Gretchen frowned further as her question seemed to be passed over and more folks stood up to give their own short presentations. She wasn't entirely sure what to do here, and ended up standing awkwardly through them until Lucky finally got back to her.
"Is that documentation somethin' we all have access to?" She wasn't trying to be difficult. She understood they all knew who among the residence of Deus had the marks, but those of them that were newer didn't. "If not, it'd be good to know who to discount, otherwise us newer to the island wouldn't know who was or wasn't supposed to be here."
She knit her fingers together, gaze jumping from Lucky, to Samuel, to Gale, then back.
"I'm sorry. It just seems like somethin' important to know, given the sort of threat they pose."

A gangly youth chose that moment to stumble into the meeting, muttering apologizes and making his way to what he hoped was the front of the 'class' to gather the packets that had already been handed out to the others. He was tall in that too-skinny way that marked a boy in the middle of an earnest growth spurt, with dark skin and eyes and a hi-top that had clearly traveled straight out of the 90's. His sagging trousers (barely held up by a belt) and oversized shirt were, however, firmly modern.
His eyes barely flicked up to meet Caelius's.
"Er. Hey teach."
He shuffled quickly to the back of the room, sorting through the disheveled papers and trying to go unnoticed, although he did issue a guffaw when he read the bit about a "teenager crisis".

"If you're talking about the Ourboros stuff," Samuel commented dryly to Gretchen, "don't look Lucky directly in the eye, he'll find you and he'll remember you. But I can answer that, since our division is information based, what you have access to depends on your current rank, trainees being sort of the gopher of this totem pole. In your case, since you're intermediate, you'll have limited access to things such as our names, birthdays, zodiac signs, favourite foods and maybe blood types. Anything else, well, it would require some personal research time wouldn't it? I'm sure there's some more experience Hunters in this division out there looking for an internship." He winked.
When Wash arrived, Samuel shot a confused look at Mark who shrugged and looked at his lead who didn't care.
"Er, yeah," the Death assistant said, "any like, any other questions of any importance that aren't like related to anything that could possibly offend anybody or anyone you know specifically you know, in this room."

It was absolutely impossible not looking directly at Lucky as Samuel suggested she not, The periodic flick of her gaze in his direction, lingering for a second or two, before returning to the other hunter. And then widening a touch as he further went on to explain the sort of information she now had access too. It seemed a little much. But then who was she to really judge? Maybe there was more to the whole zodiac thing than she'd always thought.
Of course even that took a back seat as Samuel suggested personal research time, and internships before winking at her. This was met with a curiously thoughtful look, and a slight purse of lips.
"Thank you, that clears things up a bit. And I'll have to look into that internship thing." She gave him, and Lucky(though he wasn't all that helpful) a grateful smile, then reclaimed her seat.

A very long lapse of silence. A couple of people might have coughed - it felt a little like waiting for the most unpleasant opera rehearsal to start.
"Great," Mark looked down at his clipboard and up again, and then flipped through about five different pages before tossing it aside, "So I've like, updated everyone's phones with specialization Hunters and if they have one, directions to their office."
He then cleared his throat and looked like he was about to lose his nerve. "Uh, so the assessment part-"
-"The results will affect your promotion and your additional monthly bonus," interrupted the Death lead.
-"Which means apparently we're paying you for this," Mark clarified, distracted just for a second at the loud shouts and cheers from Sun Hunters outside on the training fields, "Bring everything you think you'd need, this is pretty much a field survey and recon test, bring runics, your Spectre Watch, everything, and we'll see you at the lighthouse in ten minutes."
"Five minutes."
"Five minutes," Mark squeaked. "Go."
*
At the light house, there was a portal, and a shorter Death Hunter wearing the thickest black eyeliner and lipstick possible was handing out headsets to everyone who passed by.
They would arrive at the site of a massive beach, not unlike the one from the Lighthouse. The only difference was the thick, low fog that covered the surface of the colder, less tropical water.
"Right," Mark was standing next to his laptop setup, "so like, each of you, one after another, are gonna head into the fog, acquire a single target and like come back with it. Here's the mission briefing for this training exercise: you're looking at an area with low visibility, um, lots and lots of enemies and landmi-bad things, maybe some surprises, and uh don't walk too close to the water that's bad because let's pretend, you know, just pretend that a titan lives in the water and may drown you."
