Lizbet couldn't help but smile as she heard a familiar voice, and turned to see her darling son. "Luno, dear!" she said coolly, gracing him with a faint smile.
"I don't need anything in particular..." she said. "How have you been? The company has been treating you well, I trust?" The words were spoken with intent behind them– hopefully, intent that her son would be canny enough to pick up on. After all, she was only here to congratulate him.
Talking with her son was safe. If she was talking to him, she wouldn't have to give lip-service to the higher-ups in the company, and that suited the woman just fine.

Charon watched the others around xyr, flapping her fan idly to keep cool and focused, taking a deep breath in the corset to ground herself. They had quite the collection tonight, all hoping to find out who would be the heir, or perhaps vying for the position themselves? Well, wouldn't it be interesting to see what would happen as the night would unfold?
Xe adjusted the shawl across xyr shoulders and looked around a second time, finally focusing on Aoionte and arching a brow. Well he seemed a bit out of place among the lavish individuals. How had he gotten in here? Well, this was to be a generous affair, right? They had to be there for the same reason as everyone else. Maybe someone the founder knew. They seemed cold, though. Charon could relate to that normally, though right then xe was regretting the shawl and faux specterfox pelt added for the tragic backstory xe had attached to it if anyone asked. Normally xe wouldn't dream of sharing or potentially giving away any part of xyr costume, but unless the person who seemed homeless was more clever then xyr, Charon would be able to find them again and get it back.
Mind made up, xe moved to approach, pulling off the faux specterfox pelt to remove the shawl and replacing the pelt across her shoulders. "Excuse me." Xe said primly. "You seem quite out of place here, dear. More to the point, you seem like you're freezing! Here now, here." Xe held the shawl out. "Wrap yourself now and warm up. It's quite alright."
Ah, sweet mother. Always making sure he was all right. She was truly a beacon of light in his life. Patting her arm, he nodded approvingly, "I just arrived, but I'm certain the guests would be thrilled to see Snii Vye's only heir at his party." But his dear mother had a good point. Mingling was necessary, especially if he was about to launch his plan in action.
"I need to find dear Arachnne and make the big introduction," Taking in a deep breath, he let it out and brought a dazzling smile to his face, "Wish me luck, won't you?"
Leaving his mother's side, he approached Arachnne. Already his heart fluttered. She was simply divine, dressed as she was. Goodness, if looks could kill... she'd be a serial murderer. "Arachnne! You look wonderous this evening. Truly, the prettiest belle of the ball." Though his mother stood a strong second, "Shall we go and meet my father and Mr. Fridtjof?"

Veruca felt eyes on her, and turned to face Arachnne. Her eyes traced down her dress, taking in the high slit and the higher heels. Her lips turned upwards, appreciating the view. Now, if only she didn't also seem to be intent on Snii Vye! Veruca was particularly concerned about portraying the correct image, and attaching herself to someone powerful seemed like a good call. Alas, they all seemed preoccupied.
She scanned the crowd, wondering who she could turn into her arm candy for the night. She spotted a Geist who seemed to be searching for somewhere to stash his jacket. Veruca flowed towards Seren, a smile on her lips. "Have you managed to find the coat check? I certainly haven't." She looked at him through her lashes, and smiled again.

x x x x Seren turned to face Veruca as she addressed him. He sighed, maybe a bit too dramatically, and shook his head. "Sadly, no. I would just drape it on a chair but," Seren turned to eye the hybrid in rags, "I'm not sure it won't end up missing by the end of the night."
Trying to look casual, Seren shifted his gaze to Veruca. He subtly looked her up and down before giving her his brightest smile. "I'm sorry, I don't believe we've met. I'm Seren, owner of Somber Farm and the best spectrefox breeder in Ozryn."

[[ I have no idea how to talk about dog breeder stuff, so sorry if anything I write sounds funny. I'm trying to research it, but I don't exactly get how one would introduce themselves as a breeder. ]]

