"There's people who care about you and know when something is wrong. You aren't exactly required to ask." He turned back around and looked down at himself. "I'm just sorry I made things worse. I mean, you're attractive and all but that s**t gets discussed first. I don't just ********.. I dunno... jump on people." He shrugged. "I just thought maybe he'd know how to reach out to you and help you better. I kinda panicked honestly."

"So you thought the person I broke up with, the ONE person I don't want to talk to right now when I feel like absolute s**t, is who could smooth this all over? Well good. I just have my ex under the disguise of you try and seduce me and see if I would bite. And then make a nice little laugh over it and try and smooth things over like everything is fine. Great job. Really improved my feelings there, Al." He gave them a thumbs up as he leaned back further and crossed his arms.
"Flattery aside, I can look like a ******** model but it doesn't change the fact I turned back on my friends after Rin died to be with Lawr, defended him for years, and had my messups with Mik and a STD brought up all over twitter over and over again. No one is going to bother looking past that. It's out there for anyone with a few thumb swipes to find. Lawr can't even ******** fix his own reputation. I'm always going to be tied with it. I made that bed for myself."

Noah fidgeted in the chair, unsure what to say to that. It wasn't wrong, really, and saying that things would be okay in the face of all the problems Melvin had outlined would be pretty stupid. He wasn't going to insult Melvin's intelligence that way. "What are you going to do?" he asked after a moment, subdued.

"I thought at the very least he'd show some compassion. But he didn't. When I asked why, all he could tell me was it was because I treated him like he was older than me forever ago." Al shrugged with a genuinely dumbfounded look on his face. "Honestly, how could anyone predict such cruelty?" Al knew better now. The rumors about Lawr making more sense suddenly.
The rumors about Melvin though... Al listened and frowned. "You know this place Melvin. s**t is so hectic all the time that stuff like that eventually gets buried and - for the most part - forgotten. I just. I want to make sure you don't give up man."

He was quiet.
The music continued to play on low though the words were hard to pick out, all blurring to a low series of drums, guitars, and screaming.
"I don't know what I'm gonna do."
He shifted a little but didn't bother looking at either of them.
"I thought I was doing the right thing and later thought I could salvage what I could. Now I don't even have enough wreckage to make anything."
"I'm just too tired. What's the point in anything?"

It was kind of disturbing how exhausted Melvin sounded. He sounded like he'd already given up. Like he wasn't entirely here. Saying don't give up would be another platitude that didn't really mean anything. Noah shifted in the chair, looking to Al to see if his boyfriend had anything to offer.
"I don't know what the point is," he admitted honestly, "but ... um. You're not dead, that's something, right?"

Al gave Noah a wide eyed look that said 'see??' He sat there a moment in silence then took a sudden deep breath and exhaled loudly.
"Melvin, there's more to life than just this bad s**t. I don't know what the 'point' is for you, since that is something only you can find for you. Bad s**t happens sometimes to throw you off course..." He nodded at what Noah said, it felt wrong and about as helpful as he felt right now, that is, not much. "Me an Noah are no good at articulating s**t. Have you thought about seeing a professional? They know how to help."

Melvin sighed and slowly let himself slide to one side to fall over against his bed, turning his face to the mattress.
"There aren't any professionals I know here." He whined into the mattress, voice muffled but still able to be heard.
"i just wanna sleep forever."

"Then we go off-island, all three of us. We can find you a professional you like. You might have to conceal certain things about your life, but the basic stuff is what's important." He shrugged at Melvin. "Can catch a movie and dinner after, make a day of it."
He looked at Noah and pat the spot next to himself on the bed invitingly, "Our door is also always open.... just don't be offended with what you might walk in on if you forget to knock."

Melvin lifted his head enough to speak. "Oh goodie. I can be the third wheel while you to get to ******** and enjoy your weird scarf sex."
Yes. He did remember aspects of his drunken night at the bar.

Noah kicked one foot in Al's general direction, even though he wasn't close enough to land an actual kick. It was the gesture that mattered. He was slightly red, and he didn't move over. "Why are you fixated on the scarf?" he asked Melvin.
Distraction: successful.

Melvin elicited a very stiff and drawn out, "Oh. My. God. No, Melvin." out of Al. Who stared at him. "I told you I don't wear it during. I'm fully naked." A pause as Noah flailed a foot in his direction. He stuck his tongue out at Noah, "You have terrible aim."
Then Al resumed, "Well, sometimes I do wear socks."

"Wooowwww. Really going wild over there, you two. Naked or socks. Gotta write up Playboy to write a fresh column on your crazy sex life."
To which Melvin sighed and planted his face back on the mattress. "At least some people get something."
Noah's comment had him turning his head again. "I'm not fixated. I just never see him take the thing off."
To which he looked at Noah. "Never put that thing on my head again."

"I'd have terrible aim if I'd been aiming," Noah retorted.
To Melvin, he protested, "I didn't put it on you. You did."