The Death Assistant rubbed his sweaty palms, almost barely visible now in the fog. "All right, this way, follow the glowing blue light marker for the entrance, you'll also be given an additional survival pack on top. Remember there's a similar one for the target in red, so just grab and go you know? No questions? Cool."
He hadn't actually left any room for questions.
ANYONE COMING IN
If you JUST arrived at this rp/ haven't posted yet, you can just start here assuming your character already heard everything from the meeting prior!
OOC
SOMETHING STIRS IN THE FOG...
This exercise relies on two things: resource and HP management. You successfully complete this when you've followed all 4 steps below! You don't need to rp too much for these rolls, just a line is fine (unless you're word padding for word count then by all means/ interacting with a character!) - You can use runics/ artifacts/ etc whatever's at your disposal but only during the BOSS (part 3) part.
- Please post WHAT STEP YOU ARE ON in the orp for your sake mostly!
gaia_crown[ Resource ]: + You are given 3 lightflares to use at any time. Using it will light up the area, letting you CHOOSE which obstacle your character faces ONCE instead of rolling into an obstacle. Again, only once per use. If there's a mechanic that requires rolling 3d4 for example, it will only cover one of the 1d4s. + You are given 1 runic bandaid to use at any time. Restores your HP to full.
gaia_crown][ HP ]: This is a SURVIVAL/ INVESTIGATION exercise, meaning it is important for your character to manage their stamina (HP). HP = 0 = GAME OVER (Fail)
gaia_star[ STEP 1: ] THE PIT: The fog is blinding. Roll 1d6 TWICE to pass this area, and see what your character encounters.
Roll 1: Your character hears a noise very, very close to them and sees a dark shape looming past them. If your character is intermediate trainee or below: Terror grips them, and it feels like their heart may burst. You accidentally drop 1 resource (of your choice)
Roll 2: Your character runs right into a large amalgamation, it looks like the melting remains of several neglected minipets clumped together. All their eyes and teeth focus on you and it begins to chase you. Must do 10HP damage to defeat it and move on/ it does -5 auto damage a hit.
Roll 3: Your character runs into some sort of shape and then they are lying on their backs on the sand, seeing stars. Your HP is HALVED
Roll 4: Your character runs into a Oz (one of the Death Hunters). He's wearing a sign around his neck that says "PERSON". You can try asking him questions.
Q: What are you doing here: I'm here to make negotiations with you. Q: Where am I: You're in the pit, it's a where people sell black market Fear specimens for a cheap price. Q: (Any form of threatening Oz): I don't take kindly to threat. Q: (Any form of negotiating with Oz): If you pay me a lightflare, I'll tell you a good secret. (If you pay up, Oz gives you a key. If you don't pay up, Oz just stares at you judging).
Roll 5: Your character sees an old cell phone. Examining it reveals 1 new message that just says "13".
Roll 6: Your character sees a folder on the ground that reads CLASSIFIED INFORMATION FULL HUNTER OR HIGHER CLEARANCE ONLY. If you try to open it: If you are a Full Hunter, it just says "Pass", if you are intermediate or lower, when you open it, it shocks you for -10 damage
gaia_star[ STEP 2: ] FINDING THE TARGET: You reach a cave bound by a narrow tunnel. Roll 1d4 ONCE to acquire your target. If your character rolls any of the FAILS, they must reroll and retry again. Otherwise, continue to step 3.
Roll 1: Your character finds a very large cave. Inside it is a blue marker. Samuel's standing there, and looks relieved that you found him, pausing his game of Solitaire. "Good job, I got the target." He smiles wryly and points at a jar with a black crystal inside it and shakes it. The crystal is made of styrofoam. "Since I'm too busy holding this, you're going to have to escort me back to safety." (Continue to step 3)
Roll 2: Your character wanders around aimlessly lost in the fog. They accidentally wander into another horrific minipet amalgamation! It attacks them for -10 HP (FAIL, REROLL).
