Oh boy. McDonalds. "I have to admit, the amount of salt they put on anything over here is a bit much for me," he said with a slight frown, "How about instead of McDonalds, we meet up some other time and I'll cook for you," he grinned, "I'm a great cook and it'd be my pleasure to hook you up." With food.

Again, a very clear - if slightly exaggerated - look of contemplation. "I mean, not gonna turn down free food, but if I can't treat you to a five dollar meal how can I ever convey my thanks??" Amaris' grin was devilish, despite her distressed tone. "But sure, alrighty, gimme your number, sunshine."

HA. Sunshine. He liked that. "I'll let you buy a $5 ingredient," he joked, pulling out his phone and taking a minute to find his number in it. A few weeks overseas and he still didn't know how people were supposed to contact him.... "Alright, if you're ready, it's XXX-555-7987." he spoke clearly and slowly, as though very used to doing step-by-step instructions out loud. Which he was. "I can't promise I won't text you food pictures, though. I do that."

"You blinded me with science," Amaris said, ever blithe, fingers skittering over the screen of her phone to get Cassian's number entered. "Or with daylight? Sunlight? It's not like magic pays, but I want a metaphorical raise for all the times I get magic-blind." There was one new text. It was composed of one picture, with no caption.

Cassian laughed nervously. "I hope not that kind of Science, though," he replied, looking down at his phone as it GODZILLA SCREECHED from the new text. "I can only pay you in cookies or something, I dunno if that's considered a raise, tho," he said as he idly tapped back a message into his phone. Amaris was blessed with a single image in return. "Alright, that looks good. You want to walk with me a bit or just text me sometime when you're free to be treated to a meal?"

Amaris caught herself halfway through an inelegant snort and managed to wrangle it most of the way into actual laughter. Her standards on humor had been low for years -- this was nothing new, the way she saw it, but it was a good icebreaker. (Also, she'd almost broken his nose? The fact he was willing to look past that said a lot of good things for their future friendship, if it happened.) "Realistically I should probably head home? My sister gets outta school in a bit, and like the classically overbearing sibling I am, I have to make a huge deal out of it and tell her how much I love her." She shrugged. "You know how it goes. If I don't embarrass her, who am I, really."

"Oh yeah, I need to send my brother at least three more overbearing big-brother texts and a cat meme," Cassian said, typing into his phone as he said so, probably to send at least the cat meme. "But that sounds good. I'll wish you a safe trek home, Amaris." he saluted with one hand and a half-grin as he stepped past her to get back on the main stretch he'd been walking along originally. Hey, that had been a relatively safe encounter at least. Amaris would later receive a text outlining a few days and what he was cooking which day for 'test recipes' to see if she was interested, at least.
