She slowly went back into the house. Some of the people tried to stop her from going into the room again. She had already seen it, she was there. She stood in the doorway again, and stared at the scene. It didn't look real, she was aware of her minds own self preservation. It was as if the body was that of a stranger, it looked blurry and foreign.
With her father it was different. She never saw his body, he was just gone one day. She didn't know how to accept this. Her mother was gone but she had left behind a gored shell. Briinah could not recognize this shell. It was easier for her to accept that her mother had just up and left.

Warren grasped the pendant that rested over his heart. It was part of the set that belonged with his mother. It was meant to represent how they fit together as a family. His heart ached in response he could feel himself getting heavy. His wounds were still open and bleeding, he kept pushing forward. The sermal tracks were getting harder to find, and more sparse. He worried he might lose track of it and he began to move more frantically.
He was desperate not to lose it. He needed to find it. He had convinced himself, and he was to stubborn to quit.

Briianh walked over to the bedside numbly. She knelt down and held the cold hand of the shell. It was still wet, and she was surprised to find there was something still clenched in the digits.
She carefully peeled back the fingers and revealed the necklace. It appeared to be an hourglass shaped pendant with a simple beaded chain. Briinah could not recall seeing it before. It did not look new, quite the opposite, it looked old and well worn.
"Why did she have this? What does it mean?" she asked herself quietly.
Briinah took the necklace to Nitoh and showed it to him. She could tell by the way the color emptied his face he knew something about it. She pressed it to him. "What is this?" she said in a scolding tone. "What haven't you told me"

What was he going to say to his father? Kendov would be crushed, and worried. Warren felt like such a burden. His body hunched as if it was carrying his perceived burdens. His father was a simple man who herded aldabuk. He didn't ask for a cursed son. A son who had a temper; a son who got into fights constantly, a son who refused to become part of a community. His father had made all the sacrifices, Warren felt sick with guilt an grief.
Even while on the run, he couldn't escape the grief. He wasn't letting himself mourn.

What Nitoh and her mother had kept from her, was that the monster she was told about; The reason the Dread Sermal was after Ah'brii; it was her brother. Half brother.
Grandpa told her the reason he was cursed with the dark eyes of the beast was because her mother had been unfaithful to her community because she married outside of the wind tribe. While Briinah was still uncertain of grandpa's reasoning, she seemed convinced that this cursed sibling existed to destroy her family somehow. For all she knew he could have been responsible for her fathers disappearance.
The necklace, from how Nitoh explained it, was a sort of marriage or union jewelry. The difference being it represented the family and not just the two individuals. Briinah still didn't understand why her mother had kept it so long, or why she had died still clutching it. If she loved her father she would have thrown it away. There must have been a reason she still had it.
She kept the necklace wrapped around her wrist. She decided she would hold it as a reminder of her mother and a promise to understand what and why this had happened to her.

Warren continued walking through the night. He had lost enough blood to make his head light. He couldn't remember when he last saw a paw print, or a bit of dried blood. He couldn't be sure of where he was going but he didn't stop.
The people had given up their pursuit half way through the night. They had decided they would gather their best trackers and set out in the morning to hunt Warren down. Now that they knew who he was and what he looked like all of Dernd was on alert and they were sure to spread rumors about how he "killed" his own mother.
Warren crossed into Tale just before dawn. He continued moving south. albeit at a much slower pace, as he was at risk of fainting. With his fate uncertain, he pressed into the unknown, willing to risk it all for a chance at revenge.