Monocle? Check.
Fancy hat? Check.
A tuxedo worthy of a James Bond movie? Double check.
AJ had made sure to be dressed to the nines. His shoes were polished and shiny, he even had cufflinks on. And while he had thought about shaving, his stubble was sure looking darn good lately. Taking it one step further, as always, he carefully adjusted his absolutely magnificent mustache.
He was SO ready.
Striding into the ballroom like he owned the place, he greeted everyone with a dazzling smile...his floppy ear strained to stand up straight, but it was not to be. He enjoyed the chitter, the chatter, the overall atmosphere. Yes, this was the place to be. And the drink selection was marvelous! Soon, he had a glass in his hand.
As it were, he soon caught sight of best buddy best pal old boy Snii Vye...Al...ready...being chatted up.
No, no, this simply wouldn't do!
Striding over, head held high (and almost tripping on his own feet), AJ Made it a point to be smiling as much as he could. He even walked on his tippy-toes to seem taller!
"Fridtjof my boy!" he started (His very best 'old rich guy' accent in play), "Don't worry so much. Our old man has always had the best interests of us and the spectrefoxes at the front and center. We have nothing to fear. He's sure to make only the best choice, isn't that right Snii Vye?"
Giving a smile to his friend, he took a great big sip of the wine...
(And very quickly broke character to choke and sputter and fight to keep his mustache on because who in below would serve grape-flavored water?!)
...And smiled again quickly, wiggling his lip and his nose in order the make his mustache wiggle.
Fridtjof jumped a little at the sudden appearance of AJ. He's been so focused on trying to get any shred of information he could that he'd only been paying attention of Snii Vye. He let out a nervous-sounding chuckle.
"Oh, yes. Yes, quite right, I'm sure."
He turned back to Snii Vye with smile as nervous as his chuckle had been. "Sorry old friend, I have every confidence your choice will be the best one for the company. After all we've been working side-by-side for years. I hope you won't blame me for my curiosity. Big changes after all. You know us number types, we like to make sure of all the variables."
Fridtjof shifted uncomfortably in place. "Ah, yes. Well then. I don't want to monopolize your time. Quite rude of me. I'll catch you again in a moment, yes? I...I believe I'll take a stab at mingling. Explore a little. Lovely building, such a grand place for a party." Fridtjof slowly took a couple steps back in the middle of his babbling, then as he trailed off he turned and walked away.
Of course he didn't really intend to mingle. He knew none of these people here, and really didn't wish too. The sight of Luno only solidified it for him. Fridtjof's face twisted a little, then he followed the wall away from the crowds until he found a door and exited the room.

Arachenne put on a huge bright smile when she saw Luno, she cried out "Darling it has been too long." She cried out in a dramatic fashion and draped herself onto Luno's arm and cuddled it a little bit. She pretended to blush at his compliment. "Oh darling you are too much." Arachenne fussed with her dress a bit to make sure it was straight "Do you think he will like me??" She said playing her part with in a part of the nervous girlfriend meeting the boss and the father of her boyfriend for the first time.
Whoever had assigned the roles must have been looking out for her, because she could not have been more thrilled with the result. She had always wanted an excuse to dress like a princess and now she had the perfect opportunity. Needless to say, she wasted several days (and several class periods) searching for the best outfit. No matter what the occasion, proper dress was a matter of life or death. The murder mystery party proved no exception.
Even if it was just the academy auditorium, Cheri opened the doors like she was entering a palace. She flung them open with gusto, enough to rattle the hinges, then paused in the doorway. She looked entirely different from her day to day self. She wore a soft pink gown with dark raspberry accents that complimented her canary fur. Her hair had been done up with a band of white and pink roses, though her bangs remained in front of her eyes as usual. It was a continual wonder she could see at all.
After giving sufficient pause for someone to notice her (puh-lease, she had spent so much money on her outfit), Cheri gave a demure curtsy and then stepped into the auditorium. As she made her way through the gaggle gathered in the centre, she took note of each participant. She was looking for one nightmare in particular. Surely in this small a crowd, he would not be that... aha!
Picking up the hem of her dress, Cheri started towards AJ. Almost as quickly as she started though she stopped. Standing next to him was... ugh! The dreaded Snii Vye. She really did not want to engage him. Thoughtful, Cheri clacked her freshly filed and painted nails together. Perhaps she could just scoot in close enough to glean a little information.
Weaving towards the pair as inconspicuously as a person could in an enormous, pink cotton ball, Cheri crept up for some good old-fashioned eavesdropping.
*Well, not really. Actually he was pretty cute. But also probably too young for her. Definitely too young for her. Just look at that face. Rats! “Ugh,” might have been the right choice after all.