Roll 3: Your character finds a very large cave. Inside it is a blue marker. The Death lead is standing there, reading through several mission reports at the same time. Next to him is a quite valuable-looking box that sealed with a simple lock. He doesn't say anything and waits for you to do something. - If you just stand there: He gets impatient and the next thing you know you're tasting the sand, paralyzed. You wake up back on step 2. (FAIL, REROLL) - If you ask what to do next/what to do now/where to go/etc (He just takes the box and leaves. Maybe you should follow him?? - Continue to step 3) - If you ask what's in the box. (He ignores you. ) - If you mention/ have the key: (He gives you the box for you to hold. It's quite heavy. Maybe you should follow him as he leaves - Continue to step 3)
Roll 4: Your character finds a very large cave. Inside it is a blue marker. Mark somehow has managed to find his way to this cave, holding a "laptop" made of styrofoam. "Cool, so I got the super secret data stuff," Mark said in an exaggerated voice. "It's really secret and would be a shame if oh, I dunno it broke or something. Anyway, you're going to hold it and I'm going to follow you. God, it's so freaking cold, let's just finish this already." (Continue to step 3)
gaia_star[ STEP 3: ] AN OBSTACLE APPEARS:
Suddenly on the way back, you hear a noise churning from the ocean-
- And a massive black shape, what looks like a tentacle collapses in front of you, nearly knocking you off your feet. You must DEFEAT IT to pass to the end! HP: 20/20 for 14yo / trainee, 30/30 for Intermediate, 50/50 for Full Hunter
- [ QUICK ATTACK MODE ] : Instead of rolling 2dX at once (ie: 2d10 for intermediate), roll 8dX [red]- 24 damage. This will simulate 4 attacks in succession. - For example, if you roll 8d12 as a full Hunter and get 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, your total damage is 1+ 2+ 3+ 4+ 5+ 6+ 7+ 8 AND THEN subtract 24 damage from it. That is now your damage total. - Just a note that every 8dX yields you -10 auto damage to your character. - Keep on rolling in bundles of 8dX until you have defeated the enemy OR you get KO'ed. - If you have ANY lightflares remaining, you may use them now. Doing so will drop the enemy's REMAINING HP by half per lightflare remaining.
gaia_crownIF YOUR BUDDY IS SAMUEL: - Once in this battle, you can either choose for to Samuel auto attack for 5 damage every turn/ attack post you make, or heal you for 5 damage.
Here's some stuff he might say that you can add in as his filler text to your RP:
- "Cool, my favourite things, calamari and a long walk on the beach". - "By the way, this isn't a date." - "Sure hope this jar doesn't suddenly shatter or anything." - "Please tell me you can do better than that."
gaia_crownIF YOUR BUDDY IS CAELIUS: -If the RESULT of your current attack roll is odd, you immediately get paralyzed for no reason, and are unable to attack the boss, taking -5 additional damage on top of auto and having to reroll again. -If the RESULT of your current attack roll is even, he wanders off. If you spend more than 3 turns attempting to attack the same boss (odd or even roll), he'll come back and 1HkO it while judging you the entire time.
Here's some stuff he might say that you can add in as his filler text to your RP:
- "..."
gaia_crownIF YOUR BUDDY IS MARK:
Instead of attacking, you may instead roll 1d4. If you do you're taking auto damage for Mark (-10 auto damage a turn). Rolling a 1: Mark will accidentally blow up the boss for half it's remaining HP. Rolling a 2: Mark will run around and do absolutely nothing to help you. Rolling a 3: Mark will yell he's accidentally dropped something. Half boss and YOUR remaining HP. Rolling a 4: Mark will finally decide that he should probably help you and attack because he's freezing. He does -10 damage.
Here's some stuff he might say that you can add in as his filler text to your RP:
- "So have you seen that like Lego Batman movie yet, because I'm not really a huge DC fan but there's like this other RP shop called "This is DC" and they totally copied our everything and it's like super unfair and stuff I mean Dwight and I thought of it first they even have TiM minipets which is totally something I like thought of okay." - "Dude, I just saw the new trailer for the next Avengers movie and it looks so CG, but like in a good CG way right, like you know sure I could totally make a way way cooler movie with way better effects actually I've filmed a movie recently it's like this cool mocumentary you should watch it sometime." - "Hey you buying my n***s? I'll even let you tribute them, cuz I'm such a nice guy you know." - "What do you think of this so far? I spent like a bajillion years setting it up, pretty good right? Never really managed to get those killer explosive dolphins, err they don't explode, they have devices that can explode other people you know?"
