused her to set it back down across her lap. Looking away, she bit the inside of her cheek as she tried to figure out what she should say to him.
It wasn't like she could empathize, she'd never had her family act like that. Instead, maybe she'd try it from a different angle. She had lived among shifters for a time in Neued. She knew how they were.
"The shifters tend to be rather welcoming, though I'd have to be a bit surprised knowing how they'd take to an oban, with it being the Shifters lands that were invaded. They tend to be a good bunch. At least from my experiences with them." She felt awkward. Should she say something else? Do something? Fleade felt like Keelthy had opened his heart and yet all she had known to do was to stomp on it, which she was trying really hard not to do.

Keelthy post 13 "They did not really accept me but I was able to watch how they worked together as a unit, with other peoples as well. It made me somewhat ashamed of what I was but not who I was. Because I like who I am, even though i expected others to as well at some point. If I didn't have my brother there I would have been desolate. But we all have battles to go through, I am stronger for it though I resent the necessity." He felt rather exposed and rather like he would like to eat a lemon to distract him from his reverie.

Fleade post 14 With his expansion upon what happened, she felt a small smile come upon her face. "That, I understand. I....I took learning the blades so much more seriously after everything happened. I had to. I needed a way to defend myself. After being taken captive....I just couldn't let that happen again. It changed me. Sometimes for the better, and other times, well, you know. I don't know what it's like to be ashamed of what I was, but I understand being ashamed of actions. I've ran away from far too many things in my life." Fleade's paused, a small snort as she realized the irony of things. She met him because she was running away. And now, she didn't want to run anymore. "It's hard....it's hard to look upon bad experiences and know that perhaps you needed them despite all the hurt it caused."

Keelthy post 14 Keelthy's eyes widened. So she had been kidnapped, and now she was actually opening to him. He tried to suppress his interest but his body turned anyway, towards her. He was focused now entirely on her, on her words. "I understand, even though we wish it had never happened, never touched us, changed us, created someone else of who we were, perhaps it is not altogether unfortunate that we did change, can now accomplish something different than what we would have been capable of before." "The truly difficult part is looking back at the scars and remembering why we are who we are now."

Fleade post 15 Once more, she nodded. He was right, and she knew it though she'd never really heard it be put do eloquently. Fleade had to admit it made her a little weary knowing he had a way with words. But in her experience with obans, if he was going to do something he would have done so by now.
When Keelthy shifted towards her, she shifted slightly away. Habit was hard to overcome especially when trust wasn't all the way gained yet. "People suck." Fleade said simply.

Keelthy post 15 He smiled wryly, "They really do, don't they." It wasn't a question. "It seems safest to only trust a very few, and keep all others at an arms distance away." He stared out the window, pity that life had to be this way. He pulled out his daggers and laid them on her bed. "Symbols of my own prison, would that I were without them, but now to loose them, I would be defenseless it would feel, no metal between me and the world. My hand to hand combat is good but now I seek the comfort of the cool steal. A defense from all comers. I don't know how healers do it. Take what has been broken by others' thoughtless actions and fix it."