Dahlia was beyond excited when she noticed the little invitation that was left in her university mail slot, her mind already spinning for what sort of outfit she could pull together. She was even more pleased with her character bio, absolutely positive that it would be an interesting night for everyone involved. She dressed in an old hollywood glam - style black dress, leaving little to the imagination while still being classy. She covered herself in faux diamonds until she glittered from every angle. To finish the look she had picked up a faux-fur drape and painted her lips blood red. The look had really come together with her hair falling in soft waves around her. She would be a little late to the party, but that would be appropriate for her character, right? The hybrid strutted into the fancy auditorium like she owned the place, just in time to catch the opening announcement. She tried to make it over to Snii Vye before he could disappear into the crowd, but was a touch late with that too. Sighing delicately, Dahlia settled for finding the cutest waiter with the most delicious hors d'oeuvres.]look had really come together with her hair falling in soft waves around her. "Charmed, I'm sure," Veruca drawled, still looking through her lashes, "I'm Veruca. I was soooo glad that I have a night off my tour to attend! I really do try not to miss this party. " She glanced casually at her nails, before looking up at Seren again.
"I'm sure it must be very rewarding to be a Spectrefox breeder. Do you work with the foundation frequently? ... I must admit, I don't have one myself yet. I would love one though. Maybe once I'm done with this tour, and this album ... "

Luno choked on a chuckle he had to swallow. Arachnne's antics were too funny, but he did appreciate her sticking to character. As he would too. "I think," there was sincerity in his voice as he took his "girlfriend's" hand in his own and kissed the knuckles, "That there is only one star at the event tonight, and she is certainly you."
So many people were filling in the auditorium, and Luno was starting to get a little claustrophobic. His eyes wandered the crowd, only then realizing that his father had disappeared. Drat! Fridtjof had been the last to speak with the old man. If it wasn't so much work, he would have considered chasing after him.
The Vice President was there, though.. And Luno couldn't be asked to make his way to AJ. Too much work. Too bothersome. But his looking at the crowd was becoming almost paranoid, his eyes darting from face to face, searching for something.
Turning his attention back to Arachnne, he smiled warmly, "Looks like the old man took a break. We've got some time to talk. Are you nervous, dearest?"
As quickly as Lizbet's son had whirled his way up to her, he'd made his excuses and left. Lizbet couldn't help but be slightly annoyed, giving a faint sigh and giving her very-best stage-murmur.
"Useless child," she said, voice as cool as it was venomous. After all, she'd only come at his invitation, and here he'd disappeared the moment she tried to gauge how likely he was to actually have something worth celebrating, or if he'd just cement her disappointment in him.
There went her security, and as Cheri made her way to the ballroom, she saw, with a curl of her lip, that the girl seemed almost magnetically attracted to where she should not have been.
It wasn't really her fault, after all. Lizbet had taken every effort to keep her away from the owners of the company after that wretched divorce, and the girl was bound to be curious about the events unfolding.
What did matter, though, was that AJ was far too near her for comfort. Lizbet coolly glided over to the man, clearly intent on starting a conversation with him.

"But of course Fridtjof," he gave the man a slight nod, noticing as everyone was trying to get closer to him. However, many seemed to back away as Fidtjof and AJ were the first to reach him. He should probably make his rounds to thank everyone for coming, even those he wasn't of friendly terms with. After all, they had shown up! In response to Fridtjof's concern, he let out a small chuckle to try and ease the moment, letting out a sigh soon after to get a bit serious ", If I were to tell you both who it was, then what would be the fun of me announcing it to everyone all at once later on in the night? You don't have to worry. You can trust my words, right Fridtjof and AJ? The future CEO I have picked is a good choice. No worries to be had here."
He noticed the yellow and pink out of the corner of his eyes, turning to see what appeared to be Cheri Cordial trying to get closer to them. She had been the only one to try and get closer despite him being busy talking at the moment. He had no idea she was trying to eavesdrop, simply thinking she may just want to talk to him ", Would you like to speak with me Cheri Cordial? You seem to be wishing to get closer."
Clair sashayed into the room, her confidence high, her hips swinging, her tails swishing. She was light on her toes, always right on the edge of bursting into dance, a smirk on her face. She was a ballet dancer, still in school at the moment, but she had already gotten her first gig, and she was soaring high on that confidence. The girl scoped the room, squinting as she assessed the competition. Her eyes fell on a gem on a nightmare, her skin and hair immediately drawing Clair's attention. The nightmare seemed to sparkle, and Clair brightened as she noticed the other's mutant eyes. The girl approached the other nightmare, her confidence lessening as she got closer. She had never been to something quite this elegant, even tho she acted like it, and the longer she was here, the less sure of herself she became. "Stay in character!" the nightmare told herself silently.
The cat-hybrid paused a second, collecting herself, and giving the beautiful nightmare a chance to finish their conversation with someone else, before she came up to introduce herself. "Excuse me," The cat purred, flicking her two tails, trying to calm her nerves, "I could not help but notice just how radiant you look. I had to introduce myself. Hello, im Clair." Clair fluttered her wings a little, was that too forward? She swished her tails again, flicking away the nerves.