gaia_crown[ STEP 4: ] YOU ARE DONE. Just go ahead and wrap it up! - If your character has the password (13): Completion one time bonus of +$500 - If your character has the chest + key: Completion one time bonus of +$2000 and +3 bonus vacation days. - If your character has the key + NO chest: Completion one time bonus of +$500 - If your character PASSED THE EXAM (did not faint/ hit 0 HP): Waive your character's next promotion exam, so you just need to use this instead! Otherwise, for the next 3 battles you are in, you may choose to "reroll" one of your attack posts once. - You may also now CLAIM YOUR RP POINTS (+3 for obstacle course PASS OR 0 HP FAIL and +2 for over 600 words in this RP) and enter the raffle! - Feel free to linger and RP with other people - Don't forget you can also turn your rp points for any of the bonuses listed on the first post!

It was no great surprise at the initial text, Quinn mused as he started at it, he even managed a laugh at the odd familiarity of it. Sure he had been off island for what, close to a year? He thought maybe he would have a few days to acclimate back into the swing of things. He arrived late last night, oddly and slightly welcomingly without seeing a familiar face. Probably because he was trying to avoid people, he dodged and slipped as quietly as possible into his old room. A second later he was asleep, ignoring the dust bunnies and who knows what else that accumulated in his absence.
He saw things, did things, bad things, while he was away and he wasn't exactly ready to talk about it just yet.
So just before the meeting started he slipped into the room, unsure if anyone had noticed. He stayed close to the back of the room initially, some faces familiar....others not. Good to see things still seem to be running smoothly here. Or as smoothly as Deus was ever run. Minus the awful new decor, he fidgeted in the chair clearly meant to make you not want to he here for too long. Still Quinn kept his silence, anyone who knew him would know this wasn't anything peculiar.
He wondered idly, as he eyes this new 'sam' person, if he should comment about the Death symbol he still carried. But Sam said he was a Legacy specialist, not an ancients one. So technically, he could ignore that order right? Besides, he was almost certain now his marking was why their boss signed his paperwork for the division change anyways. So they were probably well aware.
He barely stopped the whine that was about to come from his mouth, as they explained some sort of 'test'. Crap, he JUST got back. Was it too much to ask for a slight, even a day, to rest up? Yes he was whining, yes he was tired. He didn't exactly try and hide the look of exhaustion he was projecting either.
He also sure as hell made sure he would not be the first to take this test. Maybe somewhere nice in the middle instead.... or the ending. Yeah.
Solia, having actually nodded off into a state of near REM sleep midway through the speeches, (though she managed to somehow be weirdly semi awake enough to hear shu's talk and internally cheer on her beloved waifu), was woken to the fact it was time to move and that now was time to suit up and get physical.
She'd much rather have preferred to have been allowed to skip this part and go back to her pet project and the golems she was working on but, alas, such was the life of even the most workcentric of hunters. To obey.
Arriving at the portal, the sleepy, (which was more just physically tired from her prior work catching up to her) Solia took one look at the portal after Mark's explanation and...She sneezed. Anti-climatic as it was, Solia and Israfel both figured it would be another round to see 'who would die first'.
Upon entering the portal, Solia started walking and-
It did not take long before she was on her back, looking up into the whiteness that was fog and wondering why she had bothered with the meeting she could have just stayed in a golem by 'accident'.
Solia, Israfel chimed, the mental image of him holding what looked like a very sad ragdog in his hands appearing in her minds eye. That was no good. Frowning, she was forced to defend, allowing the weapon to slowly take what FEAR it could from the mass of forgotten minipets.
The minipets dead, (as they could get), Solia took a moment to have Israfel tend to some much needed self care. Israfel, being Israfel healed only himself, leaving Solia just feeling extra tired.
Upon finding Mark, she for once in her career as a death hunter, was not feeling an ounce of annoyance. That would have required energy and as it stood, she had none. Nodding to him, she took the 'laptop' and started to exit, cave left.
As the walk began, Solia took one look at the tentacle and muttered a very angry '******** god damn it I just wanted to go in, hear Caelius b***h and then get back to work was that too much to ask for?'
Apparently it was. Runic Bandages, Applied, she didn't waste any time, launching off all three of the light flairs. She was not in the mood for this.
"Stand back Mr. Mark." Israfel held up she launched her first arrow before firing off several others in rapid succession. She was entirely done with this whole assessment and when Mark chose to gloat about having set it up and the tentacle went down-
